Serving authentic Chinese cuisine since 1983
They gave us siu mai not cooked. I realized it after half bite and my friend finish one. Called server to ask, she wasn’t surprise, said sorry and bring it inside. They gave us new one with cut on it to make sure it cooked 🙂 probably don’t know how to make it right. And still charge us for that dish.
Overall very satisfying taste of Cantonese cuisine, very nice service (it's tough to be a service staff, tougher to be one at a Chinese restaurant.), they accommodate our request to have self-bring cake well. Thank you very much!
Outstanding authentic Chinese. Large selection. Long standing restaurant. Highly recommended. Only negative was the cheap plastic tablecloth. Was our first time here but will start coming regularly.
My wife and I were looking for a place to have a good coffee while walking around Blue Mountain's. We found Royal Majsty Espresso Bar Bakery store and we were delighted. We were assisted by Augusto. He was very polite, friendly and helpful. He also showed us that he cares about the customers and the store. The capuchinos that we ordered were simply delicious and well made. We were lucky that while we were drinking our coffees, Augusto brought out a tray with fresh cooked cookies 🍪. We bought two. They were so good that we had to buy more. I son loved them. The store had a great atmosphere and very well maintained. Fully recommended and special thanks to Augusto for his amazing service/attention 😉😎🤟🏻🍁🇨🇦
We saw this place on a Facebook and and thought we would give it a try. They have a lunch special Monday to Friday all you can eat for $15. That's hard to come across nowadays. They do have limited selection, But all the food is fresh and hot. Crispy egg rolls and chicken wings, hot and saucy sweet and sour pork. The chicken vegetables were cooked perfectly and the chicken was moist. I wasn't a fan of the curry noodles, but the regular noodles were good. It was really cold in the dining room, so be prepared to wear your jacket. 7.8/10 .... I definitely recommend! For the price is a great deal.
BEWARE! My entire order was a disappointing rip off! I called the restaurant before I made my order and specifically asked if the Peking Duck was a whole duck, since it costs $50 (plus tax). I was told that it was. Unfortunately, what I received was a few pieces of duck and massive amounts of fat and skin. Take a look at the pictures. I kept looking for a third container where the rest of the duck must be. There was a small container with bean sprouts with a little duck meat mixed in. I have roasted whole ducks before. I repeat, I, myself have personally cooked whole ducks more than a few times. There is no way what I received was an entire duck. This just feels like dishonest service. Furthermore, the other dishes ordered were equally disappointing. About the fried noodles and sliced beef: the beef tasted okay, but we didn't bother eating the noodles as they were oily and the texture was unpleasant. The special fried rice was soggy and disgusting. It looked like white rice with some meat, vegetables and some sort of sauce thrown on top. It was a mess and not tasty at all. Again, look at the picture. Overall, a very, very disappointing experience. Even more so because this was the first time we tried King Tin. I am sorry I didn't try another restaurant instead.
Update from recent visit: Several menu items were not available. Service was good but not great. They made an error on the bill and charged us for 2 items we didn't order, but they corrected this quickly. The food we ate was still great though. We would still return, but will try another spot first. TIP: Try the samosa for a surprise. Not your traditional samosa. Think spring roll samosa. ======== Honestly I think overall this was the best dim sum that we've ever had. Place was clean and the decor was modern and tasteful. Parking is a huge pain so if you can walk here you should. They have a limited number of spots underground. Everything we ordered was seasoned perfectly and the portion sizes were large. The deep fried items were crispy but not heavy with oil. Taro balls were delicate. There was good variety and they also have a menu with pictures that helps with selecting items, and the outline the small medium large item pricing. Pricing is on par but should be considered good considering the portion size and the quality of the food. Tea is included with the meal. Service was fast and staff were plentiful and attentive. Their washroom was modern and nice but average cleanliness. Really looking forward to going back here. I think it's going to be our go-to place for dim sum in Waterloo, and we're sad it's not closer to home. TIP: be prepared to park further away on an adjacent street or better yet walk here if you can. Parking out front is hard to find.
Been coming here for years for dim sum and dinner. Food is consistently good, and usually pretty quick. Employees are friendly, and attentive. Dim sum is order off a list as opposed to pushing the cart but food still comes hot and quickly. Always a satisfying meal
Ordered takeout with my boyfriend after we both worked all day, and the food was ready on time and was hot, but as I was eating the sweet and sour pork something sharp pinched my tongue. There was a piece of steel wool in my sweet and sour pork. I m lucky I didnt get a cut from it, and it was a rather large piece. I called the store and the woman didnt really seem to understand the magnitude of how messed up that is, and I understand accidents happen, but it was literally inside of my piece of chicken. I dont really understand how that happens. Anyways, I complained through uber eats, and hopefully I get my money back.
