Their wine selection is equally impressive, showcasing a thoughtfully curated list that pairs beautifully with the menu. Sole Restaurant and Wine Bar doesn’t just offer a meal — it offers an experience. With its authentic approach to food, a stellar drink menu, and exceptional service, it’s the kind of place you’ll want to return to again and again. Highly recommended!
I've had my eye on Solé for years but haven't made the time to stop in until now. Took a friend of mine on an impromptu birthday lunch. Had a very pleasant experience. Very welcoming staff, great atmosphere and the food was tasty.
The food is fantastic. The atmosphere is turn of the century beautiful great beer, selection, wine selection, fantastic staff. They had their own parking lot and outdoor seating when the weather permits, a romantic spot if you’re lucky enough to have a date. thank you, Sole. I had a great meal
Beautiful atmosphere, a staple restaurant in Waterloo. Aesthetically so perfect. Friendly wait staff, Heidi served us and was a delight the whole time. She was knowledgeable on the wine list, which was really helpful in our choosing a bottle. Our pizza and braised beef was 10/10, so tasty and the portions were perfect. We couldn’t have had a better experience, and we loved the updates to the menu and decorating. Thank you Solé, looking forward to our next visit!
Our server Rachael was exceptional! One the best servers I have ever had. They were curious and warm which made my mother’s birthday dinner a wonderful experience. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the chicken dish and the scallops. I also really enjoyed the fire oven pizza dishes. Great time. Highly recommend! Also good selection of wines.
It had been many years since I had been to Solé. Food never disappoints. It was very tasty. I had the french onion soup, pasta, cheesecake and to drink, the hemmingway. Picture shows also a pavlova which my friend had for dessert.
We had been there a few times, so I decided to take my wife there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The restaurant is very pleasant, and the food was amazing, as always. Our server, Melanie, was very attentive and friendly. On top of that, the restaurant staff was incredibly kind and surprised us with a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. It was a lovely gesture, and we had a wonderful time!
Dining here was like a dream! The waitresses were so welcoming and kind, and the size of the pepper grinder that they bring around is so comically large. The pasta and cheesecake were so heavenly that I almost teared up because of how wonderful it was (I wish I was joking). I dined outside on their patio and the atmosphere was so lovely. I would highly recommend eating here!
We had a nice dinner tonight. My Beef Short Rib was slightly disappointing though. There s one small piece of deboned short rib in my dish, the rest tasted more like beef brisket. This Short Rib dish is boneless and came with just 4 slices of carrot and sauce/purée. The flavor and taste were good. However, I think it can easily enhanced with better cut of short rib and more potato purée and vegetables.
Fabulous birthday lunch with special dessert for my Dad! Delicious plant-based salad and pizza! Vegetarian options: Gorgeous vegan options! Try the Solé salad and Margherita pizza.
Sole was our choice to celebrate our 15th anniversary, which was worth it. As first-timers, we loved the ambiance and the service (Rachael was amazing S2), the food was delicious but a bit in the pricey area. We had baked brie and steak tartar followed by a blue cheese and pear pizza, which was so good out of this world! For dessert, we picked the creme brulee and a pineapple pavlova and were surprised with a small treat from Rachael for our anniversary, we loved it! Overall, it was a good experience. I will 100% consider coming back for our next anniversaries.
The food tastes okay, based on their price. The whole environment is very dark. I would say that very short of light.
Chef Dans skill is impressive. Phenomenal quality food, excellent taste and a touch of personalized service.
The service was lovely 6/5 , Emily our waiter was very kind and thoughtful. The restaurant was spotless, and the Shrimp Pasta was very tasty! The Sausage Pizza was decent. Parking: Parking spots were easy to aquire. Cars are constantly coming and going. Kid-friendliness: The Solé has a kids menu with a page including mazes and tic-tac-toe, as well as 3 corny jokes. One says: WAITER, WILL MY PIZZA BE LONG? No sir, it will be round
Dan Stubbs is the best! Amazing and highly recommend
Always well prepared food presented with class UPDATE 2024: A year or more ago Sole was sold to the Charcoal group of restaurants, as I understand. The restaurant was recently renewed inside, which it needed. My wife and I dined there for the first time since the new ownership/renovations. It used to be one of a few restaurants in town that we enjoyed for a nice meal with excellent food and service and atmosphere. Unfortunately we will not likely dine there again. I would guess they have added 30% more seats to the restaurant in the same space. As a result it is EXCEPTIONALLY noisy, and there is very little privacy from any other diners. Dont eat in the small dining room (used to be an events room) as they have finished it in all hard surfaces and when full it almost hurts your ears. Not a single sound absorbing surface in that room. The main dining room is very tight now and looks like a cafeteria when considering the seating density The servers were nice enough but not engaging, and of course you couldnt hear what they said most of the time. The bright spot was that the food was very good but not perfect (our short ribs were served lukewarm, not hot). Flavours were great for the Sole salad and the short ribs and presentation and serving size was just right. We were told when reserving that we could not spend more than 90 minutes in the restaurant, which I found snobby for what might have been fine dining, not fast food. However, not a problem as we were served quickly and in and out in under an hour for 2 courses. As I said, next dinner out we will go to our other favourites in KW for a very nice meals - a list that is now down by one.
