59 King St N, Waterloo, ON N2J 2X2, Canada
Lion Brewery’s outpost in a former hotel combining a restaurant, coffee shop, pub & live jazz venue.
We have been coming to the Huether Hotel for years in beautiful Uptown Waterloo. There is plenty of free parking in a nearby parking lot for the weekend. The menus were dirty and damaged; it would be far better if they were laminated so the stains can be cleaned. Their Legendary Wings are absolutely fantastic! The hot sauce definitely had heat but more importantly flavour. The Dry Cajun rub seasoning was absolutely fantastic! The Caesar Salad tasted good but is nothing special because the dressing is store bought. The same can be said for their fries and onion rings. Their Stroganoff Schnitzel was absolutely delicious; well seasoned but unfortunately they forgot to put the sauekraut on my plate and I didnt notice until after I devoured it. Maintenance needs to be done on some if not all of their chairs because the one we had was very wobbley. The background music was at a perfect level that you could still enjoy it and have a normal conversation. The Huether is an iconic institution in our community and we will continue to support them. If you are looking for good pub food and good atmosphere this is the place for you.
Recently attended the Huether for a performance at the Jazz Room. Waited 90 minutes for my meal to arrive. When it finally did, the food was cold. Sadly, this was not the first time. Had a similar experience earlier this year but decided to give it a second chance. Not again. Mediocre food and lousy service seem to have become the norm.
I’m extremely disappointed by the treatment I received at the cafe. I was the only customer in line, yet the staff member, the older woman with the blonde hair, took a really long time to adress my presence even after seeing me standing there for quite some time and first thing she asked me was if I was with DoorDash, accompanied by a look of clear disgust. As a brown person and a professional in this community, this blatant racial profiling left me feeling deeply disrespected and unwelcome. Racism like this is not only offensive, it’s unacceptable. No one should be judged based on their appearance, and I sincerely hope the management takes immediate steps to address and prevent such behavior moving forward. This was a hurtful experience that will stay with me.
Met up with friends for girls lunch. Had the fish tacos, omg, the best!! Crispy and light, just right amount of toppings, a great deal at $15.00. Fries on the side to share were crisp and light. My friends enjoyed their lunch and our server was pleasant and friendly. I'll be back.
So it has been 18 years since my wife and I went on one of our early dates here. We loved it! It was always one of those things that one of these days when we're back in the KW area we have to go back. Well it finally happened. The service was prompt and friendly. We were even chatting with the owner who happened to be on the patio when we arrived. He told us the story of how it's been in the family for generations and that they have their own brewery. I absolutely loved the Lion Red Ale! The food was delicious too. My wife had the salmon and I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf. The portions were great as well. After all the friendly chit chat he actually gave us a plaque of the Red Ale! I know we'll back soon! Its worth the drive from St. Thomas!!!
Went for lunch at Barley Works and the weather was nice enough to sit outside. The hotel has an elevated patio with a view in Uptown Waterloo. Service was friendly and prompt. Overall, things could be a bit cleaner but it's what you get for the price and setting. Food is decent and goes well with the drinks. I recommend the Italian soda they have right now! The lavender and vanilla one was delicious and refreshing.
We really enjoyed heuther's atmosphere, food selection and customer service! Three people total, a stroganoff and a parmesan schnitzels; also an order of baby back ribs (already half eaten, no photo)! Everyone was quite satisfied and left with food comas. There is more mashed potatoes under the parmesan schnitzel and more sauerkraut under the stroganoff schnitzel. The veggies were tasty and well seasoned
They have everything a student needs! WiFi, outlets and good food. They have a large breakfast menu so I would come here for maybe brunch. The cranberry lemon muffin was served warm (get it with butter) and the we also got the roasted veggie sandwich. Staff was super nice and the place has a nice “vintage hotel” vibe going on. Would definitely come again.
Aftee we got sat by the hostess we ordered drinks to the table... 20 minutes later they never came. Went up to bar to order drinks. Stood there for 15 minutes and nobody offered to help me. So we went home!
Food was amazing, everything is like homemade !!! Play pool here and always have so much fun. And their beer is like no other !! Wuerzburger on top
Probably the worst meal Ive ever gotten from a restaurant, please stay away if you care about yourself.
