262 King St N, Waterloo, ON N2J 2Y8, Canada
Intimate restaurant & bar featuring Indonesian, Vietnamese & Thai dishes, plus garden tables.
OH MY GOD. You have to eat here, its worth the price and service was great. I had the pad ped surf & turf (tenderloin medallions and tiger prawns in a red curry sauce with vegetables and a side of jasmine rice) and it was one of the best things I have ever eaten. I finished the entire massive bowl, and the server practically congratulated me. My partner had a fish/scallop lemongrass coconut dish and everything was cooked to literal perfection - like melted in our mouths. To start we had those little dual loaded raw oysters for $4 and I could have eaten a dozen. Good cocktails, good desert and specialty coffees (try the nutty one). Thanks for bringing the wonderful flavors of south east Asia to Ontario.
Bhima's Warung is a wonderful South East Asian inspired restaurant with an eclectic menu. The food was delicious with bold flavours of sweet , sour and spicy, everything tasted freshly made. Service was good and was quick to resolve minor issues with the order. The restaurant is cozy with a lively atmosphere.
Unique food choices but everything we ordered was delicious. And full marks on the presentation.
Excellent place. It's got a nice intimate vibe, and although the food is on the pricier side of things, I'd say it's really worth it. It's a lot of fusion food, though, so it was kind of hard to gauge exactly what you were getting from the menu (or at least it was for me), but nothing disappointed. I was going to give it a 4/5, but my friend asked for his leftovers to be packed, and the waitress took them away and gave them back wrapped in an aluminum foil swan. That took them over the line for me.
I'd recommend the BISTIK 'TANDOORI'. The tenderloin was cooked to perfection and the potatoes were very flavourful. We enjoyed a delicious meal
Went this evening for our anniversary and truly enjoyed it. Everything about the food, atmosphere and service was elegant and enjoyable. Our meals were delicious and full of flavour and the drinks were amazing. Our waitress (I believe her name was Melissa) was so sweet and kind. Definitely will be back for future celebrations.
Top notch everything. The food was incredible. The drinks were delightful and flavourful, I wanted to get the margarita on repeat. The food was so well thought out and flavourful, and I loved being able to see into the kitchen. The food portions were surprisingly HUGE, and their leftovers were so cutely packaged in tinfoil boats. Will definitely be back.
If you are in Waterloo, and looking for a great dinner and like amazing food you have to eat here. A great dining experience every time. We come here whenever we can, the cuisine is outstanding. The chefs go through a lot of training, including traveling to Indonesia to learn from the top chefs. A lot of the dishes are influenced by Indonesian cuisine and a flavor explosion with each bite. We've tried seafood dishes, beef, venison, chicken... You just can't go wrong! Everyone will find something on the menu. Weekly features in addition to their staple menu offer even more variety. You do need a reservation as the restaurant is not large. You have a table or sit at the bar and watch the magic happen in the kitchen. For drink lovers there is something for you too. Daily feature drink and lots of specialty beverages available as well as wine . Not too many beer options but there are a select few. Whenever we come here, ita always a great evening! Definitely recommend it! Make sure you are not in a rush, the experience is to enjoy every bite. Amazing appetizers, followed by your main course and desert (if you have room 😆). The portions are very generous! Enjoy! A quick note. The restaurant only takes debit or cash. No credit cards.
Absolutely the best restaurant in Waterloo! Ive been coming here for over 10 years and tried almost everything on the menu... the calamari and the baked oysters are my favourite apps, and the duck is my favourite main! Fried bananas for desert are so simple but sooooo good! Leanne is an unparalleled mixologist - her lychee martinis are my wifes fav!!
Such good food, innovative, different. Amazing steak and fish. Great service too.
Great experience
Bhima s is one of our favourite restaurants in KW. The food and drinks are always flavourful and satisfying and the atmosphere is wonderful. Highly recommend.
Got the dumplings, squid and duck, sangria to drink. So good!! The flavours are incredible. Will be back
The service was terrible. We felt insulted and treated rudely. We ordered lobster noodles but when it came, we got seafood curry. The boss was very rude and said that we ordered the wrong one. He was very rude and said that we pronounced the word when we ordered, but in fact we didnt know how to pronounce the Indonesian word, and the boss ordered the wrong one. Then, the boss treated us very rudely and said a lot of insulting words.
Had dinner recently at Bhimas to celebrate a graduation. We arrived earlier than our reservation and that was no problem at all for Pamela and the other employees. Pamela was our server and was well informed of the menu and helped us all find something we liked. All the food was 10/10, and the calm ambience of the restaurant really completes it for me. Good service, food, atmosphere, and such a unique menu. Worth the price every single time for me.
Consistently amazing food & amazing service!