We decided to visit Solé after their new renovations to see how the restaurant has changed. It is a very beautiful restaurant and the patio is stunning. The food was great. The only downside was the service. We felt attended to initially but then it took 25 minutes just to order drinks and food. One of the waitresses hastily placed our appetizer on the table in front of me while I was holding a plate to allow her access and then left it in front of me We agreed we would come back as we dont feel the poor service was intentional and maybe due to lack of communication. EDIT: I emailed the email provided in Soles response and provided my contact information and never heard back. Seems like they want it to look like they will make amends but then they never get back to you.
The staff is super sweet! Amazing food, and lovely ambience. Anna was our server and she was super nice :)
Scallops were seared quite lovely on the outside and soft on the inside. The escargot was decent, however a bit salty for our taste and quite oily. We did have to ask for extra bread. Mains of steak and pizza were very nice. The strawberry dessert was light and refreshing.
Absolutely fantastic experience at Solé. We got the roasted chicken and the sausage pizza and both were fantastic. The roasted chicken was a larger portion than I expected, and with delicious gravy. The service was outstanding. Warm, wonderful, professional atmosphere.
Had a really great dinner ! It was my lil brothers bday and he enjoyed the pear pizza. Also the lasagna my boyfriend said was amazing. If we ever come back into town we will for sure come back!
Its come a long way over past few years. Never used to be a fan, but in all fairness, its quaint, nice atmosphere, good menu and great service.
I recently tried Solé Uptown , and it was fantastic! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Our server Teo helped with recommeding our meal, We had Steak au poivre and Tiger shirmp mafaldine and it was delicious .Our food was fresh and had great flavor. Plus, the portion sizes were just right. Definitely a place I d recommend for a nice meal and a relaxed vibe. Looking forward to going back!
Great good and great atmosphere!
The food was delicious but the service wasnt up to par. We were a group of 10 but that doesnt excuse the number of mistakes. Because of the general noise level and the feeling of chaos I wouldnt recommend it for a romantic dinner out.
Sole in Waterloo is an extraordinary dining destination that captivates from the moment you walk in. The ambiance strikes a delightful balance between modern sophistication and cozy charm, making it the perfect spot for any occasion. Now, let s talk about the food wow! The menu is a vibrant celebration of fresh, local ingredients. Start with a comforting soup, especially the French onion soup, which is rich, flavorful, and topped with a perfectly melted layer of cheese. It s the ideal way to warm up your palate. The steaks are perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor, showcasing the chefs creativity and skill. Don t miss the fresh salads, which are a refreshing complement to any meal, featuring seasonal produce and house-made dressings that elevate the dining experience. For seafood lovers, the salmon is a standout dish, expertly prepared and packed with flavor, making it a great alternative to the steak. And don t skip dessert! The dessert menu is equally impressive, featuring indulgent options that are the perfect finale to your meal. The triple chocolate cake is a must-try rich, decadent, and utterly satisfying. Alternatively, the crème brûlée offers a delightful contrast with its creamy texture and perfectly caramelized top. The wine list at Sole is thoughtfully curated, offering an impressive selection that complements the menu beautifully. Whether you re in the mood for a bold red to enhance your steak or a crisp white to pair with your salmon, the staff is always ready to recommend the perfect pairing. What truly sets Sole apart is the exceptional service. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, making you feel right at home while guiding you through the menu and wine choices. Whether you re planning a romantic dinner or a lively get-together with friends, Sole delivers an experience that lingers in your memory long after the last bite. This place is a culinary treasure in Waterloo, and I cant recommend it enough!
Lovely restaurant, delicious food, great drinks, and wonderful staff.
We dined here with kids on a Tuesday night, and the restaurant was full! There s parking available behind the restaurant, which was convenient. We enjoyed the lively atmosphere and the warm, attentive service. The food was tasty overall. I gave 4 stars because the escargot was much smaller than I remember from dining elsewhere. At the end of our meal, we were given a survey card, which showed the management s commitment to ensuring excellent service. - Xiang
Obsessed
Such an amazing place! Food was delicious and nice birthday surprise :) Samantha was amazing! So helpful and kind. I recommend this place for any occasion
Onion soup and triple chocolate cake were delicious.
The patio is fabulous. Food and service is always excellent.
Beautiful place, excellent service and delicious food!
Such a beautiful cute cozy place with amazing food! Tori was my server, shes the best. Great attitude & knowledgeable about menu! The food was so so so good & definitely worth it. Each bite of my shrimp pasta was perfection. Thankyou to the chefs! Only thing is the crowd... There were some Real House wifes of Kitchener vibes girls constantly looking at the table & being snooty. There was also a older gentleman who kept bothering our table to ask if we were singers or performers.. which he was right but still that was the only annoyance, but hey we attract the eye hehe. Have a beautiful time & just ignore anyone else! Ps.. We went twice that day! Vegetarian options: Theres options for vegetarians! Kid-friendliness: You can bring kids
Sole is one of my favourite places to go for food, a drink with a friend and celebrate and event. The service and food are both on track for a nice meal away from home. The atmosphere is very relaxing and there is no pressure to rush your time there. I was there for Sunday brunch with 2 friends and ordered the Belgium waffles but they were not the thickness of a real Belgium waffle. Maybe next time.
