Princess Cafe / Sidewalk Beer Shop. Independent family run cafe with sandwiches, coffees, and a huge list of craft beer to go! Order on our website, call ahead, or just stop by our window to place an order.
Delicious sandwiches, a solid 5/5. Love the look and comfy feel of the cafe, great place to study as they include a separate area where you can stay for hours. Would love to hear the some light music in the annex but overall a great place to stay and hide out for a few hours!
I like Princess cafe. Its has a really cool events board, and lovely people behind the counter. I hope it's staff gets more diverse, as we lack spaces where the diversity of our city is represented and feels like an achievement, in the art community. The coffee is Planet Bean, which is a more sustainable, but less artisinal brand. It's roasted in Guelph. I still think its too strong, and causes me to have a head rush, and its very astringent. I am grateful the seating is for more than 2 hours and there is a mix of laptop space and chat space. I also really like the cold water refill stand. I wish they could expand to include the theatre lobby, so more people could sit. I've been going to Princess Cinema since I was a teenager. In highschool, we used to see Rocky Horror picture film here on Halloween, and memorize the group responses, throwing toast, and standing in line dressed up at the characters. It's a very unique community, and proud its in Waterloo
Princess. I have loved you so long I’m giving 5 stars. This place was the spot throughout my student years. But after leaving the city for several years and returning, I am sad to see it not as happening as it used to be. I leave this note with love because I want to see this place at its best. The food is still spectacular and I crave those sandwiches on the regular. Space is beautiful. But the rules around co-working space just feel unnecessarily rigid and off putting. All the students are packing places like Midnight Run (amazing spot too) because it’s laptop, wifi, and outlet friendly. It was a disappointment to be paying $25+ for lunch recently and be told I had to move because I had a screen open just to read, while there were only *two* other people in a place with the capacity of I want to say about 30. Frankly, in a student town, rules like this are shooting yourself in the foot. I understand the tables are not small-party friendly, but there’s a solution for that (different seating arrangement) to prevent 1-2 people from taking up the space of 4. Sitting in the Annex should be a choice, not punishment for making the choice of reading on a screen vs a book, writing on a computer vs a notebook. Hoping management sees this and generously reconsiders. When I come to Princess cafe, I want to feel I am at Princess cafe, not in a sad corner across the hall.
Something about this cute cafe caught my eye as I walked by. Ive been to the cinema (same door to enter) but hadn’t enjoyed anything from the cafe. The panini I had was the special of the day - the Ida and dang it was good. There was also a bottle shop with some great craft and local options. Patio outside was clean and comfortable.
Best sandwiches and cutest presentation! 10/10 recommend - the California Veggie is my favourite!
One of my favorite spots in uptown waterloo for a quick bite or light lunch. Ingredients are very good which makes good quality great. Not a fan of their hot drinks (latte didn’t taste as expected). Service could be better, takes quite a while to get one sandwich (hence my rating of 4 stars instead of 5). My favorite is the California veggie sandwich, and their soup and salads are good too. Recommend this.
Cafe attached to an independent theatre and perched on a busy uptown square where one can sit and people watch. Sandwiches are really yum - we tried the California Veggie. They have the theatre and an annex to sit next door. Definitely a Waterloo gem this one! 💎
Great place to enjoy a nice coffee and chat with friends! I have visited this cafe a couple of times and everytime I went, the staffs are very nice and responsive. The environment is very clean, pretty and comfortable. They serve all kinds of coffee and teas (they have many kinds of tea :) Any tea lovers would love this place). Their coffee and tea are so nice, it's worth trying! However, I sometimes like some pastries to go with my coffee/tea but they have limited pastries or none this time I went to the cafe. Overall, they have really good coffee and it is definitely worth trying!
Love it. The coffee, paninis and beer selection are all amazing. Vegetarian options: Lots of options. Food : 5/5 |
the best soup u will ever have
Quaint landmark in uptown Waterloo
Small portions & mediocre food. Service was bad. Staff were rude. Too many rules no laptops in certain areas. Wifi password was annoying. Wont be coming back. Otherwise, the cafe is cute.
