Food is ok. Price is too high as the portions are quite small. In comparison to keg, Kelsie s, Montana etc it is not worth at all. I also thought Main st. Mocha pie was not balanced enough. Overly coffee tasting. Grilled cheese burger and bang bang shrimp was good. I wouldn t really recommend overall. Nice atmosphere though

Anniversary dinner. Great atmosphere and delicious sangria. Unfortunately food was cold (sweet potato fries) and just so so for flavor and quality. Waiter was bartending and waiting on our table and we had to go find him to order our second drink. We wont be back.

The food was amazing and reasonably priced. We had a great waiter in Danny who helped make the experience even better.

We were here for an early dinner at 3:30 on a Thursday afternoon. There were four of us one had chicken, one had steak and two of us had salmon, and all four of us were extremely satisfied with the presentation, the quantity and the quality of the food, we would definitely come back. We are from Sarnia and kudos to Phoebe and Nate! Oh the shrimp app was amazing as well!

Sadly when one comes in, and isnt served, or even looked at for over 15 minutes, and then the waitresses are side eying us because we politely asked if we could order our drinks, it makes us want to leave..not sure why our waitress was also the bar tender? If one is unable to wait on us, and is only making drinks then it defeats the purpose. Its wasnt busy. Sadly this deducts a lot of points for us.

First of all our server Phoebe was great! Very attentive and catered to all of our special requests and needs. We were in a bit of a time crunch and she was efficient and made sure we got our food quickly. The food was excellent. We keep coming back for the fries! So good! My husbands crispy chicken sandwich was delicious and the fish tacos were fresh. Great experience overall, we will definitely be back!

Could have been a good experience if not for the horrid smell, couldn t even enjoy my food. I ve been to the sulfur hot springs in Banff and this has dethroned that experience in the worst smelling category. Service was nice though.

Menu options were pricey, very limited to my tastes and without reservation, which I did not know was suggested. We were placed at the very first six-seater table inside. The door. Was very noisy. However we were able to have our conversation. Ill be it with raised voices so we could hear each other.

Had some amazing pretzel sticks and cheese dip here! Will definitely be back to try some more of their food

But this State and Main blow us away with its really great tasting food. I cant say enough about our services, super friendly and awesome attitude. We will be back.

It was OK. Definitely nothing mind blowing. Everything was kind of mediocre. Steak was kind of bland as was the satayed mushrooms and onions. A little disappointing. Seats were uncomfortable and everything was pretty wide open. We asked For a booth and I was told it was reserved. We were there for over an hour and a 1/2. And nobody sat in that booth. There were 6 in our party. The place was pretty empty too.

We sat on the patio for the first time this year. It was very pleasant to start with, but as it got cooler, they brought out patio heaters. We had 3 different meals and they were all very good.

Mac n cheese and pow pow (lol actually Bang Bang) shrimp I think they were called. Very good. Large portions. Only problem was the toast. I was going to say garlic toast but it tasted so burnt I couldnt eat it. The guy who burns them in the back should try it and figure out how to get it grilled without making them inedible. No point in putting it on a plate if it tastes that bad.

Worst dining experience weve had in a long while. Seated right away and then proceeded to sit for 15mins. No server came to take drink orders or to even acknowledge we were there. Finally went to the bartender, as he was the only staff member in sight, to explain and say we were just going to leave. To which he just said ok. We go to State and Main a few times a month but never again after that experience.

We were squeezed in to the last table available. Server Chris suggested a nice customization so chicken tenders both standard and buffalo tossed were great. Pretzel bread and cheese were nice as well. The side Caesar s were a little plain akin to a grocery store Caesar kit. We also had the home style red ale. Nice. Would go back.

A favourite spot for my friends and I to gather. Great atmosphere and not too loud to talk. Love the steak salad. Our favorite server Christian waited on us again last night. He is great!!! So attentive and always remembers us and our favourite wine.

Needed something different, so I google mapped restaurants where we were shopping. On a Saturday evening, little wait, like 5 minutes, had pretzel bites, wife had fish tacos, I had french dip. Everything was great, get the dill dip for fries.

