1010 Line 2 Rd #358, Virgil, ON L0S 1J0, Canada
Wine country casual lunch served daily. Reservations strongly suggested! Reservations available on Tock, or visit our website to book. Indoor and patio seating available.
The wine tasting is great. Only $5 for four samples at the adjoining Caroline Cellars. That was a fun experience. Unfortunately we did not enjoy our meal. The Brie sounded great but wasn’t. And the trout was just ok. We were also had a very long wait for our food - they were very busy -possibly from a bus or group tour.
This cafe has rustic charm with friendly and knowledgeable staff. For a Tuesday early lunch, there was a decent sized crowd so it is wise to make a reservation. Food was fresh, hot and tasty. Some seasoning tweaks needed to elevate flavour. Kudos for serving hand cut fries opposed to frozen. Steak sandwich was tender, pickerel was flaky and mild in taste, buttermilk chicken sandwich was moist and juicy. Definitely worth a visit. When in this area this would be our choice.
We stopped off for a late lunch and of course a glass of wine. The place was pretty busy for 3pm! The burger and fries were delicious and the service was wonderful. They had a nice covered patio but we ended up sitting inside as it was raining off and on. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in Virgil or Niagara on the Lake!
-awesome restaurant -place is really nice and quiet -Food is amazing. simple but good! -portions are big -i recommend👍🏼
I loved my experience here! It took a long time for our orders to arrive but it was worth it! The poitine was the best poutine I ever had. The gravy was full of flavor and the cheese was melty and perfect. We loved the brisket also Our waitress was really friendly too
The food was amazing! Three of us had the buttermilk chicken sandwich on brioche bun, one had reuben panini. Chicken was crispy and so juicy, absolutely recommended!! Reuben was done panini style, which we hadn't seen before, also very tasty. Service was fantastic, our server even took photos of the group for us! Thank you!! This will most definitely be on our "visit again" list next time we come for vacation!!
A great lunch and breakfast cafe attached to a winery. We came for lunch and were not disappointed. The beers and wines were good and the food was amazing. Make sure to ask for a side of the onion jam, it really elevates the sandwiches. The staff were really friendly and helpful with the menu. Very accommodating to us. Highly recommended.
My very good friend and I have been here before. We love The Farmhouse Cafe. The food is delicious, prices are very reasonable, good service, very personable wait staff, great location, huge free parking lot. My very good friend had a Farmhouse Reuben Panini; house made corned beef, authentic Sauerkraut, Swiss cheese on marble rye with smoked aioli and side of fries. My friend loved it. I had the Shrimp Tacos; crispy coated shrimp, lettuce, chipotle aioli, avocado crema and topped with pineapple salsa. I ❤️❤️❤️❤️ this. Definitely getting this again. I also had a Pellegrino, so good. Last time we both had the Fall Harvest Bowl which also was so delicious. Both are a must have. Definitely recommend!!!!!
We loved our Sunday lunch at this restaurant. It was our first time and wont be our last. The wine, food and casual atmosphere were perfect for our taste.
Great staff, great location, good food, very good price.
Lovely cafe at this lovely little vineyard. Food was incredible, as was the service and the wine. Also at really reasonable prices.
Love this place, highly recommended
Great our server Julie was awesome
This is one of the more affordable wineries and the regular choice for a lot of locals. The food is very affordable and good quality. The outdoor seating is really nice, Id recommend turning up very early for lunch to grab a nice spot.
Thanks to our friendly server Rhonda for a great informative wine tasting and thanks to our waitress Christine who cheerfully served us amazing food and dessert!
Great experience. Lovely staff and reasonable prices!
Nice lunch spot attached to a winery. Good food and service, cute patio
We went for a wine tasting only, but the ice wines were amazing! Very knowledgeable staff.
The ribs were incredibly dry and reheated with Forty Creek sauce on top. I needed to wash each bite down with water. The trout was a disastrously bad dish. It was plain trout with Diana sauce on top, rice reheated in the microwave, and canned corn on top. Dont let the internet fool you, there is NOTHING farm-to-table fresh at this establishment. I will never return. I feel like we wasted two hours of our day. Staff was friendly.
Great food and the server was very hospitable. Atmosphere was friendly. Recommended dishes
Our server guided us to pair our wine with our dishes
During the Summer they have an outside patio pet friendly and my dog received lots of attention! Thank you!