Nice cafe with great autumn cookies
Delicious sandwiches and friendly service. Will definitely be back
Seriously, the best soup & sandwiches in town! Lovely, family run place! We are so lucky to have such a gem in town!
Awesome coffee. Love the cream design on the top
Just had the yamwich today. So so good- some vegetarian options but unfortunately no vegan options.
Wonderful food and service at a great price
Ordered the featured panini with the matcha latte...awesome, really good !
My fav sandwich is the veggie panini!!
Sandwiches are good but tiny. Id rather just take their recipe off the menu and make it at home and have triple the amount.
This is definitely one of my favourite joints in waterloo for a sandwich. I rave about them to my friends and they agree. definitely recommend the Turkey sandwich on multigrain and the bees knees. I also love their selection of craft beer and the overall vibe of the place!
Best turkey sandwich ever
They use no name matcha and the coffee isn t very good but it s a nice spot
Very personable staff with very delicious sandwiches.
our food took a while to come out but the vibes are amazing there, delicious drinks and food.
Love this Cafe to study!! prices are a little pricey for food but still enjoy it
Great panini and coffee in a casual setting. Great movies at the Princess.
The service was terrible and the servers themselves were not very respectful. Also, their laptop policy does not make sense. If people want to study here then you should have all tables available and make outlets available at all the tables. Refusing seating because someone wants to study doesnt make sense.
Love this place; great coffee, sandwiches, and beer options! Staff are always nice and friendly and they keep it clean, thanks folks!
Great food, warm atmosphere, welcoming staff! Very community oriented small business.
Exactly what you want in a soup and sandwich! So creative, always delicious.
Paninis are to die for
Nice Lil place to enjoy wholesome drinks and food. Great staff too.
If only the prices were as small as the sandwiches
Got some coffees and tea here. Everything was great and the staff were pleasant. Wish they had more tea options but other than that everyone was happy.
I really love this cafe so much, but the staff would be better if they had an approachable personality instead of being inconvenienced by customers
Rude staff, very average coffee. I am skipping this place for next time.
Coffee is average, service is bad. I specially requested for coffee in a mug not a paper cup and still got it in a paper cup. Also there are so many others on the king street that are better.
sidewalk beer shop (which is in princess cafe) sells my favourite beers, all of them, even though i dont drink anymore, which is something im quite sad about. fortunately they have some good non-alcoholic options as well. that aside, i love princess cafe and i met my girlfriend there so i am kind of biased but the big marc sandwich is a delightful postmodern take on the big mac, i also love the curried tuna sandwich and it was the first time i had a tuna sandwich. all of the sandwiches are great. the soups are typically great as well. the pasta salad is also fire but figuratively and not literally as there is no element of spice at play. marc is a sick dude.
Great cafe in a great location uptown. The food is delicious, I especially enjoy getting a panini with a side soup. The place also has a really neat local beer selection that you can t get at LCBO! Overall it has a really fun and friendly vibe. Definitely recommend
One of my all time favourite cafes. The staff are great and the food is always delicious!
theres nothing like a home cooked soup and sandwhich at a family run cafe
cute cafe in uptown waterloo with very friendly staff. my dad didn t like the taste of his coffee though
Expensive but not bad
Great food. Friendly staff
The panini was really good!
Great brunch place and food was delicious!
Portions are quite small. Come here for a hot drink and a snack but dont expect a meal. The staff were extremely accommodating, A+ to them
Great made fresh soups, sandwiches, and salads. My Uptown Waterloo go-to for lunch. Also love having a light dinner there before a movie at The Princess Twin!
I always love coming here for a sandwich and coffee. The quality is always excellent and the atmosphere is comfortable. The staff are super friendly and overall just a nice place to be.
The coffee is consistently high quality, with a rich and smooth flavour. The cafe has a welcoming and cozy atmosphere, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee. The people are knowledgeable and friendly, happy to make recommendations or customize drinks to suit individual preferences. The cafe offers a variety of different coffee drinks, as well as pastries and other light snacks.
