Nice homestyle meals with generous helpings (or a half size version if you prefer). The selection of in-house desserts is amazing! Potato croquettes are delicious when they have them! Friendly staff and always interesting decor!

Great home cooked food, plentiful servings, friendly staff, wonderful baked goods. Nice spot to grab a good meal in a casual environment. My Dad noted the liver and onions was the best he had in a long time.

Awesome home cooked meals

Almost a decade ago I was introduced by my partner who frequents this establishment for his lunch staff meetings, and we have had cute lunch dates there, and now occasionally we take the kids. lol Great comfort food (grilled cheese with bacon anyone?), amazing baked goods, solid portions at affordable prices...you dont leave hungry, thats for sure. Its exactly what I wanted this family restaurant to be, and still is. It reminds me of my childhood up north and the family restaurants we enjoyed. Dietary restrictions: I have allergies, they are very conscientious. Not one issue in almost a decade.

Cant comment on the food, they wouldnt seat us. First it was no availble tables then it was we need a reservation. Then Said they were having a private event, in the middle of the week , but door was open, hours posted on the door, Im pretty sure u have to be a certain color to eat in the restaurant. Sad because it was right beside my childhood home. Was feeling nostalgic while I was in town. I guess the rumors I heard when I was a kid came true.

This is my default breakfast spot and it never disappoints. Wonderful people, food and prices everytime I visit. This is a gem.

Good food and service

First time going and immediately felt like I belonged fantastic service, kind and generous and fast too. I never felt rushed or pressured and it felt like being at home. I ordered the coconut cream pie (while yes a little pricy) but without a doubt it was the best piece of coconut cream pie I have ever had in my life (to which I have eaten a lot). It was full of flavour the texture was perfect and the crust was wonderful. It was a great size too at least double of what other restaurants would give. Overall I want to thank the staff and the chefs and I will certainly be coming back!

The interior does not have a homely atmosphere, it feels sort of dingy. I ordered the liver and onions, the gravy tasted off and the liver was very bland. I want to like this place, the people working there seem nice, but it has room to improve

Reliable and regular stop for breakfast. I usually get tempted by their cookies and baked goodies when I am at the till.

The food is excellent diner style, but it is the desserts that are over the top. The service is so-so, and the decore needs a significant update. It is fun how they decorate for the holidays, though. Kid-friendliness: Its definitely a family restaurant.

I was very disappointed with the services in the diner. My mother and I were seated right away to a table however we waited almost 10 min and still, no one even bothered to asked us for our drinks. I work as a server myself and the fact that not even the other servers or host offered to start us with anything even if the other server is busy was disappointing. There was another server who informed us that the server was coming but we just sat there in the middle of the room and it was obvious that we were being neglected. It was only when we decided to leave that the server finally acknowledged us. I felt bad for leaving but I think that if the server assign to us is busy, another server or host should step up so that the customer is not feeling neglected. We ended up going to Sunset Grill and even though they were busy, we were served within minutes.

Crazy busy, loud, waitress tried but it was 40 mins before we got our (delicious) food. She was great... kitchen was horribly backed up. Willing to *maybe* try again, the front staff were friendly and personable.

Ordered delivery. The food was inedible unfortunately. The schnitzel was very thin and over cooked, like shoe leather. The mashed potatoes and gravy were awful. The sausage for the breakfast had no flavour. For some reason everything had a slightly sour taste to it, I cannot begin to imagine why. $50 of food for two plates we just couldnt force ourselves to eat it. The coleslaw was good however.

Ive only been living in Waterloo for a few weeks, and Ive already come to eat here five times, so if that isnt a kind of endorsement in and of itself, I dont know what is. The food is quite good, and the servers are quite friendly and attentive. It can get quite busy, even on weekdays, but Ive never had to wait to be seated. Would definitely recommend to anyone desiring a classic diner experience. EDIT: Been living in Waterloo about half the time for a year and a half now.l, and this place is still my go to, and I go at least once a week when Im here, usually. Great food, kind service, and really good prices.

Homestyle Diner is like coming home to Moms cooking, in Moms dinning room. The staff are great people, and eager to ensure you have a great meal, and the specials are just that, special. The value is good, and please remember to pick up some cookies on the way out, theys awesome! This place is my go-to when I just cant face making breakfast (or Ive run out of food in the fridge), but theyre also a good place to escape for a coffee and read for a bit.

Terrible costumer service, female server completely ill-treated a bunch of brown students, and then proceeded to rant to another set of costumers about the situation in their presence. Owner was nice but the server was unapologetic and behaved pathetically.

