Rustic Mexican food and a signature mole poblano, in a vibrantly coloured space with a festive vibe.
Been here many times before and every time is just as good as the last. I recently came on the day with the Burrito special and I quickly realised that I've never had a high quality burrito ever. Like a takeaway burrito is good but this one was next level. I've felt the same way about every dish I've had here it's just a must visit for a Mexican food lover. Always a good time
Best Mexican food in Brisbane! I’m from the USA and one of the things I miss the most is authentic Mexican, but El Torito has the best I’ve found in Brisbane. They’re great value for money, the atmosphere is wonderful, and their food is all amazing. Folks who have celiac/who need gluten-free will be in paradise, almost the entire menu is safe for celiacs! The tamales and the cochinita pibil are my favorite but everything I’ve had here has been amazing. Definitely a hidden gem!
I’m not too sure if this place has changed owners but it feels completely different now? It was a quiet night and the service/food was slow which is usually fine when the food is good but this time the food lacked flavour and freshness. We ordered a side of guacamole and it never came yet we were charged for it. We were seated around 7:15pm-7:30pm and the place shut at 9pm. It was obvious that the waiter wanted to go home as she started to tidy quite loudly, turned off the ‘open’ sign and stood there awkwardly staring at us until we paid our bill. The whole experience felt off.
The most beautiful, authentic Mexican food. Wonderful service and the best Conchinitas in Brisbane! Beef tacos are also incredible, chicken enchiladas are delicious. You must try everything on the menu. We love to order a jug of frozen margaritas, order 10 tacos to share, sit back and enjoy the atmosphere. Take it slow, enjoy the vibe no need to rush. A small kitchen working very hard to put out wonderful meals! We will be regular visitors to El Torito!
El Torito is a treasure trove of authentic Mexican flavors! From the moment you step inside, the lively ambiance and vibrant decor transport you straight to the heart of Mexico. The aroma of sizzling spices and freshly cooked tortillas fills the air, setting the stage for a culinary adventure. The staff at El Torito exudes warmth and genuine hospitality, making every visit feel like a reunion with old friends. They are incredibly attentive, ensuring you have the best dining experience possible. Now, let's talk about the food - pure magic! Each dish is a symphony of flavors, carefully crafted with love and authenticity. The enchiladas were a personal favorite, bursting with the perfect blend of spices and melted cheese. The tacos were a delightful surprise, offering a burst of freshness in every bite. And let's not forget the drinks! The margaritas are nothing short of legendary, providing that perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and just the right kick. El Torito is more than just a restaurant; it's an experience that leaves you with a full heart and a happy belly. Every visit to El Torito is a reminder of the beauty of Mexican culture and cuisine. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a taste of true Mexico right in the heart of West End. ¡Viva El Torito! 🌮🎉
Yummy yummy home style food, tasty, full of flavor, and served with love. Yes service is slow, so expect that, but very nice and friendly staff. Yesterday I went there for the first time, we tried a few items, Tacos was my favorite 😍 but margarita was my disappointment 🤷🏻♀️
Over the years we have visited this authentic restaurant many times. We have always received good, tasty, spicy no frills food. If you like your Mexican hot 🔥 then this place will give you your fix, but make sure you request his special chillies. Definitely don't come here expecting Tex Mex food this is the real deal, homestyle cooking
Wonderfully authentic experience. Family owned, family vibes, homey delicious food. A hole in the wall I cannot rate highly enough. The only place that does mole or horchata I've come across in Brisbane. The food portion and quality is wonderful for the prices they have. And they accommodate taking home left overs. Staff was lovely and I cannot stress that enough.
So good! The most authentic Mexican food you can find in Brisbane!!!
100% legitimate ingredients! Born and raised in Guanajuato. This restaurant has my respect and I recommend it to a THOUSAND! Long live MEXICO HDSPM
Such a great place to share with friends, the food was amazing thank you very much for the service and food 100% Mexican taste
Beat Mexican Ive had in Australia yet, also good gluten free options! Thanks guys!
Ridiculously slow and poor service. Sat around for a long time to get any type of service and the first drink (very quiet at this stage) and never provided water. Food was OK. Lacked spice. Also felt as though after the first cocktail no alcohol was in the glass or very little.
I love this place. I must have eaten here about 15 times now and every time have left impressed. Great authentic Mexican food (the tacos are amazing) and atmosphere. And run by the sweetest family to boot. A must visit!
Great evening. Good selection of Mexican beers. Mojitos were sublime. The food was authentic, portions generous! Service was friendly and warm. Definitely check this place out! We ll be back!
I m tired so short, it s good, try em out.
I am unsure how this is a 4.4*
Waited over an hour for our food, which was okay The staff were good and polite Food
Typically Mexican and hearty dishes The service is efficient, welcoming and smiling The quality/price ratio is very good
I am Mexican and I just love this place, the food is amazing and the flavours are authentic, specially the enchiladas, my favourites dish ever! ohh I also enjoy las traditionales micheladas from Mexico City.
