Spicy Hotpot
One of the best Chinese hotpot places in Waterloo. Ordered takeout, all the ingredients are very fresh! Quantity is decent too. I ordered the spicy dry wok! A little bit too much oil, but overall good flavour and fresh ingredients! Packaged very nicely as well.
The food itself tastes amazing and I've been here several times. There was a metal thing that looked like a snipper inside of the soup. I just let the staff know that there was something inside of the soup and what she said was just 'ah' and then she brought another person. he asked me if I want the refund, and refunded the money without saying SORRY. They never said sorry for interrupting my time enjoying the food or anything like that. I am a big fan of this restaurant but I am a bit disappointed! + I wish there are bean sprouts
Good place for malatang! Only thing is you need to get at least 400g
Zhangliang is a unique hotpot/soup place compared to others in the plaza. It's sort of buffet style - you first take a bowl and fill it with toppings of your choice, ranging from vegetables, meats, mushrooms, to noodles. You pay based on the weight of your sides, and then choose a broth from classic, tom yum, mushroom and tomato. Prices are quite reasonable, I was pretty full and paid $15 + tax. I had the mushroom broth and really liked the flavour, especially with additional sauces on the side. Most of the ingredients were fine too, although I was a bit suspicious of the freshness of the vegetables, since they were just sitting at room temperature soaking in water. The kombu in particular tasted a bit un-fresh. It's a pretty small restaurant and very busy at dinner so it was quite crowded and I found myself bumping shoulders with other people. Overall, for the price and selection of ingredients, I was impressed.
The food here is amazing, hands down one of the best ramen places in Waterloo. Only 4 stats because the atmosphere can be kind of stiff, but the interior is super clean and well maintained. Again, the food is amazing, and all the flavors come together perfectly.
I ate here 3 times now, and all I can say is that flavour is a bit inconsistent. They’re pretty okay- but they’re quite different each visit. The noodles were okay- I had a better one last time. The popcorn chicken were also pretty okay, but it’s not your traditional taiwanese popcorn chicken.
It was my first time trying this restaurant. The ramen looks good so we decided to order the regular one and a braised pork on rice. The noodle bowl was pretty big and the serving was big too. The soup was a lot less salty and less flavourful than regular Japanese ramen. The braised pork has a layer of oil in it and it has a few small pieces only. The flavor was not bad. Service was good. You get 10% off if you pay cash.
Hand pulled noodles had the perfect amount of chew. Tasty broth and large portions! Popcorn chicken was good too :) My friend and I ordered the same spicy bone broth ramen (with beef) and were a little thrown off by the egg discrepancy. One bowl had a soft boiled egg half, while the other had omelette strips lol. Server was super friendly and accommodating, had a great experience. Clean and modern interior but felt slightly confined. Would recommend!
They sell expensive seafoods (scallops, octopuses, abalones and sea cucumbers) at a cheaper price. The malatang I had tasted so good!
Overpriced junk.
The spicy mixture is too unpalatable. It s all made of overly sweet sesame paste. There s no spiciness at all. It s almost sweet to death. Haha.
That s a little takeout for 30 dollars
The taste is not good, and it s too expensive...I ordered 29 and it s not very filling, and the seats are too few and crowded.
Enjoyed the house Ramen and enjoyed ordering/paying via phone making it quick and seamless.
The food is pretty tasty. But the issue is there are not a lot of options compare to others. No water is provided even after we finished all the food. I dont think they are even ready for their grand opening.
There is hair and the smell is too light
*BEWARE* June 13th, 2024 Please beware that this restaurant is currently CLOSED. I placed an online order for pick up since the restaurant is listed as open and my online transaction had gone through. When I went to go pick up, the restaurants windows were all covered in tarp and the open sign was off. I had to go into The Alley next door to ask and they said that this restaurant is currently undergoing renovations. The transaction had already gone through and Im now not sure how I can even get my money back. Extremely irresponsible for the owners to not update their operating hours and to let their online POS systems continue to operate when they are closed. Worst part is their default order online service is hosted by their POS company and not through Uber Eats or Door Dash or Fantuan, making it even harder for me to contact someone to somehow cancel or get a refund. I will reach out to their POS company but they dont even have a customer service line as they work with businesses, not customers. Im genuinely hoping they have set up some system to refund orders that arent completed but Im not holding out hope given that they didnt even bother to change their operating hours.
The service was fast and the ramen was pretty good. The broth was a little too salty but overall the food was decent.
Squid ball is tasty. But the noodle taste more like a Chinese noodles than authentic Japanese noodles.