Weve been coming to Carolines for years. It is still the best value in NOTL, with good portions, but the food quality has gone downhill. The fried pickerel was dry and tough; rib steak in sandwich was stringy; french onion soup salty and the chewy croutons absorbed most of the soup there was hardly any soup to speak of. The fries were not crispy and excessively salty. The rainbow trout was the only well-executed item. I hope they bring back the beloved pasta dish they had years ago. Its very strange that not a single pasta dish is on the menu.
Excellent quality food, high class wine , good variety of wines, highly recommend it
Had the seasonal peach salad and the peach crumble. Both were stunning. Would highly recommend a visit
Perch fish and seasonal salad hit the spot. The poutine was a bit overpowering.
Amazing food at an affordable price.
Chicken sandwich is phenomenal! Portions are generous. Service was friendly and genuine
We came here based on all the recommendations online and were a bit underwhelmed. It s a cute little place with fairy lights on the wooden walls giving it a cozy feel. The service was good. However our food was not as delicious as we were expecting. I had the beet salad which had good lettuce and lots of beets, walnuts, and cheese, but it was swimming in a very acidic dressing which took away from the flavours. My friend had the Cubano panini (I think); it came with lots of meat but was lacking in flavour.
Food was top notch. Will be back
We went to have a late lunch with my father and family for a pre Father s Day meal and I cannot say enough great things about the food and service. We had the pleasure of having Julie as our waitress and she went over and above to ensure my dad and my family were well taken care of. Thank you for being so amazing and the great food- I will be back!
Best food and prices in town!!!
I like the plum wine, but the settings for wine testing is not good.
Shellfish Allergy not accommodated! Ive been dining at the Farmhouse Cafe for at least a decade. Over time the restaurant has gotten busier and less customer focused. This week our family went for the Fish Special on Good Friday. I have a shellfish allergy. The restaurant would not pan-fry or bake my fish since with one shellfish item on their menu, they would not use the oil for my haddock. 3% of the population suffers from shellfish allergy, and no accommodation was possible. I am very disappointed but at least those requiring gluten free foods can be accommodated in the gluten-free oil vat.
Visited with friends on April 7, 2024 for lunch. We had reservations, and the place was full. Food and drinks were excellent, atmosphere was casual and friendly. I would recommend the nacho poutine. The bill was reasonable, in my opinion. I cant wait to go back.
Good food, & great atmosphere
Great road trip today, non of us are drinkers but the food was great. Be sure to get a reservation tho. We showed up at 1:30 and it was packed. Kitchen must be a little small for number of seats as it took a while to get our meal. Again. Full house. Grab a share plate and a drink and you wont notice.
The food is fine, big portions and reasonable prices. My issue was with the service. I took a wine tour and unfortunately they overbooked so the service at the restaurant wasnt the greatest because the place was packed. I didnt enjoy it. I was in a group of three and we were asked to join other peoples tables to have lunch. I didnt like that. By the way, you cant do the wine tasting and eat at the same time but I saw people ordering a bottle with their food. The waitress didnt explain that to me when I asked so I couldnt have what I wanted to order originally. We were told to order the food, then, go to the wine tasting area and come back and eat your food. Good luck next time.
fantastic! great food, delicious. great service. awesome price quality
Delicious food in a good atmosphere. Nice service.
This is the best lunchtime spot in Niagara on the Lake. Great atmosphere, really great food and service as well. Its often busy so plan ahead or just do a tasting while you wait because the selection of wines available here are really great as well.
Visited during September and ate on the patio. Visited again today and was not disappointed. Food was just as awesome as we remembered. Fresh local ingredients and wonderful combos of flavors.
We stopped by for lunch at the Farmhouse Cafe. We booked reservations online, which I can see being recommended during busy times like the summertime or weekends. Given that it was a weekday and already past the peak holiday season, it wasnt super busy when we went, so there was ample seating. The French onion soup was yummy, as were the shrimp tacos and steak sandwich (including accompanying beet salad). Our kids had grilled cheese and poutine, which was decent too. If youre in the Niagara area, its definitely worth grabbing lunch at this cafe or other places outside of the more touristy area by the falls. The server we were assigned was very nice and checked in on us throughout the meal. The food itself took a teeny big longer to come out, but nothing crazy. The cafe is attached to/part of Caroline Cellars. We didnt do a wine tasting. We have in the past, and it wasnt my favourite, so we didnt have any wine this time. However, its been a number of years, so maybe things are different now!
We also ate here as part of a wine tasting tour. Good and decent portions for a reasonable price. Spacious, friendly staff.
Our third time here. The food and ambience were good. The service ok. The waitress was rushing us.
Beautiful food, farm fresh and delicious! First visit and we WILL be going back on our next visit! Yummy Good!