6 years ago my review said...Not worth the price. Perfectly good seafood smothered in too much sauce. Laksa was $39 and had two shrimp two inexplicablely deep fried scallops and some mussel. The flavour is okay. Nasi goreng is okay and the appetizer are none standard. Went back today. Food is not more tasty and its a lot of Thai food now.. koi soi etc. It was bland.. I mean Indonesian food thats bland? My dish of ribs came with side of sugar and jalapeños. Still expensive and now they dont take credit card now.. but why did the waiter need to tell me that they havent done it for 4 years. Why would any one care?
First time here since moving to KWCb4 years ago, wish I didnt wait so long Incredible flavors, great portion to price ratio, and fantastic service. Will be back soon
Worth the drive from Elora! Though I d drive farther The curry was AMAZING! Thank You!
Had the Guay Toew and the vegetarian version, and we were very underwhelmed with the meal. At the price point, we found the noodles were undercooked and dry without much sauce/flavour. Enjoyed was the amount of vegetables with the noodles and the soupy oyster appetizer. Additionally the service was slightly condescending for some university students looking to try some new cuisine.
Very interesting concepts
I have been a regular customer at bhimas for 10 years. My recent visit to bhimas left a sour taste in my mouth. For the first time I took a group of friends for an event. Despite the majority of our group tipping generously, one waiter seemed utterly offended by one persons slightly lower tip. Instead of discreetly addressing the issue, they made a scene, tarnishing what could have been an enjoyable meal. Its disappointing that one staff members ego overshadowed an otherwise pleasant experience. I wont be recommending this place to anyone and I will not be returning either
An amazing understated south east Asian experience.
The food is some of the best Ive ever had and the staff are even better. Incredibly compassionate and accommodating for a member of our group who, due to undergoing extensive medical treatment, cant stomach a lot of foods. We took the left overs to go and had them for lunch the next day. This was a mistake. We were eating out again that night and the experience in the other restaurant was severely undercut by the superior quality of Bhimas microwaved leftovers.
Ate the spicy surf and turf. Was awesome...rich gravy , perfectly grilled rare / medium rare beef tenderloin. Large portion with a side of fluffy rice.
Overpriced Asian fusion restaurant. Every was just ok and not worth the price tag. The waiter was rude and came to ask us to please increase his tip and carried on pressuring us to give more tip which was very uncomfortable and unpleasant . Total lack of class! Food
Quite confused . That s really all I can say. How could a restaurant that doesn t take visa. Doesn t have a computer system. Has old very used dirty cutlery that doesn t match and poor service charge $50 for Asian style dishes? These are normally dishes that have a low price tag, so it makes it all that more confusing. Somehow the place is still busy. Two people and $250 for what I d call a very very mediocre experience. It s not bad in any area just really not great and for the price it is down right shocking. For $250 you could have a fantastic meal in Toronto that would blow your socks off. This is far from fine dining and far from good value. Will absolutely not be returning and surprised anyone goes at all. Hopefully things change
The food is quite overpriced for what you get. When paying such a high price point you would expect exceptional food as well as service. I got the tandoori steak, and for the price, the cut of the beef was underwhelming and quite small. The plates have good presentation but the taste was lacking for what you pay. You could get a much better steak and flavour for the same price point elsewhere. The worst part was having to wait 30+ minutes for a drink while the rest of the table got theirs much quicker. The cocktail list is extensive, but the colada and margarita I tried tastes nothing similar to what you would expect those two simple drinks to taste like. I don t think I will be returning.
Just the best spot there is, really. Eat here, just do it!
Great spot for great food
What an incredible establishment. Food, service, atmosphere. This place does not disappoint. Truly a hidden gem in this city
Great food but very dingy dated and ugly location. Definitely not a fine dining experience.
Enjoyed a lovely meal at Bhimas. We have gone a few times over the years, but it has been since before the pandemic that we have had a chance to get back there. Food is creatively curated, environment is more casual than fine. But the food is really fantastic. A few menus to choose from, Vegetarian options. We enjoyed bison Oso Buco, lobster and monkfish, and cha gio rolls. Plenty of options for craft, beers or cocktails.
10/10 on food quality here. This is one of the last proper Fine dining restaurants in the region. The ingredients are top tier. The cooking is absolutely perfect and the flavour is fabulous. This is the complete opposite of an in and out, cheap food experience. Came here for my 3 year anniversary with my fiancée.
Best chef . She made my food just the way I liked it . Not so spicy , also birthday night . Home made ice cream to die for
Service was good but cant say the same about the food. More fusion than authentic - I have nothing against fusion, but unfortunately the different tastes/ingredients didnt come together well. Usually I try to finish as much of the food as I can to not waste, but I couldnt bring myself to do so at this venue.