Excellent. Service, food, drink, atmosphere... 10/10 a great experience, looking forward to next time!
Great service and good food.
Most caring, thoughtful staff, wonderful food.
A good classic restaurant.
Nice blend of traditional and modernized revisions of various recipes. The French onion soup was really tasty. The overall atmosphere is very calm. Their coffee selection is also noteworthy
Stunning restaurant
Its been a long time since I last ate at Sole. Im glad that I returned. The meal was excellent and the service was great. I was impressed with how involved the managers were present in the restaurant. Will return.
The steak is delicious and the French onion soup melted my soul
Great atmosphere and choices. Would go again for other menu
Nice atmosphere to dine and talk - casual sophisticated. Food is a little pricey, but also good. I especially liked their Tuna Nicoise salad. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options are skimpy - mostly just their regular salads minus the meat
I had lunch on an August weekday on the Solé patio. Solés patio is a great place to be on a nice day, great atmosphere. I ordered the Pear & Bleu pizza for lunch and really enjoyed it. The service was both friendly and attentive. Ill have to come back again to experience the actual restaurant, which also looked impressive. Recommended! Parking: For lunch, If you get there early enough, youll most likely find a free parking spot behind the restaurant.
Such a lovely restaurant and delicious food. Ordered the baked Brie and Sole salad with a margarita pizza and everything was wonderful. The patio was also lovely.
Have always loved the vibe of this place but the quality of service and food seems to really have changed over the past few years. Dietary restrictions: Not a ton of options for those that are gluten/dairy free
Food was fantastic, patio is beautiful, server was friendly and attentive, but . we felt a bit rushed. We were there quite early and it wasn t very busy and the kitchen speed was quite fast. Our dinner came out before my husband had finished his appetizer and the person who brought our mains took my husbands unfinished appetizer promptly without asking if he d like to finish it. It was just a couple mushrooms but in my experience appetizers should be confirmed finished and cleared before mains are served. Overall was a good experience but definitely something to be mindful of in the future!
Such a beautiful dinner! The service, atmosphere, and food were excellent. We can t wait to try more of their dishes, when we are back visiting the area!
Excellent food and service. It has been years since I was here and it was great.
Really enjoyed our meal and had a nice date night. Pasta came out a bit dry but they were happy to resauce it. Both the pasta and pizza we orderred were great.
Sole is a great restaurant. The food great. We had a fabulous time with our server Heidi who was fun while being extremely professional. We let her pick our wine and she also picked my husbands dinner for him! Sole s patio could be one of the best in the city. I am hearing impaired so find inside to be too loud. Sole is a perfect spot for connecting with friends or a nice date night.
The new menu is insanely good! The food composition for each dish is very professional and they taste amazing. Fav restaurant in Waterloo!
Honestly I love and recommend this place to everyone. The food is to die for and the customer service is top tier. They are so understanding and so kind. I really love the mushroom pizza my all time favourite
The tenderloin was excellent
Great fillet mignon. The interior is charming and well-designed, the service was very good. The menu is fairly expensive, but that was clear from the listing. Very happy with the experience. The fillet mignon was melting in my mouth, fabulous. The appetisers were also very good, though on the smaller side (an order of scallops is three scallops, so as a shared appetizer thats fairly small). The desserts were alright, adequate, but nowhere near as good as the savory dishes. Would definitely return here for the steak.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, wonderful atmosphere, divine food.
I was just treated to an amazing lunch with 2 special ladies. This is my first time here in more than a decade. We were seated in a cool corner of the patio, where we were served by Kali, our gracious server. I thoroughly enjoyed my Sole house salad topped with tender shrimp. The ample serving barely left room for my birthday treat at the end. The renovations done this year create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Its definitely worth going to experience! For sure, I wont wait so long to be back!
Food was very good, portions a bit small. Cool place to sit down. They got some parmesan in my pants tho.
We had an absolutely delicious dinner at Solé to celebrate our anniversary. The new menu is great! Every dish we had (2 apps, 2 entrees, 2 desserts) was perfectly seasoned and beautifully cooked. My steak was a PERFECT medium rare.
Best looking gin and tonic in town. Jason is a fantastic host.
I took a wrong turn a few days ago and ended up driving past this restaurant. I saw the adorable patio, packed with people and was surprised that there was a restaurant here I never even knew about. Since its a holiday, we decided on a whim to come have a patio lunch and Im so glad we did. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful (obsessed with the bathroom decor and sink!) and the patio is lovely too. We were seated in the shade next to the water feature. The menu has a little bit of everything for everyone. We ordered a beer and a lemonade for drinks. Then our server, Anna, helped us to choose some small plates and a pizza. We ended up getting the tuna tartare, scallops, whipped feta with tomatoes, and the sausage pizza. It was all well seasoned and sooo delicious! We were totally stuffed when we saw a server bring a nearby table this gigantic chocolate cake. Well then of course we had to get the gigantic chocolate cake too! I look forward to coming back many times in the future to try more of their menu.