Chris (the manager) came over to our table to check on food quality, and to make sure everything was to our liking. And it was. Even though there was a sign notifying us of an early closure to celebrate holiday season we werent rushed. The drinks were also delicious. Christian the bartender was very attentive and thorough. He gives us exceptional service everytime we come here. He even remembered us after only one time. It s the little things. ;) great atmosphere. Oh and the food is awesome here.

I have been a fairly regular customer of State and Main, the food is great (and vegetarian friendly) but honestly what kept me coming back was the service. Most nights I was served by Christian and for nearly 2 years he was consistent in being prompt and always made me and the guests I brought feel like they were at home.

Not the cheapest place to eat but the couple extra dollars are more than made up for in quality. We waited a little extra for our food due to a hockey tournament in town. Our server was awesome and we never complained and they still comped us for the wait.

We keep coming back because of the quick service and excellent food! We came back twice this weekend and both times Emma did an excellent job of looking after us. Keep up the great work! Kid-friendliness: Huge portions and high quality even though its a kids menu and platter. Seriously enough for an adult!!

Just got home from Waterloo location.... Terrible experience... flatbread was good and hot, sweet potato fries were room temp and the steak on the salad was room temp too... Asked for it to be heated up, came back colder than it left...I think that will be my last visit...waitress was as cold as the steak.

Been here few times now to post a review. The ambience and the staff are very welcoming. The drinks are unique and in good quality. The in house draft beers are very refreshing and tasteful. Food portions are worth the money.

One of our faves. You definitely have to try the Bang Bang Shrimp as an appetizer. Service and food are both consistently great.

The best restaurant I have ever visited!

Our go to place for dates. Amazing Spanako flatbread and chicken enchiladas. Definitely the go to place for fish tacos and crispy chicken burger as well. Their butter chicken bowl is fulfilling and yummy as well. Love the ambience and for a nice discount(happy hour) you should visit between 9 pm-close. Vegetarian options: Some vegetarian options available like the spanako flatbread Dietary restrictions: Can accommodate dietary restrictions Parking: A lot of parking spots are available in the plaza

Our server needs to pay a bit more attention to her other customers instead of her regular customer. Had a hard time trying to place our main order, as she was too busy chatting with her regulars. We had to get another server to place our order. Overall the food was okay, service was poor. Not sure if I would go back here since theres alot of other restaurants in Waterloo to try.

The steak in steak salad has reduced in size. I think the cut might have changed. Wasnt seated in good time. Almost left. Music was at club level volume. Had to shout our conversations.

The manager Michael was able to squeeze myself & a colleague in rather quickly on a busy Friday night! He was incredibly welcoming & accommodating. Our server, Emma, who told us she was still in training, you would not even be able to tell as she provided prompt & exceptional service. 10/10 will be coming back here!

Came here on a whim. Place looked busy and music was a good level. Good vibes for a date or a little get together with friends. Drinks were amazing and the food was also amazing! Got a few apps and a grilled cheese burger and a steak as our main and we could not finish !! Our server, Anh, was a delight! She recommended everything we ordered and was so friendly and efficient without being overbearing. One of the best servers I have ever had. We love State & Main! We come here frequently for pretty much 2 reasons. The first, their food is tasty, all we have had so far was above average ... but we love their wings! We get them every Wednesday! Second, they make fantastic drinks/cocktails! We have gotten to know Christian, (the best bartender in Waterloo? ) and every single beverage he has made for us, has been perfect! His cosmo, manhattan and old fashioned are amazing, as are all the other concoctions he mixes for us. We would come just for his drinks. We will be back ... maybe this Wednesday for wings and drinks ...

We went out as a celebration and my girlfriend had picked state and main as our night out. State and main has become my 2nd favourite restaurant, unfortunately tonight was awful, overcooked steak, slow drinks and food, also our stated apps came with our food. How long does it take to make an app and pour a beer?