Great shrimp tacos!
We were very pleased with all elements of visit service, food, parking and decor we with most likely come back on one of our cross boarder visits.
Absolute treat! If youre planning on doing a wine tour, YOU MUST make this hidden jem apart of your journey! Fantastic wines! Paired with amazing food and the best staff! Im definitely making this a regular trip!
Delicious food, good portions, and fair prices! I ordered the buttermilk chicken sandwich and blueberry crumble pie for dessert. Came with friends so I got to taste their orders too. There was a sauce on the side for the fries that was also pretty good. It was a bit busy when we got there so the coffee my friend got tasted a bit stale, but the waitress gave her a new cup of coffee when she brought it to her attention. Overall good experience Wheelchair accessibility: Everything is ground level. The entrances are wide and rooms spacious
Family owned place with a great menu. Try the poutine!
Fantastic service and delicious food. My Husband had a Reuben Panini and I had the buttermilk chicken sandwich and upgraded beet salad. Prices were reasonable too! Highly recommend!!
Always excellent food
OMG! So so good! You must eat here! Food is fantastic!!! Service was amazing! I will be back!
Our goto place for food when in the area.
Its a good place. I will go there again
Great experience here! Lovely waitresses and delicious food. The atmosphere is so welcoming and cozy, plus we celebrated a birthday and they surprised us with a candle in our dessert. Such a nice touch and very kind of them. Would highly recommend the food, and for the price it s very fair. Will be back!
Excellent! Delicious food (cubano panini and sirloin burger) maximising local produce served with a smile. Dietary restrictions: Good gluten free options (inc more than one dessert) and helpful explaining these choices.
Made reservations and got sat quickly. Service and food were wonderful. A bit noisy but they were full so its to be expected.
Stopped in for lunch. Above average food. Reasonable prices. Good service.
Wine tasting, then lunch or dinner. We had the Apple Brie Faltbread. Followed up with Seasonal Fruit Crumble. All tasted great!
Delicious food and great atmosphere, very cozy place in the wine country.
Great spot real food not too expensive
Dropped in on way back to Toronto from Niagara. We had to sit outside in a covered areaas the inside was full. There is no seating in the sun though, so it was a bit cold. Food OK, though belly pork bun was almost all fat.
The food here was seriously the best. The picture shows the sirloin burger and asparagus salad. It was the best salad Ive ever had in my life! The burger was awesome too!
My salad was delicious but my coffee and desert (lava cake) were only okay. Prompt, efficient and friendly service. Atmosphere was very loud and basic.
Not to be missed, a superb experience in a superb location
love the wine and food. amazing decor
Great wine! Wonderful restaurant with good selection. Loved the perch dinner! Highly recommended
We ate here during our weed and wine tour that we booked during our vacation. It s a very nice barn style restaurant. I had the grilled cheese and it was very very good, my boyfriend took the shrimp tacos and he liked those as well. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. I recommend giving this place a try if you re in the area!
Welcoming
Great meal. Enjoyed fries and burger
Many people have spoken highly about this restaurant and I will also be telling others about here also.
We visited many different wineries and restaurants during our weekend in NOTL, and this one was by far our favourite! I order a Reuben at many different restaurants and the one at Farmhouse was one of the best I ve had. Delicious! My husband ordered the Big Mac poutine and that was tasty as well. We were laughing because our bill was the lowest here out of every restaurant we visited, and yet it was our favourite meal. The prices are reasonable, the portions are big, and the food is delicious. We also did a wine tasting and purchased a bottle of ice wine, that was an amazing experience as well! If you re in the area, definitely check out this hidden gem.
Great experience
I ve always enjoyed this place on several occasion we visited. This last time I traveled with my 6 year old daughter and was surprised to find out that they do not have a children s menu! Shockingly they provide crayons and coloring pages but no special menu. We ended up ordering her a plain burger but were still charged for the fancy burger. That s the only reason I m giving this place a poor grade for service. Smarten up and accommodate the youngsters.
Ice cream takeout. It was good but a little pricey
Very good food and service. If you visiting the falls, make the drive up for better food and prices.
Our favorite place to visit when in the Niagara region.
Great spot for lunch! Sad that I couldnt try the grape juice but the food we all got was amazing. The chicken sandwhich was HUGE and was very juicy, would definitely get that again if we return to NOTL region. The patio is shaded as well.
Our entire party had excellent meals and really enjoyed the atmosphere. I would definitely recommend eating here!
Over-priced, mediocre food. I wasnt impressed with their menu. It was very limited.
