Took my wife for our anniversary dinner and was not disappointed. The food, service and atmosphere were amazing. It was a little on the pricey side but well worth it. If I have any criticisms it would be that dining inside didn’t seem to be an option. When I asked about a table inside I and the couple that arrived after us were told that it wasn’t setup yet and that the weather was nice so we’ll be sitting outside. I really didn’t mind but I’m not a fan of eating with flies around. I would’ve preferred to eat inside but the weather was nice. Overall a very pleasant experience.
My Birthday husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the hot stone steak and roasted potatoes with mushrooms on the side. So filling, I brought half home. I would give full 5's except the table with 4 men who were talking loudly and saying incredibly rude things about women and killing. Just becausr a patron pays, does not give them the right to speak in public so disrespectfully that other diners are appalled. We were not the only ones, two other tables of four heard them as well. I'm sure when we return some day, that will not be the case. With the leftovers, elevated to cowgirl skillet with some swwet onion, bbq sauce, cheddar, green onion and sour cream. Divine. I have been coming here for 10+ years. The owner, the staff, the food, the drinks, the vibes are A+++. The steak on the rock is an unbelievable experience. The rest of the menu is also phenomenal… had the octopus tonight and let me tell you, chefs kiss!! Sarah and Nick made the experience extra tonight. Thank you!!! 🙏🏼
We had a reservation for 8 people, and we sat on the patio, which was great. The service was good, friendly staff. The food was delicious, it just took a bit long to arrive. Overall, it's a great place.
An amazing find in Wasaga, quaint, great service and the steak was some of the best we’ve ever had. Sarah was fantastic, making sure we were always taken care of. The steak/all food comes on a local granite hot plate so stays hot throughout. Food will continue to cook to ask for a side plate if you want your steak to stay medium rare. Cant wait to go back.
Barcelos Restaurant in Wasaga is a true gem! I've been coming here for years, and it never disappoints. The steak rock dinner is a personal favorite – always cooked to perfection and a unique dining experience. Whether I'm eating in or grabbing takeout, the food is consistently excellent. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. A classic spot in Wasaga that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great meal.
My wife, son and I had a late mother's day and early father's day supper at Barcelos. We had the special Portuguese Paella with saffron rice, chicken, mussels, shrimp, chorizo and a special adder of lobster. It was amazing. Our server Sarah was great and we talked with the owner Nelson was a long time. It was a great time.
100% exceeded my expectations. I wish I could leave 6 stars. My husband and I enjoyed an order of Bruschetta and Cod Cakes as our appetizers. Delicious! He favoured the Cod Cakes as they were fresh and well seasoned. Personally, I was very impressed by the bruschetta and pleased they had no problem melting mozzarella cheese on it for me. For our main course we shared Paella for two (Seafood and Rice). To. Die. For. I’d never had anything like it before. Definitely my new favourite dish. Chef Nelson took the time to come out and meet with us after our meal. He ensured we were pleased with our experience and we were happy to deliver nothing but positive feedback. We will return to visit him and his team in the near future. The atmosphere is clean, fun and comfortable. It’s hard to hit all three of those categories simultaneously however, Barcelos takes it above and beyond. By keeping friendly, personable and helpful staff, they ensure you feel welcome and valued as a customer.
I had food catered by Barcelo s for a very special family occasion. From the first phone call I was impressed! Nelson ( I believe he is the owner ) was friendly and happy to help. I was unfamiliar with his menu options and he took the time to make suggestions and describe the dish. It was very obvious he takes great pride in his food offerings and I was excited to try them!! The food was ready for pick up at the exact time we agreed upon and was phenomenal . I ordered the seafood paella with lobster and crab and the piri piri chicken with rice and roasted potatoes. Lovely restaurant to visit, we went on Sunday for the prime rib Special, from the momente we walked in we were welcomed, the food was tasty, we had the chorizo appetizer with sliced bread, all the food was well flavoured, the portions of food were large, the red wine by the glass was delicious. the service friendly, I ll be going back.
I was disappointed in the service . Our server came over and took our drink orders, then offered us some water, which they only serve in a bottle. I accepted only to find out that theres an $8.00 charge for a large bottle of mineral water. When we received the bruschetta bread that we ordered , I had to get the servers attention to get untensils, side plates, and napkins. We both ordered med rare steaks on an iron grill board, but mine was more too well done before I was finished eating The presentation was unique and nice. Steaks were sizzling hot If youre paying with a credit card machine, the lowest options for a tip were 18 percent .

Food was amazing, although there was several other issues that came up. To begin, upon calling for a reservation I was asked for my credit card info which is extremely unprofessional, if a deposit is necessary that should be discussed. Credit card information should never be requested with no reasoning. Second, the chicken came out extremely pink, which is a concern for health and safety. Lastly, after paying for my bill, i was informed there would be a $60 fee for us needing two tables together because of a party of 6, regardless of the party being the only one in the dining room. This should be disclosed within booking as well as included with the bill not a last minute add on. The food atmosphere is great, although these incidents will create hesitation in coming back.

