I love everything about this place, but they re incredibly authentic Thai food is front of mind. I actually find myself craving it if I don t have it on the regular.

You must eat the food at this location, takeaway portions are smaller and getting hit for 15-25% for takeaway tip is not fair. Food service is great in-house. Best Thai in town. Please push for higher minimum wage in BC , so we don t have to pay server s salaries.

Safe to say this is the best Thai food restaurant in town. I love their Thai ice tea and the black rice coconut pudding. Good portion and yummy food in general :)

Service was great, very friendly and helpful. Food came out pretty quickly, we had ordered a lot and it was worth it. Loved all the food that was given, amazing flavour was surrounded all through the different plates. Good restaurant all around.

I ve been a loyal customer and a big fan of your restaurant for a long time, often recommending it to others, but after you recently re-opened, I made three visits, I m now really disappointed. I ve decided not to return anymore, though I feel it s only fair to leave a review since you ve been my favorite Thai place until recently. Out of the last three visits, two were takeout and one was dine-in. The dine-in experience was particularly bad. Even considering that it was a busy weekend evening, it was strange to see so many servers inside the restaurant, yet we were left waiting outside. We waited for over 40 minutes, and when we were finally seated, no one came to our table. It was over an hour before we even placed our order, and when the food finally arrived... it was nothing like I remembered. The taste was completely different, and I couldn t help but wonder if the chef changed or if the recipes were altered. I ordered the same dishes I always have, and was shocked at how different and disappointing they tasted. The service wasn t great, and the food didn t live up to what I used to love about your restaurant. Afterward, I tried takeout twice more, hoping it was just a one-off, but the taste was inconsistent again. It was disappointing to experience three visits in a row with food that was either bad or completely different from what I expected. What do you do when the Pad Thai doesn t taste good at a Thai restaurant? And the Tom Yum Goong was bland too. Consistency is key for any good restaurant, and I truly believed you were the best Thai spot in Victoria. But after these last few visits, I think it s time to explore other options. I understand that sometimes dishes can vary, but it feels like your restaurant has lost its touch, and I don t want to keep testing my luck. Goodbye for now, and I hope you can find your way back to the quality that once made you my favorite place.

The food here was amazing! We ordered the chicken satay & couple of vegetarian entrees, and everything tasted incredible! Also try their hot oils, if possible. The highlight was our dessert, mango sticky rice, we were blown away!

Manager Suki and the team at Sookjai went above and beyond to accommodate a 13-person party for my fiancés surprise birthday dinner. In the lead up, Suki was so easy to communicate with and exceptionally accommodating. When we got there for the reservation, they had everything set up perfectly. Service was quick, all the food and drink orders were accurate, and everything was delicious! The portion sizes were huge, so great bang for your buck (especially when youre with a group of rugby guys!). I cant say enough good things about this restaurant - a must try! Thank you SO much Suki and the team at Sookjai!!

Very good restaurant and amazing Pad Thai.

This is an awesome Thai restaurant in Victoria. We ordered spring rolls, tofu pad khing, khow phad goong. Just beware of their spice levels. They had Thai hot and Thai extra hot as their top 2 levels. I generally go for the last but one and choose Thai hot. That turned out to be super spicy. If you re a tourist, walking the streets leading up to this restaurant wasn t a pleasant experience. But the restaurant didn t let us down. I d recommend driving or Uber to get there however.

Best Thai food Ive ever had on the island. The basil fried rice was the best I have ever had. So much vegetable and protein. Great service. Nice decor. Clean. HUGE portions.

We really enjoyed the food here. We had the Thai Red Curry the Pad Thai and the Chicken Stir Fry with Vegetables. The restaurant was very busy which is great but made it hard to talk with our group of 5 as it was a bit hard to hear everyone due to the noise level. Service was great though.

I was a little disappointed with the food. The portion sizes are clearly too generous. Both the Pad See Ew and Tom Kha Gai were missing so much, which I love about these two dishes.

This is the BEST Thai restaurant in Victoria. Outstanding food. We ordered takeout. They have their own FAST delivery. Very friendly as well. This place makes really, really, really delicious food. I love their pad Thai and spring rolls. And they have so, so much variety compared to other places. You would think that you should stick to the popular items but I have ordered lots and lots of the different dishes offered by this fine establishment and I have never been disappointed.