My wife and I attended a wedding there and the service was fantastic and the food was exquisite. We we are looking forward to going back on our next date night
I have always loved Sole for two reasons: the bread they offer to start, and the schnitzel. The last time I went (after they were bought by Charcoal Group), they removed both of those items off the menu. I am very disappointed that a big company like this comes into Waterloo and buys up all our restaurants. Now we have another restaurant with the exact same menu as Bauer Kitchen, Wildcraft, Charcoal Steakhouse, etc. I am sure I speak for many when I say it would be well appreciated if they brought back some of the staples off the old menu, especially considering Kitchener/Waterloo is often known for German food & culture. I have been forced to eat elsewhere ever since.
Food and service are amazing, I like how they cook the steak medium rare. The raspberry mojito is very refreshing. It would be even better if the scallop was not that salty, the sauce and bacon in it was perfect tho.
Great place to eat in Waterloo! Heidi was a great server!
What a wonderful experience, from the first moment to the last. The service was truly excellent, and there was attention to detail with the drinks and food so that everything was perfect (e.g., the stem of a glass of armahnac was warmed as its meant to be done). This place is leaps better than it used to be before the Charcoal Group took over. It will be a new favourite spot now for special and every day occasions. In our group, we had the Sole salad, French onion soup, tiger shrimp pasta (perfectly done), the Hugo cocktail (delicious and not too sweet), salmon salad, mushroom pizza, and vanilla creme brule. Recommend all!
Fantastic meal and service. The tuna is great!
I have been many times over the years and each time had a lovely experience. Today was a special day as we celebrated our daughters 21st birthday. We were a large group consisting of young and older generations, each with different wants and needs. From the moment we walked in the door we were made to feel welcome and catered to. The food was delicious and everyone had a wonderful time. Thank you for helping to make our daughters day so special!
We have dined many times at Sole. Unfortunately our experience on June 26 was not satisfactory. Our meal started off with appetizers of seared sea scallops, tuna Tartare and Baked Brie. The appetizers were good. The disappointment started when the wrong salad was brought out for one persons appetizer. Then the main course was completely unacceptable. Four out of five main dishes (entrees) were over cooked. One person had to send their Filet Mignon back as it was burnt. One persons entree Pizza was not even brought out with the other entrees as it was too burnt. They prepared a second one. Another persons Steak Au Poivre was over cooked. Another entee Sweet Potato Lasagna was also overcooked and had a burnt taste to it. The server said they would take the pizza off the bill but they did not. We were given five truffle s complimentary to take with us. As we were there for a special occasion we did not want to complain additionally when our bill came. However it will be a long time before we would consider going back or recommending Sole. Over the years we have loved to have dinners and special occasions at Sole so we were left feeling very disappointed especially with a bill that was over to $400.
I love it here! I came to Solé for the first time just last week for an espresso martini with a friend - it was fantastic and the chocolate cake was more than we expected in the best way possible! I was raving so much that I found myself back the next day for lunch for an equally delightful experience! I had the salad and the mocktail Raspberry Mojito - both of which I would certainly get again! I loved the atmosphere and the customer service was above and beyond! Looking forward to coming back soon!
We had dinner at Solé on a Wednesday evening and it was quite spectacular. Drinks I had a non alcoholic Stiegl that was presented in a proper chilled Stiegl glass and poured perfectly table side by our server. My partner had a virgin Raspberry Mojito that she enjoyed thoroughly. Distilled water was given and replenished throughout the meal. Ceaser salad was excellent, fresh bacon, very fresh lettuce and great croutons and the large was large enough to share. French onion soup was a 10, beautifully seasoned and made perfectly. I had the beef short ribs and it s likely one of the best dishes I ve ever had, perfectly moist and tender, the purée was beautiful and paired nicely. My partner had the steak frites with sides of vegetables and mushrooms. Vegetables were beautiful and roasted until carmelized, mushrooms were also wonderful. We had the cheesecake and lattes for desert. Cheesecake was beautiful and dense. Lattes were good but could have been slightly warmer. The only slight critiques we had were as follows. We really wish there was bread with the meal. Just a small basket with some whipped butter at the onset. As well the utensils were placed directly on the table and it would have been nice if they were on the napkin. My partners steak was good but we wish it had a better sear and was slightly light on seasoning. The frites also were great but it looked like the bottom of the bag as she was left with quite alot of fry tidbits. Overall a beautiful meal though in an absolutely stunning atmosphere.
I took a good friend to dinner last night; we had a wonderful dinner, mostly due to our server, Caroline(ask for her). She was legitimately fun and helpful. She didnt rush us in any way; in fact, we would have loved it if she could have joined us for dinner. Dinner was quite good, and the portions were amazing! I recommend the burger if youre hungry. Pizza was good and the brazed beef rib also was a good portion and very delicious. Really nice! Thank you Caroline for making our dining experience so delightful and fun :-)
Must try the beef short rib. So good!