We were fooled by the reviews...this was truly awful, I cant remember a worse meal, zero service, Im pretty sure there wasnt any alcohol in the cocktails, bland soggy food, we waited an hour for it, and it was pretty much inedible. They asked how it was, I said awful actually and they just giggled
The atmosphere was amazing and the staff were so lovely
This place is just amazing. The food is the best Mexican I have had in this country.
Great service authentic freshly cooked dishes Good prices Friendly staff
The room was so good! Made with lots of love and unbelievably tasty! The service was amazing!!
The attention of the owner and his team is very good, warm people. The food was delicious, I liked the nachos. The facilities could be improved, especially the bathroom.
The food was amazing! We had the Frijoles charros as a starter, then the tacos and chimichanga. Ive had tacos and chimichanga before, but this was the best ever - so flavoursome. Also Sally enjoyed the Mexican Horchata. Coming back soon! Food
Good food, very good staff service, the only thing to improve is that the food and the cocktails take a little time,
I was really excited to try the food from El Torito as they were shut for some time. The food was amazing and chicken mole cooked to perfection, service very polite and on point, I didn t even wait too long to pick up my takeaway order what disappointed is the portion size, I would have expected a bit more from a Mexican joint for $24. I ll give them another shot in future for sure as the food is top quality!
Great staff and excellent service. Food and pina-coladas were great .
Fantastic as always, great service and good food
I love Mexican food but this was genuinely one of the worst dining experiences Ive ever had. Service was unbelievably slow, other people who arrived after us were served before us, people who ordered after us received their food before us. They werent particularly busy and we had to wait nearly an hour after ordering our food before the first dish arrived. We didnt order anything complex or extravagant. The food was clearly just left on the stove the entire time because everything was partially burnt and chewing the meat felt like I was chewing gravel. I dont even know how you turn chorizo into gravel, but they succeeded. If it werent the fact that it was late, I was starving, and I knew I was still going to have to pay, I would have sent it back. We contemplated getting up and leaving whilst waiting multiple times, but decided we needed to give it a chance. Safe to say we regret that decision. Extremely disappointed after seeing the positive reviews. Assuming we were just left in the dust unfortunately but it was bad enough I will never be going back or recommending it to anyone.
This place was an overall bad experience. The service was really slow and the restaurant was not busy. The food took about 45 minutes to bring out our entree which was literally nachos, whilst they had served people who ordered after us their main meals?? The waitress did not understand us when ordering and messed up our order 3 times. All the food came out overcooked and burnt like it had been sitting under a heat lamp/grill for 25 minutes. The plates we were served our food on were boiling, which we were not warned about and burnt our hands moving the plates. The food was bland and didn t have much flavour. If it wasn t for being after their closing time we would have sent the food back and ate elsewhere.
At first we had low expectations with the look and aesthetic, however if you go past the photos on the menu and online this place was an amazing little find. The tacos and burritos were great portion sizing and BEST PRICING in the Brisbane area for some Mexican!!! The tostada was a new one for me and in future I would do it without coriander however was a great, simple Mexican find that I would recommend for anyone!
This is without a doubt the best Mexican in Qld. For those who need a cheap eat check them out. For those who enjoy traditional and magnificent cuisine for a beautiful date night, this is your spot. Wanting cheap margaritas and cheap tacos? El Torito has you covered. This owner and staff are so sweet and the food is beyond words. Despite ordering 8 different things in 2 days we have yet to find one we wouldnt order again, it makes choosing a meal hard. My personal favourite is the Conchinita (pulled pork), the best Ive had anywhere in any country. I cannot tell you how much you need to go here and spend all your time.
Restaurant inspired by Mexican food. The taco tortillas were cold, however, the food tasted good. The horchata water is small and the preparation is a little far from Mexican horchata. The service is extremely slow, and the staff is not very familiar with the establishments dishes. In general the place needs a deep cleaning.
Fab food, great prices with a quirky atmosphere. Staff were super polite, food was delicious with lots of GF, Veg options and my partner says the margaritas were great!
MY WORST dining experience ever and Ive been around a long time and dine out at least twice a week. 21 dollar nachos was literally a layer of shop bought corn chips with around 2 tablespoons of very bland sub par something or other on top with a token gesture of sour cream and runny guacamole...all tasteless and presented like a 2 year old plated it...we should have got up and left then!!! How the Hell can you mess up nachos??? My local mex up the coast has amazing 16 dollar nachos I cant finish. The burrito was small and void of taste again, lettuce was brown around the edges and all sitting in a pool of liquid and the cook seems cheese phobic! The wait staff were sweet but untrained and English as a third language made it hard. They mistakenly doubled our bill due to untrained staff trying to get their heads around a time consuming tablet ordering system. Got that fixed but still came to near 100 with three awful beers from a selection of 2 other more awful beers and still hungry. Fronted the owner about our displeasure and he just shrugged and said everyone has different tastes while thats true some taste would not be an unreasonable expectation. Honestly, this place was appalling. No effs given for quality or presentation. Makes me think its just a money laundering exercise as no restaurant owner could be this bad...really??? Some positive reviews and pictures here are blatantly contrived and the website is nothing short of fraudulent advertising. Disappointing start to a night out! A case for consumer affairs Minus 10*
The food was incredible! Felt like I was visiting a friend and enjoyed a home cooked, authentic meal. The service was like you were close friends with them! I would recommend this place to everyone I could! Complete highlight of my trip to Brisbane.