We went to Barcelos to celebrate my wife s birthday. We were treated like royalty. My wife had the steak on a rock and it was exceptional. I had the lamb curry. Best curry meal I had in my life. Our server was fantastic. The owner came to personally wish my wife a happy birthday. All in all a great experience. I highly recommend Barcelos

Went on a Wednesday night for the steak&wine deal. Everything was excellent, hospitality and service were immaculate and the vibes were unmatched. Singer did a wonderful job and set a lovely mood for our meal. Custard tarts have been raved about since we left! Definitely worth checking out if you re in town! Will absolutely be back!
My siblings and I purchased a $300 gift card for my parents 50th wedding anniversary in February. They chose to save the gift card for my moms 75th birthday this summer. It was their 3rd time at Barcelos and they were unfortunately VERY disappointed with their experience. They were strongly encouraged to eat outside (as the inside dining area was not set up) even though it was noisy, windy and cool. Food and service was mediocre at best and they were not allowed to use the gift card for their tip. My dad was also not allowed to use his credit card and had to walk to the car to get cash. For the cost of the meal, the ambiance was unsophisticated felt very ordinary. Roadhouse environment and food with gourmet prices. Based on their experience, they would not recommend to anyone as a place to celebrate a milestone event - so disappointed!
Such an amazing place just like being back home in Portugal but better..... OMG. You will definitely want to go back again an again. Make reservations one week prior. A must .

Pros: cool environment, nice variety on menu, the hostess and our server were very welcoming, friendly and made sure to check in with us. Cons: we ordered caesar salad, seafood bisque and muscles in white wine sauce at 6:07pm. The salad arrived around 6:15pm, however the bisque and muscles took long as they arrived at 6:58pm. Unfortunately the high price point didnt quite match the taste. Bottled water (they dont offer tap) is $8. Caesar salad (which you need to prepare yourself as it arrives as one bundle of leaves that you need to break apart then mix into the dressing) $22. The muscles were small in size, salty and oily. Lastly, quantity could have been better w/ the price.

Everything is amazing only thing I was disappointed is when we were given the list of specials but no pricing and we ordered the special it was a steak and we didnt know it was $160 for the 8oz steak. Very fatty steak and didnt think was worth that price but would have liked to have known the price. Disclosure is so important. We come here a couple times of year and I think because of this we wont be going back. The food doesnt match the price.
If I could give them 10 stars I would. Taylor was our server and she was super helpful and pleasant. The hostess was incredibly understanding and wonderful. The food! The lobster ravioli was the perfect portion and so delicious. The steak comes on a marble slab so I would suggest ordering a bit more rare than usual as it continues to cook when served. The chicken piri piri was also delicious, the sauce was perfect. All in all, a wonderful gem in Wasaga and we will be back if were ever in town.
Today was my birthday. Being new to Wasaga Beach I asked locals where to get a nice dinner. I was told to try Barcelos as the couple had been a few years back and had enjoyed their meal. So we tried tonight. After receiving the menu and noting the high prices we expected the food to be worthy of the cost. My husband ordered the lamb curry and although the meat was very tough he did not complain, I ordered the lobster ravioli and was unable to eat it. The cocktail shrimp was so tough that my husband and I both thought they must have come from a can, the ravioli was tough and sides were curled like it had been sitting for a while and warmed up, no taste of lobster anywhere. I explained to the waitstaff that I could not eat it and gave her the reasons. She was very apologetic and took the meal away. Then the bill came and to my surprise the $45 ravioli meal was still on it, I smiled and said you forgot to take the meal off the bill to which I got The owner will not authorize me to remove the cost of the meal off the bill and although you did not eat it, you must still pay for it. After declaring I would not pay for a meal I did not like or eat, finally the owner showed up. At first smiling and welcoming but then...when I refused to pay, or pay for half (why would I?), he dragged his poor chef out of the kitchen to ask if the supplier had changed or if the cook had done my meal wrong?! Obviously the poor chef stated he had cooked it properly and supplier had not changed and I looked on as the owner got louder and louder. I simply stated isnt the customer supposed to be always right? If I say it tasted bad, then it tasted bad. I was not lying, it was mine and my husbands opinion and we are the customer! As the owner continued to rant and raise his voice over the bar at me I continued to state I was not paying for the meal. He said they could send one home with me. Why would I like it anymore at home than I did in the restaurant I said? He shouted 99 percent of the people who order it love it, YOU are the 1 percent. So what if I am the 1 percent, I did not like the meal my husband explained to him. 10 minutes later after raising his voice and treating first time customers (and last) so appallingly, he just walked away without a word. The most unprofessional man I have met in the food industry, let alone an owner! I have been a cancer/palliative nurse working with the public for 16 years and I have never had someone speak to me like this man did. What happened to respect. I clearly stated I was wearing a heart monitor and was to avoid stress but he kept yelling! We put the cash down on the counter minus my meal and walked out! I love to support local businesses but will not return to this place. Unfortunate!

We dined here a month ago with old friends & the food & service was amazing. Everything was fresh - calamari was terrific- and the experience was lovely. Hopefully grilled squid will be back on the menu as it was amazing years ago. UPDATE: just had another lovely dinner here. Food & staff were terrific! Food

My wife and I were in Wasaga Beach later than we expected on business. We decided to find somewhere to eat. We looked at the menu online and thought it looked interesting. We ordered bruschetta and raw oysters to start amd my wife had Lobster Ravioli and I had California Shrimp. Everything was excellent!

A fabulous dinner to start a long weekend! And don t judge a book by its cover. Sarah s service was excellent - attentive at the right times but never hovering. Nelson runs a fabulous kitchen, plating wonderful Portuguese dishes and grilled steaks. Then he came out to the dining room and greeted every patron with a laugh and a good story. This was our first of many dinners at Barcelo s!