What can I say about home style diner, this has to be one of my favourite breakfast places - as soon as you walk in you are greeted with friendly and prompt staff and a cozy atmosphere. Once sat you can count on your servers to always greet you with a smile, efficiency and extremely friendly, The food - what can I say, I have NEVER been more satisfied, the pickle grilled cheese ... MY Favourite! One thing I also really like is that the owners Craig and Denise always find the time to walk around and greet their customers when they can! Its always a nice touch when owners appreciate their customers. You will never be disappointed with home style diner! Keep up the great work everyone! Also shout out to Jenny! Stopped by last weekend for a quick breakfast ... wasnt disappointed. Very friendly staff, large selection at reasonable prices, and service was quick and accurate. Will definitely return, and next time Ill bring my girls with me. February 18, 2024 update ... food is tasty and plentiful, the atmosphere had a welcoming diner feel to it, and the service was amazing. My server (I do not her name) was very polite and helpful, and she brought out my food with a smile. She took my order, and my food came out just like I ordered, very professional service. Homestyle is one of the better diners in this part of Waterloo. Ill be back, and you should give them a try.

We came here for lunch after a horrible experience at another restaurant nearby. Homestyle Diner certainly made everything better. Great food and fantastic service. Im not in the area often but, when I am, this place will be getting a return visit.

Great people and delicious food .

A true home style cooking restaurant. They make everything themselves, including the gravy. And it all tastes delicious. I have eaten here lots of times for more than 10 years, and have left satisfied every time. Service is always friendly and efficient. And I love that they offer smaller portions as well. Atmosphere is a large room, with 4-chair round tables as well as a banquette with rectangular tables along the full length of one wall. I definitely recommend Homestyle if youre hankering home-made, good-for-you food, away from home .

Went here for a Pre-Christmas late luncheon ... restaurant was nicely decorated for the holidays, the waiter was super (friendly, accommodating, helpful & courteous), the food was yummy and the portions filling. Definitely recommend!!

Went for lunch with a group of friends that meets monthly, at different diners. The service was excellent with the exception that there were only 2 servers for a busy lunch crowd. However, despite that the service was delivered by friendly, professional staff with a smile and a kind word. All members of my group said that their meals were excellent and hot when served. Stopped here when visiting Waterloo. Had a 2 egg breakfast with pancakes and bacon. Delicious! Bacon was thick, pancakes small but cooked perfect and toast was tasty. Truly a 5 star review!!

My wife swears by the regular schnitzel & chips. She doesn t normally like coleslaw, but she likes it here (so do I). Myself, I go for fish & homefries, both broiled & battered. If you love moist dressing, then the rolled ribs on Thurs/Friday after 4pm are too much food even when I haven t eaten & am very hungry - feels like Christmas dinner at Grandma s, especially if you for for the mashed potatoes with beef gravy.

Delicious wrap! I got the crispy chicken and it was so yummy! The fries were perfect and I was excited about the pickle ^_^ The portion was perfect and maybe even a bit big for me! I really enjoyed the cheese flavour you get when you bite into it! Also had the cauliflower soup which was good! Our server was very sweet and paid attention to detail. Without us asking she brought over a container for our left overs (: I absolutely will be coming back !! Lots of cute elderly couples here hehe

My daughter and I had omelets. My husband had the eggs benedict, and my son got a hamburger. Our omelets were stuffed with meat and cheese. Im pretty sure that the hollandaise sauce was homemade. This is the best breakfast we have had in a very long time, this our new place to eat.

This restaurant has NO consistency in quality of food being cooked!!. I ordered from Uber Eats today July 5th at 3pm. I track my orders. Today my bacon was burnt, my ham on my eggs Benedict was over fried and tough. My poached egg was hard. I called the restaurant and politely asked for the manager, I was told no but a VERY AGGRESSIVE WAITRESS!! Stated I just received my Uber order, and asked if it was a new cook on today, then explained my issue. She got really rude and defensive, and STATED THE UBER DRIVER WAS LATE. Which was not the case on the app tracking. The restaurant said the order would be ready at 3:24 and the driver was there at 3:20. And the food was delivered at 3:24. This waitress is blaming the poor driver instead of taking owner ship.was blatantly ignorant. The first time I tried this restaurant the Waitress saw how brutal my food was made and refunded my money, she said to give it a try another time and that it s always been great food on the weekends. Which I did, and she remembered me and it was awesome. The owner was awesome the next time I went in. Unfortunately, I will no longer support this local business. And have gave all the pictures to Uber and the phone recording to them. People need to own this mistakes and not blame others!!! I would never allow employees in my company to lie and get someone else s job to be jeopardized. Own it, learn from it and move on to being better at your job.

A great little place

I had some homefries and Suasage. They were all disgusting. The homefries were all really crispy and the sausage was soggy, and uncooked. I also I found two strands of hair in my food and was not mine or my mothers. Highly disappointed. we didnt get asked how our food was once.