Marissa made sure our large party got to sit together and took such good care of us
Ribs are so good! Ribeye steak sandwich is delicious too, with a nice smokey flavour. Staff were friendly, comfortable ambience. Wines available.
Love the cherry jam
The farmhouse cafe delivers fast and flavourful food with large portions at a fair price point, making it a great spot to have a decent lunch in the area. The sandwiches are the main attraction here, and the usual classic options are all available, like the Reuben sandwich and buttermilk chicken sandwich seen in the photos. All the sandwiches come with a side of fries or salad. Service was quick and attentive, and the restaurant has a nice barn / shed feel to it.
Great quality! Good portions! Taste: 9/10 Price: 8/10 Service: 8/10 All foods go well with wine
Sweet little place in the middle of Niagara wine country. Lunch was delicious and my server was super friendly. It was a bit noisy and more or less function over comfort, but still a nice place to eat lunch.
We were a group of 5 adults of which we had a vegetarian as well. The Farmhouse Bowl and the Pear & Blue cheese salad were outstanding. I would also recommend the Prawn Tacos! Delish!!
Excellent quality food for a reasonable price. Wine from their vineyard as well as some local craft beer. Service is friendly and atmosphere is active and busy. Good place for a stop if you are doing a wine tour and want some tasty food in a clean and happy locale. Fries are delicious, burger was excellent - recommended!
The food was great. Wished I was asked if I wanted to take what I didnt eat home as it was half of the meal.
A special shout-out to Justine and her amazing team at Caroline Cellars. This is our home away from home! The food is out of this world wonderful. We always feel like family when we walk in the door. Service was amazing today with Mary and the pear salad outstanding. We love our Caroline Cellars and cannot wait till we relocate here and eat here more frequently. Cannot say enough wonderful things. No wonder everyone raves about your food! Thank you for a wonderful lunch and we hope to see you again really really soon. Grace & Darrell Dodds soon to be Niagara-on- the-Lake residents.....:)
The food, atmosphere, and customer service were all great. Especially in the wine tasting area, a lovely lady gave detailed explanations. Ice wine is perfect as a souvenir! I want to go again
First time to the Farmhouse. Will definitely return.
We had dinner here for my Dad s birthday and it was a great experience! The hospitality was outstanding! Everyone was so nice! The food was delicious! Christine our server was the best, thank you for making it a great night! We will be back for sure!
Always a great place for food.
Food was spectacular!!! Server never came back around and asked if we wanted refills or more drinks. AND the gratuitee was already added to the bill when it was brought to the table Parking: We drive a larger pickup, and there was plenty of room to move around
Friendly service with great food. Try their daily soups. Delish.
Quant Cafe nestled in a local winery. Tye food prices are a bit of a premium, but the wine prices average your meal price out. The staff was friendly.
One of our favorite place to have lunch. Staffs are always friendly! Ed.
Very attentive and accommodating staff.
Great taste with fresh ingredients and nice combination of flavours. Grilled Cheese was surprisingly superb with the savoury and sweet combo. Mushroom daily soup was authentic and the greens were crisp and fresh. Prices are decent too!
Amazing food, quality, service, clean! So fresh!
Discovered this place on Google maps and dropped in for lunch. The place is a way off the main roads but the food and ambiance is excellent. The Arancini is recommended.
Delicious sandwiches
The Farmhouse Cafe food was very good. Was a great visit. T-shirts are so cute too.
Found this restaurant through google and made a reservation for wine tasting and lunch. They charge $5 for wine tasting per person, but if you are buying any wine then they don t charge you. Lunch menu was great and delicious. Portion sizes are good too. Highly recommended this restaurant.
Chrissy was a great waiter made the experience really fun we had a grate time here food was Amazing the grilled cheese is the best.
Amazing food best grilled cheese i ever had. the waitress was amazing. and they have amazing sauces
The wine is excellent! Cant wait to return when the restaurant is open. Cheers!
Super recommended. Dont miss the wine tasting first!
Delicious food, great service. Highly recommend the grilled cheese
Great food great prices
Good lunch spot. Portions are generous and good value.
Delicious, inexpensive and lovely helpful staff
The food was decent but our server was wonderful!
Our group of 7 enjoyed our lunch here. They re located adjacent to. Caroline Cellars. Nice menu and good service. Portions and pricing are good.
The wine was so good! We went for a tasting tour for a Bachelorette party and this was one of the stops. It was so good.
Delicious food, delicious wine and amazing service. Looking forward to my next visit to Caroline winery.