Wow just wow this place was amazing! I went here for a friends birthday dinner and the experience was amazing, from the owner coming out to have a conversation with us to the server coming very often to make sure everything is ok when she probably had lots more to do I just want to thank everyone involved and the food was well worth the money you absolutely get what you pay for here

For how expensive and fancy they seem, the food is really sub par. Nice idea to finally have a restaurant like this here, but as everywhere else, it s below good quality. I got the paella recently, it was just one big salty flavour. Not even a spec of herbs and shrimp was overcooked. Also I ordered the steak sandwich once, literally just steak on a bun and the bread was burnt. If you d like a fancy meal don t recommend going here.
Ive been here many many times and have never been disappointed. Nelson the owner genuinely cares about the experience of his guests. Staff are friendly and take good care of you. My husband chose Barcelos to celebrate his 80th birthday. While the food and service were good, our experience was spoiled by the level of noise in the room. A group of about 12 women were at a nearby table. 3 of us had to shout at each other. My husband couldn t hear a thing. Too small for tables of 2 or 4 to share with a group that size

Incredible!! We moved up recently and I can say this food, atmosphere, rivals anything we would get in the city. Cozy little place with an amazing menu served to perfection.
The food the tourists were excellent. The room is small for very noisy. Also it is close to the kitchen and the ventilation in the kitchen was poor and the air in the dining room was heavily scented with the kitchen fumes. For this price point or restaurant there are any more and other locations however Wasaga Beach does not have many choices.
We had family visiting from Newfoundland and wanted to take them out for dinner, and Barcelos was recommended. We all had the Prime Rib absolutely the best we have all had.
I went that place 2 times. First time, it was very good experience and it was 2-3 years ago. We had that memory and we went again this year summer time. It was a disaster frankly speaking. Why? I m paying almost 100$/ person a food and I damn deserve a food that good and uniqueness in there. I could get 2x amount of food in Keg what you provide but it was not. You have to make sure all your customers addressed properly and your atmosphere support family with kids as well or you don t take reservations. I think quality of food went down lot, atmosphere isn t for family with kids and consistency of experience lack a lot. I hope owner address it and make sure people get what they are paying for.

Totally & outrageously overpriced. Dinner of Japanese steak for 2 $375.00; we had only coffee and water. No liquor. One dessert. 18% tip was$60.00. Steak was not even good. Tables are crammed up against customers. No ambiance whatsoever. The worst experience we have had.

I had the best steak l ever had in my life last night.The steaks from Nelson are always top notch but he talked me into a Kobe steak from Japan.Everyone who loves steak should experience this once in your life only 6 hundred cows are shipped out of Japan to the world a year worth every penny Cheers Greg

In early January, 3 of us had a delightful gastronomic evening at Barcelos. All the dishes were superb , especially the A5 Kobe Beef which was tender, flavourful, juicy, marbled and served on a hot lava stone. Every morsel literally melted in your mouth! The lobster ravioli had great big pieces of lobster blanketed in a delicate soft soulful sauce. A glass of port capped off the evening with a lively chat with owner Nelson who is friendly, knowledgeable, well-travelled and a true connoisseur. Saude!
The way I was spoken to was absolutely awful. The brunette waitress had a big attitude problem. The way I was spoken to was disgusting and felt personally attacked. I told the waitress I was displeased with how my food looked. In response she refused to take it back and told me she didn t care if I was displeased with my meal she simple told me I can t take it back and it was still going to be on my bill. For the first time in my life someone s attitude made my food taste bad. After her disgusting attitude she had the audacity to tell us we had to tip her no less than 18%. I have no problem tipping but with poor service why would I want to.
My husband and I went here for a date night.. exceptional food and service. My husband had paella and he said it was fantastic, and gave me one of his mussels.. cooked to perfection! I had the filet mignon medium rare and it came out perfectly on a hot cooking stone!! Terry was our waitress very knowledgeable and friendly.. cant wait to have her serve us again! Nelson the owner was very friendly and hospitable coming around and greeting all his guest!! Highly recommended this place to anybody that wants a lovely little Steakhouse great food atmosphere and staff..we will definitely be returning!

Lucky to have been recommended this gem while in the Wasaga Beach area. This place nails it on the steak. Beef-A-Casa was one of the best I have ever had. Proprieter Nelson gave me a glimpse of the Kobe cut that I hope to cut into on my next visit. Outstanding service in a warm environment. A must if your in the area.

This was the most amazing food and service I have experienced! Nelson and his staff are first rate! So attentive and knowledgeable. I had kobe steak and my husband had the sea bass and both meals were cooked to perfection! We will definitely be returning and you should visit too!