Ive had good times here for 45years!!holy Kent Batman?? they gave away one our breakfasts took another 20 minutes not OK!!!
Great beer!
I would specifically like to call out Kelly from management and that he is horrid. We had an event in the billiards room, but got moved to The Jazz Room, last minute. The event went well our server was amazing. After the event we were told we had to pay full price for the booking, despite having a different deal promised by a different manager. Event host ended up crying. How heartless!
Very good experience server recommend pretty decent options with goes with our food and food taste very good very friendly staff Vegetarian options: Salad and veg burgers are available Kid-friendliness: Gives the kid drawing pencils and paper
Cafe 1842 operating time and prices are incorrect online. Prices online are lower than reality.
I had a very disappointing experience at Huether Hotel. We could tell our server seemed more interested in gossiping with the bartender than attending to our table. Secondly, I observed the boss treating their staff rudely. It was uncomfortable to witness the mistreatment of servers while dining. The atmosphere was tense and unwelcoming due to these management practices. I hope these issues can be addressed to improve the dining experience for future customers. Personally, I won t be coming back.
This is specific to the cafe on the first floor and not the bar on the second floor. Ive found that the baristas are generally quite bland and unfriendly (basic customer service skills such as being welcoming and friendly banter seem to be a lost art in this cafe and in most cafes unfortunately, or perhaps owners dont hold those skills as importantly as they should) Aside from that, the cafe is really dark. They need to change the lightbulbs, do a paint job and update the decor. Brighter lights will attract more clientele who peek through the window
Service was horrible, you would order drinks , the drinks wouldn t come , you d ask your server they d reply with it s sitting on the bar downstairs I ll be right back 25 minutes later , still no drink , ask again oh yeah it s still on the bar I m busy we had a very large group , who wanted to order lots of food and drinks but unfortunately every time we tried to order the order was either wrong or didn t come at all. People got charged for drinks that were made wrong and did not consume , server said I can still charge you because the drink was drinkable we asked to see the manager the manager said what do you expect me to do? I use to absolutely love love love this place now I m embarrassed I ever raved about it or recommended it to family and friends. Servers were rude and disrespectful. Food was also not the same as it once was, the chicken wings use to be absolutely amazing, massive and super saucy .. wings this time around super small dry and over priced. More disappointed in the attitude we received when we asked questions as to why it was taking 30-35 minutes to get a drink. This was a large going away party, no cutlery was set out or water on the tables ( we booked reservations for 30+ people) simple courtesy/good service I guess doesn t exist there anymore. We were all also refused service when we tried to go to the bar to open and close a tab just for one drink since our server couldn t handle our orders , the bartender replied with you have a server , I m not taking your order we don t really do that again this was an amazing spot 2 years ago , now stay away !
Server was on her phone the whole time, five feet away from our table. Has no respect for her job she should be terminated. Platinum blonde dud :(
Great food, servers are very friendly and helpful. Best Patio in town. Emily is the best bartender and server
The ambience of the place is really awesome, I tried the Bacon Burger which was 10/10. The service was excellent and quick. Overall, the experience was spectacular.
My family loves coming to The Huether for wings! It was a great time!
I always have a great experience dining at the Huether. Food is huge portions and reasonably priced, always served with a nice smile and pleasant mood. I love the vibe I get , I really think the Huether is a Waterloo gem for sure!!!
Emily is such a sweetheart!! Ive been coming here for years. Huge patio and many pool tables inside! Food : 5/5
Great food, great people, great times!
Don t usually write reviews but our server Emily went above and beyond! Super sweet and gave us the best experience :)
Hosted a retirement party - location was perfect and the staff was so accommodating and attentive. Looking forward to hosting other events there in the future and their wings are the best in town!
We celebrated my daughters 25th birthday at the Huether. The staff and management were very helpful, accommodating and informative. And the suggested pizza selections were a huge success and very delicious A special thank you to Emily for helping us co-cordinate the best 25th birthday my daughter could ask for Kelly D Food
Had fun and love the schnitzel! Emily was excellent!
