Hands down the best Thai in KW! The owners are lovely, the menu is very accommodating to allergies and the take out is quick.

Food is not that good in general

Pretty good food, but lacking a little flavour; the mains and noodle dishes could use a little more something. More oddly, one of our drinks was taken from our table before we were finished, and before we could even say anything. Admittedly we were coming up to closing time, but just asking would have been appreciated.

Too slow, waited 40 mins after ordering, another 30 mins for dessert food are mid, pad Thai too salty

Food is great. Love the Pad Thai. Sitting within the wind blow of the door in the colder months sucks because it blows right in and is very cold! Service was fair.

Server was extremely friendly (way over the top to be honest) and the food was sooo bland. All three of us in the party ordered spicy dishes and nothing was remotely spicy or authentic. This is the second time I have been to this location where the food was very bland. I have eaten at hundreds of Thai restaurants all over the world as I travel extensively for work (including Thailand) and this is a disappointment to say the least. Apparently the owner/cook is actually Thai which makes me wonder even more

Nice little restaurant! We been going with family and friends for many years and the food and service are always great! The owners are kind and polite and try very hard to make the customer happy. They have some beautiful plants that give the restaurant a very nice ambience It is accesable, washrooms are accesible, and clean

Great food and excellent service. The owners are very kind people. I have gotten takeout here many times. A couple times the order wasnt quite right but they were very fast to correct it even going above and beyond what they needed to do to help out. Ill keep eating here and I recommend it to friends regularly.

So disappointed with Saturday evenings dinner as in our previous 3 visits we had a great experience. We wanted to take our visiting daughters out for dinner and chose Thai Sun. I m not sure if the regular chef owner was not working on Saturday night as I know she takes a lot of pride in her food and everything we had was off . My husband had his favourite, the Thai steak and it arrived cold. When we asked to have it heated up, we re pretty sure they just put it in the microwave and returned it to us. I think the server was overwhelmed as she was the only one working and lacked the friendliness of the usual servers. All in all, such a letdown.

Fresh and lots of flavour.

Tried it out for the first time and probably also for the last time the food was ok but it was a bit of a struggle to find enjoyable flavours that didn t just seem plain (and this was the spicy noodle?). My server did not come by one single time to my table. I really wanted water to drink with my meal but it was not refilled once. I had to go to the front to get my bill and pay and the servers were just chatting instead of ever visiting my table. Avoid unless you must be totally left alone the whole time you eat

Saw this place as we were walking down the street and then decided to go in for dinner. It was a really good decision made - great place with nice atmosphere, attentive service and really tasty food. Didnt get main course but we had a few apps and they tasted delicious. The server was really polite and attentive too. Definitely a recommended place to visit! Ill visit again to try the main course and desserts!

The best Thai food

We had dinner here when visiting Waterloo last week and the food was fantastic. We both had Soups and some appetizers and the were all excellent. Friendly staff too, will definately go back when we are in town.

Second time here - weve tried 3 out of their 4 curries and they were all delicious but panang was my favourite! Excellent service and very kind staff.

Amazing thai food! Simple and delicious. We got medium spicy for the green curry and noodles, and it was the perfect level. Cannot wait to come back and try more things from the menu.

This restaurant was absolutely perfect for lunch with my family today. The flavours of the food were so tasteful; we ordered the pad thai, salmon, green curry, and shrimp basil! Good portions for price. The service was lovely, they were so sweet and made sure we were taken care of throughout the entire time. I will definitely come back, it was a very enjoyable dine in experience overall with great quality food :) Vegetarian options: Options to change to tofu!

This place was great! Ok, ok, to be honest, like two things needed a little more salt for my liking, BUT the food otherwise was amazing and tasteful and just overall made well. We will definitely be coming back here, we felt so welcomed, and the place was clean. The service was outstanding. we fell in love with the owner he was so polite and so attentive. Its honestly what won us over. Cant wait to try new plates here again! We look forward to coming back

Amazing experience here at Thai Sun. Im pregnant and was craving Thai food so we came here. We ordered appetizers which were springrolls and fresh shrimp rolls. Both were amazing and prepared fresh. Our entrées were pad Thai and my spouse got Cashew chicken and rice, he ordered his to be extremely spicy and he was not disappointed. The portions were generous and the food was super tasty. This is going to be our new Thai spot.