Bad food, the soup s a mix of sour, salty, sweet and spicy but tastes disgusting. Im almost sure it s not bone broth soup but some sort of powder soup (but tastes bad). The boiled egg on top tastes like it s expired. Not so much service, no water or napkin served I have to ask for it. The server just gave me a small piece of paper with QR code on it and said nothing when I walked in The food as lunch ruined a person s day.
good
Service is almost non-existent. You get a ticket with QR Code when you sit down, you scan that and place order. I think you are expected to just order, eat, pay, leave. Im not one for service but here it does feel like you are getting a bit neglected. Food is pretty good. I thought its a bit expensive, and it is, but the portion they give you is huge and almost big enough for 2 meals Please indicate on your menu which one is spicy
Service was good, place was clean, I would say honestly their food was okay but nothing special. I would maybe visit again if I lived closer but its not worth a drive.
The place was silent, brightly lit and the atmosphere felt awkward. There were small ledges on the walls which were caked in dust. They served us cold tea, before we got our curry chicken and the original noodles. The noodles were good, but the curry was anemic and the rice was of poor quality. We ordered their chicken wings and found a hair. Overall, we left unsatisfied.
This noodle is so fragrant
The taste is so good and the portions are substantial. Original tonkotsu ramen is my favorite
Hmm Yummy Noodles! Salted Chicken and Bao is Bang! Generous Portion! The waiter WEN is very NICE!
wow best ramen i have try
wow!they frist day open!ur have to try it out!!!good taste ! Amazing service!
Phenomenal experience! Food was great, portion sizes were generous, and ingredients were fresh. The hand pulled noodles were awesome, and the pork belly/sirloin were super tender. Staff was nice too :) will be coming back and I m excited to see where they go with the menu
Really good bone broth Ramen!
Excellent place! The broth is spectacular, and the ramen tastes so good! Looking forward to seeing the new menu!
TOP 5 IN WATERLOO CURRENTLY ok let me be BRIEF - i got the curry noodles - broth was ok - NOODLES R THE BEST IN WATERLOO (stay mad gols lovers) - meat was also super sick genuinely such a good time - THE MUSIC IS ALSO THE BEST THING EVER - SO MANY LITTLE GOODIES IN THE SOUP I KEPT PULLING UP LIKE EGGS AND FISHCAKES U GET THE DEAL - reasonably priced and big portions - very nice servers
I ordered the noodle from skip the dishes. They did not give me a large container to eat so I have to put it in my on pot and eat it. The noodle has no taste at all and it taste like plain noodle with water. Also they only give me a little bit of noodle I am very disappointed
Decent noodles, broth was ok, popcorn chicken was really good though
Today I went with a friend to Mengami. This restaurant has a pretty small menu, with maybe 4 or 5 noodle soups, one rice dish, and then a few side dishes. In essence, its a noodle restaurant. We both got the original bone broth noodles, choosing hand-pulled noodles over udon and not opting for any additional toppings. The food did not take long to be prepared and when server, it looked presentable. Our waitress made the effort to turn the bowl to make it the most appealing which I found nice. Unfortunately the kitchen forgot to give Matti his egg, though they rectified it quite quickly and professionally. Overall, the food was pretty decent. There was a lot to the bowl. The broth was flavourful, not rich to the level youd expect in a ramen but better than most other noodle soup dishes. The pork was sliced thinly and had a decent balance of lean and fatty meat. The additional toppings such as half a runny egg, tomago, some bok choi, and nori gave it an extra touch. My only qualm, and this was a major one, was that it did not feel like I was eating hand-pulled noodles. They were decent noodles, but Im not sure Id call them hand-pulled and my expectations detracted from the experience. Overall, a generally positive experience, would recommend trying out if you have the time (theyre quite fast). Presentation: 2/2 Taste: 4/5 Texture: 0.5/2 Quantity/Quality: 3/3 Cleanliness: 2/2 Atmosphere: 3/3 Staff: 3/3 17.5/20 = 4.375/5
Delicious food, really friendly, and they made a vegetarian version which was fantastic.
Nice place
Great service. Good luroufan
Their soup is so flavourful and so much better than the ramen at many well known places. A must try if you re looking for a nice place to dine in the plaza!
I have a rather mixed feeling about this restaurant .. I ordered the braised pork rice a couple of times on Ubereats and it tastes quite authentic, but the unusual addition of Japanese tamago and Korean fish cake is rather subtle. This is not necessarily a bad thing and I understand the chef wants to be creative. However, one thing I really cannot praise about is the popcorn chicken, which smells a bit stinky and seems to be fried in expired oil. I will surely visit the restaurant and dine in in the future, but please be aware you might see the discrepancy between pictures from other comments and what you order from food delivery platforms.
Wide selection of ramen, and I like that you can change up the broth. Very flavourful broths and the noodles have a nice springy texture to it.
Server was friendly and helped us decide what to get. Thier Orginal bone broth ramen is soo good, and the takoyaki was very delicious!!!