It was an excellent experience. I will definitely come back. Thanks Food : 5/5
Liv was our server. Amazing. Food was Devine! Recommend the tuna Niçoise salad. Just a perfect evening. Thanks Liv for taking care of us!
Awesome service, friendly servers, very attentive. Good food ambiance.
We dined here on a Sunday night with a party of 10 and we had a very wonderful experience. The servers Heidi and Emily (I think these were their names) were lovely from the start, and were very attentive to details. We had lots of different dietary restrictions that they had no problem accommodating and even had a whole gluten free menu. Everyone was very happy with their food and the patio was very pretty and great for a warm summer night. We will definitely be back!
Great experience
Top Drawer!
The outdoor patio ambiance is wonderful. Ive been to many restaurants around the world and Solé is right up there. Their attention to detail and food quality are excellent. The inside is also very quaint.
Great...no, fantastic food. Our server was very friendly too. Id recommend Sole to anyone looking for a place to eat out. Well definitely be back!
Recent renovations bring Solé back up to par in terms of atmosphere, but the menu wasnt very exciting. Mostly bland options - nothing I would say you need to to Solé and try this! Otherwise fantastic service - and good thing they kept the creme brulé on the menu - that was the best part of our dinner!
Food was hideous and definitely not worth the price. The food came out lukewarm and cold and the new group that owns it definitely does not do it any justice because i went with a friend who has been before and they were embarrassed at the experience
Went for lunch on the weekend, it was really busy. Food was mid and not worth the price, and my poor server was dead on their feet, looked like they hadn t had a break in days. Don t think I can support a place like this
Always a positive experience at Sole...top shelf service....thanks for making our anniversary special Maureen.... New and updated....same wonderful service (thanx Cindy)....mushroom pizza, excellent....off to a good start
Quiet, nice deco, delicious food.
I recently dined at sole and was thoroughly disappointed. The food quality was not worth the cost at all. Additionally, the atmosphere was far from welcoming, making the overall experience quite unpleasant. I wouldnt recommend this place.
Went here for my birthday this past weekend, told staff while making the reservation. Was not wished a happy birthday even after confirming with my party that it was my birthday. The food was cold, bland, and not what I would expect for the price. The gnocchi is not gnocchi but rather a collection of strange balls of mashed potatoes (which were cold on the inside). Do not recommend.
We tried different appetizers, and for the main meal, I had baked salmon. For dessert, I had cheesecake. Everything was really good and delicious.
New owners have done a great job of renovating. Great ambiance, very attentive server. We all had different dishes from steak to a very delicious tender veal chop to sweet potato lasagna . Everyone was very pleased with their food. Definitely would recommend trying this place I know we plan on returning Dave Vegetarian options: They offer vegetarian gluten free as well as other dietary restrictions just ask your server Dietary restrictions: Dietary restrictions are available Wheelchair accessibility: Mother in law has a walker and the table was easily accessible. Lots of room for anyone with mobility problems
Incredible food, incredible service, beautiful restaurant
Went all the way from Brampton to Waterloo to celebrate my wifes birthday at Sole Uptown as it came highly recommended by my daughter. Did not disappoint. Had a great meal outdoors and the food was delicious. I had the Salmon that came with a tasteful salad that included Avocado and corn. Very well presented. So were the meals requested by our family members. Super atmosphere and the servers were very very polite and friendly. Particularly Courtney who served us was also equally up to the task. As a hotel and restaurantier, I was also very impressed with the observation to detail and overall knowledge of the manager. Nothing seemed to escape him, including the name of the beautiful tree next to where we were sitting - I am sure you you would recall the guy who asked for the name of the tree? Yes he knew it was a Chesnut tree Will definitely go back there again.
Such a great hidden gem, my friend and I kept saying it felt like escaping to Europe for an hour. I popped in to catch up with one of my girlfriends, tried the espresso martini and then had the salad. We ended up being unlucky and got caught in the rain but the umbrella covered us perfectly so we didn t get wet and got to see a rainbow afterwards (our server also promptly told us if we wanted to move inside we could but we were fine under the table umbrella). Some things to know, they were recently bought by the Charcoal Group so reviews from the last 4 months and going forward apply to current management. Def will be going again and recommend - rain or shine!
One of the best dining experiences Ive had in a long time. The atmosphere was perfect, the staff was wonderful and the food was the best part! I was visiting for Fathers Day Brunch and it was incredible. Had the Maple Eggs Benny . I definitely want to come back for lunch and dinner as all of the options looked phenomenal.
Was kind of disappointed at first because my shrimp pasta was a really small portion. Even compared to the chicken pasta portion, which was twice as much food. The shrimp tasted great, juicy and buttery. The pasta itself was alright. If you want pasta, just get the chicken pasta as it s much better and you get twice as much. They charge $7 for a tiny thing of bread, which tasted good but maybe not worth it. Dessert was a different story. The chocolate cake was the best chocolate cake I ve ever had in my life, six layers and they pour the chocolate sauce right in front of you. It was truly deluxe. I would ve given their place 3 stars but the cake bumped it up to 4. Our server was nice and I really liked the atmosphere.
