Al The Wops is a historic bar and steakhouse located in Locke, California. Founded in 1934, this bar and restaurant has seen it all. You know the old adage, "if these walls could talk!" We invite you to join us at the same great Delta Bar & Steakhouse you have come to love over the years. In addition to the steaks you know us so well for, we have plenty of kitchen specials, we serve Taco Night every Monday from 4PM - 8PM, and we serve All You Can Eat Pasta Night every Tuesday from 4PM - 8PM. Check out our social media for more information and updates!
Dive bar with excellent food. Parking is a little dicey but this place is worth the bet. My daughters took me out for my birthday. One had the shrimp, fish & chips. We all had a bite of the others meals. The fish and the shrimp was top notch. Crispy, flavorful and hot. My other daughter and I shared a ribeye steak meal. Plenty big for the two of us. Melted in the mouth. The sweet potato fries were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The Brussel sprouts were fantastic! Tangy and just the right texture. Definitely will return.
We are coming to get food to take out. The fish and chips are seriously beyond this world: we never had anyone make it better. The fish is fried to perfection, the tartar sauce is homemade and delicious. We tried it with regular fries but also with onion rings and garlic fries. Everything is just delicious! You cannot go wrong with this dish! Also the service is super friendly and always happy
I wanted to give this place a 5 simply because of it's unique character. However, over an hour wait for our meal and then errors made in what we were delivered did undermine the experience. That being said, management did comp something on the bill to amend the situation. Folks there were really great, customers and staff alike. I will definitely give it another try and modify my review at the time if deemed appropriate.
Brought my husband here to introduce him to a historical cult classic. I’ve been here plenty of times for drinks in my college days and I knew the food was good, but I had never tried it until today and it is by far one of the best dive bar places you can get food. Don’t come here if if your a snob though it is a hole in the wall with plenty of history. If you’re into photography, I used to always come to Locke to take pics. Make a day of it and go into Al’s for a burger. I hear their steaks are amazing. This time, we had a dinner to go to later so we split a BLT and brussels sprouts which were really really good. If you’re into history and you like a good dive bar than this is your place. Oh yeah and their garlic fries are amazing!
I've been coming here for 60 yrs. It's iconic. The bar life has always been great. Food on the hand has been OK. But this time, the Cobb salad was excellent. Every bite was fresh and tasty. My compliments to the chef!
Best Burger in the Delta, hands down ! As a kid we came here to eat dinner as a big treat I remember the steak, mushrooms, french fries being so good. I came back with my son. We both had perfect hamburgers. The meat was top grade, the secret sauce on the burger and ranch dressing are homemade. We started with fantastic brussel sprouts with blue cheese on top. The beer was cold with frozen glasses & the service was excellent. What more could you want ? If you like GREAT food & cold drinks in an classic delta landmark, get you ASS in here♥️
A wonderful historic restaurant/bar along the delta that serves up food so good that you can taste that love that went in to it. My wedge salad was crisp and fresh, and the buffalo chicken sandwich was mouth watering. Oh, and the beer was cold too. I will be back!
Funky old dive that's been around for decades. I remember going with my parents in the 70s. Great burger. Garlic fries were loaded with garlic. If you want peanut butter for your garlic bread or steak, you have to ask for it now.
The Best place to eat in the world
My friend brought me to this unique bar to eat. Love the atmosphere! Food was amazing but having to wait over an hour for the hamburger was a bit much. Locals were very friendly. Will I go back if in the area again, most certainly.
OMG Great Food Good Service Food
Always a blast from the past... The original steak dinner never disappoints.
If you love hometown vibes, good food and service. This is a great place to check out. Well be back
I love this bar!
This is a historical bar in the town of Locke. Parking is in the back, and you walk into the old town through the front door. Lots of nostalgic period photos and decor. You will find Klampers and motorcycle riders during the day. Locals hang there at night. Vegetarian options: Pickled veggies! Parking: You can park in the field by the entrance to the town or towards the back by the garden.
This is now way over priced. I ve been coming here for over 30 years and they have a taco night. This is such a disappointment. Absolutely ruined the menu. 32.00 for the steak sandwich and I saw no peanut butter. Hey new owner. You re going to looses so much business. RUINED!!!
Great place! Cheeseburgers and onion rings were delicious, steak was a tad over cooked.
Classic old rustic bar & restaurant nothing fancy, we enjoyed everything, place is a step back to over a hundred years ago. If you like such a thing,GO dont miss out, friendly local people.