After hearing such great things about Bhima s over the years, we decided to finally give it a try and the experience was lukewarm. The food was disappointing. Although most of the portions were generous, the flavour was lacking. The oysters were a bit too bland; it seemed as if all the natural brine was gone. The papaya salad needed more fish sauce, lime and it wasn t spicy as advertised. The pakora on the side of my entree was cold compared to the main dish. Overall, the value was not great. For the price, we were expecting a culinary experience but were left thinking we ve had better Indonesian/asian fusion foods elsewhere. The service was ok; we were rushed through ordering and had to ask for water refills. I wouldn t go so far as saying I d never return. I d be open to giving them another try but I m not going out of my way to eat here again.
Always a fantastic dining experience! Very creative dishes with interesting ingredients and combinations that I would never think of putting together, but somehow they always work and are phenomenal. I would love to just bottle all of their sauces...theyre one of my favourite restaurants in the KW area- always a treat!!
Booked this restaurant about a month in advance for Valentines day. Booking was confirmed. Menu had a lot of options and price ranges. Less than a week before Valentines day we get an email saying only a Valentines day menu will be served. Only had expensive and a very limited amount of options. I would say dissapointing but honestly unprofessional and ruined our chances of finding a good restaurant for Valentines Day with such short notice.
Quirky and weird, but very good food. Probably the most unique restaurant in KW.
Really special place. Lovely food. Lovely servers. We went with recommendations for everything. The monkfish was spectacular. Yum!!
Second time here. Amazing. Best high quality gourmet food in town. Great to treat someone special. Atmosphere is outstanding. Food is 10/10
Ordered up vegetarian entrees. I thought for the price the food would be great and all. Sadly it was not worth a bit. Rice was not soft. Tempeh was hard. In the end had really not a worthwhile experience. I am a foodie and eat a lot outside. There are much better restaurants than this place. Not only they are very tasteful, plateful and also economical. Example zen garden ,Guelph is way way tasteful. Will not recommend or ever visit bhima again Vegetarian options: Hmm not much . Appetizers are just different salad variations. Entrees are not much different. Hard to believ the chefs cannot think of appetizers other than just salads. Have these chefs heard of parotta Indonesia style.
Great food. Will be back. But you must be prepared for the price
Very good food with vegetarian options. This is on the pricier side of things but the food is delicious. Service was very good and the restaurant has great ambiance. The restaurant has limited seated and has a patio adjacent to King St, which is not my preference due to the noise and exhaust smell. Limited parking on the side of the restaurant. Does NOT take any credit cards; debit card or cash only. We would definitely return.
I had high hopes for this place but sadly was a huge disappointment. Staff, particularly management are all unprofessional and quite unpleasant to say it kindly. Save your time and money $ ..avoid.
Get a reservation. Dont be fooled by the exterior. I had only looked at the outside and was very surprised when a neighbor said it was one of the best restaurants in town. Great food, service, and overall experience. Will be back. Parking:
I went to this place a few years ago and it was super tasty! Cant wait to go back. It didnt look like much from the outside, but inside is really neat. The food was outstanding!!
I was on the fence about the place as soon as I saw it wasn t the cleanest place and vary out dated but gave the place a shot, the food took an hour to be delivered to the table the kitchen staff just seemed to stand around and the place was smoky because of the kitchen being in the waiting area. I don t know if there s no hood fan, but there is smoke everywhere and it gives you an absolute migraine. And to top it off when I pay with debit, I was going to leave the cash tip but before I could do that the server Runs over and arguing with me about not being tipped and makes a seen in front of the whole restaurant and makes me feel disgusting he did it twice because the first time wasn t enough if i could give it no stars I would have Parking: Parking was a disaster Kid-friendliness: As long as the waitress doesn t yell your kids Wheelchair accessibility: Good luck
Besides the excellent service, the food is bad and had nothing to do with Thai or Vietnamese. Too expensive and the atmosphere is confusing, to say the least. If you are looking for southeast Asian cuisine, there are definitely better choices in the city.
Good food , great atmosphere . A long wait for food but delicious . We spent 3 hours here . Non drinkers so feels a lot longer for food . Highly recommend most menu items . Large portions , I ordered to much :) Vegetarian options: Lots of yummy options
Really good food. Bolder flavours. Bread pudding dessert was terrific. Unique flavour to their oysters, very nice. Drinks were great. Food : 5/5
Amazing food. One of the best in KW, if not the best
Always great all the way around.
Cant believe it took me so long to go. Fantastic flavours and great service.
This place is awesome! Great food great service. This is becoming our favourite place in Waterloo.