Live jazz courtesy of clefs of mohar( tim ) and band.worth the drive to waterloo!! Didnt have food. Bar service was slow considering I was sitting AT the bar! Parking: I parked at the library.a walk in the cold with strong winds.
Local history and lovely Lager! Today I purchased Lion Lager from the brewery and upon leaving I was thanked for my business by Sonia. I let Sonia know that I love the beer and the history behind it, as I am currently teaching students at a local highschool about the prohibition era. Sonia immediately brought me upstairs and told me a bit about of the history of her business. Not only did she share her story, but she gifted me a flyer highlighting the story of her families ownership of the Huether and a limited print of a painting she did of the site back in 1993. I appreciate her taking the time to teach me about the Adlys story and providing me with amazing hospitality. I will be a regular visitor forever!
Kimberly was so great and really turned our night around! Thanks for the great customer service!
Servers were horrible. Good was just okay. We made reservations as we went with a group and they messed up everyone s bills. 2 servers for our group so they doubled everyone s bills. After talking with manager she said what would you like me to do ? We will never EVER go back. This was our first and last time there.
We were visiting Waterloo to celebrate our sons 21st bday and decided to have lunch at Huether Hotel. We spoke to Sonja at the front who lead us upstairs to the dining area. We had an excellent lunch and then complimented with a slice of bday cake, on the house. As sincere thank you to Sonja and hotel staff who made our visit with our son a wonderful experience. Brian
In case it s difficult to find the Huether Hotel and Café 1842 are the same place. Favourite place to study. It s hit the sweet spot of being warm + welcoming, not too loud but not too quiet, and nice beverages (their matcha isn t too bad). They offer both breakfast and lunch/dinner dishes which is a plus too! It s also just a fun place to explore a bit when you need a break. The building itself is so beautiful and adds to the overall ambiance. The building has been operating since 1842 (hence the name) initially as a brewery with the later addition of a hotel. There s no use in my describing it so you better just go check it out yourself My favourite part is the people here. The workers as well as the customers who come here are very friendly and always up for a chat. Alsoooooo, if you come at the right time you get the treat of some amazing jazz thanks to the adjacent Jazz Room! They often have events and open mics there which you can hear in this café.
Perfect for a holiday dine.
Worst cinnamon latte I have ever had.used to be good before but the quality of the latte is very poor nowadays .Customer service is pathetic . The two young girls at the counter doesn t know how to make the latte and they are very rude too.
Always a lovely time at the Jazz Room. Food is great, staff is outstanding, thank you!
Its an ok place for a game of pool, beer and greasy wings
My friends and I ordered the fish and chips tonight. What arrived was what appeared to be a long piece of fish but cutting into it, it was mostly batter with very little fish inside. My friend gave up on the final end piece of his fish due to overcooking and dryness. Twice we had to ask for clean drinking glasses and we had to hail someone down to serve our table. Very disappointing.
I had a terrible experience at this restaurant, and unfortunately, its not the first time. I ordered a gluten-free pizza, but they gave me a regular pizza instead, which made me very sick. A few years ago, I had a similar experience when they gave me a regular burger bun instead of a gluten-free one. On top of that, my girlfriends chicken buffalo wrap had a bone in it that almost broke her tooth. Its clear that the restaurant is not taking proper precautions when it comes to food safety and quality. The restaurant might have been good 30 years ago, but thats no excuse for the poor service and lack of attention to detail now. The place is run down, and it wouldnt be a surprise if they go out of business. Im never going back, and Im disappointed that I had to write a bad review, but it really upset me that they made me sick twice.
superb
Amazing place! Great cafe for spending time with your friends and family, as well as to do your work while you are enjoying a delicious latte. Different events in the weekend, playing pool, and enjoying the bar are also making this place a gem in the uptown Waterloo.
Good enough service, mediocre coffee and tea. Espresso drinks and steamed creations are ok. The breakfast, however, is fantastic. Comfy enough and a kind regular crowd. Very busy poolhall, loud place.
Good atmosphere and patio is great.
Blah food.
Server was amazing and the food salad and wings best in town luved our quiet afternoon at the pub we ll be back...Emily was amazing ...and has been everytime we visit
Great lattes and a pretty fantastic classic breakfast.
