This place has been on my must try list for a while. Its good authentic Chinese noodle soup and it came out super quick. Unfortunately I think Reddit overhyped the place for me. So Im hoping to give it another shot when Im not in a rush.

Noodles are good. Side dishes are tasty. Lamb bbq skewer are fine. Slightly too salty to my taste. Overall the food can be considered above average. A bit pricy for a casual meal though.

Although the noodles taste really good, I feel like this place is now targeting towards the white people and other foreigners rather than keeping its traditional Chinese spice and taste. Please agree with me my fellow Chinese people that the noodles taste has a bit changed over the past 3 years, more favouring white people. If you disagree, please let me know too. I want to hear your opinion.

Between the food and customer service, I highly recommend this place. The food came out very quick and our server was very kind explaining the most popular dishes and answering all our questions. She even gave me a basket to put my belongings in. We tried the Traditional Lanzhou Hand-Pull Beef Noodle with the edamame and the woodear mushroom salad side. 10/10.

The best hand-pulled noodles in Waterloo. Definitely give it a try if you havent yet. The portion size is also fantastic for its price. If you have a big appetite like me, I recommend getting the large bowl combo with everything on it and mini-fries that come along as a side dish.

First time getting food here and it was good right as I walked in I was immediately greeted and my order was taken right away. Food took about 10 minutes to make and the restaurant itself was packed. I got the Traditional Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Beef Noodles. Not only was it fresh but it was delicious and filling too. A good portion of beef (not stingy), thick noodles as well as green onion, cilantro and chili oil on the side. i got the regular size and if they had a smaller one i probably would ve gotten that as it was very filling! 8.5/10

My wife had the Beef Chow Mein and I had the Dan Dan Noodles and it was amazing! You know a restaurant is great when the aromas from the food alone is a unique and mouth-watering experience. We didnt even know the noodles are hand-made. The flavours are deep and delicious. Ill be going back for sure.

A very popular restaurant, and for a good reason. The traditional hand-pulled noodles are delicious, and the quality is consistent. The price is reasonable, and the portion size is decent as well. However, the amount of beef and radish they give is relatively little. I am also not a big fan of the seating as there is no place to put jackets because the stools have essentially no back. Expect a long line and wait time at dinner.

Ordered their noodle, waited for 20 minutes and they said they did not get the order best part: there is no apology and it felt like it was my fault:)

Our first time here and our server was super helpful in educating us on their menu but also helping us get to our choices, which were fantastic! Beef noodle soup and dan dan noodles, both were fantastic and their flexibility with adding heat meant that I enjoyed a spicy meal while my wife and daughter could enjoy a mild dinner. The game changer for me was the chili oil, which was exceptional and was added in copious amounts to my meal. We had bbq chicken wings and potatoes, which we found over-seasoned, but the star of our meals and worthy of 5 stars were the noodle dishes.

Great place in Waterloo for lamian noodles. Great portions, good price, and very good food. I enjoy suggesting and coming here with friends. Seating area for dine in is reasonable. Not that large so sometimes can get quite busy. During peak hours, there are wait times. I ve waited 30 mins before. Will be coming back more.

I grab the famous noodles there and lamb shank. The lamb shank was super cold and with a low quality The noodles were so bland and just too fatty. It was the first and last time I Food : 1/5

Multiple years loyal customer. Change service from 5 to 1. Dine in service is not good as before in recent week. Even for Uber eats order, they missed the sausage that I ordered which never happened before! Please be aware of it and improve accordingly!

Uber delivered the wrong item, but the service of the store manager and clerk was very good. They helped deliver the bad food late at night! First class service! It tastes delicious too!

We had beef tendon soup, beef chow mein, and the beef shank appetizer. All the dishes had really good flavor, the noodles are delicious and kind of freakishly long (not complaining, just describing ), and the beef shank appetizer surprised me because it was cold (on purpose) but actually quite good... I never would have expected it to be cold but I actually think its better that way having tried it. Honestly the best part might have been the soup broth, which is saying a lot because everything was good. Next time Id get the normal beef soup because it turns out Im not a tendon guy, but on the other hand my wife liked the tendon, so its definitely a personal taste thing. The #1 complaint I have is the chopsticks... I prefer wood. But they were totally usable so this is kind of a nitpick. Ill be back.

The noodle is very authentic! That s the favour I love and missed. I ve had lunch and dinner in this restaurant for more than four times! They are always busy! Which means their food is good and I agree! The serving speed is ok. The noodle itself is made with clear bone broth, it s savoury and aromatic. I love this restaurant and their noodles. The bbq is also authentic, it is the traditional north east style. Very rich in flavour. You have to try it yourself to know how good it is.

Its that perfect hole in the wall tiny restaurant with great food and service. Plus its unusual food, as its from a Chinese province not usually represented in restaurants. Theres more to China than just Canton and Szechuan!

I have been here twice first in 2020 then in 2022. It was fantastic in 2020 but the quality has since gone down.

I live in Taiwan (just back visiting). This place is easily top 3 beef noodles Ive ever had. Outstanding.

The hand pulled noodles were made to order, and came almost right after we ordered. The store is small and there s not much seating, but tables are cleaned quickly and we didn t wait too long. The menu for the noodles is smaller, with only beef noodle soups available (no other proteins or vegetarian options). There are more dry/sauce noodles available. There are also side dishes and skewers available. The tofu was spiced and seasoned well.