The food was delicious, totally worth the price and the time. I ordered the cornish hen with sticky rice and garlic naan. The portion was very filling. However, I was slightly disappointed by the oyster appetizer I got: the oyster itself was smaller than I expected and the flavour was overpowered by the cilantro. Still tasty though.
Excellent place. It is Indonesian restaurant. I think they serve fusion cuisine. Recommend. You can experience great food. Also, you may taste a bit smoke.^^
Overpriced and mediocre at best
My favourite restaurant. Been dining here for 25 years. Each visit is unique and memorable. Can always count on the Nuea Pad Ribeye and Muscovy duck Bakmie Goreng, but youll be hard-pressed not to choose one of the specials. If your looking for a culinary extravaganza, this is the place.
The care they put into their offerings and complexity of flavours is simply mind-blowing. Had a family-style dinner with so many dishes for my birthday dinner and all 8 people were floored with the food. We all left stuffed and delighted with our experience!
If there were more stars, I would give more, across the board. So super super excellent!
Decent food but little expensive
Its always a great experience. Great food that you can only find there. Awesome atmosphere and staff
How a restaurant can stay consistently great for 3 decades is beyond me. Just had my mind blown again tonight.
Fabulous experience!! Food was wow and service impeccable. Well done! Will be back!
It was delicious and the staff was so amazing!
My husband and I recently enjoyed an evening out at Bhima s and were blown away by the FLAVOURS (and portions) of both meals we ordered. Although their hours had initially made us pretty sad (since we usually do our date nights on Mondays and they re not open), they immediately made up for the minor heartache haha This restaurant came highly recommended from some church friends of ours and we already know we wanna come back asap. (It might take a little saving up, but it was well worth the $$$.)
Good food, reasonable prices for the quality and good ambiance / service.
Always a great experience. Never disappoints.
Very disappointed this time. I remember coming here 5 years ago, ordering a daily special fried chicken, which then got 2 other tables to order the same thing by smell alone. This time, it was not good, specially for the price they charge, we did not leave happy. The portion was still very big for the most parts, and they pride themself on the sauces, which was also very delicious. But everything else was pretty bad. I ordered a crab meat in puff pastry. There was no puff, it completely dense and soggy Pok pok with pad thai. Pok pok was good, But I think they forgot the salt in pad thai. Ribs were Ok, nothing bad Fish and chips, this one was the worst, it was maybe half a filet, texture was more like fish jerky, too salty to eat without drinking water. The chip was grits fries, which Ive had at other places before, but this one had 0 flavor Dessert was very delicious, but 15 dollars for 3 bites each was not worth it
Had dinner with family yesterday. The food was very disappointing, especially the vegetarian entrees. It had no flavour and seemed like random food was put together to make a dish. Will not be going there again. To be fair, the cocktails were good though.
Incredible!! For us its a once a year treat that is well worth the wait and never disappoints. I try to make it a point to try new things each time and everything is always amazing. A must go-to restaurant for anyone who seems themself a Foodie in the K-W area!!
Bhimas has been my favourite place to go to celebrate special occasions. Their food is filled with incredible flavours and presented beautifully. There are so many options to choose from.
Food is somewhat expensive, and worth every penny. Staff is fast and friendly. Walls look hand painted. Parking: Theres parking across the street. Its in a building with not too much space so expect to walk a few meters.
My visit to Bhimas Warung was a mixed bag of emotions. The restaurants ambiance was delightful, setting the stage for what I hoped would be a great dining experience. I was warmly greeted by the host, which started things off on the right foot. However, our evening took an unexpected turn when we were rushed to order within just two minutes of being seated. The pressure to make quick decisions was unsettling, given that we were handed three menus to peruse. The waiter even mentioned that they were keeping the kitchen open solely for our table, which added unnecessary stress. Despite this initial setback, I decided to focus on the food. I ordered the som tom salad, which turned out to be a highlight of the evening. It was delicious and satisfying, a testament to the restaurants culinary skills. Unfortunately, I cant say the same for the waiters service. It left much to be desired. To our surprise, when we asked for a single bill, it became apparent that the waiter had perhaps expected an unusually high tip, around 30%. This unexpected demand for a substantial gratuity left a sour taste in our mouths. Its disheartening to see that Im not the only one with this experience, as Ive come across similar reviews. Overall, Bhimas Warung left me with mixed feelings. While the ambiance and som tom salad were noteworthy, the rushed service and the awkward tipping situation marred what could have been an enjoyable evening. Id advise others to consider their options and perhaps explore different dining establishments, as this one may not consistently deliver the quality of service and hospitality one would hope for
Love Bhimas. Many delicious dinners here. An experience.