Great flavour with generous portion sizes. Perfect for sharing family style. The service is consistently great. They always give serving utensils and side plates for sharing. A perfect match for customers because the portions are enough to share among multiple diners. Note that some curries start at a minimum of a MEDIUM spice level. Mild is not available for every dish. The green curry with beef is my favorite. Lots of bamboo shoots and a thick coconut gravy. Ordering rice on the side is a MUST! Love this spot.

Exceptional flavour and decently priced... showing up without a reservation means you might have to wait but its obviously worth it. This is a very popular restaurant and adored by many. Its a shame a few people have left 1-star reviews because they couldnt get immediate service. Recommendations? #65 Prawn Fried Rice and the #51 Paneng are outstanding. Wheelchair accessibility: Ground level entry, no stairs, bathrooms accessible.

What happened to this place? This used to be my favourite Thai spot in town and one of my favourite restaurants in general. My last couple of experiences were disappointing. Suddenly the noodle dishes are sooo soupy! Like swimming in soy sauce. What happened to the smoky sticky tamarind flavours of the old noodle dishes? There must be a new chef. In a city with very limited legit Thai restaurants, its sad we lost this one too :(

Had dinner here for the first time and it was a bit of a mixed experience. To start with the good, the food was fantastic. We had Phad Thai Gai and another dish I cant remember the name of. They were both flavorful, hot and had the appropriate amount of spice. The service left a bit to the imagination. It was very slow, despite the restaurant not being very busy. Or food did come quickly once or order was taken but it was 10+ minutes before we were offered drinks. And that again before we were offered food. The server asked me if I want my dish with the regular or coconut rice and neglected to mention that rice is a $6 addon. Not a big deal but you should be telling people when youre up selling them. I would probably try this place again. It is charming and the prices were quite reasonable, especially this day and age.

They sell their food only to be reheated later which is nice, their Thai green curry was quite spicy (I m sure only mild or medium for Thai curries), tasty but the truly exceptional was the fried rice. It was amazing.

Have been here a few times.. this time really did not enjoy the food. The ratio of veggies and tofu to noodles was way off.. could barely find a noodle through all the tofu which didnt have a very nice flavour/texture. Saw our server twice, to take our order and then take payment.

I visited again after 6 years and it was still delicious. It was a cold day, and I arrived 10 minutes before opening time, so I was thankful that they let me in early. No. 62 Pad Thai Goong is plentiful and delicious, so I highly recommend it!

Exclusively had take-out from here. The food is always amazing and they make stuff GF for me which doesnt feel like a lesser version of the normal recipe. Dietary restrictions: Can make Gluten Free options as good as the original.

Rarely do I feel compelled to write reviews but This Thai restaurant we found on Google is an example of real value. And that s fairly rare. Incredibly friendly and efficient service from each of the staff we encountered. Properly and deliciously prepared Thai food (I have spent considerable time eating in Thailand) with very generous portions. All for a reasonable price. It s also immaculately clean, which is very important to me. I couldn t recommend this establishment enough!

Wow!! Amazing quality of food and a really exotic palette of flavors Thai food this good is hard to come by. Truly artesanal in craftsmanship both visually and in taste. Also, plentiful serving sizes! The servers were nothing but friendly and had wonderful suggestions. The only complaint I had was that with menu offerings at these prices, it seems a bit gimmicky to charge extra for things like plain rice while I understand charging for it, I think it should come with the larger curry dishes, especially considering the already steep pricing. Nonetheless, a really memorable restaurant experience and this place is often packed to the tee - expect a long wait and come hungry!

Atmosphere was phenomenal, we were seated instantly despite it being quite busy, our appetizers were delivered quickly and were exceptional. I wasn t certain on what entree I wanted to order, and my waitress, Nicole, gave a fantastic and detailed recommendation, and it lived up to her description! Great portions, and very delicious. Would go to again.