Will not come back here even if its 80% off or, as a matter of fact, even for free. What a waste of money. Chicken is undercooked with the curry. Pad Thai has no flavor. Curry is watered out. I wasted my money and time.

Came for lunch, and we ordered spring rolls, spicy noodles, and red curry, very tasty. Great little restaurant. Good size portions. Spicy was mild for us, but the flavor profile is great.

I had the best yellow curry in KW. The location is beautiful with so many plants. And the owner was so welcoming!

Pad Thai

I dunno what the food tastes like.,. waited so long I got hungry and went somewhere else to eat.. no drink order.. no water.. just a menu and a dirty patio table.. I guess its my fault for sitting on the patio.. I guess its my fault for not specifying I wanted to eat. The waitress ran out to confront me... not apologize.. confront me.

Came here on a rainy day, indoor seating was comfortable and cozy! Service was wonderful. And best yet if you want a fun exciting item to try on the menu definitely get the Pad ba mee grop. Wonderful crunchy noodles and beef and refreshing Thai iced tea! A perfect combo

The food was good, tho the service was nonsense. It was a Sunday afternoon and there were only 2 waitresses running the whole place including the patio. We waited 20 minutes to see the menu and another 20 minutes to get the food. The table wasn t cleaned. The waitress rolled her eyes on us after the third time we asked for something, but to be fair, I totally understand that. It wasn t our fault and neither was her. Just HIRE MORE STAFF!

Some of the best Thai food out there.. Owners are in-house, And the friendliest people youve ever met..The staff is so friendly also.. Beef jerky, Coconut shrimp, And Cashew chicken..yummy.. What a great experience..

Hands down the best pad thai Ive ever tried!

Very friendly owner, chatted about our experiences since it was slow when I went in. Food was tasty.

Ordered the red curry. The curry was very creamy and flavour was full. However, the green beans in the curry were undercooked. Other vegetables were delicious. The waitress was friendly, but seemed very busy.

Ordered Pad Thai, green curry, and the chicken wings. The flavours are pretty good. Pad Thai was a bit watery but still tastes good. Pretty disappointed by the fried wings portion size because the description said 1lb and in the box there was only 6 small wings (half a pound) for $16. Beware when ordering takeout.

Hidden gem for wholesome, comfort thai food. Do yourself a favour and visit on a day when the rain is drip dripping on the outside window. You ll bite into your coconut shrimp and smile, as serenely as the buddha himself. Or visit on a warm sunny day and enjoy the patio. Either way you wont be disappointed as long as what you re hoping for is a tasty, relatively simple dish.

We had lunch here and enjoyed our meal and the hospitality. The meal was authentic, abundant and affordable. We will return.

An absolute gem in the beautiful city of Waterloo. One of the owners spent some time with my friend and I while eating and it was great. He surely is a man of many trades, being a painter, an incredible person and a great foodie. That experience alone sold us Now the food was also a mine of mysteries. We tried their number 1 dish; padh Thai. That was the most experiential padh Thai I ve ever had with such a magnificent sauce and such a beauty to it. $19.21 after taxes

This place was very disappointing. We ordered a pad Thai and a curry the food was very bland and lacked the Thai flavour. The mango sticky rice was also disappointing as it came in a spring roll form which was not described properly on the menu. Will not be returning

Had the Tom Yum soup and pad thai and it was all delicious. The soup was so flavourful and zesty! The pad thai was very fresh and a good proportion of noodles to vegetables to protein. Will definitely order again!

I m sorry the photo is bad LOL but Thai Sun is my new go to spot! The couple that owns it are so kind and the food is just immaculate. This time I ordered the pork ribs but last time we ordered pad thai with shrimp and the phad ba mee grip which were both 10/10. Definitely give it a try and you ll surely find yourself craving it just like I do!!

Service was really gentle and patient. The two owners here were very kind and humble, it was such a pleasant experience. The food here is pretty good, but the best is the mango sticky rice. Its an 12/10 and you should definitely get it here!!! Its definitely on the pricey side.