Tastes good, suitable for Chinese people, and the price is cheap
Great food. Buffet was very good. Service very good. Thanks
The new King-tin restaurant is a clean and tidy place and food is okay. Not as good as some Cantonese restaurants in Kitchener in my opinion but I like it anyways since they are pretty generous about their food portions. Free soup and Cantonese style dessert (usually red mean soup or Tofu jelly im not sure about the exact name) during dinner time. Staff are helpful and thoughtful. Speaking of service, definitely way better than lots of Chinese restaurant esp those in the university plaza.
Friendly staff but only small variety of foods different from the chinese restaurants Ive been at before. They gave my kid chop sticks to take home though so thats a plus Food
Dim sum was sub par. Frozen dim sum is better.
Went for the Buffet. Although the food was a oily, especially yje chicken wings and chicken (?) spring-roll (not a lot but not little, either), it was pretty good. Save the yellow-egg noodles, all noodle dishes were superb. The beef, and chicken stir-fry was good, and while the soup was pretty loaded, it was a bit under-whelming. Unfortunately , I missed tasting the dumplings.
Best dim sum in Waterloo.
July 25/24 had the buffet lunch. I almost swallowed a 3 inch hard wire in meal. Chipped my tooth. Showed the wire to the staff and an old Chinese lady came out from the kitchen and stated it is was from cleaning. I asked for the wire back but refused to return it to me. On top of that they had the gull to charge me for the meal. No charge for the Wire.
If you care about your health, dont go here
My favourite Chinese restaurant in Waterloo. Have gone here since I was 5 years old and the owners are now old friends. Food is definitely much better when the owner is in for the day cooking the food.
Great lunch buffet.
Delicious and fast, prices are really good too! Great service!
Beware! The crew would watch you while punching on the terminal machine to see if you gave in a tip. They would demand it, too! Rude and worst service. They speak mandarin infront of you and just assuming you don t understand what they are saying. Once, the old lady refilling the trays said (in mandarin) that here goes these people again. I feel bad for our vietnamese friend who we invited for lunch. We like the food until that Lady at the cashier embarrassed him for not tipping, first of all, a tip is something willingly given if your service was even nice. And second, it was a self service buffet. And third, the crew were just (AGAIN) rude and disrespectful. As a chinese individual, the overall food was almost not okay. This is fake dimsum. Their buffet food have Too much oil on them. It makes you sleepy afterwards too. They must have put too much MSG on every dish. If there was Zero, that would have been my rate.
Some of the worst dim sum Ive had in my life, didnt even know it could be that bad
Very below average dim sum, felt like they have been made for a really long time.
Said buffet. No buffet once we got there. Ordered on our slip waited 20 minutes was never attended to.
Nice place, great food and polite and courteous staff! The beef preparation which is a part of the buffet is out of this world! :) Food
It was bad experience for us...some dishes contained rotten ingredients and tasted sour. Also flies were flying around the tables.
Buffet Food: Mediocre- Subpar Service: Excellent Price: Excellent Cleanliness: Good (table sticky) Parking: Limited street parking Went for the lunch buffet which is $15 plus taxes. Its a decent selection of standard asian dishes like 3 types of noodles (chow mein, Singapore & flat rice), rice dishes including lotus leaf wrapped sticky rice, stir fried vegetables, eggplant, egg rolls, tofu etc. They do have a couple dim sum menu items as well: siu Mai and har gow. Sadly the har gow tasted very stale. Shrimp was definitely not fresh (sour taste) and the rice wrapper was very mushy and falling apart. Did not try siu Mai. The highlight of the menu was the sweet and sour pork. Wish food tasted fresher but overall, what can you expect for $15. Service was very friendly. Likely would not go again unfortunately.
Last visit was a bad experience food was old and badly smells
They had great Dim Sum leftovers.
Literal definition of trash
Inconsistent quality. I tried going twice, first time on a busy weekend and the food was just ok. But the second time on a weekday evening, the food tasted stale and poor. Their menu looks too large to keep everything fresh.
Lunch buffet doesnt start until lunch is over apparently.
Everything really bad and gross
The food is great and the prices are good. My hubby and I go to their buffet about once a month or will order delivery. Their dim sum is great if you want to try new dishes in small servings (that can get pricier). We have been going to that restaurant about 30 years and will continue going! Parking can be difficult, particularly in the winter.
One of the best young chinese restaurants in Waterloo. Very few people here on the weekdays. Food is great.
My second time here and they werent open on the stated time. Looking past that, the best things about the place is the all you can eat lunch buffet. Bang for buck and costed e less than 20 bucks for everything. A soup, five stir fries, two noodles, one rice noodle, couple different chickens, fried rice, sui mai. Over all value for money.
Ive been coming here for years and Ive never had a single complaint. The food has always been delicious and great value. The staff have been accommodating and wonderful as well. Weve always felt welcomed like we were part of the family. Definitely my favourite place in the region for Chinese food. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to grab a bite. 5 stars
Good
Overall, I had a good experience. The sweet and sour beef and the squid tasted amazing, and it was worth the money. Maybe the soup was a little too spicy, but overall I enjoyed my stay there.