Really good service to start, i really appreciate it! I was disappointed about the starters ( fish balls, spring roll and banana roll) . It was more like what you can find in a cheap buffet so i would try a salad as a starter next time. We had a hot crying tiger ( a bit overcooked but nothing too crazy) , a hot chicken green curry, deep fried pork ( this one was dry but really tasty) and a red chicken curry with coconut rice on side as main courses I was really suprised by the size and we brought leftovers home. It was really good so it kinda balance with those bad starters I would love to had some green onions, cilantro and lime on the table for toppings . Cocktails are really good and you can have a nice bottle of cab sav for 20 $ wich is great as well. We appreciate the experience and with some changes, especially on the starters side i would definitely put 5 stars!

As thai food goes, this was OK but not great. Part of our order was veggie spring rolls and Tom kha soup. The soup broth was normal and tasty but NO VEGGIES except mushrooms. In every other Thai restaurant I have been to, Tom kha comes with onions and/or scallions, tomatoes, and broccoli. This place--just mushroom with a few shrimp. The veggie spring rolls were saturated in grease and had basically zero veggies in them. No bean sprouts, cabbage, and maybe 2 bits of shredded carrot per roll. They were mostly filled with these fine, clear curly noodles. Lame. Will try some other Thai place in the future.

Went there almost closing time. The server took our large party of 7 in and was very helpful with everything. Few min after ordering our food, she came to us and told us that they ran out of chicken and told us to choose different protein with no charge and also paid for the dessert. The food, the staff, and the hospitality is what make me go back again and again. Very recommended

Good food and amazing service, they re super nice. If you like spice but aren t a spice hound I would say thai hot is perfect for the pad thai and hot for the curries since they tend to be a bit spicier. Definitely recommend the mango and sticky rice, it s made with black rice which is hard to find in a lot of places. I think the prices are a little steep but not crazy especially for downtown.

I recently visited Sookjai Thai Restaurant in Victoria and had an amazing experience! The food was delicious and authentic, and the service was top-notch. I highly recommend trying their pad Thai, fried rice and fish snapper dishes - they were all amazing! The host and cook were fabulous and made our dining experience even better. If youve been to good Thai places around Vancouver, prepare to be disappointed here. The food is lackluster and doesnt have much flavor. It is like the chef is a teenager following a tiktok recipe for Thai food. I never knew Thai food could be so bland. This is the first and last time here. DO NOT believe the good reviews. Unless youve just never been to a decent Thai restaurant you wont find this food amazing.

Very nice little place, friendly staff, fast service, great food. We ordered the non-spicy Ocean on the Land for kids and Thai Spicy Green Curry Chicken for adults, both came out exactly how we liked! Fresh sea food, authentic Thai curry! Recommended!

Meh! I had high hopes after reading the other reviews but with so many good Thai restaurants in this town, Ill try another next time. We ordered 2 dishes both medium but when they finally arrived, one had minimal heat and the other was borderline too hot. The pad Thai was a bit heavy on the tamarind for my liking but the coconut curry was nicely flavoured. I dont know if they were unusually busy last night but service was very slow. When they finally got to us, they were over-the-top friendly. Go figure!

One of the best Thai places around. The moo Gratin was probably my favourite since I don t see it on the menu for many Thai restaurants. They had an unique approach when it came to the mango sticky rice. I would prefer the more traditional method. I would come again when I m in Victoria

Very good food, very nice staff, atmosphere appropriately Thai! Nothing to complain about, but be careful, the portions are rather large. One starter and main course was enough for two people, so for four of us there were two starters and four main sides, but everyone should decide for themselves. Depending on your hunger.

An incredible family owned restaurant with homely vibes and lovely staff. We ordered the vegetarian Thai curry and it had a ton of veggies and the quantity was quite good. The pad Thai noodles were a bit chewy but had great flavour. I will definitely be back here again! Vegetarian options: The pad Thai can be made vegetarian and the curry as well.

Best Thai restaurant that Ive been to in Victoria if a little pricey

Im going to speak to the ratings I gave, which were all 5 stars: The food is ALWAYS super good. Rich and tasty and somehow it doesnt absolutely destroy my bowels. And I get it spicy, and my guts are pretty sensitive from years of travelling, so thats saying something. The service is always good. The food never takes a long time to come out, and they never seem to get annoyed when my girlfriend makes them go back over and over again so she can stare at the menu for another 5 minutes. The atmosphere is busy, it can get loud. The tables arent far apart so sometimes you can hear an entire persons conversation. Normally I would be less into it, but somehow at Sookjai it kind of ads to the ambiance. It feels like youre in small family restaurant full of people who have discovered a hidden gem. A bunch of regulars who just cant stay away from the great food and service.