This is not authentic Portuguese food, I am a former employee at one of the best Portuguese restaurants in Toronto and if you are calling this Portuguese cuisine you must be Italian. I have read the reviews and I wish I could give this a negative star at how the owner of the restaurant is representing himself as a owner with how he comments back to his customers. Don t waste your money here, you can buy $4.00 figi water down the street at a gas station vs their $7.00 water. VIVA

Chef Nelson and his staff were incredible! I ve been in the culinary industry for almost a decade and I think that might have been the best paella I ve ever had. SERVICE The service was very fast, and timed extremely well, our plates were cleared after our apps almost immediately upon finishing them, and our entree arrived promptly after. A server who wasn t even our server took a plate away, and you almost never see that. Excellent teamwork. Servers were all very friendly, professional and made our visit amazing. ATMOSPHERE All around a great feel, I hate when a restaurant has in your face, too loud of music playing. The music was mellow, at a perfect volume, you could have a private conversation and not struggle to hear each other. Dining out should be a whole experience, not just the food, and Barcelos nailed it. With a great selection of wine, specialty coffee and spirits, they have something for everyone. FOOD Finally the food! My wife and I had the Cod Cakes, Bruschetta and the Paella for two. The Cod Cake was perfectly textured, and had incredible flavour. You could really tell that they used fresh, high quality fish, and as a deep fried dish, I can promise you their friers are changed and filtered regularly, no bad oily taste at all. Amazing. The bruschetta was a delight, we asked if they could add melted mozzarella in addition to the Parmesan and they did, no problem at all. Some insanely delicious bruschetta. The star of our evening was absolutely the paella however. I could not stop saying WOW with every bite, from the presentation to the flavours, it was amazing. The perfect level of heat, the flavours really exploded on your tongue, this was seriously incredible and you HAVE to try it. The portion was enormous, easily enough for 3 people, I seriously can t tell you enough how amazing this was. With price increases across the board, and food costs through the roof, this is one of the first places I ve been to that has found a way to not only justify these prices, but blow your expectations out of the water. I will absolutely be back, this is now my favourite spot. Apologies for the novel I wrote, but wow! Cheers Barcelos staff, thank you for bringing our trip down to an amazing close!

Nelson (Owner) goes out of his way to make you feel like you are a guest in his home. He is very knowledgeable about the Portuguese cuisine and wines. The inside decor makes the customer feel as if you are in Portugal. Terri, the server, was great. Our group of six all ordered the Piri Piri Chicken and it was outstanding. Beautiful presentation of the Pasteis de Nata, we will definitely be back.

For over 25 years our friend group have been going to Wasaga beach staying at Villa Nova with Tony and Nina. We usually cook our meals but decided to treat our ourselves to a dinner out at Barcelos! It was highly recommended Our table was right infront of the awesome band playing that evening and we couldn t hear each other so what did chef Nelson do with the help of his awesome staff, they moved the table for us!!! We enjoyed bottles of great wine, tried many of the dishes( the Caesar salad is presented beautifully and tasted great) sang along with the band who were terrific and then we called the taxi for over an hour!!!! No luck! Again, what did this owner operator do, Sarah( I think that s her name) packed us in her car and drive us back to our motel(over 7kms away)!!!! Would we go back? Probably, to try the dishes we didn t enjoy but not having a reliable taxi service is an issue! Great job to Barcelos, chef Nelson, Sarah, and the staff! Thank you for a memorable evening!
One of my favorite steakhouses. Amazing Portuguese wine selection.
Me and my husband came here last year 2022 and had a wonderful meal. We rent a cottage every year and decided to come back this year. Muscles were good, although a pretty small portion size for the high price. Ny steak was not seasoned at all and was over cooked. We asked the hostess to speak with the owner about the overcooked steak, she challenged us about the state of our food. The owner then came out and went straight to another table and talked with them for 5 minutes. He finally made his way to our table, we told him the issue and he just walked away without saying anything. A different server came out a few minutes later with a new steak. This time it was severely raw and undercooked, they gave us a smaller portion of the sides. Again the owner did not come over to check on us but instead was talking to another table for over 5 minutes. We just ate the food and got our bill and left. The food quality was way under par, especially for the high prices this place charges. The customer service was even worse then the food. And on top of it all we were constantly swatting flies away from us and our food. I know it s an outdoor patio but that amount of flies was insane, annoying and a bit disturbing. It s unfortunate that my second time here was such a bad experience because now I will not come back. I try to always support small local businesses but when I am not treated with respect and I get bad food with high prices I say no thank you.

Instead of taking a bad review and learning from it l, you told my wife we should eat in New Zealand??? Perhaps I should take a look at opening a resteraunt in Wasaga!

We had driven by numerous of times on our drives as we only live 25 mins from Wasaga. This time our belly s were ready for dinner, so we decided to call the restaurant and they were able to get us in right away (even on a busy night!) and had chicken fingers and fries for our little one. The staff is awesome, they are working so hard to ensure their customers are enjoying themselves. There was live entertainment and the best part the chicken and piri sauce is out of this world, absolutely delicious! We met one of the Owners as he made it a point to go say hello to everyone, which is an amazing touch to any establishment. We really enjoyed ourselves and our dinner and will definitely be back. I read through some of the reviews and it s ridiculous, this is an amazing spot whoever was able to write such criticism doesn t know good cuisine. My only request.. wish they served the classic Portuguese sumol drinks as the sumol laranja is one of my favs however the restaurant definitely deserves a 5++++ star!