I had the lunch buffet. It was a great amount of food for a reasonable price at $15. There was about 10 options on the buffet and everything I had tasted good. Good place to fill up as a student.
Most authentic and delicious Cantonese cuisine in KW, period. Its a family-owned restaurant that has been around for decades, serving large portions and always tasty food. I always visit King Tin whenever Im in KW. They also have dimsum on weekends for lunch.
Food is ok but worst service ever in any Asian restaurant I had. I wish i Could give 0 starts to service. Staff is rude and not clear at all in communication. They made me wait 20 mins saying it will take 2 mins. Overall horrible customer service and horrible experience. I recommend many other Asian restaurants in waterloo but not King Tin if you dont want ti waste your time and experience horrible service. Very very very disappointed.
Been here twice and they had closed the entire restaurant without notice for a party the reserved the entire place.
Good was good but used to be better. Dim sum items were good. Hot and sour was far more spicy than I was expecting (they used to have the best I ve ever tried) restaurant was empty on a Friday night for takeaway. Not sure I d give it another go.
Hot sauce was very salty
My family and I have been going to King Tin for over 20 years, its a special place to us. Unfortunately our latest experience was less than ideal. We were seated. Two other tables were already there and already had their food. We sat for about 15 minutes without any service, and we had to flag someone down in order to get a menu. They proceeded to service the other two tables while ignoring/forgetting about us for an additional 20 minutes. Still no tea, no serveware for one of us. They offered 10% off after I complained, but they still didnt even bring us the rice we ordered. Honestly not a great day.
Very bad service!
not bad, will come back
As someone whos been going here since 2018, I have to say its one of the better Chinese places in the KW area. They serve some very authentic Chinese cuisine, and its done right. Their main dishes always look attractive, you can clearly tell the ingredients they use are fresh. Theyre very generous on portions too, I would describe the serving size as massive actually. One dish can absolutely fill an empty stomach. And best of all, their dishes have a strong rich wok-fired taste which I consider to be the Holy Grail for premium Chinese cuisine; many Chinese places lack this characteristic sadly. However before ordering, there are a few things and suggestions I have for you. First of all, skip the lunch buffet, and opt to dine-in instead of delivery. Second of all, you generally cannot go wrong with the more traditional or tried-and-true dishes (e.g. Beef & Chinese Broccoli, Kung Pao Chicken, etc). Third of all, their fried noodle dishes can sometimes be a bit too oily. Fourth of all, their dim sum is alright but the fried stuff are also very oily and use somewhat unconventional fillings. And lastly, just dont order anything not fresh (e.g. frozen duck, buffet menu). I have barely explored most of their dishes, but so far Beef & Chinese Broccoli is my top favorite. Its an easy recommendation. I also love their Sweet and Sour Pork, this ones especially full of that wok-fired flame taste. Their Pineapple Fried Rice, which is actually served in a pineapple (!!!), is pretty decent too, though somewhat on the plain side. One of my previous favorites from King Tin was their Cantonese Chow Mein, but beware it has the potential to get quite oily, and because of the variety of proteins and veggies some ingredients are not always that fresh. Stil worth trying though. One dish I would personally steer away from is their Eggplant with Garlic and Chillies. The flavor just didnt seem quite right, a bit too saturated in garlicky tones. Honestly, there are so much more dishes this restaurant offers, I would love to take the time to explore them all. Folks, this is definitely a place worth trying. I would highly recommend dining here and trying out those dishes Ive mentioned. As long as you order something fresh from the menu, your taste buds are gonna be in for a treat!
Lunch buffet is killer! 14.75 for nice selection. Its very good price for the food you get
Lukewarm dumplings and spring rolls with off putting uncooked filling. There s much better dim sum in KW
Im from Hong Kong and have been eating dim sum since I was a child. This dim sum wrap is so miserable that I cant bear to bet on it, siu mai...a pile of tasteless snow pork minced wrapped in thick yellow skin Rice roll...thick vermicelli with two dried shrimps (it was cold on the table for the first time and asked to be reheated) Spring rolls... oily and stuffed with minced pork, the skin is crispy Shrimp dumplings...I think they all have the same ingredients as shrimp intestines Barbecued pork bun...a skin with a pile of loose powder, and a pile of Benwu style barbecued pork inside Spare ribs...okay
In general I liked it! I tried the sweet and sour pork: crunchy texture, nice amount of veggies and pineapple:) Also eat the fried rice very tasty!!! There are many options to choose from! They received cards, cash. The place is very spacious and well organized! Friendly staff. Definitely recommended.
Every time i go there, its always a 50/50 that they get my food right, and when i tried to tell the staff one time, they told me thats what i ordered and that i should eat it even though it wasnt what i ordered, went in today and get my usual which is flat rice noodle with beef, they got the order wrong, the noodles were soaked in a bowl of sauce, it was so much, i didnt even bother saying anything because they would say the same thing to me as they did last time, definitely wont be coming here anymore.