Cafe 1842 has to be one of the best cafes in Uptown Waterloo. A great variety of food a drink options and a friendly staff make this a great place to go when you want a really cafe vibe. Cheers.
Excellent food, excellent music
I like visiting Huether for work great environment. You can purchase decent food while you work. My experience with a girl I asked for help I believed her name was Emily at the bar inquiring for further Jazz info however she was super blunt while speaking to me. I noticed that with another girl London the girls choose who they want to be nice to as a customer I would advise to be more friendly. I say this because the girl totally ignored a kind comment of encouragement when spoken to a few times thinking maybe she did not hear it yet the girl continues to have convo with other customers. Now I dont know what the reason maybe to this thing but I feel that they treat Caucasian people better. There are other girls and worker who are so kind with big smile on their face and will talk to you to answer any questions honestly even make better coffee. Overall as a customer I would appreciate better service as well as friendliness.
I got drinks/apps with my friend tonight. 45 minutes to 1 hour go by and our food doesnt arrive. Call someone over to get our waitress. Waitress (girl with blonde hair) comes over and asks if we still wanted our food (weird question to ask). I was like yeah I m hungry... Wont be back after this experience.
I ate on the barley works rooftop patio. The atmosphere and service were good, I just found the food terrible versus the price. Small portion sizes for a high bill. Plenty of drink options atleast
Dietary restrictions: lots of options for those with health restrictions! Food
Large family birthday party. Super time. Staff was fantastic. Good beer selection.
It was open mic night. Everybody had a great time. Service
Great place to hang out, read, study, or just eat.
Cute vibes great study spot and amazing drinks!
Food was great, staff was polite, and atmosphere was very enjoyable!
Great patio and good location. Small parking lot under the patio is available otherwise fine a spot on the street. Oh ya, and the pizza is amazing.
The wing special was a great deal, delicious and actually more food than I could finish! Our server was Andrew and he was so helpful and polite.
I came with friends and it was pretty awesome! Our waiter, Andrew, was really hospitable and cool. All the food tasted good as well! I got pirogies and a side of fries. I recommend here!
I love the drinks at cafe 1842. Always my go to place for coffee and breakfast.
Great coffee, always a great meal, nice patio, friendly service, good menu. Been around a long time and never disappoints!
Coffee on the street early in the morning. Top shelf customer service....all positive Food
Great staff and kitchen crew whom put alot of care into food and servers and make you feel like a valuable Customer! The best home fires in the 3 ctiys not to be missed ! Great atmosphere to dinning in as well Food : 5/5
Cafe used to be better before COVID1. Menu revamp not quite as good value, but its the best big brunch you can get til 4pm. Often its impossible to get an espresso drink made the way you want (even using common coffee ordering language). Americano w/1 cream became a cappuccino with a lot of sugar. 1 caf/1 decaf double espresso became a huge Americano watered down with a shot of cream in it. Atmosphere in the cafe is awesome though due to the beautiful room (though they painted the tin ceiling!) The building is super cool, walk around a bit.
The Huether Hotel is an institution. Unlike other older establishments that undergo ownership changes and renovations, The Huether is a continuously-operated beauty of a local watering hole. My one criticism of this place over the years was the size of their menu - it just set you up for a mediocre meal. No matter how good the food was, there were bound to be 2 or 3 things you wished you ordered instead. I was impressed to see their menu has been whittled down to all of their best items. I had a schnitzel and washed it down with a Lions Light, it was amazing. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. We stayed for a couple games of pool, talked about how good the food was, and that we are definitely coming back. Parking: Park close by and walk over if possible. There is parking, but it is not for the faint of heart.
Love the Eggs Benedict
So disappointing~ ordered the cheese, bacon grilled burger, and caesar salad I d had it last year when visiting Waterloo, and loved it!~ hence, anticipating the same good quality Shocked when delivery ordered arrived late, not even warm~ but OK, I ve got a microwave the **worst **was it was a Mc Donald s burger, Mcdonald s salad . bad. ~beyond disappointed. Manager s only recourse was to address it with delivery company? .. they? cooked the food??? other people I spoke on phone with to address this were very kind, helpful~ but, the manager s solution was unsatisfactory, inferior to anything I ve encountered at Heuther s before . an expensive McD meal
Amazing service from Charlotte I love her she was so nice!