Been sampling all the Thai joints in town. So far, this one is up there as one of two favourites. Going elsewhere usually ends in disappointment. I was unhappy with one of the dishes a while back but generally, Soojai sets the bar high with the kicking flavours.

Sookjai is my #1 favourite place to eat in Victoria. Try the garlic prawns or chicken, the moo gratiem, pad thai, or chicken fried rice, or red curry with coco rice! The quality and freshness is always there. My only issue is a whopping $12 delivery fee. I m surprised they are not on skip or uber by now?! A true hidden gem and must try in Victoria.

So happy we found this place on our victoria trip. This restaurant is one of the best Thai restaurants Ive ever visited. (if they have more traditional Thai food options, I will move to victoria, lol.) lovely servers and the whole restaurant has a good vibe. Perfect for you and your friends and family to dine in. Great vegan options

Sookjai has been my go-to for years when I want excellent Thai food. The Panang Gai and Gaeng Gai curries are delicious! Incredible flavour, good value and the staff are super friendly. Consistently good.

I cannot put into words how good the food was. Food has no right to be this good. It was otherworldly. The peanut sauce with our satay was rich and flavourful, but the star was the green curry. It was without a doubt, the best Ive ever had. I have been lucky to have had many quality green Thai curries in my rather short life....but this easily stole the number one spot. It was out of this world good. The service was good despite how busy it was, and how late we came in, and everyone was happy, and brought their A game. Phenomenal. Youre doing yourself a disservice if you DONT come here while in Victoria. An absolute must for a superb dining experience. My husband, currently rather tipsy after one of their cocktails (the fizzy peach), agrees. NOW SELL YOUR SAUCES IN OTTAWA PLEASE!!! I cant go without for another five plus years... Plane tickets and lodging is expensive, ya know! Update: We stayed for dessert. Top notch.

One of my favourite restaurants in town. The food is consistently good, the service is always friendly. I havent ever had a bad experience eating here. In addition they were happy to accomodate a nut allergy at the table.

Went on multiple dates here with my girlfriend (we are an LGBTQ couple) and this place is so amazing and validating. Aside from the food being absolutely bomb with lots of delicious vegetarian options for my partner, they are super queer friendly and have always given us amazing service when we go on dates here. When we went for our anniversary, two young servers were congratulating us and had the most welcoming attitudes. At most other places we feel snubbed and don t get the same treatment as straight couples, but Sookjai and their servers go out of their way to treat us like any other couple on a special date. Will definitely be a regular dining spot for us!

The food is fantastic. Very nicely spiced - good heat but not overpowering. Portions are huge. Highly recommended.

OMG seriously the best Thai food Ive ever had

The staff are so nice and the seats are so comfortable~ Sangria (red) Easy to drink. The berries are so sweet that you can drink them instantly. Coconut Shrimp Soup All are easy to enter! The coconut taste is very fragrant, but it doesnt overpower the shrimp and mushroom flavors. In fact, they are quite appetizing. Fried tofu with mixed vegetables Feeling good about wok The shop assistant will ask you if you want to wash it or not and if you want some juice, choose the left chili fish sauce and a little bit of it will make it more flavorful. Fried banana with two balls of ice cream You have to choose chocolate, vanilla, mango and green tea. Choose the left chocolate and mango, play normally and get a few big goals But a fried banana is pretty good! Even the fried skin is delicious There is a fried pineapple option if you want to try something a little more wild.

Sookjai Thai is the ultimate best Thai food in victoria, I have been to almost every place. By far the tastiest one of them all! A very good Thai restaurant, the desserts are super delicious, the dishes are full of flavor and the portions are large. There are usually many customers, so it is best to make a reservation in advance

Delicious, authentic Thai food with extremely friends staff! No wonder this place is always busy.

The food was awesome and tasty. Most of the waitresses were very good too, but one of the ladies who was working there treated people on our next table in an unexpected manner. She approached the couple sitting next to us and asked them: OK. Whats the plan here? Are you taking it super slow, or are you done? The couple were deciding if they wanted dessert and this lady made them leave. Not because they had been there long, but because there was a wait line.