Great food! As long as you can overlook some of the other awkward details. The individual soup bowls were small enough that the soup spoons barely fit in them. The balls were shallow and kind of hard to get the spoon into. In addition to the delicious dim sum, we ordered an entree. Instead of a serving spoon, it came with a fork. Not a serving fork. A regular fork. It was very tricky to serve the Chinese broccoli and seafood with just a regular fork. But if youre prepared to overlook some less than perfect service and utensils, then you are in for some delicious food.
General tso chicken I had got was drenched in sauce with little to none chicken. Basically deep friend batter & sauce. Rice was dry & hard.
Small buffet [all you can eat] with all the good things . Reasonable price
Haven t been there for more than 20 years, thought will give it a try again. Ordered take out, very disappointed to say all the dishes I ordered were either undercooked or with a weird aftertaste. Even for a simple dish such as steamed chicken was not cooked properly. I must say, last night s dinner confirmed why I had not returned for over 20 years. The restaurant looks very authentic from the outside and inside, staff who works there were super nice but just need a better cook!! Needless to say, will not return unless they hire a better chef.
Fantastic! I ve been looking for a good Chinese spot since moving from the GTA over a decade ago. I ve finally found it. The dim sum is fresh and tasty, the portions off the main menu are huge and they don t skimp on the proteins! Bonus: the staff are friendly and the restaurant is clean!
Our go to place for Dim Sum and Chinese food for years. Weve never had any issues and anytime anything has been subpar, they make an effort to make it right. They definitely have our favourite dishes that keep us going back for more.
Bad. Spare yourself the torture. Roasted duck was served cold, Chicken was incredibly dry, and they must have forgotten to put sauce or salt. Incredibly dry. Fish was also unusually bland and lacked salt. Lamb was only spiced with 13 spices and nothing else. Crab was adequate. Service was abominable slow, forgot things. Chopsticks and dishes were not clean: greasy, even in comparison to average chinese restaurants. Chairs also falling apart.
Went here a couple times already and enjoyed the food alot. Portions are generous and taste is great!
I can taste their food is very stale and oily. Quality does not matter quantity is their mind set. I have never eaten that stale taste of dim sum. Yes I am a foodie and go to Rol San in Toronto for dim sum often. I stopped going this place as I feel that it s wasting money. Especially after a Chinese lady complained me asking for disposable chopsticks. She pretty much yelled at me saying they were costing them 25 cents. I think they lost the touch of human decency for them to run business.
Not the best dim sum Ive had but the restaurant is nice inside. Also they have a huge menu. You want sharkfin soup ? This is where youre gonna get it.
Crunchy noodles. Very dissatisfied.
They have their dim sum menu for take out now! As delicious as I remembered.
The food was amazing. They have a menu with pictures on it to give you an idea of what you are ordering and order sheet to check off what you want. Love that they have dine-in service and great staff service.
Food is of good quality, at great value and the workers are attentive and polite
Curry squid was very good, but we had ordered the curry octopus. Sticky rice was very large portion. Rice noodle rolls had unusual textures. Har gow was fine. BBQ pork and custard buns were a little less than average.
Most of the dishes were from frozen food and heat directly. Tasted so bad.
Cant go wrong for a buffet this day and age for $15.50. That has huge Siu Mai that slaps. If you want something cheap and cheerful. This is the spot.
BEWARE!!! They do NOT care if you have food allergies. They admitted they saw my allergy and they said they didnt know what it was so they ignored it. The woman that I spoke to on the phone started to yell at me and said if you want another one you have to pay! and pick it up! I had ordered with Uber eats. I was so shocked that someone will yell and their customer like that. Please be careful if you have any food allergies. they DO NOT take them serious. Its too bad, I wanted to support local businesses, I will not support businesses that dont care about the customers.
Dont waste your money. They are so rude. I have contacted public health. I placed an order and they ignored my food allergy. They admit they read it but they ignored it. Dietary restrictions: Bell pepper allergy
Had a rude interaction with them. They don t care about food allergies at all. Yelled at us when we called about the allergies.
Love this restaurant especially the lunch buffet.
Customers beware!!! This restaurant does not care about food allergies. We noted a food allergy (bell pepper) when ordering and they cooked the dish with said allergy. When we called to address the issue, they said they didn t know what a bell pepper was. Since they didn t know what a bell pepper was, it was OUR fault. We would have to pay for a new dish and come pick it up since it s our fault. Any restaurant that ignores food allergies and blames the customer for their ignorance should not be open.
Best Chinese food I have tasted in Ontario
First of all, order ahead is useless. Even you order 30 mins ahead and you should wait another 20mins. Then the shrimp dumplings are smelly and sour.
