Tony's Place is a historic Bar & Steakhouse in the California Delta. Our Bar is open 10AM to Closing Time 7 Days a Week. That time varies greatly! But if you're here, rest assured, we will keep our locally owned watering hole open for you. Our Restaurant serves its Classic American Lunch Menu 7 Days a Week from 11AM to 4PM. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays we serve our Steakhouse Dinner Menu from 5PM until 9PM. The Kennedy Family invites you to enjoy our traditional local establishment as we have recently increased food quality, incorporated tried and true Delta Chefs, added Prime Beef, and continue to make our Side Dishes-- including the same Portuguese Beans recipe you remember-- with love.

We really wanted Tony’s to be good but it was so disappointing. The restaurant and bar are clean and have a great feel, service was friendly, but the food was terrible. We ordered the chicken wings, burger, and fish and chips. One bite in and you could instantly tell all of the food was frozen.The fish and chips and chicken wings were just awful, and the burger was edible, but that’s it. Tony’s was that little spot on the river you really thought would be great but the food will keep us from returning.
The staff was friendly and the place was clean. Being a local hangout and landmark in Walnut Grove it had a good atmosphere. The service was truly terrible. It took over an hour AFTER we ordered to get our food. Granted a large party came in after us, but an hour? Really? Other patrons just gave up and left. We could see the cook working like a demon in the back ...but all the orders went out to the bar. Weird. The waitress seemed confused about why we were so impatient, like an hour to make a hamburger and fries was normal. Anyway, the food was okay, but definitely not worth the drive off of I-5.
This was our favorite place years ago and we decided to go for our anniversary. The sodas were flat and overly sweet, the Portuguese beans were so disappointing tasted like they were from a can, no taste only spicy, the bake potatoes were under cooked and not hot, the shrimp was tasteless and the $38.00 steak was full of fat (half of the steak was just fat) and very greasy. Then they charged more if you used credit vs cash. The waitress was talking to everyone and even tried giving our food to someone else. The only thing eatable was the salad and veggies. We paid $114.00 + tip for this experience and the added bonus was my husband and I both got sick afterwards ☹️
We rolled into Tony's for late lunch while going for a cruise on the river. The bar was busy with a large tribe of jovial characters. We were lucky to be alone in the dining room and Sunny let us have our boxer (dog) hang out under our table. We proceeded to have the best steak and French dip and sandwich we had in a very long time. Our lunch came hot and excellent. Really tasty. We'll be back soon ! Cher & Bill
part prime steak house part awesome dive bar. Stopped coming down from Oregon. 5 miles from the 5 but worth the drive. Prime steaks and 1/2 lb Harris Ranch burgers. And the drinks are every bit as good. The owner has had it for almost 2 decades and knows what people like.
I can't say enough good things about this small bar. First of all the service was amazing, (Carey/Karie) quickly greeted us with a smile, and always made sure we were satisfied after every drink, he even suggested a pizza place within walking distance, and let us bring the pizza back to the bar. Over the time we were there he told us some of the history of the small town, and made us feel right at home. If you're looking to get away from the city, and want a more personal, and friendly environment. This is the place to go! Plus the drinks were made great, and reasonably priced. You're guaranteed to get your money worth. 5-Stars from us!

Under new ownership and the new owner is really making an effort to spruce the place up. Slowly of course, you have to have money to make money. It was a great place before and I cant wait to see the improvements he has in store for the place. Cant wait to go back and see how far he had gotten by the next time I make it by. The food was great and not overpriced like most places are now days. I would recommend stopping in for some food or just a cocktail if you happen to be passing through.

Been here before, but some things have changed fro the better. We were a very large crowd for lunch and they took good care of us. No complaints about the food and the service was spot on. My oriental chicken salad was very good and the dressings were excellent, the onion rings were large and hot and plenty! V had a mushroom burger with fries, tasty but a little too medium for someone who like rare - med rare. The Portuguese beans were good, especially with the added pepper sauce. Good meal, good service. We will be back if in the area again. We love the drive down the Sacramento River and its rivertowns.

An old river town hideaway. Great food and friendly atmosphere. I will hit the bar next time thru. The steak sandwich is to die for and so tender (med. rare OH Yeah!). I cannot decide what I will try next time. Parking: I just had to drive around the block to find something.

I have been going here since Tony owned it. There is no way anything at this place resembles this place. They need to change the name. The place is a insult to Smoky the chef and Tony the owner. The French dip I just tried and I can make a much better myself.
Great drinks, food and people!
Tonys is a good bar and place to snack on. Only thing I wish was better was that they do cash only. No debt or credit on all purchases. They have an ATM inside but it charged I believe $2/$5 per transaction. Other than that its a good spot to enjoy some drinks. Just dont forget to bring cash ;)
We found this hidden gem just walking/exploring. It just kind of appeared out of nowhere. We definitely will be back.

Food is always good for lunch or dinner. Great waitresses and friendly chef. Outdoor patio and indoor dining also. Grilled Steak with Bleu Cheese sprinkled on top is excellent, grilled to perfection.

Theres something to say about local watering holes. No matter how fantastic the place is, it can easily be ruined by locals. Unfortunately this was our experience. First time there, we were looking for food but due to them not serving food at that time, recommended a different local restaurant (wimpys, do not go there. Its terrible). So kudos to them for atleast trying to help us out. We returned because we got a great warm amd fuzzy about the place and wanted to get drinks. Came back fortunately at the right time one night since they experienced power loss and almost shut down. We got there and were immediately out off by the local drunks and felt unsafe. We ended up having 1 drink and leaving without finishing them. Would love to give them another try some day.

This place was awesome. The people here are great! Very welcoming crowd. My first time in town. I recommend the Philly with onion rings. Best Philly I ve had in a long time!