Very nice spot to study in the morning. I love the historical details, it gives it something different than your average cafe in uptown. Staff were friendly and quick. The only thing was the food was quite pricey for what you got
Great food, beer, darts, and pool. Staff are also very attentive to groups with kids Kid-friendliness: Staff were very attentive to our group with kids
Parking: There are a whole bunch of free parking lots near the restaurant Food
We came to book a table for Friday night celebrations and when we arrived we took about 90s to order. The server and bartender came back 10 minutes later to tell us they wouldn t serve us. They told we took too long to order, indicating that they wouldn t serve us because they thought we had already had too many drinks. This was after seeing us quietly talking for 10 minutes. They then told us to leave when we argued with them. This is a terrible business that our group will not ever come back to.
It s a running joke within our friend group that the service is awful here. Servers themselves aren t *terrible* but the establishment is grossly understaffed very frequently. Tonight was the second time in the last year that I ve had to walk out after 15 minutes due to being seated and no servers even offering water/taking drink orders. It s disappointing as I enjoy going but now I can t even convince my wife to go there because the service is so bad.
Bernie was a fantastic host, great atmosphere. Would highly recommend for drinks and food
CUtest
We ordered 2 drinks and a fries. The first drink came with the fries after 1 hour, the second drink took another half hour. Unbelievably slow. Since I m writing a review anyway, I rented out the Jazz room in 2019 for an event and the manager was very rude. He wanted to kick out members of our group because they weren t ordering from the bar, despite the agreement being that we could have anyone we wanted there when we rent out the whole facility. Never rented from them again and would not recommend anyone to.
Multi level brew pub with great brews, reliable tasty pub fare and a friendly, energetic staff.
Great place
Fun place to play pool!
love the cafe here - my personal favourite is their matcha latte! the nice girl with the long, brown hair is always so helpful and friendly. such a cozy spot to come in for a nice coffee and read a book :)
Excellent service and great food. Will return again for sure.
CAFE 1842 Review -- Ive always raved about this place and the amazing Eggs Benedict! Today Im hoping was just a one-off FAIL. =( Got there around 1pm to have a late brunch. Ordered our meals, I asked for latkes instead of homefries and she had no idea what I was talking about. Oh Well, Menu changed at some point I guess....Ill survive Sat in the 2nd room and there was a fairly obvious leak from the ceiling. Pretty rude so we just moved a few seats down and didnt really mention it. The food took ages but thats ok, we tried to be patient. The 3 eggs Benies were a mixture of over medium and WELL DONE =( almost no hollandaise sauce as well. After my coffee, the bottom of my cup was quite gritty.... Overall, not pleasant at all and at those prices expect MUCH better. Hope they go back to their great quality/service if we ever return
Nice and cozy place with a free Wi-Fi where you can work by the window and look at King Street.
Great place to play pool with friends. Terrific service and prices.
Placed a delivery order, buy an item was missing! Doesn t help when you order for 2 people at night and receive food for 1person!
Just moved uptown Waterloo. Was very upset as I had heard good things about the patio. My fiancé and I were seated on the patio and waited 20 minutes and still had no one come to our table. Literally walked out as we were very disappointed with the service.
We have been coming to this establishment for YEARS!!! (35+!) Live music, patio, great servers, fabulous food! But last night I believe was our last. Im not entirely sure what makes Kelly think it is ok to yell and belittle his employees with customers eating right in front of you! My husband took his meal to go he was so bothered he couldnt eat! How disheartening! We loved the Hueth! #bekind #justbeniceok
I just love the fact that they let someone from downtown Kitchener visit uptown Waterloo it makes me feel special and important like Im sure all of the people feel in uptown Waterloo God bless their little cotton socks.