The food is decent. But for most of the dim sum you can definitely tell its heated up frozen food. If youre coming for dimsum, go to tnt for authentic food.
I love the lunch buffet. Great place for a meeting or a solo munch.
Its very rare to come across a restaurant with such terrible traditional dim sum. I will never visit it again. The barbecue pork rice rolls were both tasteless and unpleasant, while the deep-fried taro dumplings were harder than stones. Its truly the worst dim sum restaurant in Toronto.
They kindly offered to use veggie oil instead of peanut oil due to my allergies. I think this is a very good Cantonese restaurant. Best dishes I ve tried= braised beef casserole, beef and Chinese broccoli, eggplant garlic and chilies I got skip the dishes from here twice, both times were very good. Portions are large The first time I got their family dinner that came with hot and sour soup, pineapple beef, eggplant and fish casserole, shrimp, Chinese broccoli and it came with two large spring rolls that were great. The soup was packed full of bamboo shoots and chillies. The broccoli dish was very good. So was the eggplant and fish casserole. I also ordered the Cantonese fried chicken and it was a decent size but some pieces were dry. I would come back again! Maybe I ll try ordering via FanTuan.
Been going to King Tin for more then 20 years at 3 locations, it is my families favorite Restaurant Go there once and you will find out why ! Kid-friendliness: Great place run by a family
Overall a really great experience food wise. Only issue I d say is the fact that we found a bone in one of our dishes that was definitely not supposed to have bones in it. But overall good tasting food. Would recommend the pork shuimai! They are massive and one serving is definitely enough for one person!
Not a bad spot. Dont know the Waterloo area well but this place did not disappoint. Options were nice.. buffet or al la carte with dim sum options. The al la carte items had a nice home cooked feel and taste to them which was nice.
Great place for a quick lunch
Not sure why I came there twice, the service was so careless, dirty seat and table, no one cares .
Everything is good! The RICE has flavour (Salted shrimp rice)! I came here for my Birthday and it was awesome. Not too busy in the Summer- but I think thats the perfect reason to go here. If you like Chinese food youll like this place We got even more food that wasnt in the photo lol
Great PeKing duck. We did not have to order beforehand as indicated by the menu. The wraps were very thin and the sides were delicious.
The food simply tastes bad in general. The sweet and sour pork is so sweet, and the wonton soup pasta tastes like nothing.
Please update your restaurant hours on Tuesdays since youve been closed!!! King tin is my favourite Chinese restaurant in the tri-city area. Im from Trinidad and Tobago and back there we get amazing cantonese food, king tin is the only place that hits those dishes and flavours spot on. Ive been eating here religiously about 3 years now and I love it. I truly do, I always recommend it. No chicken balls here (Thank God) only real food lol My favourite things are Young chow fried rice Ramen noodles on hot plate Shrimp with spicy salt (it comes with the shell on or off) Cantonese fried chicken Shrimp rolls Spring rolls (must eat hot) It has an interesting texture thats personally only enjoyable when eaten hot. I promise you try any one of those dishes and you wont be disappointed! Parking: Very limited parking
Students, check out the lunch buffet
We ordered the braised duck and received bones and fat. Also the noodles from the other order were very oily. Overall everything didnt have a good taste. Wouldnt recommend. Definitely not ordering from there again.
Dim sum was disgusting, do not order dim sum , sticky rice was not sticking together and look raw inside, the meat taste funny, the dumbling looked dry ...very disappoint.
Ordered takeout through Uber Eats. I ordered fried squid in spicy salt, shrimp rolls, and fried rice noodles with sliced beef. The fried squid (breaded calamari) was extremely delicious; comes in various sizes and shapes and is probably the best calamari I ve had, especially because of the sauce they put on top that s mixed with garlic, green peppers, green onions and spicy peppers. I would say the spicy is very tolerable similar to sriracha, so if you can handle that you ll be fine. The noodles with beef dish is very generous in size and will leave you with plenty for leftovers. This is a good dish for those that like mild flavours and I specifically ordered this for my toddler who kept asking for more. I ve ordered this exact same dish from numerous of different places and this one is the best one. The shrimp rolls are good overall but not would pair up nicely with a dip and it didn t come with one (I dipped it in the calamari sauce). The shrimp rolls come in a package of 6 pieces. It s only shrimp that s inside the roll but they re large chunks and are filled with a generous amount for the size of the spring roll. I d say this is hands down the freshest and tastiest Chinese food order I ve had in the KW region in the past 10 years. I can t speak for the rest of the menu as this is the first time I ve dined here but I will definitely reorder the squid/calamari again and try other items on their menu as I m very impressed.
Had dim sum here. Food is not bad, dark soy overly used. Basically in everything, not sure if thats a regional issue with local client preference, or kitchen staff regional cooking style. Some dishes have not kept up with more modern presentations, but not a bad thing. Havent seen a full sized lo mai gai in 20 years.
why last call 9:50 and close at 10?????