I had to share my experience from this evening at State & Main as someone that dines out often in frequent other State & Main locations. This evening when I dined at this location, I was shocked to receive the bill with an $8 charge for soda water , particularly because the second refill that they brought (25 mins after I needed one) was actually a pinky red colour because it wasn t just soda water. Our bill was almost $100 for 2 beers, 2 waters, and 2 entrees (a salad and a burger). The portions are ok but not great. The burgers are 2 small patties stacked, not 1 thick one which meant the meat was dry. My salad dressing had spilled all over the plate on the way to our table. The patio was chilly with no heaters and the nearby intersection was noisy with no buffers for sound. Parking: Have to park far away if it s busy. Lot isn t close to the front of the restaurant and may have to park several rows back Kid-friendliness: Clearly don t cater to younger children. Kids menu is expensive, menu options would appeal to kids 8+. No drinks or dessert are included as with most other kids menus.

We came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and had a great time. It wasn t too busy at the time so we got seated right away. Our server, Miguel, was very helpful, patient and friendly! The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the baja fish tacos, chicken tenders (which they marinate for 24 hours and bread in the restaurant) and the grilled cheese burger. The portions are also pretty big so make sure you show up with an empty stomach!! We really enjoyed our meals and were surprised by how good the chicken tenders were! It was perfectly breaded and seasoned. It was my first time to this restaurant and I would definitely return to try more of the items on their menu.

Fantastic food! Simple menu means they focus on what they know how to do. Everything we ordered was cooked as expected / as ordered. Great taste, delivered hot and fresh. Zero concerns with the food. Service was top notch and we never needed to ask for anything. Our server was Christian and he was awesome! We will return soon!

Good dining experience! I ordered the French Dip with a side of sweet potato fries and the pink signature cocktail. I loved the soft sandwich buns and the combination of the spices on the sweet potato fries and its sauce. However, the cocktail was overpoweringly sweet and tangy I had to dilute it with water. Also, my sandwich was too watery inside that it made its bun almost soaked and mushy I didnt want to dip it in the broth that was served with it. So, the dipping broth remained untouched. The service was good and the atmosphere was great. The portions werent super large, but the prices were on the medium level.

My adult son & I ate dinner here for the first time yesterday. The food & service was fantastic! I found it a bit too loud for hearing each other speak but it is a pub/restaurant so that is just a personal critique & my preferred quieter atmosphere.

Food has always been great (even when we ve had it delivered) today was no exception. Plus our server was so friendly and helpful! The passion fruit mojito was dangerous good and their fries and dill dip are my favourite. My go to meal is usually their pistachio crusted salmon with mash and asparagus, all of which is a fantastic meal.

Maranda was fabulous when we came late for state and main food and drinks on a Wednesday! She was super friendly and very attentive. Brussels and wings were delicious. The dill pickle dip and fries is to die for too.

My spouse and I had the best experience at this restaurant this evening. Our server, Maranda was an absolutely joy. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. As we always do at a new restaurant for us, we asked our server what she would order and she said the fish tacos were a real standout. They did not disappoint and were delicious! Maranda took such good care of us. We look forward to our next visit and hope to have Maranda as our server.

The food we ordered to share was fish and chips (haddock), calamari, and a salad. We are not usually overly impressed with restaurant dining lately, but tonight, we were pleasantly surprised as the fish had a great crunchy exterior batter and soft and moist inside. The calamari was not rubbery at all and came with slightly battered red pepper slivers and a few Jalopeno sliced rounds also slightly battered. Finally, the salad brought it all together with fresh leafy greens with cranberries and chick peas that were made crunchy by roasting. The Elora Borealas IPA rounded out the great hit the spot meal that 2 of use shared for less than $100 all in tax and tip. Great job! Atmosphere rated a 4 only because it was unusually empty for a Saturday night. Vegetarian options: We were offered a vegetarian menu at the door before even asking, which was nice even though we werent vegetarians.

I have been here a few times for lunch and never have a bad experience. Wait staff are always attentive and friendly. The food is always good, its like any mid-tier regional chain.

Was incredibly surprised! Food, terrific. Calamari was soft and properly season. Margarita flatbread? Terrific. Service was the best Ive seen in the city! Shout out to Christian, bartender. EXCELLENT recommendation for both food and beer. Other person I came with orders some traditional cocktails, just to test the place. Orange peels got a proper pinch, shaker with ice where necessary. One of the best places in Waterloo Ive been too, definitely the best bartender Ive seen. Go here.