We LOVE that place, Nelson is such a wonderful man, he always has a smile on his face, and the food is just excellent! If you are in Wasaga, just go there for lunch or dinner! And if you are not in Wasaga, you should definitely add this place on your list of restaurants to visit.
Website and social media prices are not acurate. 10oz with 3-4 small potatoes, dips, 2 peices of red peppers, 48$. They have a significant hidden menu, including kids, that they dont tell you about till you pay. Cheapest drink is 7$ bottle of water, 16+ for cocktails. 6$ upgrade for fries. Dont order the ceaser salad unless you bring your own bowl to toss it in. Service was meh, first thing our server told us is that she was busy with a bigger more important table. Rarely came back to check on us. Our steaks came out cooked proper but everything on the hot plates over cooked and ended up well done. The hot trays kept the potatoe so hot it burnt my tongue. The flavour was good and i loved the peri piri dip. The Chef sat with several tables to chat. He even helped put an umbrella into a table for some young ladies on the other end of the patio. In the hour we spent there I dont think he went inside once. Honestly, food would have been better with the Chef in the kitchen and service would have been better if they hired another server or two instead of leaving the Chef on the patio. Oh ya, when you make a reservation, they should tell you if they are putting you on the patio... we would have worn sweaters.
Not worth your time OR money. The food was good, decent quality, for most of our party, so I ll give them 1 star for that Worse service I ve ever experienced in a restaurant, to feel like an inconvenience when politely asking a question related to the food We called in advance to make a reservation and confirm that they could accommodate someone in our party with a serious gluten allergy (Celiac Disease) which they assured us they had gluten free options on the menu. Once we sat down and started asking about GF options, the server became very defensive and dismissive of our concerns. There were no gf options noted on the menu so we had to ask. She went on to say Well it s a kitchen, what do you expect? All we were asking was for her to confirm what my friend would be able to eat and talk to the kitchen about using a clean cutting board free of cross contamination. When we asked a different server if the manager was in, she responded I don t know! And walked away. Truly none of the front of house staff seemed to have an ounce of care for customers. My friend ordered a Caesar salad, omitting the bread and the bacon sausage, while also confirming the dressing ingredients were gf. I ll spare the details but she was extremely sick that night/next day. Did I mention they refused to serve tap water and the bottled still water is $7. Last time I checked we are not in Europe and the quality of the tap water is just fine. Don t waste your time.

This restaurant likely buys their reviews as there is no way they deserve 4.3/5 stars. All critical reviews are responded to with sarcasm/rudeness. The person who replies to them is not humble or smart enough to take any feedback seriously. The service is horrible, waitresses are rude and dont know the menu. They dont take ownership for any issues. This place is a tourist trap. It is overpriced just because of the location in Wasaga beach. The food isnt authentic Portuguese food. The rice is tasteless, fries are over cooked, the chicken tastes like fuel. If you order a medium rare steak, it continues to cook on the stone and it becomes a well done steak before you can even finish it. There are so many other issues with this place. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere. EDIT: I am editing this in response to the owners reply. No you never take criticism seriously because you never think it is warranted. You have a chip on your shoulder and dont care about other peoples opinions. The waitstaff is not experienced. We were told we could substitute our rice or fries for vegetables, and then we were told by someone else 10 minutes later that we cannot swap. Wake up! Its 2023. Do people want to eat double carbs, rice AND fries? NO! Be accommodating. People want to be healthy. The price for the chicken meal is high enough that you could offer swaps for people without hurting your bottom line OR just say there is an upcharge. Big deal. Either way, give the people what they want. If you offer the best chicken youve ever had then you either have no taste buds, or you havent tried real Portuguese chicken places. Try going to Brasas in Mississauga, it is 100 x better. The person who complained about the chicken did have the chicken. We were sharing. Dont think that just because someone eats everything that your food is good. Some people dont believe in food waste. Some people are too shy/non-confrontational to be honest or ask for a different meal. This shouldnt be used as an excuse on your part. If the food gets sent back to the kitchen, it will be thrown out. People make sacrifices and eat subpar food all the time. You should tell people that they will be dining outside when they make reservations so that they could dress accordingly. Perhaps you should also spend some money making your outside area nicer if people are forced to eat there. The prices that are listed on your menu do NOT add up to the ambiance of your restaurant.