I will be back, yet I have to say I was unusually disappointed this past weekend.Usually the food is great; Ive been coming here for 4 years mostly for the steak dinner, yet, this time everything was off! Steak was overdone and less flavorful than usual, garlic tater tots were not cooked in the oil properly (too much oil soaked in them, and the garlic was not distributed evenly, it was all on the bottom of the plate) and not enough balsamic glaze on the brussel sprouts.(Asked for more on the side to help give them their flavor.) Last time I was here I had the fish tacos and was disappointed at the overall flavors of 1.)the sauce they choose to use and 2.)the undercooked taste of their corn tortilla. I hope Als will reinvent their fish taco recipe, unless the locals like it how they are currently prepared. The sauce was not what I imagined could compliment fish tacos. If I had a choice I would use a creamy lime, possibly creamy lime cilantro. As for the off night of the steak dinner preparation Im confident that it will be sorted out and will be back to an excellent experience.
Love the atmosphere, love the food.
Its a dive bar! And that is what you experience. Rustic and friendly. The food was very good, but the fries were exceptional. The service was excellent as well. It was worth the drive.
Its been a while since Ive eaten here last time I came probably a year or two before COVID and the stakes were amazing at that time. My steak was half raw and the other half was overcooked I dont know how you can do that but it was done. Positive side waitress was awesome shes also the manager and the clam chowder was delicious.
Been here a few times now! Steak is great, drinks are cheap and well made. Very dog friendly! Which I appreciate. Highly recommended
Not recommended. At the time we were there, Fri 3/22/2024 the food service took close to an hour (not just for us, but other tables). No doubt they were understaffed that day (though they were very polite). Food quality was very average.
Cheap drinks and friendly service. What more do you need in a dive bar? My kind of place. Ill be back again.
Fun, historic place.
Best lunch on the Delta/ got to try steak with peanut butter/ you to will be a convert.
Sorry no photos - ate my 1/2lb burger too fast. ***Fixed - added photos*** Service was great, love the quirky vibe of the place, food quality is good for bar food. Nice job on the garlic fries. Worth checking out if you are in the area. Food : 3/5
This place is a perfect fit for Locke. Its unique, rough around the edges, very friendly, with a dark bar in front, dollar bills on the ceiling, lots of memorabilia from days gone by in the walls, floors just a bit tilted. Small well lit dining room in the back with picnic tables. Clean tiny bathroom with creaky doors. Sometimes crowded, sometimes hardly anyone there. I suspect a lot of weekend folks come here after a day of hiking at the Consumnes reserve, or exploring the Delta. It can be very noisy weekend evenings. The food was great. My BLAT was full of bacon and avocado. My friends raved about the onion rings and the spaghetti. I had tater tots. They were crunchy and good and somehow they represent this place. Simple and good from the past. Kid-friendliness: During the day you could easily take the kids thru the bar to the little dining room. Lots of kids-friendly food in the menu. Hamburger, Mac and cheese, tater tots. Picnic table atmosphere. Wheelchair accessibility: A few of the tables would have enough room for a wheelchair at the end. But small area, tables close together, Its better for someone who could transfer and slide across the picnic bench and be able to sit without back support.
GREAT, VERY REASONABLE, GREAT SERVICE
A very cool bar/restaurant where you can throw money up the ceiling. The drinks were affordable compared to most bar here in Sacramento.
The town is a fun old part of Californias history.. The food at Als is the best. Fish and chips are my favorite with a ice cold beer. Lockport ice cream parlor and old hotel down the road is worth a stop to cap a lunch or dinner.
Great atmosphere, great food, excellent service. If you like a bar off the beaten path that has personality but will give you great food and a good time, Als is the place. Cannot say enough good things about my time tonight.
I had the best steak and mushrooms that Ive had in years and years. I love the atmosphere because its an old place. I remember all the dollars that they put on the ceiling. I had not been there in 40 years. I will be back Sandy said
i should have more to say about als but in this rare case my words just dont do it justice. best put it this way: indescribably essential. not the experience itself but that having a place like als in todays world is not only unusual but that knowing its likes still exist simply must be, for a certain balance of the cumulative human spirit to survive if only in the mind. to end it here if you want the quick and easy, the steak dinner on sunday night is probably the key experience, but only if you can tolerate the marauding bikers. otherwise, dont go then. also dont just come for the steak, buy the t-shirt and wear it if you have balls. i recently treated to dinner here a jewish friend from nys upper east side, bought him the short-sleeve version, simple elegantly black and understated dont you agree? we were of course quite drunk at the time. he swore on his mothers grave, not exactly so but in whatever way it is that jews do to assure something, then and there to wear it once back home and strolling down fifth some afternoon, and very soon. so far he reports not having done so as yet. pigs will fly first. try it yourself, but maybe begin with dinner on a tuesday.