There Panini was tasty but the price and conditions of the dinner/movie combo has not been updated on the website. We thought we were to have a dessert but were told that its not included anymore, therefore the value isnt really the same what we expected. We paid $30 for a movie and a panini.
Small n cozy cafe with good vibes, beautiful ambience, great place to hangout for coffee, panini, sandwiches, beer etc
Really nice cafe with some good food
Espresso tasted like drip. No crema, low concentration. Im unsure how they managed that given that they have the requisite equipment for great espresso. The atmosphere looked pretty nice but I took my coffee to go.
Great food and service. The soup of the day was tomato and black bean. It tasted amazing and was washed down with a great cup of coffee. Service was fast and friendly. Its a smaller space with a more cozy feeling. However, there is additional seating in the annex (they ask you to stay in the annex if working on a laptop). The grilled cheese sandwiches in the past have also been fantastic. There is a great drink selection to choose from the refrigerators. Plenty of street parking on King St. or any adjoining roads. Just watch out when crossing the bike lanes to get to the sidewalk.
Stopped in for a quick lunch with a friend and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I had their sandwich of the week, a Rueben, and it was fantastic! It was ultra cheesy and creamy on account of a delicious homemade creamy coleslaw, stuffed with meat and on a delicious crispy multigrain. This was a great sandwich in my opinion. I d love to try some of their others on the menu. They have a great bottle shop serving up a variety of craft beers not available at the LCBO, it is definitely worth checking out for a sandwich, a coffee, and/or a craft beer. My pal had the soup of the day and also thoroughly enjoyed it.
Amazing food and coffee! The people who work here are friendly and great at their job. They also have an impressive selection of canned/bottled local alcoholic drinks.
Super cute place, and the London Fog from here is so good!
Nice cozy café in the heart of Waterloo with real great coffee. Princess cinemas have a special place in my heart and I get happy whenever I get near this café. The menu has a good selection of sandwiches and beverages, but is poor in terms of the dessert variety. Also, I wish there was a sandwich higher in protein in the menu, so I could bring more friends with me here.
Good food. The hot chocolate was on point. We missed the Italian hot chocolate since it was sold out . The California veggie paini was good and easy to eat. Food
Beer and more beer!
I love the Big Marc. Great service and quality of sandwich
The coffee is not the best but I think the grilled cheese I had was really good. The annex part is a great place to study as its really quiet and has a lot of spacious tables, but they are very strict with making you buy something if you re there. If you don t keep your cups they might think you re not a customer and tell you to leave or show them proof of purchase.
Just the way I like it. Casual and authentic. Great coffee and good music. Its a nice spot to chill and read or wait for the movie
Good cappuccino. Mediocre service: messed up sandwich for my kid, hand picked out stuff that I asked not put on the sandwich in the first place and just gave that right back to me.
Princess Café has an unmatched vibe that makes it the perfect place to hangout with friends or even study in peace. Onto what I ordered! Wanting to try something unique, I got the yamwich, with the filling consisting of sweet potatoes, spinach, red onion, basil pesto, and brie. Utterly delicious, the basil pesto paired unexpectedly well with the brie. The sweet potato that the sanwich was named after was incredibly soft and filling. However, despite how delectable it was, I felt it did not justify the $12 cost - I might have preferred a more generous portion based on how much I paid. Well worth its money though was the chai latte - with the spices bringing out the flavors of the tea leaves, the drink was utterly refreshing, particularly on the rainy day that I went! A great place to study with decent sandwiches, hit-or-miss snacks, and a GREAT selection of local beers...but the drinks arent good. Ive had many of their lattes and feature drinks and they were all pretty disappointing, lacking flavour or tasting entirely different than expected (the stroopwafel one comes to mind, which tasted nothing like caramel in the slightest, and actually tasted burnt). But if youre looking for a nice, quiet place to sit or study, its a nice atmosphere.