We tried to get in to Barcelos a couple weeks ago but it was full to no surprise. We attempted again last minute and were able to get a table. We were a table of 5 and every one of us were blown away by the food and atmosphere. We ordered a bunch of things from the menu (some to share) and everything exceeded expectations. You get what you pay for and there isn t many restaurants in the area with this quality of food. The owner took his time to go table to table and introduce himself which is extremely rare and something we ve never seen before! It was greatly appreciated and we would gladly support a small business with an owner who shows they appreciate your business. Chorizo, Cesar, oysters, mussels, Kobe beef, surf and turf, cod and ravioli all 12/10. We have no negative criticism, will be back soon! Thank you Nelson and staff!
This place is an absolute gem in Wasaga. The food was amazing and so flavourful. The BBQ Chicken and Peri-Piri sauce was delicious. Definitely make a reservation to ensure you get a table. We managed to get a spot without one, but it fills up fast (understandably). Will be back to try more of the menu!
Celebrated our 23rd anniversary at Barcelo s. We had the 18oz steak and the lobster and shrimp ravioli delicious! Loved that the owner Nelson stopped at each table to greet the guests. Fabulous service from our server, (sorry, don t know her name; blond/glasses). and Kate, the fabulous, young singer, was amazing! Highly recommend Barcelos.
Edit: no edit, still amazing!! Took two cooks with us (son & brother-in-law), both were highly impressed. Our wine tonight was recommended by our server, an extremely rare Portugese Merlot, and very good, a bit more body than typical for a merlot, and went amazingly with dinner! Wow! Great little place. Highly recommended by my husbands coworkers, and they werent wrong. Nelson & his staff are fantastic. Our server (and maybe the only server??!!) was superb. No order mixups, attentive but not annoying, made good suggestions. And the food: oh my! The peri-piri sauce was very flavorful, though a bit too hot for me, but Nelson assured me he can tone it down, so Ill definitely try some again. My meal was done to perfection, but Im going to need a bigger appetite. Thanks for a wonderful meal & evening!!
Decided to come here on a valentines weekend and had the most amazing experience I ve had at a restaurant. The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful, all the staff were very kind and polite. My girlfriend had the gnocchi which we agreed was fantastic. I got the Kobe beef steak which was absolutely worth every cent, it was probably the best meal I ve had in my life. If you re near wasaga and need somewhere to eat, I 110% recommend Barcelos. Thank you so much for the amazing experience!
It wasnt a great experience here. Even though the prices were extremely high, it was my birthday and so we bit the bullet. Besides, we regularly live outside Canada from a place that does not serve much steak. So we went forward and ordered a couple of steaks. The steaks come out on a sizzling hot slab of steel, so they keep on cooking throughout the meal. My medium rare steak started off medium and ended the night well done. My wife ordered blue and hers came out medium rare and ended medium well. The potatoes werent very tasty either and were undercooked. It was a very odd experience for a steakhouse. My constructive criticism would be to forego the sizzling hot plate for the steak so that it doesnt keep cooking, and to be sure your steaks are leaving the kitchen at the right level of doneness. The steaks did not seem to be seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic ( the three basic seasonings for any steak). As a result, were quite bland tasting. ( they put fresh ground pepper on at the table, but it didnt taste like it was cooked with pepper) We did not say anything about the food while we were there for a couple of reasons. 1. because the food takes a while to come out. We didnt want to wait any longer for them to make more steaks, and 2. we had no confidence that they would be any better than the ones we already had. There didnt seem to be any reason to waste time and food on a couple more substandard steaks. The atmosphere inside was lovely. The waitstaff did decently well for being the only waitress in a full restaurant. The owner/ manager seemed very attentive of the clientele. The biggest issue was the kitchen and the philosophy of continuous cooking of the steaks on a hot iron. If they could figure out those two areas, it would be a nice place to dine in an area with few of those.

Oh man, you wont believe how awesome our Christmas party was at that place! Nelson totally went above and beyond to make sure we had a blast. And let me tell you, Terri and the rest of the staff were absolute superstars. They didnt miss a beat and took care of every little detail. The modern consumer believes to have a tender steak it needs to be served rare. On the beef farm I grew up on had the skill set for more well done and mouth wateringly tender and tasty steaks The chef here knows how to cook steak like it was cooked on the farm some 60+ years ago What a treat! Came from Montreal for the weekend and saw the good reviews and they were not lying! Very nice little dining room, kind and knowledgeable staff, and everything we ordered was 10/10! The steak being served on the hot stone plate and still sizzling and kept hot throughout the whole meal was a first for me, definitely a must-go if you re in town!
Steak and seafood prepared in a Portuguese style. Truly a gem in Wasaga Beach! Service was professional, quick and attentive. The added touch of having the owner walking around and checking in with every table made us love this place more. We will definitely return. Update: still 5 stars for the reasons above. We ate inside this time; the right amount of space, comfortable chairs and same great service and food.
I called Barcelos for take-out. Not only were the staff super friendly on the phone, they also accommodated my specific request for the Grand Seafood Paella for two. It was absolutely delicious and ready right on time for our pick-up!! Will definitely be ordering from Barcelos again next time Im in the area :)

Excellent customer service. Owner and Dan are amazing at their jobs. Theyre very welcoming and friendly. Food quality is more than fine! Steaks cooked to perfection. Garlic bread with really garlic. Bruschetta was amazing. The tiger shrimps were nice and fresh. Definitely going to try dining in once restrictions are lifted.

This place has good food but a little overpriced. I was asked to make my pasta with rosé sauce instead and they charged 7$ just for switching my sauce. The waitress was a bit on the edge, maybe she was having a bad day or something.

First time here. Chicken was delicious. Main complaint was the outrageous price for the salad. At $15 dollars ,this is exploiting the public. I had similar salads at tourist locations such as Port Dover and Niagara Falls. Price there is around $5 dollars. Please have a conscience about your pricing. If I eat here twice a week, I would need to win the lottery.
Got the ribeye. It was delicious. But yeah, prepare yourself, if youre looking at the images of the menu on here from last year, it seems prices have gone up substantially...

A very steep rise in price. Much more than most places. We dine out a lot and accept that prices have risen since Covid but this is unacceptable and no change in quality or service. Ordered Coca Cola and got a can in a glass, beef was grizzly. Will not be back, and it was our go-to place whenever we visited Wasaga Beach.

Food was very good. Shared the surf and turf platter for 2 with an added lobster tail between three of us, and a couple of appetizers: Ceasar salad, and bruschetta. There was more than enough food for us all. With a good bottle of wine and some tarts for dessert and still under 300$. Great value, great food, great service. Will definitely return.