This place is cool and tucked away foods ok and the beer was beer
Good service beer nice and cold people very friendly do recommend
Good food, good service
Historic bar with awesome history, great vibes and good food. 10/10 will return
Place not to miss
Fun stuff
Everyone made us feel like we came home for the holiday! Had a great meal, awesome Manhattans and a wonderful time.
The best steaks!
Service and food are both great! Haven t had a bad thing. The town is neat as well.
Fun place..will be back
I love Al s ! Fantastic dive bar ambience, great food, great drink! Friendly staff, a great Delta hangout!
The food is okay and the atmosphere is fun and interesting. The kitchen is so slow. It took an hour and a half to just get soup. Super unorganized place. We saw people come in after us served 45 minutes before we were.
Always a fun place to visit. Its worth the drive.
Historic little town (well street really) good food. A waypoint for us always when traveling the sloughs (2 wheels preffered) but a must for any travelor.
Had a chicken sandwich that was delicious usually I have a steak which is also delicious
Terrible experience. We had 3 people in our party and only 1 person got their food after an hour. The sandwich and fries were cold and the meat was dry. Never again.
Second star is only for the bartender, Suzanne. She hustled and was very obviously having a rough day. We didn t get to try the food since after an hour and forty five minute wait it still hadn t arrived and I had to leave. (Watched it take someone 45 minutes just to get a wedge salad lol) I might come back if I m ever in Locke- super cute little town and interesting atmosphere in the restaurant- but I ll probably just stick to beer if I go again.
Good for a friendly bartender and a beer with good music in a cute little town. Good food too. I had ribs and potatoes this evening and had a great server (Ginny) Parking: The is a free public parking lot a block north. Plenty of parking
This has a down home feel and is popular with both locals and people arriving into town. The only thing I didnt super love was the drunk lady at the bar giving me the stink eye while I was trying to order food. I could have done without that piece
Love it here!!
Dive bar excellence.
MUST VIST... FOOD GOOD.. .. TOWN OF LOCK..HINDEN . Parking: PARKING IS KINDA, BASICALLY YOU HAVE TO FIND SPOT THATS OUT OF THE WAY. YOU MIGHT GET LUCKY AND A SPOT IN FRONT OF THE RESTAURANT.... Kid-friendliness: THE STAFF... AND THE PEOPLE YOU MET.
When in town we always come here.
Havent been there since we moved out of state, Just wonder why the name change, noone was ever offended before. Comments?
History was fantastic!
Old Town from the 1800s. Very old and rustic Bar/restaurant, hidden.. Surprisingly, great food. We really enjoyed the fish tacos , garlic fries, tater-tots, bacon cheeseburger, chicken sandwich..
My family s waiter was named Kevin!!! To our surprise he was also our Chef and dishwasher!!! A Jack of all trades cooked a 5 star dinner for my entire family! One of the best steaks I ever had; along with some awesome shrimp! Stop in and see him!!! Remember his name Kevin . His next step should be the Food Channel!!!!!!!
Good food and friendly atmosphere Parking: Park across the street or along the street Kid-friendliness: Restaurant seating
Must see bar in Locke for a beer and soaking up the local flavor
I didn t know what to expect. My husband had a steak and I had a pork chop with potatoes and brussel sprouts. It was delicious!
Always delicious. This time had the fish and chips.
Main Street in Locke is very cute. Very hisroric, old Western feel. The street is not visible from the highway. This is a restaurant/ bar. Bar is in the front. Its one of a couple places you can eat in town. Standard American fare. Decent. Its a little bit dark in the back, but good for a quick bite.
Amazing hole in the wall! Great drinks and atmosphere. Easily one of the best hamburgers I have ever had.
Been here a few times over 50 years, nice to see places stay true to themselves.
Its a cool spot to stop. I got the BLAT and thought it was pretty decent. The bartender was friendly and attentive. The place definitely has a unique vibe going on and its in a cool historic spot. Worth a stop I think.