A local restaurant with great service, food, and overall experience! Definitely a go-to place for noodles when you are in Waterloo! Variety of meals to choose from & sides are delicious as well.
great experience!good food,Amazing customer service.must try it out.
The store is newly opened this year, very new and very clean. The ramen and beef teriyaki are delicious! Pork Belly Bao buns were recommended, I ll try them next time!
Best ramen in Waterloo, hands down! Great services and food served very fast.
The service was great
Really friendly, chatty staff. Very minimalist decor. Tasty food, big portions.
Good portions, good food, and super nice staff. They did have a vegetarian ramen option!
Food looks nice, tastes okay. Fusion dishes feel a little disjoint.
just had a dinner an hour ago. We ordered a beef teriyaki and another menu, I and my friend tasted the beef teriyaki and it was a bit weird taste, but we couldnt tell that this food was gone bad. After the dinner, we just had a 5 minute walk on our way back and my friend felt sick a bit. I think the menu should be careful a bit during summer if food is not cooked whenever its ordered. btw, I checked other reviews on beef teriyaki and the quality of beef in the past looks better than now. I think something happens before I visit.... haha..... one more thing, please help me Waterloonian! It makes Waterloo a better place for dining. Keep it up guys!
I first came here because I wanted some typical Chinese takeout and my usual place was closed. I thought the menu was kind of small and kind of different, but decided to give it a try. The food was very good, I really enjoyed it. Im back today with my laptop doing some stuff and its very pleasant. And the food was good again.
Food didn t make me feel good the next day :(
Looks good, tastes subpar. Not much else to say.
Exceptional. If you are looking for really good Ramen, you wont be disappointed. Very, very, good soup! Also, the breaded chicken chicken was excellent, light and crispy.
food is not the best in the plaza.
Very flavorful soup with good portion of toppings. My favorite is curry bone broth ramen.
The braised pork was delicious and the people there were very nice
Place had a good atmosphere, though I came in expecting Japanese ramen but had a different experience. Still tasty, but not like traditionally styled Japanese ramen.
If we lived closer, wed be eating here at least once a week. Four of us tried four different versions of the ramen bowls. Each one was phenomenal - complex flavours, perfect level of spice, perfect toothsome noodles, loads of protein, melt-in-your-mouth egg and tofu, crispy fried-chicken strips for dipping. The service was quick and friendly. So glad we chose this spot for our mid-trip lunch stop!
Nice restaurant. They were very accommodating to us. Food was good. Wasn t what we expected and that was a good thing! We ll be back
Our server Owen was really nice and attentive and the food was delicious! I personally really loved the braised pork rice bowl
good good very good
My favorite ramen and guabao! ! Especially the Gua Bao is a must-eat! I have never had such a delicious taste anywhere else, it is rare. The service is also great and the boss is very nice. I ve been eating it since the first day the store opened! I hope I can do better and better in Loo. There are not many delicious food in Loo. I wish the business is prosperous.
Lately found out this store in the plaza which is a very chill place to dine in with your friends. We ordered the beef Ramen and the Curry chicken here and they tasted really good. I am obsessed with their soup and home made sauce. Staffs are polite and chatty. Love this place, highly recommended :)
I was amazed by this store. The place is quite big and the location is good. Everything from the presentation to the taste of the ingredients exceeded expectations! The taste is great, and it makes people feel appetizing at first glance, but the portion is not big. It is a more exquisite type, and the advantage is that the dishes are very fresh, the taste is moderately salty, and the heat is just right. The serving speed is really good, the color is better, and the price is affordable, the service is considerate, and it is praised! Want it next time
Delicious, the store is clean, and the boss is very nice.
Foods are delicious Owen is handsome
Good service and delicious food! Really enjoyed it! vegetarian friendly!
The noodles taste very good, the service attitude and environment are very good. It is a good restaurant that is hard to find in Waterloo.
food quality is getting very bad
Overall great food for the great prices. It s affordable for students and it was made with love. The pork in the original ramen was very good. The server was very nice and overall great place to eat and chill just for some ramen.
Very interesting duck experience. The spice on the duck tongue was super delicious. I even got special discounts with my LSIDiscounts app. The app was free to download and register on too.
I tried the duck head for the first time and was delightfully surprised. Their noodles were super refreshing and at such a reasonable price. I even received a discount with the free LSIDISCOUNTS app. Would definitely visit again!
Amazing never had food that tasted so good
Delicious
Great snack while watching Tv and relax at night ! Very fresh and awesome quality of the duck meat product, very authentic. Wonderful service attitude as well.
Delicious
I really like the flavors of the Jingwu series, the medium spicy is super refreshing, the taste is very authentic and the same as the domestic taste