Amazing place. They have the best gnocchi I have ever tried. All of other food has a unique taste and presentation that you unlikely to find in another restaurant. Chefs definitely go out of their way to satisfy clients. Other personnel is also great, they serve you with a smile and ready to accommodate any needs. Obviously, this restaurant is more on the expensive side, but I think the quality of food alone is worth it. To top it up, it has very pleasant atmosphere and a pretty fenced patio area. Dietary restrictions: To my knowledge, they can accommodate any dieters restriction upon request. Parking: Parking lot is right behind the restaurant
I really enjoyed both the food and service here. Food was very well made, fresh, and tasted great. Its a bit on the pricey side, but if youre looking for good food, this is the place to go.
We came for dinner on Saturday for 5:15pm. This restaurant is now part of the Charcoal Group and as such, excellence is always something everyone strives for. Free parking is located behind the building. The landscaping around the building is beautifully done and clean. Staff here are absolutely outstanding! Everyone here is friendly, attentive, personable and hard working. Our server, Teo, was equally or even more so. The Sole and Caesar Salads were excellent and definitely worth getting. The Gnocchi was so good my wife wanted to lick the plate! The flavours were outstanding. The Plant Based Teds Chicken Piadina Sandwich was tasty but I found it was a bit too salty for my liking; I loved the roasted garlic aïoli though. Our friends had to return their fries because they were raw in the middle; but it was quickly remedied and made to perfection. The baked cheesecake is phenomenal! So smooth and creamy and the compot was a perfect accompaniment. Unfortunately my triple chocolate cake was dry and hard and had to be returned; the rest of the cake was taken out of circulation because it did not meet their standards. Although our evening was not perfect, we would definitely be back.
Disappointed in the food and service. Ordered the mushroom pizza and gnocchi and it was undercooked which made it quite soggy... Honestly if it was cooked longer, the dishes could have been much better. However, because it was undercooked, we werent even able to finish half of it. We also ordered some espresso martinis which were tasty and large which I enjoyed. The ambience is for an older crowd but was quaint and nice. Overall, I would come again but I just hope the cook is probably cooked...
The best pizza, steak tartare and house salad. I look forward to trying everything on the menu
Sole was absolutely delicious. Place looks very similar to pre-renovations, simply updated. We ate in the back room which was a little quieter. Best food I ve had in a while. Generally manager Jason was a pleasure to speak with.
Always my Waterloo favorite. Amazing people providing attentive service and real hospitality
Good food and great service. Sole has undergone a great transformation. The atmosphere is relaxed and the menu is varied for everyones taste. Certainly a 5 out of 5 in KW in 2024
Long time patron of Sole. Went for dinner after Charcol group took over. Sound level was horrible, had to shout across the table to be heard, no privacy as a result. Regardless of food quality or service they were not enough to overcome the disturbing sound levels. Will not be back.
Newish menu..Beer and wines finailly nice and cold where needed. Service was great. Some confusion as was very busy. They were not put off by our slow evening wish so that was nice. Pizzas a bit inconsistent from one to next but better than before. Surface bottom char a bit overdone one of ours. One really spicy the other not so. Shrimp pasta was good. Salad missing enough dressing. Any appetizer is very expensive ie $22 for 3 scallops, 16 $ for an onion soup. &4 for a garlic bun. You can rack up 200$ for 3 in no time. Still a pretty spot with good food. Can be noisy if crowded with tin stamped ceilings and hard floors. Nice outdoors spot when weather permits. Its a 3-4. People get carried away I think with stars sometimes.
Most delectable meal Ive had in years. These were just the apps I was enjoying way too much to take any more photos lol
Very good food ! Great atmosphere ! great service !
This is an excellent restaurant. We hadnt been there for quite some time, however, nothing has changed. Fantastic food and service.
We were looking for a nice patio to sit out on and this has to be one of the better ones for sure. Almost feels like youre in a different place other than Waterloo. Food was great. So were the drinks. Service was amazing and friendly. Parking: You can park out back as they share a parking lot with RE/MAX and theres no cost to it.
Just had a most amazing dining experience at Sole. The drink service was quick, the food was amazing (the best cabbage side dish Ive ever had), and the service was attentive and timely without being intrusive. It was a wonderful evening.
Food and service is always amazing!
One of my favourite restaurants, serves real vegetarian food! I come back regularly for the sweet potato lasagna. I hope they dont remove it from the menu. Vegetarian options: The best sweet potato lasagna!
Our Sunday lunch was absolutely fabulous!!
Food was tasty! Me & my wife went there last week on my her bday. We were served by Emily and she was very gracious and helpful. She accommodated us by modifying menu item to meet our vegetarian needs. All other staff also greeted nicely. Emily got a surprise crème Brûlée in a decorated plate for my wife s bday. (It s our favourite desert ;) ) The ambience was pretty good and we really liked the place. One of the nicest place in town. Surely, we ll come back.
I really like the interior and the ambiance. The patio is quite beautiful. Food quality is great, especially the pizza - loved the Solé pizza. The feel is very inviting - highly recommend this.
nice food and wine selection
Our server Maureen was outstanding and the food was delicious!