Always the same great pit Stop.
Foods good, beers are cold. Great place to ride the motorcycle to.
Great place to dine in a quaint historic town
Fine for what it was...good food with large portions though! Bread especially, and the homemade peanut butter (homemade PBJ came with my salad) and the delicious BLT! Id come here again if I was already in the area. Good garlic fries
Cute place. Good food. They were nice enough to make my burger into a lettuce wrap. Staff is very friendly.
Good food and good service
Good food and service!
Great food!
Awesome place lots of memorabilia To look at nice people oh wonderful bartender waitress and the food was amazing thank you for letting me post my sons picture on the outside of your establishment
My wife s chicken was like burnt jerky, and my hamburger was ok, tots weren t cooked enough.
Best cocktail at decent price.
Great little place weve gone for years. It is an experience not only food! So few places now have any real character but Als is ALL character. We love it and will go there forever! Nice little drive and always fun to explore Locke and surroundings
Great food and drinks!!
A very interesting historic district. Today, most of the stores were closed but we did visit the ones that were open.
Ahh yes, I dont drink alcohol but Als has it all even outstanding beer on tap, I was visiting for the food fantastic! Its menu has changed with a little more choices,30yrs ago you could only get a steak and bread which I was enjoying the great beer with a great steak, even though no more alcohol Als is the place nice river scene to boot.
Great place!! Good people! Good food!
Had the Cheese Burger and Garlic Fries. One of the best burgers I ve had in a long time. The Garlic fries were Amazing.
Best bar in Locke. Atm, clean bathroom. Hot food.
Great good very nice service. A landmark. Been going for 35 years. Plan on going another 35 years.
Friendly! Good service!
Great old style delta bar. Try the a BLT for lunch.
My steak was cooked the way I asked for it to be cooked .
Dynamite steak@
Beer. Whiskey. Tilted floor.and surrounding buildings, dont sweat it. Als will be standing even after were not.
Awesome Place, Great Food Great Staff!!!
Wonderful service with great food and new friends
Food was great service is great need I ask more
30 years of eating here. Never disappoints!
Loved the atmosphere. Great bartender!!! Great food and drinks
Large portions, great service.
Old school dive that needs to be visited. Dont sweat the drive, the delta has some great views. The banana peppers with peanut butter (free at the bar) are better than you think. Updated 8/28/2022 New ownership will provide peppers and peanut butter if you ask. Thats about the biggest change I noticed. I want to trust that the burgers are as good as before. Susanna seemed nice enough, (I only know her name because I overheard her introducing herself to someone else at the bar).
We stopped in on a Sunday. The bar was pretty full and there were a few open tables in the back. Food was coming out of the kitchen and it smelled great. We asked where we should sit and the server looked me dead in the eye and said they were closed. I have no idea why we werent seated...hadnt ever been there before and it seemed like a great, quirky place to stop. That was disappointing.
Great was food..we had a big group and the service was great..everyone liked their dishes
Feels like youve gone back in time, old school, great food and drinks.
Rustic
Great place, authentic for the area. Friendly staff and clientele.
Very chill dive bar!
Stopped on our way to the point restaurant while out on a motorcycle ride with friends. It was a good atmosphere and service.
Great place with awesome food
Great turkey sandwich
Its hit and miss regarding its hours of operation. Right now they are closed for the next week.
Always a little small town stop, along a river run, for a good dream getting a nice steak.
New owners are busy scrubbing, preparing to re-open in mid-February (2021). They promise to keep it exactly as it was before, but cleaner . Can t wait to go back.
This place reminds me of a great country song. Cant wait to go back and celebrate
Als is open!!
Food was Really good... Great little Stop
Always a great time and food never disappoints. Jessica is one of the best bar tenders around...
Delish
Great service friendly place
My parents used to bring us here as kids. Always a fun time.
Does this place have crawfish on a regular basis or do they have crawfish boils on certain days?
Always a good time to be had. Father s Day was no exception. Great people/food/drinks!
Big burgers do not get any better. You will need to travel far & wide to find one bigger. They should edit the hours posted on website as they start serving food at 12:00, not 11:00.
Rock solid dive bar and restaurant. It is a must stop if you are in the area.
Go with fun people and the staff here will make sure you have a good time! Birthday dinner and drinks did not disappoint. Big ol Steak was grilled to perfection.
A monument in the delta area. Great steaks, cold drinks, friendly people! Go here!