The Huether Hotel has become one of my favourite places to go to in Uptown with there being so many amenities to enjoy such as pool, the cafe, jazz room, etc. However, I was really disappointed to see that I was not able to have a meal there as there is no vegan menu, let alone any vegan options on their current menu. This is very bothersome for me as I would like to enjoy ALL of the facilities they have to offer, especially something like dining. All they suggested was to remove the cheese or other dairy products, but this takes so much away from the meal itself. I would highly encourage the Huether to add vegan options to their menu making it a place for everyone to enjoy. I know many vegans who would support the business if having these options. I hope the owner would consider this request as it is important to me as someone who would like to continue going.
The Staff is some of the most friendly staff around. The bartender Emily is always smiling and friendly. The food is amazing the pork tacos are to die for, compliments to the chefs!!! Also one of the only places around with a pool hall! You must visit the patio!!!
Great service, great food. Fun place to go with friends.
We recently celebrated a birthday at the Hueter Hotel, food was delicious and staff went above and beyond with their delivery of service. I would definitely recommend this venue.
Great service and wonderful meal.
Hit and Miss. We have frequented the Huether over at least nine years, and although it was a go-to for us at the beginning, it has suffered as of lately. The menu was always a strong point, consistent, introducing a new thing now and then, and portion size was quite big. Most of the time, we would have to wait to be seated as it was usually packed. However, starting before the pandemic and certainly gaining speed after, the entire package has deteriorated. Food is okay, but not overly good and it seems, at least, that portions have suffered. And finally, the service has declined, although that may be do to understaffing more than anything else.
They have a good patio for casual meals or drinks. Service is friendly and the food is decent.
This is the most disrespectful unprofessional restaurant Ive ever been to they asked if all my friends were high and that we havent been drinking and we cant eat in the restaurant if we have we were not drinking we had no weed in our systems and I never ordered an alcoholic beverage at the place they now kicked us out made us pay for the food that we didnt get to eat at the restaurant and were yelling at us in front of customers I dont know what else to say but its just ignorant and disrespectful to young folks that are trying to get along in life
My friends and I were kicked out of the and made to pay for food we didn t get and they had said they were going to call the police if we left with out paying even with the fact we didn t get the food. They questioned us about us drinking or smoking and said they won t serve anyone from the event that had drank anything. They had also gotten in our faces and yelled at us for trying to leave
Not as good as its been years past. Although it was a Tuesday night and the server was good, we found the portions a bit stingy the last few times weve been. Nothing special. Tough times still I guess.
Ive probably gone about 3 times a year for nearly a decade, and I must say that the past few years have been very mediocre. Unless its the Schnitzel, the food is nothing special and the prices are so-so. I think if you were looking to dine in Uptown Waterloo there are much more bang-for-your-buck options along King Street.
Cool spot. Avery was our server and shes great <3
Great little spot. Live jazz Fridays and Saturdays.
Pleasant staff and nice outdoor setting, beer was EXCELLENT, but the food, I am afraid was sub-par. We ordered Rueben sandwiches which were dry, had no French dressing or mustard, only a trace of cheese, and about half the meat that usually comes in a Rueben, plus no pickle. The server did bring us mustard and pickles upon request, but it was expensive for what we got and not pleasant to eat. What really irked me was that we explained to our server that the kitchen could look at a youtube video to learn how a Rueben is made (there is a standard recipe for it), and she came back from the kitchen saying it was their spin on it... which is an excuse, and a poor one at that, to cover their ineptness. They really cant call their version a Rueben.
Great place for quick breakfast
The location is super convenient. There was a lot of street parking across the street during the week. They were able to accommodate both their brunch and lunch menu for us. The food was good. The restaurant wasn t busy which was nice. The interior of the cafe is pretty.
Great space to get some work done and enjoy a coffee.
Waterloo region needs more jazzy places like this where people enjoy listening cool jazz and indulge in delicious foods with reasonable prices. Keep up the good job!
Came here with friends to celebrate getting coops and was extremely disappointed with the food. I ordered a burger and it was the driest I ve ever had, tasted like a frozen patty from Costco. Drinks were alright but food was terrible.
Always room. Great food. Reasonable. Cool atmosphere.
It was okay. My friend and I got a light snack here and the drinks were very standard, nothing too amazing. Although, I found my tea to be quite watered down. The spinach dip was standard as well, nothing too special but still a decent spinach dip. I think the drinks were disappointing though.