if you come in here to study, beware of the absolute wrath you will receive . the customer service and satisfaction is beyond 0. The worst i ve ever seen or experienced. Their rules are that you need to purchase something to be able to work in here. Which is totally okay I understand that. After the first time we were told we we re obviously understanding until the second time where we still had our coats on and we re reaching to get our wallets out when an employee made a comment saying order something or leave with a face of absolute disgust. We know the rules and we always buy something it just takes some time when we are freezing from outside. All in all if you want to study or come here be ready for the egotistic hot heads that work here and yes i have seen it from EVERY employee
i have visited princess cafe a few times now to study in the annex. the food and drinks are lovely, but the employees could really use a crash course on customer service. i gave the woman a pass the first time because i understand that everyone has bad days. now it has been three times and the women who work here are always in a bad mood, never treat their customers with kindness, and are borderline rude. i would not recommend this study spot to anyone. as an adult, i dont appreciate being treated like a grade 7 loitering in the local mcdonalds.
I love the vibe of this spot. It is a must stop when in Uptown.
Fun atmosphere, friendly staff. Try the California sandwich. Im a fan of their entertaining mugs (and the coffee is decent too). Good for casual lunch catch-ups with friends.
Anybody who visits Waterloo should come here to check out the Godfather Panini. Super delicious. The London Fog was also good.
Good panini, but very expensive for the small size.
Loved this place
Ordered online 1 hour before noon. Selected a pick up time and when I arrived (after pick up time) the order was not ready. They claimed were super busy and did not see that the order was even placed. Had to wait 15 minutes for order (while in a time crunch because of my lunch break). Once I had already left the cafe I noticed they had also made the order incorrectly.
Great coffee, quirky place will visit again
Princess Cafe is an amazing spot to get a bite to eat! They have a variety of veggie options for those who desire that. This is also a great place to pick up a couple of craft beers from their bottle shop.
Located next to the theatre. Visited this place with my relative and I had a vegetarian cheese yamwich which was awesome with the right amount of cheese. They even had table service(but you have to go to the counter and place an order). The ambience was good.
Went to the Princess Cafe today for the 10th anniversary of our first date there! Same great place: the service, decor, food and cappucinos are awesome! Thanks very much for the great memories of the day that we first met!
Great little spot. Also has the sidewalk beer selection onsite which is the best beer selection around.
This is a wonderful cafe to spend time in. Ive had their California veggie sandwich and it is really good. Also had their hazelnut latte and it is one of the better lattes you will find in Waterloo region. I definitely look forward to spending more time here, especially in the winter ( Im pretty sure its going to be cozy ) .
Great sandwiches and soup!
Nice place and chill people. Sandwiches are unique and a relaxing place to spend the evening.
Great place to catch up with someone or study. The Annex, located opposite of the café, is especially nice to study in because the space is designated for those who need to use laptops, and so it s usually quiet (and it s warm in the colder months!) The staff are really friendly which added to the warmth of the atmosphere. Chai latte wasn t too bad, slightly sweet and very creamy but just lacking in spices (no fault of the café though, I think it s hard to get a really good chai outside of home). I still think it was better than many other cafés in the area.
Really cool spot inside and old movie theatre. Loved the vibe, the craft beers, and the food. Not a big place but it was just right for lunch
Absolutely a gem of a spot - great coffee, great sandwiches, great people.
I love the Princess theatres, so I figured Id try this cafe out for once. I tried the turkey panini, and it was really good. While I did feel that the price wasnt worth it, Id probably come back here in the future to eat after watching a film. Vegetarian options: Theyve got a number of them.
Great tasting latte, and great tasting food. Yam wich in particular was the most delicious tasting thing I ve had in a while. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was great. Amazing selection of beer as well.
Nice cappuccino
The food and place are great but the girl who works there is always in a bad mood and thats a turn-off.