Don t go here, honestly terrible service. Felt like we were rushed, treated rudely, and just plain lied to when we asked questions about the menu and how shareable things are. Also the cocktail I got had the disgusting consistency of curdled milk and was 50% ice. Food is just okay as long as you choose wisely, but honestly not worth the high prices they charge.
This was my first time having Indonesian food and it was amazing! Very different then what I m use to having. The presentation of each dish was quite unique.
Had a bison osso buco that changed me as a human being. Service is impeccable and the playlist made the meal even better. Bless you
We went for our 15 year anniversary last night. the drinks were fantastic, we ordered the dumplings as our app and unfortunately it got lost in the orders and ended up coming out after our meals had reached the table... they were very apologetic and comped them which was nice. my husband got the sea scallop risotto and loved it. I got the duck and noodle dish, I enjoyed the noodles and the duck was cooked medium rare- which is how I usually like it- but it was cut so thick that trying to cut it down smaller at the table with a butter knife made it really difficult and the duck itself was really tough. all in all I think if I had ordered something other than the duck I would be giving a higher review for the food. I had read some reviews about needing to order the right thing here and maybe I just chose wrong. the atmosphere was beautiful though and the server was very lovely.
I m hungry just making this review months later.
The food here is amazing with unique flavors and ingredients. They often have a variety of specials, all of which we have tried were delicious. Very cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Our favorite dish is the Goi Tai dumplings. Highly recommend.
I had an amazing experience here overall. The staff were very pleasant and the chef was unbelievable. The food was so delicious. I had the baked oyster the osso bucco rendang plus the bison and the butternut squash creme brulee for dessert which was out of this world. I would highly recommend trying this place out for yourself.
I highly recommend this Indonesian restaurant, it is one of a kind. Their menu has a wide variety of indonesian fusion dishes, plenty to select from. We just ordered and picked a meal that is unknown to us and voila! I could say that one main dish can serve up to 2 people. The presentation is excellent, the food was delicious and would definitely be back here again.
We have been enjoying this restaurant since the 90s. What on earth happened? Food used to be delicious, scrumptious, and irresistible. Todays dinner was a huge letdown. The there was something wrong with every course. The food was overcooked, too salty, and the flavor combinations were very off. The meat had a strange consistency. Even my cocktail was off. Something has changed, perhaps the owner or the chef. The waiter did nothing to rectify our experience. I hope this was a one- off experience but reading some of the reviews I have to wonder.
Not authentic Indonesian food. Taste not like Indonesian food.
Amazing food !!!
Highly not recommended. Not authentic to Indonesian food at all.too salty.too pricey.
My wife and I love going to Bhimas - we go about 6 times a year. I love their beef tenderloin - Bistik Tandoor. Always consistent. Over the past few years, I would try their Prime Rib steak. The first time was exceptionally weak. I made the mistake to give it another try last week. It was even worse. Tough, grizzle, and overcooked. If Paul was there, he would never have put that piece of meat on the grill.
Visited Bhimas Warung for dinner with a group of friends on Thursday night. The entire experience was wonderful. Everything from the atmosphere which was very pretty and added to the ambiance of the whole restaurant, to the service which was terrific and then the food...just incredible. The prices are expensive, BUT this restaurant is a wonderful place to experience some amazing and authentic Thai food. Well worth the prices. Good quality food! A hidden gem in K/W.
Not only have I dined here, but when i was in high school, I worked here. I was lucky to be able to try so many of the wonderful meals that come out of the kitchen here at Bhimas. I can guarantee you, EVERYTHING that comes out of this kitchen is not only fresh, but Paul goes out of his way to ensure that all of the meats and produce are of very high quality, and better yet, he supports small businesses while doing so. Paul (owner) is a wonderful man with stories that could entertain you for hours. If you ve been debating eating here, you ve got to. The staff is very friendly, and you definitely feel at home here at Bhima s.
Private party allowed us to fully indulge on beautiful hot fresh plates for 3 hrs. Great experience
One of the best places to dine in Waterloo (if not the best).
Had really high expectations but the food was so bland. Service was also bad. It was like the waitress didnt even know we were there. Overall bad experience and do NOT recommend that anyone go here. There are plenty of amazing restaraunts in KW region - this is not one of them.
A blessed experience with the food gods. This place is heaven for foodies.
I love Bhimas, they have amazing that you wont find anywhere else in town!
Still one of the great hidden restaurants in Waterloo Region. Always fantastic staff and food. Number 1 on local date night recommendations.
Went with my partner and 11 month old baby for our birthday dinner. The atmosphere, food, and service was incredible. Pam was looking after us and did an absolutely wonderful job. Can t recommend this place enough.
Has been a few years but was as great vas ever. Service was spot on. Made many adjustments to our meals to meet vegan and vegetarian standards with no issues at all. Could use a sprucing up inside but after COVID who can afford it. Just happy its open and still a great vapor to go. Nothing else like it around.