We had takeout. It was different from the usual Chinese food that you would get - more authentic? We particularly like the fat noodles.

I ordered online a couple of times and finally tried to eat onsite. Noodles always taste great, the wings a little bit salty and nothing special. They serve pretty quick but sometimes the server is not looking at you when you need it. We came around 6pm probably because it was dinner time so everyone was busy. The prices are reasonable, mostly below $20 for noodles with a very good portion. Wings $6 for 4pieces. I will be back for noodles but not wings.

Fire. Better hand pulled noodles than you get anywhere in Toronto. Lovely flavour and perfect noodles. The bbq skewers are great. Sever was great. Music and atmosphere was great too. Overall, a local gem for KW.

The thicker noodles had a great consistency. Nice a chewy with every bite (5 ErZhuZi and 6 QiaoMoLin). The thinner noodles (2 Xi) also had good consistency but run the risk of being too soft comparatively. We ordered the traditional LanZhou hand-pull beef noodle (N1). The beef was quite soft and the broth wasn t too salty and getting it with cilantro is a MUST(however, it would be bland if you don t get it spicy). When they spicy, it s not spicy at all. Even though it does contain chilli oil. We also got the Dan Dan noodle (W2). They appear to use the same noodles for this as the soup based dish. There isn t as much flavour in this dish. The only flavour comes from the pork but proportionally was barely enough for the whole bowl. Still tasty but the soup takes the crown. The atmosphere is quite dark if you re at a table away from the window area. The service was very fast and timely.

One of the better restaurant options near the campus of the University of Waterloo. I would recommend getting their signature hand-pulled noodles (and add extra beef if you like eating more) since it is as close to authentic as I have found in the area. Waiters are nice and willing to split bills even with large groups.

How can I put it this way? The service is very good. The taste of the noodles is okay for Canada, but the gap between it and the real Lanzhou beef noodles is still quite big. I used to work in the Lanzhou branch for several years due to work reasons. Every morning They all eat beef noodles, so the taste is quite different. It s also a feeling to come to the store specifically to eat

Authentic (noodles) and atmosphere. Simple yet satisfying. We have searched the region for authentic Chinese food, and this is probably the best.

Food is top notch, perfectly cooked vegetables, delicious, oily, flavourful. The hand pulled noodles are incredible and the meat tender. Portions are huge. I love this place.

I got the Traditional LanZhou Hand-Pull Beef Noodles with noodle option 4. The noodles were slightly thicker than the base noodle 3, they were very good with a nice slightly chewy texture. The large bowl was huge, I ended up getting two meals out of it. The servers were attentive and kept our water filled. I look forward to going back! We went for lunch close to 11 when the restaurant opened and didnt need to wait for a seat, but by 12 there was a line up out the door waiting to eat.

Beautiful. I had a wonderful experience the deciding factor being how delicious and AFFORDABLE the food was. It was reasonably prized that most other places in Waterloo. Me and my friend absolutely splurged our hearts out on the sides even thought they were 30 minutes to close which they happily complied. I had lot of their barbecue dishes on my second visit and the squid won my heart. Only followed by their dan dan noodles. the servers was quick and eagerly took care of all our requests and question. Will be back again. Will write even more.

The texture of the noodles were spot on. I ve tried most thicknesses now, and they seem to nail every thickness. The grilled squid was also cooked nicely and with a good amount of spices.

A strangely fancy noodle place near the University. I did not expect to go somewhere in plaza shops and see this quality. The noodles were really good, I loved the atmosphere and the staff were super polite.

Great spot, wish the menu was a little larger or more diverse. A pad thai dish seems like a no brainer Update for 2023, still a great spot, although obviously prices are nearly doubled from when I moved here. Still a nice bowl of soup and I still wish they added new noodle dishes. Why no Pad Thai or coconut curry noodles?

Excellent noodles!

A very good hand pulled noodles restaurant in the Waterloo area. Ordered takeout, service definitely could be more friendly. We ordered the vegetable chow mein, mildly spicy. At hindsight, we should have ordered the spicier version. Taste was excellent and the proportion was good too.

I ve been a few times and have tried the beef noodle soup and dan dan noodles. Both are great depending on whether you re craving broth or not. Nothing beats the spice. Even if It s busy it s worth the wait and having it there.

I have eaten in this location before, but it was a dessert place. Current incarnation is a noodle house, and its a nice upgrade. My gang stuck primarily with dumplings and Im so pleased - they were awesome! The place is clean, well lit and warm. Its all hard, flat surfaces so i imagine it gets incredibly noisy when busy, but it was fine for us. The one staff member was friendly and polite and fast - top marks. Ill happily return, especially in cold weather.

After being out of waterloo for over a year, I realize how much I miss Gols. This place is like nothing else.

Overall the portion sizes very good considering the prices. Everything is affordable and the service is very good. The food in my opinion was pretty bland and lacking some flavour but that might be my personal taste buds not cooperating. I found it weird that the meat was served cold but that might just be how it is traditionally served. Overall this place seems very cool and authentic food wise but it did not live up the hype for me.