Staff was generally nice but not enough to save the food. Dim sum were poorly made. Siu Mai was really mushy and the shrimp dumpling fell out of its wrapper. Naturally the taste went away as well.
Love this place for real Chinese food. Always hot and tasty. The only knock is sometimes the servers don t clear tables quick enough. However they are still lovely people
Ive been going to this place since they were in uptown at Long and McQuaid. Food is criminally underrated, lunch buffet is one of the best values in the region. Delicious, authentic, always on point.
Food was up to standard, however took wayyy too long to come despite being the only ones in the restaurant. They also messed up our order
Chicken was tender and not chewy, dumplings were great, but the Singapore noodles could be improved with more of the protein and less noodles
The ambiance and cleanliness of the setting are impressive, offering ample space indoors. However, parking is limited, and the service varies, with some staff not being particularly friendly. Despite calling to reserve on a Sunday, contrary to what was communicated about a weekend buffet, there was none available. Unfortunately, the food quality is subpar, characterized by poor presentation and horrible taste. Surprisingly, some dishes arrived cold, contrary to expectations, especially for items like radish cake and dumplings. Regrettably, after dinner, several family members, including children, experienced stomachaches. In summary, while the restaurant presents itself well, the overall dining experience is marred by low-quality food, making it a place I wouldnt recommend. Parking: Limited
Personally, I like the salt and pepper squid the most. The morning tea is really average. There is an American-style Chinese buffet at noon on weekdays. If you don t want to cook, you can try this.
New and improved. Clean n open compared to old one. Food is OK, small space nd has little parking Re-edit. Just visit after couple years. Food is very poorly made. Ordered 12 items. 4 taste sour. Seems like its old. Fried food. They used really old oil. Slow/bad service. Would never come here again.
The roasted chicken, roasted duck, and roasted pork are good, but the rest are just fake. I don t understand why people eat them. Cantonese food is out of date?
People are kind, but dim sum was meh. Dishes tasted a bit weird for takeout
King Tin is one of the most authentic Chinese food places in the Waterloo area. Even with such a large menu, they have been able to keep up with the quality of food consistency over the past few years I have visited. Expect some wait time during busy hours - but they are definitely worth the wait.
Had take out for Chinese New Year, and the food was late (20 min) due to understaffing. In the past this place has been great for dining in. We won t be back until this location has fully reopened after the pandemic
The food was great, dimsum quality is comparable to GTA. Just no parking!!!! Since this restaurant is located at the podium of a residential condominium tower the parking spaces are for the residence only and that is essential considering the location is in the middle of a residential area.
not bad! inside is freezing, though - even the employees were wearing coats...
One of the best Tim Sum in KW with great customer service.
Cannot support a restaurant that serves shark fin soup.
honestly.... the worst dim sum i ever had, the shrimp has gotten bad and they still served it to us, DO NOT GO HERE
The food has always been amazing for the past 10+ years and still is. However the new servers seem to be abit slow or taking their time. There is abit of a language barrier since the servers are international students it seems.
Its ok. Nothing special about it for the pricing. The Char Siew Pau is a bit dry.
Great place for Dim Sum
Great DimSum and hidden, never knew it was there. A big step up from their old location. Parking on street.
This is my first time trying food from King Tin. I ordered BBQ pork on Uber eat because it looked very tasty. However, the food I received was cold and it wasnt appealing. The slice was cut very thick. Not sure if it was my taste or the way the pork was prepared, but it had a very weird taste and not good at all.
Always amazing food!
Came and had dim sum here yesterday. The chicken feet were ok. The chicken bun was dry and the chicken inside tasted as if it were expired. This wasn t even the worst part though. The shrimp dumplings were absolutely non-edible! The shrimp tasted as if it was dried then rehydrated and had a funky taste to it. Only place in the kw region where I experienced this. Avoid this place for dim sum if you can. I threw up several times because of it.
Horrible food. Taste awful.
Lunch Buffet is worth the price
Good food but slow service
Gave the wrong dish... The tofu is a bit rancid
They serve shark fin soup which is inhumane and illegal. Don t go here
It was a great experience. I tried to capture how great it was with the bride and the groom dancing and my boy with the suit ..the food was so good that every time I had the camera out ..he was eating
I went there for my friends wedding party and was blown out by the food! We had a 10 course meal and loved every bit of it!
Never had worse dim sum in my life, don t come here for dim sum.
This restaurant has such good food but their service is seriously lacking. Be prepared to wait a long time for your food, but once you get it than youll be happy.
A good selection of dim sum. It may have been a mistake, but when it came time to pay, yhere were two extra items on the bill that we did not order. One item, maybe a mistake, but two?? Delicious food.
We ordered dim sum for lunch. Food and service are good!