Waited 2 hours for our dinner and the special features were a miss. $50 for an entree that was made at different times which would explain the Rubbery Lobster. Lesson learned to just send the food back, leave, or just don t wait that long. We were hungry so we ate. We were told that they have been missing key people since they opened their other restaurant. I guess at our expense. The staff didn t care and management didn t follow up so I m reluctantly leaving this review. It is too bad as we really enjoyed going for dinner over the past 20 years. I guess all things come to a end.
Excellent food and service as always!!
The kitchen ventilation is very bad. The whole restaurant is full of oily smog. However, the food is great and very creative, but we wont come back if the ventilation is not improved.
This is hands down our favourite restaurant and has been for years! It is consistently perfect and you feel like youre on vacation every single time you dine there. We cant recommend more!
It has been years since I was last at this Waterloo institution but Bhimas doesnt disappoint. If youve never been you may find the decor a bit quirky but it seems to be in line with the sort of small eatery you find in Indonesia (as seen by a Google Image search :p). The menu talks about how youd be making a complete glutton of yourself if you eat more than $3 worth at a warung but Bhimas Warung is not like one of those. Its pricy but incredibly delicious and satisfying. This isnt one of those restaurants where you pay $100 for a spoon of scented rice with some Basil foam. It was fun watching the kitchen work from the bar. We hung out there while our food was being prepared. Definitely recommended if theres space available. I hope to be back sooner next time!
Amazing food as always!
Great food, bursting with flavour, VERY generous portions, and a fun, funky atmosphere have made this one of my favourite restaurants in the region for over 20 years!
Foods good, portions are decently generous. Id recommend sitting outside if you can because the ventilation is a little poor inside. Probably wouldnt ever wanna come again, because I simply had to wait much too long for the food. We went late to avoid the dinner rush. Our 2 appetizers took 40 minutes to come, and the 2 mains came about an hour after the appetizers. There was only us and another large group of 10 people at the restaurant by the time our appetizers finished so perhaps the wait was because they had to cater to them first. The service was good, just make sure to have 3 hours to spare. Remember not to take your frustrations out on your servers.
Amazing vegan food !! And the dessert too. Wow.
Great food and ambience... The music should be more catered to the vibe and was slightly off with some mixed top 100. Overall good spot.
First time visiting post-pandemic and unfortunately, it was a very underwhelming experience. The restaurant including the restrooms was dirty, the service was lukewarm/slow, and the food was relatively bland and overcooked (tough shrimp, extremely dry fish). Weve always enjoyed it here but wont be back again.
The ambience?... unique The service?....outstanding! The wine list?....perfectly matched with the cuisine And the food?...to die for!!!!...flavour explosion in every morsel!!!
Amazing food! Its very flavorful and its not heavy. Apparently the menu frequently changes also. Everything is freshly made, you do pay for the quality but its obvious that you recieved it
Food and service are good. But the outdoor environment is poor and does not match it.
We have frequented Bhimas for over 20 years. We were there yesterday and noticed the food was totally underwhelming from a flavour standpoint. Not the usual amazing taste. Not sure what has happened here, maybe an off night?? Disappointed.
Best food in the area.
Not worth the price. Service was cold and below average from the moment we stepped inside until we walked out. Im not sure if its because we were dressing too casual. Anyway, the menu appeared interesting to us and we kinda hoped that it might be a creative fusion restaurant that worth the price. We ordered 2 appetizers (2 different dishes of oysters) and 2 mains (the duck breast one and the pork rib one). Althought the dishes came in huge portions, they were disappointing. Everything was cooked below average. I personally think they are too ambitious to mix and match random South east asia food components into one dish without understanding how to cook each component properly. Plus, they were not complimenting each others well. Flavors were really off. At the end of our meal, the server didnt even bother to ask how was our meal, they just informed us that they only accept debit and thanked for our payment. A little disappointed to pay ~75cad each for a below average dinner in terms of both service and food.
We are told that we could only pay with debit or cash only. And the machine didn t accept either Canadian and the US debit cards. Then the waitress suggested us do etransfer instead. What a fun experience
Another great meal at Bhimas Warung.
Our favourite restaurant that we treat ourselves to 1-2 times a year. A unique restaurant in the region that combines french, Vietnamese, Indonesian - the experience is a wild ride for the senses.
The chef is amazing, the layers of flavour will not disappoint. The main menu is fantastic and there are always a ton of daily specials for apps, mains and drinks. Its always busy so make a reservation, you wont be disappointed.
Food was good. I would not say its worth the price tag. Service was okay too.