The cafe used to be one of my favourite study spots uptown. Good coffee and plenty of seating and sockets to charge a laptop. Unfortunately, lately theres these two men that come in and sit down and one of them spews conspiracy theories, very loud and distracting. For example, today he was saying some drivel about how Zelenskyy is sending thousands of civilians to die in a pointless war for the globalists. Hard to study or relax with a guy like that around
A great place to relax
Great spot for a coffee and baked goods. Staff is always pleasant and everything is very tasty. Cafe is a regular stop on walks Uptown Waterloo.
Best place in town
Ordered takeout. Food was quick and delicious. 100% will do this again.
Stopped for lunch. Food was pretty good.
great wings
Genuinely one of the worst establishments Ive ever had the misfortune of encountering. The management are terrible, their food is highly questionable, and they exploit the hell out of their employees to pinch every cent they can. Its too bad that such a cool building with interesting history is owned by them.
Friendly staff
Best chicken wings in town..even great telephone service when ordering out.
Good food good beer. They offer curbside pick up. This is family run business so I am proud to support during these tuff and unfair times. I was served by a nice girl in cafe 1842. They took our order requests and fulfilled them. If they could get honey mustard that would be awesome!
Friendly staff. Fresh tasty food.
I ve ordered their frozen hot chocolate numerous times before and during the pandemic, and it s one of my favourite drinks. As of a few days ago, I ordered the drink again, but is it clear that their quality has drastically declined since the pandemic. Their frozen hot chocolate was around $7, there was no whipped cream, and it was extremely watered down or diluted. This is very disappointing because so many small businesses are trying so hard to maintain their standard / produce even better quality food and drinks during the pandemic, rather than overcharging a watered down drink.
Staff are always friendly and courteous and I enjoy talking with them
Great pizza and wings .
Great friendly service, I have been a loyal customer for 30 years and the food and drinks still keep getting better.
Amazing service! Lost one star because the direction for the flow of people in and out was not great.
Wings were awesome, waitress was awesome, just a fantastic experience! So glad to be back on a patio, and super glad i got to hang out on theirs! If you like watching cars with money wasted on em, fart cans and pop pop tunes, this is the patio! Seriously, so glad your back. Rach, get over it. One out of how many orders gets f***ed? Get off your high horse.
Best experience in a year so far...wings and salad were mint service was stellar and our server was a sweetheart...perfection we ll be back
Excellent service, OK pulled pork. Thanks Ashley!
Unfortunately this establishment would not allow me to sit ON THE PATIO without a mask on, even though I have an exemption. Sad that they are refusing to serve the very people who have been fighting to keep small businesses open this whole time
Found a dry patio on a rainy day. Perfect. Enjoyed food and beer. Good Friday find b
My husband and I came in and got seated. It took 20 minutes with servers passing by us and no recognition at all from anyone. So we left. No one even asked us about drinks. We had to up and leave. This place doesnt even deserve 1 star but I had to give something in order to comment. #hirebetter
had and amazing experience! excellent food and service.
Awesome food got to try following covid restrictions to the T.
Lovely patio with heat option. Lion lager is a must try!
The waitresses are so nice and accommodating.
Great food and a perfect outdoor space!
Checkout their outdoor patio, most of it is covered so its perfectly for the rainy season days.
Great patio, great food, great family = great time! Red beer was fantastic! Best Sangria in town! As always, dinner was great!.
Amazing food and amazing staff.
Love their 50% off their pick up pizza deal! Waffle fries and calamari were very crispy and delicious! Love it, will come back again!
Good beer, service was a little slow.
DO NOT GO HERE, TURN AWAY. WORST patio I ve ever been in Waterloo. I bought the battered cod and only got 1 piece fish which is very little and overpriced and I dipped the fish in the tartar sauce I was given and instantly puked it out as it didn t taste like tartar sauce. I was allergic to cheese and little did I know I was given blue cheese. I told the waitress that this mistake is going to give me an upset stomach and going to puke all night because of this and all she did was LAUGH. So is laughing to an allergy funny? I was so upset at this matter but I was already feeling the gruelling defeat of my stomach and went home. Didn t have time to address this to the manager. But NEVER NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN. Employees finding allergies to be funny, how great of them.