Dim sum time!!! Was craving for Dim sum so we came here for lunch on a Sunday. There werent a lot of people at that time and the staff got us seated immediately. The dim sum were in reasonable prices and I like how they give you images of how the dim sum look like on a separate paper. Staffs were responsive. The dim sum were pretty big portion and they were yummy. We ordered the classic dim sum like Siu Mai and shrimp dumplings and steamed sticky rice. The steamed sticky rice was so yummy but in my opinion, I think they can put more flavour to it and it can be more sticky. The Siu mai were super good and they were pretty big portioned. Also, we waited a while until the dim sum were served. Overall, it is pretty good!
The food was not good last couple visits! Bad experience, not again!!
Food portion was small. Our two lobster was mostly shell. Pricey for what you are getting. The food taste good. Service was horrible. We ordered clams, steam fish, lobster, seafood birdnest, chicken, beef and 15 beers.
Disgusting. I ordered 2 dim sums and a congee. 30 mins later congee still no there. I went to pay my bill and asked for the congee to be packed to go. I gave them 8% tip (shouldve given 0%). Heres the reason for low tip: - food took too long - dim sum was not cooked through - I asked to be sit next to a power outlet to charge my phone and they said no. I was going to let all that go until the waiter came to me with a receipt where they CIRCLED suggested tip 15%. I asked them what that was, they told me You asked for it. Dear King Tin, if you want more tip, please provide better service instead of being aggressive to your customers. Ive been visiting since 2018, such a pity that I will never go back.
We have been going to King Tin for well over 20 years! One of the best sticky rice in KW, period! Lunch buffet is awesome but try the weekend Dim Sum yummy!
Best
Best dim sum in Waterloo that Ive tried
Amazing as always
All the shrimp dishes are wonderful! The leaf rice is a bit too large and dry.
I started coming to The King Tin in my late teens with my sister. It was then and still is fantastic food. Im now 55, and moved away 13 years ago. Even after 35 years, May still remembers me and more importantly my sister who died many years go. Recently I ordered the usual: beef in oyster sauce, steamed rice and spicy squid. I walked in and after a decades+ hiatus, I discovered May is still there cooking amazing food and she remembered me as I did her.10/10 for this restaurant, food and service. Thank you.
Horrible service ... placed and order and picked it up. When arrived to get the take out I had made sure if this was everything and they had said yes it is everything. Came home and noticed we are missing an item , called then and was told they would deliver it ... 45 mins later still no delivery . Called them asking where is the delivery they said it s near our house . Finished dinner still no deliver . Called them demanding a refund... they said no delivery is coming. At this point I had gotten into my car to head to the restaurant. Got there and the item was still at restaurant when I arrived. When asked for my refund they said they had made the item if I can just take it. No thank you my dinner is over no need for the item. Then half price...? No I just want my refund. I would have appreciated it if them had told me they haven t delivered it yet and then I would be more understanding but when you tell me it s near my house when it s just sitting there ? No Have always came here for family events and gathers but will not be returning to this restaurant anymore. Sorry not sorry. Responding to owners response : It is not my responsibility during COVID to hang out inside your restaurant when other people who are also waiting on their take out to open up every single one of my take out bags to make sure every single item is in there when I had in-fact before paying and before leaving asked if this was everything and your staff assured me that it was all there ! So do not point the finger at me for not making sure my order was all there when I had TRUSTED you guys that the order was ready! In fact it was not shortly after I left did you called me ! It was half an hour. And when you said you guys would deliver can you remind me again how long that took? Did the food even leave your store ? No it did not ! So do your LIE about that please ! When my address is only 5 mins away why did it take you 45 mins then to NOT DELIVER the item but for me to call and question and having to drive there to witness the item still there ? I had to go there to get my refund . No I was not rude at all when I told you I did not want the item or it half price ! I just wanted my money and never ever return to your establishment and tell everyone I know how horrible it is at your restaurant for putting words in my mouth and not honouring your words for delivery! If you said you guys don t have the capability to deliver then say so but you did not and said the drivers was near by to my house! Disappointed!
Be advised, they dont take walk in orders. Person in front of me was ignored for over an hour and we waited behind him for over 45 minutes. Edit: Everyones allowed a bad day the past 2 years. Today the manager was handling the walk-in traffic and buffet. We came in at the same time as 2 days ago and were taken care of right away. As always the food was delicious.
Very bad service.
Garbage place Too salty and everything is over-cooked
Good food for a good price! Traditional Cantonese style restaurant. The roast duck noodle soup and beef brisket noodle soup had good authentic flavours. Service was effecient and friendly.
I read some good reviews of this place and so went to try it. I really want to write a good review but I need to be honest: The food today was almost bad...I could not eat some because they were cold. The servers were friendly and earnest but it seemed they were not trained to know how to serve and what to do. They just sort hung around the till and talked to each other....maybe the pandemic lockdowns had thrown them out of sync. There was only one other table occupied. The buffet selection was also very small. I dont know how some people rated them so highly. Perhaps theyve never been to a real sumptuous buffet before. So, cold and sad looking food, non-service...a generous two-star for this time. I might visit again in a few months to see if today was just a bad day or if its normal.