Just came back from a lovely dinner out with a bestie. She has already been there once and had a great experience snd we wanted to sit on the patio. It was an early sitting. Sun still shining. We had a wonderful server, Eva, who was very attentive all evening. Food was wonderful , and yes pricey , but really we re looking forward to a nice night out. The surprise came at the end of the evening when we were paying our bill when the owner yelled across the patio and demanded her to get over here ! We thought perhaps something very urgent was going on but When she approaches him he starts berating her inappropriately about another tables maintenance. How inappropriate. He spoke so horribly and condescending to her. Earlier we had heard commotion and inappropriate language and realized that was coming from him as well. Owner / manager. Please take a look at yourself in the mirror Treat your staff respectfully and you will have more success or find yourself with very unhappy staff and them no staff. Very inappropriate behaviour. We will not be back because this behaviour is a deal breaker !!!
Poor service and poor communication from start to finish. Our experience was quite sad and disappointing. The server as well as the entire staff seemed very flustered and unorganized throughout the entire dinner. My advice is to not take on more than you can handle. Be sure your staff is equipped with the proper skill set to manage a larger group and you should have appropriate glassware for your guests when they order things such as wine. Wine should not be served in a cup. Embarrassing. Bachelorettes Beware.

We came to eat here after a long day at the beach and they were so unwelcoming and rude! They weren t equipped for a a group of ten with kids. Told us to make a reservation like everybody else! Then they told us to move our cars so the other patrons can park when they get there! We came down the street to the Greek place that s been around forever Georgian Circle and they happily welcomed us with tons of room! The owner even came out to say hi and chat with us. Food was also amazing! It was a blessing!
The owners were so rude, unwelcoming, and disrespectful to say the least. They had the nerve to ask my family to move our car off their property because they had other tables coming in! Such bad customer service, I wouldn t recommend coming here, this restaurant is not family friendly at all, do not eat here! Georgian circle is up the street and has been around for 50 years, go there much better hospitality and the owner is so sweet and welcoming.

Gastronomy at the rendezvous! The meat aged for 54 days is exceptionally tender. Cod cakes are a perfect balance of cod and potato, and lightly fried. The natas served hot are a delight and this 2016 Alentejo wine is a perfect accompaniment. All accompanied by languorous fado music and served by experienced waitresses whose kindness made our birthday evening truly special. Nelson, the friendly owner, can be proud of this very Portuguese spirit of a job well done!

I ordered for delivery and gave 2 stars because I know a place like this should be enjoyed in person. However, I ordered the paella, steak sandwich, and pulled pork sandwich for a friend and I. chicken was dry and rice was flavourless, and for $40 itd be nice to get more than 2 shrimp. the steak sandwich was the thinnest steak Ive been served at restaurant on a dry baguette. and the only saving grace was the pulled pork, glad I asked for extra bbq sauce because it was desperately needed. going to wrap that up for lunch tomorrow and head to grocery store for a pizza. only heard good things about Barcelos but dont get what the hypes all about.

Do not order that plate. Meat was very chewy, very tough to eat. Supposedly it was a ribeye. Presentation looks great but very tough to eat. Not worth going to and its expensive for what your getting. I dont mean the size of the food but the quality of the food unfortunately. This restaurant made chucks roadhouse look great. Thats how bad and chewy that meat was. Parking: Theres parking in front of the restaurant.
On Wed. Aug. 17, my wife and I took my adult daughter to Barcelos to celebrate her birthday. It was fortunate that we made reservations to dine out on the patio since it was packed for the entire time we were there at 5:30. There were approximately 20 tables. The food was excellent with large portions. I had an 8oz steak dinner, as did my daughter. The steak came just as ordered, my daughter likes hers rare and I like mine medium. My daughter also ordered a lobster tail which she thought was one of the best she has tasted and she is from Victoria B.C. My wife and daughter loved the crab cakes. My wife had lobster ravioli, which she cant seem to stop taking about how good it was and that she will order the same next time. Our server, forgot her name was friendly and efficient. At the end she surprised my daughter with a chocolate lava cake with a candle for her birthday. With the music the restaurant had a sort of Spanish vibe to it. Great food, service, and an overall wonderful experience.

Based off my experience I wouldn t recommend this restaurant. Although I m sure the food is fantastic, the service did not make me feel like a valued guest. We waited 35 minutes to get a drink order and a table seated next to us had their order taken before ours even though they were seated 15 minutes after us. The server made us feel like an inconvenience and made no attempt to take our order. Only after we asked for the bill for our two drinks, the server offered to take our order. This is just based off my experience but the service made us feel invisible.

Not worth it at all!! Arrived and advised that we can only sit outside - this should have been told at the time of booking. As such, we had dinner with many wasps, flies and other bugs. When you pay this much for a meal ($70 dollars each), you do not expect to be sitting on plastic chairs with a plastic patio table. We are all vaccinated and should not be an issue - other restaurants have the option to eat indoors. Food - vegetables and potatoes were cold and I had to send my steak back twice in order to be cooked to the correct temperature. Server agreed that it was not cooked correctly. Prior postings are correct regarding the attitude of the staff. Snippy comments throughout experience including being initially dismissive of the allergies that people have at the table. After all the disappointment with the experience, advised that a 18% tip is required and not allowed to change it since a table of 6 or more requires this amount.
Went yesterday and experienced like many reviews a less than friendly server and a mediocre steak. I understand the prices are the new reality. We were forced to eat outdoors with the wasps, not enjoyable or told that this would be our only option when we made the reservation. On several occasions our server had nasty responses to questions and events. My food was not warm and the steak was burnt. Yes I should have returned it but I did not wish to stay any longer or deal with the nasty server. I predict, like in other reviews, the managements response will be to defend the staff, blame the customer and report me to google as opposed to taking constructive criticism and provide pleasant customer service and a great meal. I have never left a restaurant before feeling so unsatisfied. Go anywhere but here