Good coffee and good service
I wont lie, the panini was good - but for 13 dollars it was tiny. I mean, it was really small. We also waited 24 minutes, all three ordered at the same time and food came out with 8 minute intervals for whatever reason. Also, thats only thing they have. Just 7 or 8 paninis. We thought it was a bit overrated. Also, the large coffee is the same size as extra small at tims. Latte was actually a capuccino. Just a heads up Parking: Tough to find a spot
Had the Madame Decembre today and it was delicious! Staff were a great team, always smiling and friendly. Atmosphere is relaxing and service is efficient and quick. I always come back! :)
Always delicious sandwiches. My favorite is the turkey on whole grain, but you cant go wrong with the chipwhich or the big marc Food
Best sandwiches and beer selection youll find anywhere!
Just had takeout lunch. Their paninis and salads are magical! So tasty, fresh, great value. The staff at the Princess Cafe are incredibly nice, too! Going back soon!
I will die for their sandwiches.
The best vegetarian sandwiches that I have ever had!
Omg I love this place so much!!! Everytime i m in uptown I have to stop in for a latte and a panini. Would highly recommend the Big Marc and whatever the soup of the day is! The food is delicious and so fresh and the lattes are excellent. Even better than all of this is the impeccable craft beer selection: My partner and I always find something new and exciting to bring home and try or a bottle to gift someone. Their merch is great too! I could go on and on
Great place to drop by for a coffee or a quick bite. The cafe has a cozy rustic atmosphere, and there is extra seating across from it with a more open and brighter atmosphere.
a good combination: california veggie sandwich and iced chai. such a cosy place to study and get work done. only downside is that there is no wifi ;-;
One of my go-to spots since I ve been in undergrad, and now that I m done school I still go there for a delicious London Fog and for a great sandwich.
Must have been a bad at this cafe the one star says it all.
slay
Turkey sandwich was sublime! Great service, great all around cafe!
Great patio.!!
Yummy coffee and beer. Friendly staff. Patio is perfect for ppl watching
The food here is great. Mark knows a thing or two about sandwiches. The big mark is super tasty. There is also a wide range of tasty beers you probably never heard of that you would enjoy. Could eat here everyday. Big up to big mark.
They have best sandwich in town .
LOVE
Amazing food. Staff are awesome. Great atmosphere!
One of my favourite spots in town. Its a great mom and pop cafe space that is creative and relaxed. To me this is one of those spots that is the heart of the city - great people, tons of beer offerings, and you cant lose on any of the panini sandwiches.
The princess cafe is an uptown staple! Some of the best sandwiches youll ever experience and a carefully curated beer fridge to match! Get the bees cheese, it wont disapoint!
The cups are small for a large size and the menu has nothing special.
We have eaten here a few times, nice little place in downtown Waterloo. The cafe is connected to a small independent theatre. Coffee and lattes are excellent. Tried most of the sandwiches, all are very good. The Godfather is my favourite. Delicious gluten free options are available. There is a huge selection of locally sourced beers, perfect with a sandwich. Convenient place to have a quick dinner before a movie.
Tried the Bee s Cheese sandwich for the first time! Super delicious!! Will be back!
Lunch here with a movie after is the perfect afternoon
It is a very small cafe with a very nice vibe! Sandwiches are so fresh, coffee and latte taste great. The service is so slow though; 30-40 mins for a sandwich!
The cutest little cafe in Uptown. Decent coffee, amazing snacks and sandwiches, and an interesting selection of craft brews!! Definitely recommend.
Great ambiance, and amazing service! Somehow they manage to have a cafe, a beauty supply store, a cinema, an art gallery, and a beer selection all in once place, and they do it very well. Would highly recommend their paninis (I ve had the bees cheese, the sweet potato, and the California veggie, and all of them are amazing). The cappuccino is decent, but the soup isn t really for me. Do give the garlic toast a try though!
Great place with so many vegetarian options! The menu is about 50/50 vegetarian and meat-based. Well decorated, cute, and well priced. Both meat-based and vegetarian paninis are delightful. Get ready to be embarrassed through, as both of us looked quite foolish trying to keep our ingredients between the bread, lol! Street parking is often limited.
Very sweet hot chocolate and the service was slow!
Always great.