Great cozy place with nice cuisine
I liked the food I had, salmon with a beet and wild rice salad. Also, their cocktail, chocolate.... (forgot the other part) was so good that I ordered another drink of the same cocktail. You have to book before going. We did not book but were lucky enough to have an emptable for aboit 1.5 hours a d it was good for us.
solé was the perfect place for our valentines date! such an amazing atmosphere, with great food, and perfect service. would love to come back!!
Excellent and friendly service. Food was enjoyable and reasonably priced. Creme brulee delicious. Overall great lunch experience. Planning a dinner I the very near future to dig deeper.
Same its ever was!! I will be back soon!
I only regret not going here earlier. Staff and service great. Food was fresh tasting and had menu choices I dont usually see in kw so it was very refreshing to try something innovated and elevated at decent price. Plenty of parking off the street which is so hard to find in uptown . Selection of wine modest , would like to see a Cabernet Sav. Available by the glass. To note I appreciated the waitress asking about any allergy or intolerance. I will definitely return ! Vegetarian options: More than one choice Dietary restrictions: GF Parking: Parking lot behind building. Many spots including handicapped.
One of my favourite restaurants in the city. The food is delicious and high quality and always prepared to perfection. Great menu selection too. I always enjoy coming here and always leave happy. My family loves it too!
just popped into Sole on feb 1 and bumped into Jody Palubiski. the charcoal group has just taken over. i had the beef short rib and my wife had the lobster and shrimp linguini. both dishes were fabulous. they also offer corkage! there will be some changes happening soon, so stop in and check it out!
Great location for business lunch. Service is quick, and food quality is excellent. The atmosphere is ok for a meeting (a bit noisy inside) but you can definitely get work done over lunch.
Menu is limited but all dishes are excellent. It was a busy Saturday night and service and atmosphere were wonderful. Looking forward to returning soon!
Food was absolutely delightful. Everything was delicious. Constant service was also impressive.
The sweet potato lasagna is amazing. I highly recommend I.
Overall a negative experience for a pre-valentines day date night with my wife. The food was quite good as usual, as we have enjoyed over our last 10 years in Waterloo. After receiving our bill and attempting to pay with our Uptown Dollars gift card which our firm gives us as an annual Christmas gift we were informed by the server that it was no longer accepted due to new ownership. Not soon after a manager arrived at the table who advised us they didnt know how to accept it and we should let them know our payment method while making a reservation - a pretty absurd concept, and quite simply an attempt to pass the blame from the restaurant and belittle the patron, leaving my wife quite upset as she had made the reservation. I have made hundreds of reservations around the world and have never discussed a payment method in any way; and why would we as we had used this exact payment method at Sole in the past. Eventually a third manager came and after some time and was able to accept the card, it was a whole lot of distress for nothing. It comes across as a tactic to rufuse gift cards in an effort to force other payment methods, causing drama for the patrons when there are other viable solutions. I would no longer recommend the service at Sole simply due to the fact our date night ended with my wife crying due to a lack of training/caring of the staff as well as belittling, unnecessary commentary from management staff.
Its very rare for me to say that a restaurant was perfect, without an ounce of doubt. The atmosphere is so lively and upbeat while still calm and intimate. The execution of service was flawless. Like a well oiled machine, the team at Solé works so well together. From the hosts to the servers, everyone was so professional but immediately made you feel at home. The Valentines menu was amazing; a well curated selection of classics and new innovations that were complemented by a wide variety of wines and cocktails. In the future, I would love to see a cocktail dedicated to the history of the Segrams building where Solé now resides. To our server Heidi, you were fantastic. I am truely at a loss of words to describe how great you were. Hope to dine with you again in the future.
Solé is our favourite place for romantic dinners. We were there for Valentine s Day last night and we left saying that felt like we were on vacation at a 5 star resort because the employees run to open the door for you or grab your coat. The food is to die forrrr. Every thing is delicious and my husband tried to lick his plate clean . 10/10 all around. Everyone knows it but I had to say it publicly!
A nice restaurant. We went for Valentines Day so there was a set menu, but the food was very good.
Service was abysmal. Food was poor and overpriced. They try to sell themselves as fine dining but execute like a greasy spoon. Save your money and go to Dennys. Much better service and food quality there.
Great food! We hated the music so much that it affected the whole experience. But we really enjoyed the food! Grilled scallops were so tender and juicy, and the tiramisu was perfect!
As a follow up - our group returned tonight for another occasion and our food and service was 5*. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal, and the plates were completely clean when finished. At this time, I would highly recommend Sole. The salmon was perfect, the beef was melt in your mouth as were the ribs. Thank you management for reaching out to resolve any issues we encountered. We will definitely try again. The group all felt the food was not worth the price, two people ordered the same dish and one of the portions was visibly less. One person had to send a dish back to the kitchen. Two people had dishes that were barely warm. Will not be going back.