I truly do understand the restaurant business has suffered through Covid however, I was extremely upset when reviewing our bill to find out we were charged $18.00 for a glass of wine. I just checked the menu and wine is listed at $16.00. Still too high, but why were we charged $18.00? We had two glasses each and the bill was $76.00 just for wine. I dont mind paying a higher price for food if it is quality, but resent it when I know I can by an excellent bottle of wine for $18.00. This to me is just gouging. Was it because we ordered an appetizer and split the main course? The decor leaves much to be desired as well, considering it is supposed to be fine dining. Im sorry to say but I will not be back.
What can you say about Nelson and Company. Absolutely amazing food, absolutely fantastic service. It was a real treat to have Nelson sit at the bar with my daughter and myself and have dinner with us. Nelson suggested the Bison, and he wasnt wrong. Served on a hot plate, and that hot plate stayed hot for about 20 minutes.
Enjoyed our time there this evening.. good food just a little too expensive for the ambience.
We had great recommendations about this place and so, also big expectations. The place and the food can t be described because it s absolutely amazing! We ordered a charcuterie with seafood absolutely fantastic and me and my husband shared it, For main I ordered the Cod Oporto, Exquisitely, flavourful, such a great aroma, texture my favourite cream cod that I have tried! At first I thought a little bit pricey, but every cent will turn in to a flavourful explosion in your mouth. The Chef, Nelson, visited all tables, extremely friendly and welcoming we ll definitely come back! Long time we didn t have such a great food and service together!!! Congratulations!
Simply delicious! A blast of flavors! I regret that I didnt go there before..Sarah was very welcoming and served us all the delicious food. You can see, smell and taste the love that Chef Nelson put in every single item. Now Im in a mission to try the entire menu I strongly recommend the seafood charcuterie, it surprised me with the amount, flavor even from the olives and sauces, texture of the fish and for my surprise even my wife that doesnt like calamari really liked this one. The lobster ravioli has the perfect size, its creamy and pops in your mouth, oh man my mouth is watering to think about We also tried the camarão afogago, this shrimp is served with a special cut, cooked to the right temperature and delicious sauce. I need to double check but I think it had pieces of lobster on top, Ill update the review once I do.
We had the Kobe Steak. This stuff is like crack. Never had it before and Loved it after the first taste. The mussels as an appetizer was delicious as well. Well be going here again in 3 wks to try their Bison Steaks next. YUM YUM YUM!
Excellent steaks. Very very expensive for Spanish coffee and deserts. Over priced. For a great steak its the place though. Ambiance is outdated. Service was great. The steak meal comes on a cast iron hot plate so everything is hot to the last bite.

Came with friends for the first time and holy Hannah we are so darn full!!! The food was delicious and yes as some reviews have stated it s a bit pricey but do family style get a couple things and an amazing steak and share!! It s what food was meant for to share with friends and family!! Terry(i) was really great and handled all of our questions and big laughs with ease and confidence y adobes would be if you re going to order steak order under your preference if you like medium rare order rare (which is what we did) because the skillet plates stay so hot so you can keep it cooking longer if you like. All in all just a really cool little spot that I am happy we were introduced too.

Walked in the restaurant on Saturday at 5pm. Heard through the door eh whys did Terry leave the door open!!! Walked in and was told we needed to leave where closed. Very rude, no explanation. Was excited for their custard tarts

Surprising find in Wasaga Beach. If not for the large sign on Mosely, one would not likely notice it. A small Portuguese restaurant and Steakhouse. In summer can accommodate many more on large private patio, but inside is warm and cozy. Food was excellent, great quality in good sized portions. Steak served on a hot stone plate with veggies and roast potatoes was both inviting and tasty. Calamari was excellent. Decent wine list. Varied menu to appease most palates. Service was warm, friendly and efficient. Owner was personable and more than welcoming. Felt like you were being served by friends. Prices were high for the area, but is all relative, actually great value for the quality and would command much higher prices if in Toronto. Overall a great meal in a comfortable surrounding, provided by excellent staff. Well worth the money.
Not bad, wont go back! No roll with your dinner and the beal was over cooked!
Our favourite restaurant since arriving in Canada in 2007 for celebration meals ( my wifes birthday 2 days ago being our latest visit) and summer relaxing on the patio with a cold beer or wine and a selection of appetizers. You get what you pay for and with so many chains and take out its nice to have a go to independent, proper restaurant.
Amazing food quality, especially the steaks, prices are not to bad considering the high quality of the food and large portion sizes. Beautiful patio with outdoor bar. owner is a great guy and management is top notch.Good hours and location. Also it is in walking distance to the beach.
Mixed feelings My experience at Barcelos was mediocre. As most reviews warn, the prices here are particularly through the roof I understand inflation and with Covid things have changed, but not as drastically as this place. Service was good, understaffed as most restaurants but still managed to be very attentive. We sat on the patio and it definitely could use some clean up, chairs and tables are plastic and brittle , uncomfortable really. Food was decent- steak was tasty no doubt.