I honestly didnt know what I was gonna get going here for some drinks for the evening but I know now I dont want to go anywhere else. The food fantastic but the bartender Christian truly made the night. Outstanding professional who made us feel taken care of and who clearly loves the nuance of his his craft. Ask him for a drink let him surprise you with a taste of something carefully crafted with care. If the food is consistently as good every visit, this spot is the place to be for any occasion.

Tonight was our first time here, the only person working was the bartender, roughly around 4:00pm he served us our drinks, took our food order, was the nicest and most friendly host weve ever come across, wish I knew his name! He came checking on us frequently and was always there with a smile! Food was amazing, service was fantastic! We will definitely be back alot more often!

Food was good all around! It just took a bit for someone to come to our table after we were seated. Server did not have a pen, so even though we were ready to order food and drink, she only took our drinks. After we were finished food, it took a while for anyone to clear our plates, even though there were people standing behind the bar and just leaning on the back bar. Server was friendly and nice, and could ve used more support.

Headed to Waterloo to celebrate a birthday. We chose State & Main because of the gluten-friendly menu for her celiac. We ordered some apps to discover that the fryers are not so friendly. Suggestion would be to have a separate friendly fryer??? Wording is very misleading. Our server was lovely and knowledgeable. Cocktails were ok. The venue was not too busy for a summer Friday night in August. Overall, we had a pleasant time catching up;)

The reusable bag policy is alarming and ruined my whole experience. When my leftovers were packaged up for me and brought to the table in a reusable bag, I indicated that I didnt need/want the reusable bag. Even though I didnt touch the bag prior to this request, I was informed that if the server took it back the restaurants policy is to throw the bag away (unused, not having left the restaurant, only touched by the restaurant staff). This is appalling. I wont return unless/until this policy (which undercuts the whole environmental purpose and intent behind a reusable bag in the first place) is changed.

I have come to this State and Main location for years, and find it to be a safe, comfortable, friendly and fun place to visit both alone, and on dates. The food and drinks are delicious, and the service is warm and welcoming. I will be returning often. Extra thanks to my wonderful servers including Ryan, Christian, and Breanna for kind and competent service on my last several visits! I had the best Lunch today and it is all thanks to Nicole and Bailey I think their names were. I was sitting at the bar alone as I am in town doing some business deals. Given the chance I always choose State and Main. For work I travel a lot so I know the State and Main menu but these amazing women made my lunch special. It was busy and they were working hard, but they still made me feel special and attended. My drink never went empty and food was brought out fast! These two are an amazing team

They seem really unsure about what kind of restaurant they want to be. Their menu and atmosphere comes off like a casual, family friendly place but they think they re a high end, date night kind of place. They forced us out of our seats after we paid and each had drinks that were 3/4s full. Felt very unwelcome to come back. The food was also mediocre, the chicken was dry. Far too expensive for what it is.

My finance and I stopped by for drinks and apps after seeing a play in St Jacobs the other night. We had the mostly lovely server who was attentive and kind. The atmosphere was great with candles at the tables and the vibe was just perfect. This place is pretty pricey for what you get but we enjoyed some discounted apps and drinks thanks to happy hour and had a great time!

Ordered the Royal Bangkok Noodle Bowl for take-out and while it was tasty, the price is way too inflated for what you get. $30 (with tax and a small tip) for noodles is what I got. Literally 1 snap pea, a couple pieces of red pepper, 1 morsel of egg and 7-8 tiny shrimp. Will not return.

Great service, good beer selection and tasty food. I had a bad experience at Cambridge location but glad I gave Waterloo a chance. I will be back!

A 10/10 experience! I made a reservation for a large group of friends and State & Main Waterloo was extremely accommodating. They truly went above and beyond to make our experience the best possible. I specifically want to shout out our wonderful server, Madi, who was attentive and provided incredible service. :)

We have been to State and Main many times in the past few months and it is always good. Your Bang Bang shrimp are truly phenomenal. The balance of flavours in that dish is amazing and they are something we cannot replicate at home (we tried) so they keep us coming back. The Bourbon Cherry Limeade is also a real winner and worth going back for, although it seems the main blonde bartender is best at making them and they get a little iffy when others are on shift.