This place used to be exceptional, and our go-to for a celebration. Not any more. Not only have they removed all interesting options from their menu - what they have is not good. We ordered the fish cakes, which were fine and the calamari which was revolting - bad enough we couldnt eat it. For the low low price of $60. We left after that
Great restaurant. Ive been there a few times for dinner and never disappointed. If you love Prime Rib, try their Sunday special.
Great atmosphere, great food, great waiter named Phillip, will definitely return
Crab cakes were a bit overcooked and dry. Calamari was very tasty. Beef tenderloin was cooked perfectly. Waiter was excellent and very attentive. There is plenty of parking behind he restaurant. $$$$
Food was amazing! The presentation was very attractive but the flavor palette and the quality of the food was just out of this world. Best scallops Ive ever had. Fantastic eggs Benedict. Calamari was delicious. The blueberry loaf/bread was wonderful. I was underwhelmed by the banana bread, given that everything else was stellar. The service all around was very courteous, helpful, accommodating. This restaurant is definitely going in my best of restaurants in Waterloo. To be visited again and again. Parking: The parking lot seems to accommodate over 30 cars. It is very accessible for handicap access as it leads directly to the front door without steps
Great service.
Absolutely amazing from start to finish and the service we received from Heidi was over the top!!!! A must go to place!!! Food
Very tasty Ceasar Salad, Beef Wellington and Florentine pizza. Lovely presentation. Service was friendly and efficient. I couldnt resist the whip cream on my dessert coffee before I took the picture.
The amount of food was just right and it was delicious. I made the pizza myself and it was delicious. The salmon was also delicious.
I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant.
Went for a company party. Great attentive and accommodating service from the wait staff. Billed as a restaurant and wine bar, the wine list does not disappoint and is quite extensive with some delicious choices. Parking lot was free (always a major plus), just too small for the amount of people we had, so some people had to go find street parking. Being a small brick party room, it fit our group of about 30, though once filled, got very loud as it echoed with everyone talking at once. The salad and entree portions were much smaller than expected, especially the steak medallions, as they were much smaller than we were told they would be (8-10oz) but ended up being three few mm thick, smaller than palm sized slices maybe pushing 4oz at the most. Mine was also missing the garnish that was on everyone elses dish. The vegetable side was quite small with only three carrot slices and a few parsnip pieces along with mashed potatoes. For the price and seeing as it all tasted so good I would have very much liked to have more than a few bites before it was gone. To end on a high note, the dessert was great. I HIGHLY recommend the caramel cheesecake as it was a nice big portion, creamy, flavourful, with a crunchy layer on top and so delicious.
On a very busy night, service was still excellent. The food is great. I had the Baby greens and pear salad. The dressing was perfect. Adding a chicken breast was just the right finish.
I had a seafood linguine which was absolutely delicious. The server was friendly and professional. I enjoyed my visit as always.
I had the prime rib. 46$ 1st, I want to say it was delicious. No problem with that. The service impeccable . My problem is the portion. The prime rib was very thin and disappointing..not what Im use to on other restaurants. I got a scoop of mash potatoes, Not enough....it was hidden under the prime rib...and the veggies were very hard and under cooked... Recap: Prime rib , delicious but thin Mash potatoes, delicious but not enough. Veggies, hard and undercooked. Worth 46$ ...not so sure... Waitress: phenomenal A+ First time Ive been here ( im from out of town) ....I might come back...
Absolutely one of the best fine dining restaurants in Kitchener Waterloo region great service and really enjoyed their Cobb salad and lobster rolls will surely visit soon.
Lunch meeting went very smoothly with this establishment, and their food was incredible. The atmosphere is pleasant and quiet, and the service is well paced. They made sure to do time checks and keep things on track for their guests. The food quality is impeccable, and the prices are very reasonable. The menu has a diverse range of offerings; the chef does an excellent job of keeping his dishes unique from the mainstream while mainting a familiar comfort feel. This was a dining treat. Looking forward to my next visit.
This was a disappointing experience. The Good: The pan seared scallops. The Bad: The Cabernet, the lobster linguine, the soft fried calamari and especially the atrocious alleged Tenderloin Medallions, and the fact that we were told that there was only a table by the bar available when for the entire duration of our meal there were empty booths behind us. The waiter asked if I would like the Tenderloin medium or medium rare, I have to wonder if that was a joke. I asked for the medium rare, only to find 3 slivers of meat that looked like they had been shaved from the tail of a tenderloin, absolutely not the promised medallion. They ranged between 3-5 mm in thickness (see attached pic, I put my knife against it for perspective). Expectedly it wasnt medium rare, it was so well done it was the first time in my life Ive had tenderloin that was tough and chewy. I took two bites and sent it back. The other dishes were average apart from the Scallops which were decent. The wine seemed off, and since it came in a decanter I couldnt tell if it really was what we had ordered. Management apologized and took the tenderloin off the bill. Our server Philip was excellent though.
Great restaurant , the food is good , the service is excellent
Service was slow. 2 hrs for dinner when restaurant was not full. Ordered dessert and latte. A slice of cake took longer than the latte??? Drinks were almost finished before the cake finally arrived.
Service was great. Portion was a little small, but delicious
Food was good but the decor is disappointing. The womens bathroom would benefit from an update, in my opinion.