Love this place. We drive all the way out from brantford just to enjoy their dim sum.
Been eating here for 15 years. Authentic, quality food.
One of the only Cantonese-style restaurants that I could find between 2015 and 2021 in the University/Uptown Waterloo area. Decent menu options and take out orders are quick. Despite it being $$ for what is is, its a good option for the location.
Dimsum was the worst Ive eaten ever. Shrimp dumplings had a slight vinegar taste and chive dumplings were inedible that I had to spit it out.. Something Ive never done before. Sad to be so harsh, but disappointed. Go to Sams Kitchen or Cameron House.
Food was good. Ordered beef stew, sweet and sour pork and chicken mushroom casserole.
We were there for a friends birthday dinner and it was absolutely lovely. The staff were lovely, they took all our orders correctly. The menu made it slightly hard for food selection as there were no pictures. We had variety of rice plates and accompanying sauces. 100 recommend. Food prices are okay as well.
Amazing food and dim sum on the weekends!
Waited 50 mins for one order of fried noodles and a pastry. Food was mediocre when it arrived as well.
Foods pretty good. Too many flies around us non stop and they used printer paper for my food with ink on it?... kinda unsanitary in general.
New location is more modern than their last. Parking is limited though, since theyre now located under a condo. Youll have to do street parking if the lot is full. Food is good for family dinners.
Amazing Food!!!
Amazing dumplings and all you can eat here is so tasty and very fairly priced.
How is this place still open? The prices are dirt cheap and the lunch buffet is a steal. Amazing food for amazing prices. The service is questionable but the food speaks for itself.
We were very disappointed with our meal. The Chrystal dumplings were watery and overcooked, our rice rolls were very thick and very few shrimp in them and our noodle dish lacked flavor.
Extremely disappointing and unsafe environment. We went for Dim Sum today and of the 9 items we ordered, 4 of them were using clearly expired meat. It was noticeable the second the food arrived by how it smelled, and on the first taste. We had to spit the food out. It was brought to their attention, and they removed from our bill, but seemed relatively unbothered and disinterested in the issue. We will definitely not be back, and would recommend a health inspector visit King Tin very soon.
One of the best asian restaurant I ve ever eaten at. The seasoning on the beef and calamari is out of this world.
Went here for dim sum and ordered 6 dishes; the fried squid, Cheung fun, char siu bao, har gow, egg tart, and radish cake. Food was pretty much mediocre, everything tasted like what it was suppose to taste like but somehow always missed a mark. 3/5 Service was good. Everyone seemed nice, they were a little absent minded when I first sat down but honestly I get like that too. All the service after I had ordered was good. 4/5
Have been there before and got items from the a la carte menu - everything was fine: decent food, good service. This time have tried their buffet and wasnt impressed: imited selection, tastelless, extremely lot of bamboo in all dishes. Probably wouldnt do it again.
Im very disappointed with the experience I had at King Tin especially since Ive been wanting to come here since the beginning of summer. I wouldnt recommend this place at all even if the AYCE price seems tempting. My friends and I came here to try their all you can eat lunch buffet. For anyone wondering, their AYCE menu doesnt include dim sum and is instead a Mandarin (the restaurant) style buffet, but super small and very subpar. There are 10-12 metal containers of food including fried rice, chow mein, beef chow fun, eggplant, assorted siu mai and dumplings, spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken, stewed veggies, fried chicken wings, and hot and sour soup. First off, their food was cold from the first bite which is probably the minimum requirement for buffet food. Their beef chow fun was stale, chewy, and tasted worse than restaurant leftovers. The siu mai tasted funky and smelled sour, almost like it was old or they put in too much vinegar. It was so awful, I almost wanted to spit it out. Overall, my friends and I lost our appetite and tried our best to finish as much of the food on our plates as we could. Ive never left food on my plate at a restaurant unless I was going to take it home and none of us are picky eaters, so you can imagine how bad the food must have been. As you can probably tell, we didnt have seconds and actually had to go somewhere else for lunch. Unfortunately, I wont be coming back.
Lemon chicken only breading: noodles burned: chicken fried rice no flavour. Vegetable just ok. The worst experience ever.$44. waste
Food isnt bad. Tastes like Chinese food however, their beef dishes taste very VERY similar. I wouldnt recommend getting two sliced beef dishes because the only thing they change is the vegetables. The sauce tastes the same too. But take this review with a grain of salt. I got my meal via SkiptheDishes.
This was the worst dim sum that I have ever had. Service was horrible, waiting 30 minutes for dumplings (that were tasteless) and another 15 minutes for bad (un)sticky rice. The table next to us that came 10 minutes after us got all there food (10 dishes) and we were still waiting. After complaining all they said was very busy. There was a total of six tables including us. Canceled the rest of the order and left.
Our favorite place in Waterloo!