A very diverse selection of dishes. Each one with their own unique and incredible taste. Portions are very generous and will fill you up. They also have an incredible selection of drinks and cocktails. The service was very friendly and prompt. The atmosphere was very cozy and a great place to take your partner or meet with friends. Make reservations to ensure you get a table.
Never a bad meal, always slow service- leaving more time to try their unique variety of cocktails, and more time to chat with good company. Always a nice variety of feature plates and large portions across the board. Bring your appetite
Great meal.
Still great... Its been 20 years since I last are here and my memory was accurate. Great food. Great service
Finally writing a review after being here 3 times! Parts of the menu change frequently, but Ive gotten their cornish hen, surf & turf, as well as monkfish and was satisfied every time. Such a wide variety of dishes with lots of flavour and creativity. The food leans a bit homey and comfortable rather than fine dining. A bit pricey but the portion sizes are VERY generous every time and I always come back with leftovers. Service is always prompt and the cozy vibes are nice.
Cool atmosphere. Great staff. Very smoky. Very poor ventilation. It was very cold. Then it was extremely hot. Im guessing they opened a door somewhere to vent the smoke periodically. One huge recommendation to the staff and owners....please please have better descriptions of your dishes and have pictures of your dishes. Some pekora were amazing and some were undercooked and cold. Some needed salt. No salt or pepper on the tables. Drinks were fun and overpriced. Food was delicious for the most part. Cheers.
Bhimas Warung is an absolute gem of a restaurant. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with the warmest of welcomes and the most mouthwatering aromas. Their fusion cuisine is unlike anything Ive ever had before - every dish is bursting with flavor and prepared with the utmost care and attention to detail. The drinks are just as unique and delicious as the food, making for a truly one-of-a-kind culinary experience. While it may be a bit pricier than some other options, its completely worth it for special occasions or anytime you want to treat yourself to an unforgettable meal. Bhimas Warung has been a favorite of mine for years and I cant recommend it enough - its no wonder theyve been in business for so long!
Super expensive food but such great quality! Employees are friendly and helpful. The inside is very nice! Which surprised me given what it looks like on the outside. Another must eat.
We have had wonderful experiences every time we dine at Bhimas Warung! The food and atmosphere are fantastic and it is always a special night out.
In my opinion, best restaurant in town. Best food, amazing service. Wow.
Food is absolutely outstanding! Portions are more then generous and its worth every penny. Recommended without reservation
Came here for a my girlfriend s birthday last year (pre-covid) and the food did not disappoint. High quality ingredients with unique dishes and flavours. Food felt high-end with a very relaxed interior. The customer service was excellent as well! We got our leftovers to-go and they packaged it in some tin foil that was beautifully wrapped in the shape of a swan.
We ordered online and had a fantastic take home meal for our wedding anniversary. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food was packaged in containers that kept the food hot and could be recycled. We had the tenderloin and the duck and both were outstanding! We would have preferred to dine at Bhimas but obviously that is not an option right now. Well Done Bhimas Warung! Thank you!
Bhimas ruined our Mothers Day dinner! We ordered and payed online at 4pm for 6:15pm pickup and on my way there, at 6:05pm, I get a call saying that due to a computer error our order wouldnt be ready until 8:30pm. Wayy to late! No apologies or attempt take any responsibility. Just blaming the computer for everything and then hung up the phone. We had to call back to ask for and get our refund. For a restaurant that prides themselves on their quality of food their service need some serious attention. Get it together Bhimas, this is unacceptable behavior!
Had take out for an anniversary meal. Food was exceptional as always and travelled home well. Delicious - thank you
The best restaurant in the tri-city. Amazing food , service, and atmosphere.
Excellent.
Overpriced and foods served slow.
Perfect, from beginning to the end
If youre asian and eat this food, youre going to be really disappointed. Its basically a less flavourful thai food at 5x the cost. The waiters were nice but they only accept cash which is WILD since its 50 dollar/dish
It was overpriced BLEND inauthentic Vietnamese food. CASH-ONLY but still takes $100 per person, seems like a scam to avoid taxes. TRICKS EVERY NEW STUDENT DONT WASTE UR MONEY
The food is incredible.
This is by far my favorite local restaurant. Always amazing food and service, a true local gem
Great flavours, fancy prices not accessible for everyone/every occasion
I was expecting a bowl of hot beef pho, but get something else equally delicious
Amazing food and great place for special occasions!
Excellent food, ambiance. Took a star off because payment was cash or debit. They should disclose that they do not take credit cards.
Terrible food. Bland, overcooked and a bad combination of ingredients. Also dont forget that they only take Debit/Cash which is very odd for a restaurant pricing their items around $30-40. Avoid at all costs, you could get much better Asian food at nearby restaurants.