I can assure you, despite what the Google ratings may suggest, that this place is definitely a 3. A 4-star restaurant carries Pelegrino, and a 5-star restaurant serves it to you and pours your glass while holding it in a towel. This restaurant does neither so it cannot be greater than 4-stars. Food was ok. 3-starish. A1 and condiments on the table suggest that seasoning may be lacking (it was). The restaurant also only takes cash, and makes you withdraw from an ATM machine when you want to pay with card . A little bit sketch but Our waitress was very nice though. Edit to respond to owner: I m not new to the Delta, in fact, I traveled to your restaurant via Jet Ski . I am also not new to eating delicious cuisine from around the globe, and I can assure you, despite your perceived historical relevance that everything about your establishment is three-star. It s ok to have 3-star restaurants around. If you didn t exist, I wouldn t really be able to enjoy a 5-star meal. We need to be reminded of what true quality is by dining in places such as yours. I definitely will maybe be back if the Mexican place is closed. Also, if you ve been anticipating this review, then you were already aware that this is a 3-star spot.
Its a bar with an ATM full of old locals who might live in there. It was freezing inside. The steak sandwich was ok. Fries undercooked and soggy. Service was good. Got to sample the Portuguese beans....what a bland experience. Maybe Ill like em when Im 80 and have no teeth.
Just plain old great food and people. I renovated the roof for the owners a few years ago but while I was there for a few days, the owners actually accommodated me upstairs from the bar. I was treated like family and really enjoyed working for these wonderful people! BTW: All the food items here are very tasty and made with love. Steve H- Grass Valley, CA.

Food was pretty good. Well done, taste was alright. Homey and humble atmosphere with a good amount of seating, rather dated but nice decor for a certain mood. Staff were very nice. The glass for my soda I got tasted a bit like... they had previously been used for beer.
Cool old fashioned bar and restaurant. Like you stepped back in time. I had chicken fried chicken is was good. Also new York steak was really good.
Interesting combo of a dive bar and quaint steakhouse in one. Outside of building would never indicate theres a restaurant inside as it looks 100% like a bar. We had salad, wings and shrimp dinner but there was a steak special. Everthing was good and portion size generous. The dining room temperature was a bit cold, I left my jacket on as well as other diners I observed. Parking wad a bit tight because they are on the corner of Main Street.
Were originally a group of 6. Grew to 12. They took it in stride but they would like 48hrs. Notice for groups 8 or more. Service and food great as usual

Had to try out their beans . Everyone there was eating some . Took them to go and got a bacon cheese burger for my boyfriend. We ate by the water it was a nice day . Next time Ill buy the quart of beans togo. So yummy

I moved to SoCal 24 yrs ago and came back to visit old friends. Went to Tonys of course. Had the best time ever!! It really hasnt changed much. (Which is a GOOD thing) fun bartenders and cooks. If youre not into having fun stay away. They always make it memorable. My sides were aching from laughing. I really miss that place. Great food always.

Fantastic. We loved the food and had a great time at Tonys. After over 10 years we returned and were surprised and extremely pleased with the delicious dishes and delightful service. It was a wonder how promptly and beautifully served to all eleven of us. Would have taken photos but everything looked so amazing...couldnt wait.

Quaint place. Dive-bar vibe with good food and a staff you can tell loves each other like family, maybe even better than family. stopped by randomly while on a bike ride along the river and found this local spot to be a good stop for chilling and grabbing lunch. We may not rush to go back, but not opposed to going back at all and Id like to try more lunch items. We both tried the suggested Philly-Dip and my girlfriend, who eats like a bird, finished every bite of this 8 stuffed sandwich. Staff was fun, talkative and accommodating, even turned on music for us outside upon request. If youre looking for fine dining, go somewhere else, but if youre looking for tasty food, that small-town vide and pretty good service with a smile, stop by, they wont disappoint.

We stopped off here on our way to Sacramento. We LOVED it! Great staff, atmosphere and food. A quaint local bar and grill in Walnut Grove. The waitress we had, Chelsey, asked if we had ever been in before, we said no, and she proceeded to tell us all the traditional ways of how to eat the food and how everything on the menu came. It was amazing. We will definitely come back soon.

Today, I called and an older lady Caucasian answered and I said, may I speak to someone that speak spanish just to get the order correctly. A little back story, I called days prior and spoke to Spanish cooking gentleman ; he was very helpful (jose) and made a decent order for my workers that we very much enjoyed. Today! Ill name her BETTY, answered the phone and I said the same thing as the first time can I speak to a Spanish speaking person please? She said, who? I said, Spanish speaking person like the cook. Betty then said who? Jose?! I said, yes. She then proceeded to say, ugh, I have an American cook today and he is an American who speaks English and since YOU are in America you also should learn English!!, as a gentleman, all I said was thank you and disconnected. If she treated me, a customer like that I cant imagine how she treats everyone else! I took my money to another local pizza place and my workers had a decent lunch today. ~From a hard working mans wife that made sure our Hispanic community knew not to have a horrible experience Gracias

Hole in the wall bar in the middle of nowhere. Big hill. Coming out of the place so be sure and carry enough speed or you will drop your bike.

This place was great. I went for a drive with the kids and when we got hungry we were near Tonys place. Never been there before. We walked it and the people were very friendly. They have this really cool arcade game that has like 1000s of games in the one arcade. It has all the classics, really cool. The owner, well I assumed he was the owner not actually sure, anyways he was super nice with kids and got them all set up to play with the game. Kids got grilled cheeses and I had a cheeseburger. It was really good and oh yeah order the side of beans and ask for the hot sauce they recommend for the beans. Dont know what it is but man it was really good.