My friends and I were looking for a brunch place after a camping weekend. I called 1 hour prior and asked if they could accommodate 20 people and they said they could! Which was amazing :)! The food was delicious, service was fast and the server was so friendly. Definitely recommend!

Homestyle Dinner never disappoints. Everything is always good.

Weve eaten here a few times over the years and had 3.5-4 star experiences, but not on our most recent visit. It took a while before our order was taken. We didnt mind the wait for our food to be prepared; hopefully that means theyre taking their time to do a good job. The home fries, bacon and toast were fine, and they were generous with the jam, but the eggs werent my definition of scrambled, they were only lukewarm, and they tasted stale/old. Service and atmosphere were fine overall.

I love Homesyle Diner. I had a deluxe burger that had enough bacon for two breakfasts. I ordered an extra patty on my homemade burger, and I couldnt open my mouth wide enough to take a bite. I bought a container of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies to go home with that will not last long. Delicious!!! I would recommend this family run restaurant to anyone.

One of my favourite places for when I want comfort food. My current obsessions are the meatloaf grilled cheese and crispy chicken ceasar wrap. They taste like pure happiness. This restaurant is one of those places that grows familiarly on you. The food is always highly flavourful and the variety of offerings could be daunting at times! Regardless, the food is of a high quality. The service is always friendly. Ask for Jenny or Lois. When leaving, browse the well stocked pie showcase. They are always fresh and the taste is impeccable. This place is a must visit when in Waterloo.

We were visiting St. Jacobs and it was getting late so we decided to look for a nice place to eat. My girlfriend checked the area and found this place on the internet. Ratings were good so we figured why not. This is one of those out of the way in a plaza small restaurants that you would probably just drive by but it turned out to be a great choice. Food was delicious and prices were good. Service was good. Next time were in the area this will be our go to restaurant.

I dined in today with my friend and had an incredibly disappointing experience because of our server. The other servers appeared much warmer, so I hope this is a one-off experience. We were seated before three other tables, with all of us being served by the same server. Despite this, the server went to the three other tables first before coming to serve us ten minutes later, and making eye contact with me while she was serving another table (perhaps because we resemble university students?). When ordering, I was spoken to differently than my friend and interrupted when trying to describe what I wanted. Note that English IS my first language yet I was spoken to as if it wasnt and that my sentences needed to completed by the server. When the three other tables had finished eating, we received our food. The food was acceptable, but cold, perhaps because it was sitting there for a while. I can only think that it became cold during the servers explanation of their new leg tattoo to the table beside us, while we were still waiting to order. While eating, we did not receive the same hospitality as other tables, or even one inquiry about how our food tasted. To finish it all off, the server told us our bill was waiting at the front, despite every other table having their bill brought to them. Overall, Im unsure if this is just how younger people are treated by this server, or if it was my own appearance (i.e., Asian). Despite coming here several times before, I can say now I will never come here again. I would not recommend this place if you are young or a POC.

A FIVE-STAR diner!!! Fast, friendly, attentive service! The food is absolutely fabulous! The liver melts in your mouth and full of flavour! Onion rings are the best I ve had in years! So good we went back for brunch the next day which was just as good! And it s spotless! THANK YOU!!!

A cozy little diner just a short jaunt from where I was staying that offered a warm atmosphere, delicious food, and incredible service. Stepping in, we were greeted with the sight of all the deserts available at the diner before being offered seating. The waitress was kind and friendly as she took our order and chatted along with us for a time. Wed gotten poutine, loaded garlic bread, a very delicious reuben sandwich, and hot turkey. By the end of it, we were stuffed.

I have been going here for years and it is one of the best breakfast places in KW.

Had a lovely dinner out with a relative we havent been able to see in a LONG while. We went to the Homestyle Diner in Waterloo. I havent beeen there in ages. My relative had the honey garlic ribs with a side of potatoes, coleslaw, and cooked carrots. She said the ribs were perfect. I had turkey dinner, white meat, with mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw and cooked carrots. The turkey was succulent, not dry at all, even before having gravy on it. My son had a Homestyle burger which he devoured. I feel places like this can be overlooked as they have an old-school classic menu, things I remember my mom and grandparents making for us here in Kitchener, but this is exactly why you should go! Their menu has excellent variety to suit everyone. Oh, and dessert was DIVINE! Relative had coconut cream pie (HUGE piece), and my son and I shared a delicious warm brownie with ice cream and whipped cream. Definitely still a great! Very friendly service! Parking: Lots of parking in front of the diner, and in the larger mini-mall lot. Kid-friendliness: Nice kids menu. Wheelchair accessibility: Relatively accessible (no stairs), although automatic doors would help.

If youre looking for your next go to breakfast joint, look not further. Incredibly reasonable price on their breakfast specials for so much food that it needed two plates! Bacon, ham, and sausage were all of exceptional quality, non of that processed junk here. We will be back!