Service was terrible, the waitress didnt even know we were there. The food was even worse, being bland and flavorless. Prices are very expensive for the quality of food you get, they also only accept debit/cash so be aware of that. I would avoid at all costs, would not come back
blend and overcooked. service was terrible as well, I heard waitress say that the cook was unvaxxed. \\\
Every single visit is a trip down flavour town! Flavour, presentation, and service are all top notch. One of Waterloos best food destinations. Period.
Definitely not worth the money. Dont recommend at all.
I d love to give an honest review based on their food, but this one is based on service. They have gone beyond and above what s expected from a temporary mandate, and I cannot even go on a patio to try their food. This is coming from a business who also criticizes others for breaking rules, but they turn around and break the law themselves. Pro tip: You can t make your own mandates just stick to what they tell you.
Some of the BEST dining & service in KW!! Incredible flavours, safe & comfortable dining room, charming & accommodating Service & Staff!! Must must MUST dine here! Support all the local small businesses that you can!
2 out of 3 dishes we ordered were underwhelming and bland. The casserole that came with the cornish hen was not cohesive with the rest of the dish, and the appetizer potato salad just didnt have much flavour. I am not one to pile sauce on my food, but both dishes would have benefited from at least a little more sauce. Mango margherita was fantastic and duck in the goreng was nicely cooked. wanted to love this place but was unfortunately disappointed for the price paid.
Excellent food and staff was very nice. A bit slow but the food is prepared fresh so very worth the wait!
This place blows my socks off. They are all round amazing. The staff are fantastic and the chef and cooks are remarkably accommodating. Eating vegan here is a breeze, and the staff will make sure you get a unique meal offering on occasion when they are less busy to cook off menu. What a fantastic adventure. Getting to try new flavors and textures every time. The menu is fairly pricy but you get excellent service, a unique experience flavourful and texture wise, and generous portions. Its always a treat to eat a Bhimas. Also, if you get take out or a doggy bag they package you food into the coolest tinfoil swan!
Very tasty. Great service. A bit more fusion-y than I like, but it was a great meal by which to celebrate an anniversary.
If I was to provide feedback Id say that this place is average. The food is good but in my opinion, over priced. I enjoyed my meal but I wouldnt ever go back. For a place that charges $40.00 a plate, Id suggest you clean the cobwebs and dead bugs off of your lights and shelves, its every where.
Amazing place! Delicious food, great service, and so tasty food!
Went with the family (7 ppl) for my brother s birthday. Got the family style menu which included a nice variety of appetizers and then an absurd quantity of excellent entrees. The baby back ribs, rib eye and monkfish risotto were highlights. Good cocktails, very reasonable wine list, top notch service. This place is really great and I ll happily come back again.
Our family of 8 people dined last night for our sons 38th bday. Service was exceptional. We never felt rushed. Food was truly amazing with flavours that accented high quality. Highly recommend this dining experience. We will be returning for sure. Thank you everyone for a great evening.
My friend and I ordered a duck dish and a sea food plate for mean course, we also had a pork shrimp rice roll for appetizer. Not recommending at all. Dishes looked good but tasted normal, not delicious and were way overpriced. The drinks were fine, but wont come back again.
One of the best meals Ive ever had! It has a cozy vibe and excellent food.
Very fancy and pretty pricey but definitely worth it because the food is just impeccable.
4 years ago I gave this restaurant 5/5. Unfortunately as time has gone by and countless dinners here at this place and thousands of dollars being spent here the service has continually gotten horrendous and my most recent dinner will be my last at bhimas as well as any other restaurant owned by the owner Paul. From the servers attitudes being atrocious and rude. Service was not up to par by any means and the food being served both its taste and quality have been declining year by year and this dinner was the last straw - when you lay a bill close to 800$ each time there is a set expectation that should be meet, yet bhimas as a whole has failed on this account several times. Both at the service level and the management level. The server we had came around to us maybe 4 times over the course of 3 hours ? Okay fine we ll deal with that, yet the food comes out mediocre from the last times we ve been - because they were closing ? We made the reservation a few days in advance and they were aware. But the most frustrating thing was at the end of the service we pay our bills, my sisters choose to pay with credit and tip with cash and the waiter looks at just the receipt and YELLS at my sisters about the lack of tip.. but if he took 5 seconds to look at the table he would see his tip there and some. Mind you I personally tipped well above what was expected nonetheless the disrespectful stride persists. So of course I send an email to the owner, his response: absurd and really too bad pandemic stresses us out . All I can say is horrible excuse - if anything the pandemic should make you shine in both service and customer relations yet this was not the case. 1/5 if I could give 0 I would. From a gem in the Waterloo region to a dud.
Great experience, great food, friendly service!
Very unique dining experience. The food quality and selection is superb.