Perfect wings!
Awesome patio, really good cocktails, the pizzas are wood fire, and pretty good
They did not accomodate hearing impaired people who need to lip read while outside on the patio.
Nice night on the patio for wings and drinks.
Bad food, awful ambiance and c mon ppl who puts lettuce on nachos .bad experience drinks were served in regular glassware
Awful food...who put lettuce in nachos
Fantastic local brew house and eatery. Large patio has interesting atmosphere. Food is made with care with good fresh ingredients ie homemade coleslaw not from a pail. We had the fish tacos and schnitzel and local brew. Highly recommended. PS we used to visit heavily here years ago during university days. Nice to see a well run establishment!
The food and cafe are both very average. Lattes are often overly sweet and food is a bit greasy. The outdoor patio however has great rain coverage which is nice
Took over 30 minutes before a waitress came to our table. When I kindly and respectfully mentioned to the staff that we hadnt been served for over half an hour, I received a lot of attitude. After ordering, we still didnt receive out drinks for over 20 minutes. Will not come back.
The cafe has the perfect vibes for getting work done. Theyre ice coffee is also one of the best Ive ever had!
Server ignored me this afternoon while attending pleasantly to my friend who I brought around 4pm Sat Oct 2. She never looked me in the eye, had an irritated tone and ignored only me - from the minute I walked up to the place. And I could tell she gossiped about me to her co workers who would side-eye me as they passed. Warning - rude and preferential treatment here. Filthy toilets covered in blood and dried urine stains, bathrooms look like they havent been cleaned in days. Patio filled with flies and squirrels. The burger bun had no sauce so it was dry as a desert - same with the casear salad. And I was charged an alcohol fee??? Nothings changed in the years since Ive last been here. This service reminded me of why I dont bring anyone here anymore - its a classless spot. Stick to white rabbit, backyard or prohibition.
Did not honor closing times on holiday (update your closing times and you won t get a bad review)
Thought I would leave a review. Due to the pandemic I have just started going out again over the last few months. I have to say the Huether is one of my favourite for taking my family or a business client. The menu has so many great items to choose from great for my 11 and 15 year old children and also for Mom and Dad in our 50s. Yesterday I took my Mother 91 and she loved the food as well great selection she said . We had a Bartender named Dee she rocked the room, so attentive and super accommodating. As well 3 of the 5 of us asked for to go containers, the portions were huge. The pricing is very competitive 5 of us $110 tax in ! I highly recommend all restaurants within the Huether facility ....and did I say Best Patio in town . Kindest regards
The restaurant is pretty good with a nice patio and good prices. The cafe food and coffee isn t special, but it s a nice place to study or hang out with friends.
We went for a lunch on the patio only to have the worst dinning experience of our lives and staff were more than part of the unenjoyable experience!!! We ordered our food and the wait was atrocious and when our food arrived we never got what we ordered. We asked to get our actual items ordered and the waitress was completely unhelpful and refused to get us what we ordered! I will never waste my money or time again in this establishment. They wronged us horribly and made absolutely no attempt to correct the error. At least they were not ignorant in to assuming we were going to pay for it! We ended up going to Bobby OBriens and enjoyed nice outdoor patio and got what we actually ordered!!
Great food
Waitress was very sweet and very attentive. However, there was a hair in the chicken schnitzel. Fully refunded but a hair..
There on a Monday night. Service was excellent. Had some pints on tap, panzerotti was amazing as usual. Ordered the dry Cajun wings for take away. Ya huh. Keep doing what you are doing. Shows why you have been around for ever! Sorry no photos, ate everything way too fast.....
Good food, friendly service.

Great food, friendly and efficient service, and a lovely patio with a covered roof and ceiling heaters that kept us cozy and dry even when it poured rain.

NB - barley works hours are not as indicated by Google.and I dont think their own website has the most accurate open times. Call ahead. Patio is large and covered. Great for a rainy fall day lunch. The first best chicken tenders ever. Still the best chicken tenders ever. Adlys Ale a++++ The should totally bring back the giant raviolis they used to have.