Best pad Thai in town!

I went here for lunch with my mom and sister and it was amazing! The service was quick and the patio is cute and quiet. I had the papaya salad and it was super fresh and delicious!! It s very reasonably priced, plus you get large portions :)

Cant share any photos because it all got devoured! Spicy peanut fried rice was WOW! Packed with flavour, but not overly spicy. You can add hot sauce if desired. Calamari was fantastic. Mango salad was super refreshing. Pad Thai had a milder flavour profile than the peanut fried rice but was also a hit. Shrimp Rolls were enormous! Everything was fresh and fantastic! We will be returning!

Pad Thai was over salted

Went for lunch, was greeted warmly by the owner. Its a nice bright restaurant with lots of plants and a great vibe! I ordered rice wraps, spicy noodles and red Thai curry. Everything was delicious, fresh, flavorful, authentic tasting & amazing presentation! All dishes had lots of veggies and tofu. 5 star all around...will definitely return!

Very nice staff, the food is excellent. #2 Thai restaurant out of all I have tried. Highly recommend the Thai beef Jerry and yellow curry chicken. Spring rolls are also very good! Vegetarian options: Many Parking: Park in the municipal lot behind the building across the street.

Pad Thai was not bad, though I think the pad thai from the Beertown next door was better. The main entrees vegetables needed some work. It felt just like some steamed veggies without any spices or flavor. The pork chop was, quite dry and hard.

Amazing food and experience

Food quality was great. Ordered an avocado roll and panang curry. The tofu and vegetables in both were so fresh! Also loved the interior decor! The owner was really nice, had a nice little chat about the restaurant :)

Food is always amazing! Staff is always so sweet and it is unbelievable how fast they make the food - never feels like you are waiting long at all! Highly recommend the Fab 5 chicken and shrimp dish it s amazing! Also great vegetarian options their tofu is delicious! Vegetarian options: Any dish can be made vegetarian!

What a hidden gem! This is one of the best restaurants I ve been to so far; the customer service was wonderful and so was the food and interior. I ordered the phad thai, oxygen noodles, and dancing noodles. Each had a really unique but enjoyable flavour - the dancing noodles are prob my favourite. Went on two occasions in which both my parents and friends had really enjoyed. There was also an outdoor dining option. Parking outside was from 8AM to 6PM for max one hour but we had no trouble finishing within the time. Would highly recommend this place.

Got Chicken Pad Thai on NYE. spectacular sauce when I ate it. Nuked the rest Jan 1 and just as good the next year! (dad joke) highly recommend their pad Thai, and their ordering system during Lockdown is spectacular. I even wrote in the notes section of my order that I would like a side of ground peanuts and they read it and came thru clutch! Thanks guys! Can t wait for my next order.

Good food, subpar service. Our order was mixed up and they got apps after the main course. There were only 7 patrons and it took like 45 min. The food tasted great, especially the coconut shake and Penang curry. Spring rolls could be better.

Home cooked Thai food by a mom and pop duo. The food is all delicious, and I have had my fair share of the panang curry. Meals come out quick on average, sub 30 minutes ime.

How can a thai restaurant mess up fried rice. I had especially said spicy and they put like a million pineapples instead. The food had no flavour. Idk if i just ordered the wrong thing but fried rice seems pretty basic to me.

We ate here on the weekend. Although the appetizers and atmosphere were really nice. The service and quality took a quick shift when entrees were served. Prior to serving us our entrees, the server asked if we were ready for them and we said yes. 30 seconds later, the food was served and it was cold. All 3 noodle dishes was cold. When notifying one of the serves, he said he would ask the kitchen to reheat it. My husband ensured that the reheating won t be in the microwave and the server agreed it can be done in the wok. 2 mins later, all three dishes are reserved and this time the outside noodles are still cold and only the middle part is warm, clearly showcasing that the food was microwaved. After being asked how it was, we were still honest about it being par and cold and no further solution was offered. Before pandemic, I used to visit this place often. Now we got served a $17 noodle dish with barely any vegetables and it was cold. Very disappointed.