Great soups, sandwiches, and beer selection. Staff is amazing. The addition of Sidewalk Beer Shop has been fantastic. Best beer selection in town to go, and expert knowledge and advice on beers. Many beers you cant get anywhere else, and certainly cant get in the LCBO. Wish I could give it more than 5 stars.
Great sandwiches and coffee with beer from local breweries. If youre ordering a sandwich get the big marc. Its the best and its the signature.
Good food, really good menu
This is my favourite cafe in town. They have amazingly well made drinks, the staff are kind and fun. They handle allergies incredibly well, with both oat and almond non-dairy milks. Their specialty drinks are always the best, I just about always get the special drink for the day and I am always amazed by the deliciousness. I haven t personally had their sandwiches, but everyone I know who has loves them, and their wide variety is wonderful.
Very friendly staff and fantastic drinks! Its one of my go to places and Ive always had a great experience!
Excellent sandwiches and a great unusual choice of beers!!!
Amazing sandwiches and sides! My colleagues and I order from here weekly and Princess Cafe never disappoints!! They are extremely flexible and offer vegan options for me. I personally love their yamwich and latte. The owners are fabulous, we have nothing but good things to say! Also if you get the opportunity to enjoy their cafe in person they have a fabulous location and comfortable ambiance.
I was intrigued because they always seemed busy outside. I tried the Turkey panini and iced Americano. Both were so delicious and very friendly staff. I definitely recommend this Café.
Fantastic sandwiches and drinks. Everything I ever tried here never a disappointment. We especially love their iced tea features and big Marc sandwich are the best. Some negative comments are about prices, but I am happy to pay premium for something this level of quality and freshness. Everything seems so fresh and made from scratch. All their sandwiches are also unique flavor, creative and look like they put a lot of effort making them. If you passing by this caffe you must give it a try I promise you this place won t disappoint!
Amazing beer selection
Awesome seeing a nice beer shop in the area. Pricey though.
Great food, great service.
The sidewalk bottle shop is always so helpful and great customer service! The recommendations are always spot on, if you go and dont know what to order!
They make great sandwiches! A whole lot of meat and flavours. The bread is extra crispy. Good portion for the price.
This place is adorable and their coffee is good. They also have a selection of about 40 beers that are not available at the LCBO. They have an outdoor patio on king street where you can drink your coffee and once it is open again indoor the cafe is a cute spot to sit.
Great iced drinks
I ve been going to this cafe for years and years. The pasta salad is to die for and they make tons of delicious sandwiches! My go-to is the veggie panini but the chipwich is also amazing. Their drink selection s outstanding, showcasing tons of local breweries you make never have heard of otherwise. The staff is also always friendly and chill. Highly recommend their dinner and a movie deal with the cinema (if it s still available post-COVID?).
Delicious sandwiches and wonderful beer selection.
Super friendly service and tasty sandwiches and iced coffee. Also, sidewalk beershop has an excellent selection of beer and even get Geuze now too!
Delicious, homemade, made fresh sandwiches and literally a thousand different local beers to choose from! Great spot for lunch! Nice little patio but beware of the wasps right now! We had to sit in our car they were so bad! They also made a special sandwich for my daughter who is very picky! Highly recommend and would go back regularly if we lived here!!
Tasty panini style sandwiches. Great for a quick bite before hitting the movie next door.
Great selection of craft brews and friendly service. Cheers!
Get the Big Marc - soooo good!
The Big Marc is incredible!
Big Marc
Adorable
My favourite cinema!
Awesome place. If its busy, its worth it. Try the smokey lager.
Theyve never failed me! Great soups, sandwiches, and coffee. Its a Waterloo essential.
Grand slam sammies for a very reasonable price!
Best paninis in town!
Great food but no wifi so you cant really study there
This place has quickly become my favourite cafe close to me, the place is really cute staff is always so friendly and kind and the coffee is probably some of the best coffee Ive ever had. Will recommend this place to anyone visiting or living in Waterloo.
This is such a gem in Waterloo. The sandwiches are amazing and beer selection is great. Easily my favourite restaurant in Waterloo.
30 min waiting for two sandwiches in a time when is not busy, thats way to long.