Make sure you book a reservation-
The asparagus salad was delicious. I chose to add the grilled chicken.
Friendly staff and delicious food. Its an open and very inviting space. The staff do their best to accommodate and keep an eye out for the needs of the guests. The food is flavourful without the boat loads of salt that some places substitute for taste. Anything they do on the grill is highly recommended since you can taste the cooking.
Very good & reasonable.
Good food and at a good price point. Im personally not a fan of the barnyard style interior but to each their own. The staff were friendly and service was quick. Recommend making a reservation if you want patio seating and dont want to compete for a seat with groups on wine tours.
Had a family lunch here. The steak sandwich was great. Wasnt a fan of the poutine that day, wouldve preferred ketchup on the side instead of mixed with the gravy. They change up their poutines often. Enjoyed their pinot grigio.
Made a res for 3. Arrived at 245 and no table ready. Tried to go a quick tasting at Caroline Cellars while we waited but they couldnt accommodate us. No worries as we did a tasting 2 weekends ago. Seated by 255. We started with the Arancini and it was average/underwhelming. We ordered the chicken and rice bowl and fried chicken sammy. While the bowl had great flavors, the chicken was dry. The sandwich was not crunchy, as advertised. Side poutine was ok (more cheese curds needed). Creme Brule small and cold.
Clean ,service is great Faring price large portions Will back
A very nice food selection. We were a group of 9 people and ordered different meals. All excellent. The wine also was good.
A very nice restaurant located in a wine yard. Took a sandwich and it was pretty good! Drink is nice too! Highly recommended, don t forget to reserve
Great experience and overall quality customer service
Great food and service
Super cheap pours from the wine tour hostess
Great winery and especially the food. Get the peach salad and perogi poutine
Delicious meals, especially liked their peach salad. Parking: Plenty of spots
Great food. Excellent service
Friendly place. I had the grilled peach salad and it was very delicious.
Our group had an amazing time, the food portions were amazing and the location, atmosphere and staff were amazing!!!! Definitely will come back
The Farmhouse Cafe is a great location to get some food outside of the main part of Niagara on the lake. Parking: Large parking area.
Delicious food and staff was really friendly. Super quick service as well. Definitely a great brunch/lunch option if youre touring wineries in the area.
Familiar dishes that will make your mouth water at affordable prices.
One year later, it was praised again. The wine is really good. I will definitely buy a few more bottles next time I go there...
Overall great family experience!
Great service and tasty food
Great sandwiches and wine. Nice view from outdoor patio.
Delicious food, despite a bit of a wait to get a table. It was lovely sitting outside under the covered dining area. The combination salmon and salad option was delicious.
Good selection of food, I believe all under $20. Serving is a lot too. Simple menu but everything is tasty. Highly suggest to make reservations. We had a good time here in celebration of my mothers birthday. The staff are friendly and attentive. Parking: Lots of free parking
Good food and nice vibe . Worth visiting and prices are fair too
Great little wine country cafe with unique weekly food options.
Best place for food in Niagara Canada area. Pls reserve your table at least 1 day in advance. It is that great! First time, did not know, ate food in my car and it was super already... Came a 2nd time with reservation and boy I was so happy at the quality n freshness of the food served.
Food sooo good, great wine!
Really cool location. The farmhouse vibe is great. The food was also excellent! Definitely recommend.
The ribs are amazing, served with coleslaw that is light and flavourful, and the fries are to die for! But the aoli is garlicky and so tasty you gotta eat here!
Amazing selection of delicious foods
They truly deserve a 5-star rating. The food was so yummy, staff were friendly, and the restaurant itself was cozy. They serve their own wines as well. However, they are a small winery and their products cannot be bought anywhere else.
Lunch was very good
Excellent food and wine.
food was very good, tasty. this is our second time here and we will be back. Harvest salad and latest menu 11/22
Stopped in for lunch, after a morning of hiking. Crowded, but we were easily seated. Staff if friendly and helpful. I ordered a Rib Eye Steak sandwich, which was delicious. Prices are fair, and the atmosphere is kind of pine rec hall chic. Definitely worth a return visit.
The food was delicious (the amazing poutine, beet and sweet potato sandwich and pickerel tacos), with lots of menu choices. But the highlight is always the exceptional service. I dont temember the name of the waitress originally from the Little Red Rooster, but she is wonderful!
This is one of our favorite places to eat in NOTL. All the sandwiches are delicious, highly recommend upgrading to the delicious peach or beet salad with your meal. The dry Rose is lovely!
The food was very tasty and the service very friendly