Extremely slow service on the patio we waited over an hour for our food. The patio also is near a trash so it smells pretty bad. After all that I got my pad Thai and though the flavour was okay it was extremely salty. Could not finish it and wont be coming back

Got veg pad thai for takeout not 15 minutes ago and am so disappointed. the flavour of the sauce has potential, but it seems like a bunch of cold ingredients were thrown together haphazardly and not even cooked. Maybe the dine in service is better, but will not be ordering from here again and I do not recommend the pad thai.

Really love Thai sun, the food is delicious and they have a bunch of Gluten-Free options! They re very accommodating when you ask them for GF items. I am Celiac and have never had a reaction. Exceeded expectations in terms of flavour, serving size and service. Felt a bit elevated vs. usual casual Thai restaurants. Our server Isabelle was very kind and helpful too. Order the coconut soup, thai steak and cashew chicken/shrimp. Will be back for sure.

Best authentic family owned Thai restaurant in Waterloo. The best Thai food prepared fresh by Chef Pone and Sam straight from the kitchen. This is our go to place when we crave for the best authentic Thai food. Very reasonably priced!

Got the red and yellow curry. Really yummy! The red curry was a little spicy but nothing unbearable. Also, the yellow curry didnt come with many potatoes which was a little disappointing. If I had to choose one, Id go with the red curry!

Absolutely incredible food and a very friendly owner. Spice levels were absolutely incredible and the portions were very generous. Curries contained fresh vegetables and the food was the perfect blend between authentic and still palatable for Canadian tastes.

Definitely one of the top thai restaurants Ive been to. Our waiter was absolutely amazing! He was very friendly, helpful and the service overall was amazing. We ordered ginger tea with honey to start as it was a cold night. For appetizer we had beef jerky, which was very delicious. And main dishes were Spicy Noodle and Spicy Peanut Rice. All the food tasted good and overall the quality was good. For dessert, I was very excited about the sticky coconut rice with mango. It looked fabulous; however, the flavour didnt match my expectation which was a little disappointing. Overall experience was good. I would come back to try more of their menu options.

Thai Sun has become a great place for our family gatherings. The menu is solid and uncomplicated, the food is delicious, and the service is pleasant and quick. Definitely returning again, definitely recommend for students looking for great Thai food. Also! The owner is super friendly, and always a joy to interact with.

Although the place is not authentic Thai cuisine, the pad thai was well prepared the first few times we went. Portions are large but service is okay. Unfortunately the quality of the food has not been the same compared to a few years ago - now when we come here for lunch or dinner, the food is hit and miss. Monday does have a spring roll and pad thai special which is a reasonable price.

The pork ribs are a solid 10 out of 10.

The food is good and the owners are very nice. I must have gone on an off-day because my meal was a little cold and the plate was a bit dirty (you could see greasy fingerprints on it) but I would give it another shot :)

Rice noodles came all clumped together and not fresh at all, which we think may have been unfinished portions reused from another table. Soup also was room temperature and was not hot. Service was okay up until the bill came and the waitress (with blue-dyed hair) never even bothered to return to pick up our cheque and say thanks.

Always good food. I went back recently after a couple of years, and the menu felt as though it hadnt changed. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, though, as they do it all quite well.

I was surprised at this place since its kind of in the corner of downtown and not very obvious. I got the red curry with white rice and it was really tasty. I always love coconut current and they did not dissapoint me here. The chicken was tender and tasted really good with the curry. They guve you quite a bit of the curry and rice so its definetly a full meal. My friend had the pad Thai and apparently it wasnt really as spicy as she hoped. The spring rolls were $5 for 2 (they have a special every Monday I presume) and they are about the length of a pencil so a decent size.

I ordered the Pad Thai for take out through Door Dash. It was ready on time and I was greeted by a lovely older man who was so so sweet. He knew my name and the dish I ordered, and he proudly handed me my order. The food was hot and plentiful and tasted great. I loved the dish it had more of a peanuty taste than Pad Thai Ive had from other places... which I really enjoyed.

Amazing little family run Thai shop. Had the spring rolls and Pad Thai (both on special on Monday) and was not disappointed. The pad Thai was better with their homemade Thai Chuli hot sauce on it, but that is personal preference. I m from out of town but would come back next time I m in town