I love going for the steak, spaghetti, bread and spread my peanut butter and jelly. Taste great with the steak. Only $25.00
Great food, clean, and friendly service. Burgers, fried chicken and fish and chips.
Always great, always feels like home. Ive been going for over 20 years. Brought some friends who have never been. They loved it also ! Always telling folks to go best of the best.
Really great food and top notch customer service! If youre driving through Walnut Grove, you have to experience Als.
We ate there in 1983 with A friend and his sister! We were cruising in her Houseboat on the delta and dropped anchor on the river and walked thru town! Fascinating place to visit!!!!!
Food was good, but it took a long time, and it was very loud in the bar. One gal had an extremely shrill high pitched laugh (startled me every time)
Food and service were top notch. Suzanne s smile and laughter is contagious. New owners took over and are putting everything they have into making your experience the best possible. Kudos to Chris Menke. His love of Al s and the delta is apparent the second you talk to him. So happy to have him running the place. I couldn t imagine taking over a business right now when suppliers have product one week and not the other and prices for product can fluctuate by $3 a pound in a week. Disregard any previous negative reviews while last owner had the place. Chris and the staff are making Al s Al s again. Thank you.
What a neat place in a cool town. Good food
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!! LOVE ALS!!!
Delicious comfort food at an old time bar and hole in the wall restaurant. Love the hamburger with grilled bread and french fries. The fried chicken is a best buy as long as it is not over done. Overall, a great place for some good homestyle food. Nice attentive staff.
Great food and drinks. Excellent people. From New York steak to grilled cheese on Texas toast, cannot go wrong.
Good Juicy steak, garlic fries were tasty. Great Bloody Mary. Had a nice meal. Staff was very friendly and good service too. First time there, will be back for more steak in the future.
Family tradition to go eat steaks here!! The best!
Awesome place met the owners on a 9/11 ride! God bless the United States of America
Me wife and I stopped in a few weeks back and enjoyed lunch there. We met one of the new owners and had a chat with him. The steak was prepared excellent. In the old days back when the boys ran the place at lunch. They had 2 sizes of steak and the best part was they served a few slices of French Brad grilled in butter and had peanut butter as a spread. They flattened a tablespoon flat and it was used for a speaker. Brought back lots of memories. Thanks guys and good luck. Lew
Awesome food and great staff. Very welcoming
What a great, out of the way, place to enjoy an evening out. The atmosphere is relaxing, and the staff are very enjoyable. You get a real sense of local history while walking past the little shops on the wooden sidewalks.
No place on earth like this awesome CA delta location, from the history of the town to the amazing food you should go now!
So awsome!!! Good drinks and bomb food. So awsome.
Great dive bar with good food. Excellent Bloody Marias
Not fancy but a fun spot to check out an Historic landmark. Bring your appetite.
Love this place!
Cant expect much from a hole in the wall bar. The steak sandwich I ordered I wanted med. well. It was served rare and fatty. The service was so slow I didnt bother sending it back. Cooked it some more the next day. Could barely talk as the place was so loud. Still a very cool relaxed little town.
Deliciously simple food, and huge steaks, at an affordable price.
There is no place like Als.
Always have a great time at Als! Whats not to love? Great people, great location, great drinks, great food, great music and great fun! If they had a pool table - Id be in Heaven! Love this place!
Super duper
Taco Monday was nice. Loved the old atmosphere and company. The bartender was quick and very nice. Getting my dollar tacked to the ceiling on my 1st try was fun. Ill try it again soon.
Shhhh, dont tell anyone. Best steak around added with great old vibes.
Charbroiled burger on French bread and garlic frys
What a nice place! Had Als Burger and would always take it again. A delicious and simple place.
Lots of memories for me. But lets face it, its a bar.
Could not yet eat inside but theres a wood table just down the sidewalk and the bartender/waitress brought our food to us. BEST HAMBURGER EVER! Thank you!
Went there once in about 1972 w/my high school sweetheart/first wife. Very fond memory of the occasion; really dont remember much about the meal.
One of my favorites for motorcycle lunches. Deep fried asparagus when in season is a favorite for sure! Always enjoyed the visit in this very unique and fun place to stop.
Unless all you want is a good beer, do not go until after the pandemic. Menu is only fish, shrimp and chips. No steak or spaghetti! Staff is really nice though.
This place is great. The service was impeccable and the burger was scrumptious!