Best Mexican food I ve ever had!!! Amazing place and staff/ owner were lovely
Incredible authentic Mexican food. Tasty margheritas. Authentic and eclectic decor that along with the great service gives great atmosphere. Went here on a Wednesday night. No reservation required but booking via SMS very easy and got quick reply. Food was incredible. I ordered a Margherita and the chicken chimichanga. I cannot stress enough how delicious this was! 10/10 would recommend.
Staff was super friendly, amazing food and drinks, being from the states ive had some real spanish food, and this definitely fit the bill better than any other place ive tried in QLD. Would definitely eat here when im in aus again.
Best spot in West End for dinner.
food took nearly two hours to arrive, tacos will little filling and no sour cream, salsa or guac on the side. $100 for say 6 tacos, nachos and two drinks (which werent great). I wont be going back
Weve waited 1.5 hours to get any food, even appetizers took that long. And drinks took 45 minutes. By the time you get the food you just want to get over with it, there were people in the restaurant who were saying if the food doesnt come in the next 5 minutes they would be leaving. The food was okay, it lacked something to make it pop. The drinks were the only thing that were great.
DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Worst most bland Mexican Ive ever had, Taco Bell probably offers better food. The food came out and our hearts sank, disgusting you should be ashamed of yourselves. The margarita we ordered had barely a wiff of tequila in it, served in an old plastic cup. Would not recommend, save your time and money and go somewhere else!!!
Im only giving this one star because I had to. Not sure what the other reviews ate off the menu but we certainly didnt have the same experience. We were there for opening on a Friday night. Possibly one of the most disappointing dining experiences weve ever had. We were excited to try somewhere new and made the trip into went end to check it out. The portions sizes of the tacos and quesadillas for the price were terrible. The taste was even worse. Well, saying taste is even being generous, as it was all so bland. There was just nothing there. Some heat from the spicy chicken maybe but that was it. Where was the salsa?! The freshness?!! I would bet my life on the fact the $14.50 shaken margarita had no tequila in it and it was room temperature. Tasted like bottled margarita mix and nothing else. The service was fine and pleasant enough. Its not the servers fault the food was atrocious but I wish we had said something. We just wanted to get the hell out of there. So we did, with $66 less in the bank account, absolutely starving and so miserable after such a terrible dinner. Oh and the menu on the website has old prices on it. So when you rock up, everything is more expensive than you think its going to be. Dont bother.
Great food!!! Large burritos but all food was very delicious!!
This would have to be the WORST restaurant I have ever been to. It was such a disappointment for our sons 21st family dinner. We waited 40mins for our first drinks to arrive, then again for next drinks and the same for our food. The meals were tiny & tasteless. They still charged normal Mexican food prices. Very friendly, very young staff. I really cant understand how this restaurant is still open.
40 minutes to get our first drinks. Food was extremely slow and portion sizes were tiny. Had to stop for food on the way home. Staff were friendly however. Won t be going back
What a stitch up! The website prices don t match the actual inflated menu prices. I pointed out the conflicting information but it fell on deaf ears. The food was incredible bland. The cocktails were a disappointment. The service was veryyy poor. The building acoustics are terrible. Don t waist your money
Food prices dont match the website, and are much higher than would be expected for quality of food. Portion size of the tacos was disappointing. Food (enchiladas) lacked flavour, ended up leaving thinking I couldve done better at home. Save your money, walk further down the road.
Delicious food with excellent friendly service
Delicious! Eat here.
Great place for authentic Mexican.
Overall a disappointing experience. A total of 2+ hours to receive any food item, just to be disappointed by presentation and general flavour. Given the excuse that everything was being cooked to come out at the same time, and then that didn t even happen. Having to reorder tacos that were forgotten after said 2 hour wait, which incurred another 15 minutes of waiting. Not worth the wait or price. Drinks underwhelming also, as well as taking a long time to arrive.
The food was incredibly good, the staff was lovely and the atmosphere was great. Long wait for food on a Saturday night but so worth it.
Very very noisy
Decidedly Average
I loved eating there, food is just amazing; enchiladas are gorgeous and the waiter Armando is the best; he was always looking after us. Highly recommended!!
The best Mexican food I ve ever ate
Really good food!
On the recommendation of a friend, we went here for the first time tonight. The food is genuine Mexican, rustic homestyle food. My four kids aged 5-14 enjoyed their meals, likewise the three adults. We ll come back. Comida rústica hecho bien. Nos gustaron los varios platos, tuvieron sabores auténticos y frescos.
I had a lovely dinner with my girlfriend here! Beautiful atmosphere with gentle music, food was delicious and service outstanding!
Great
Local gem. Tacos always delicious and margaritas great.
Good food
Excellent food. Very friendly staff. Perfect for a relaxed evening of chat, snack, drink and dinner.
We have been coming here for over 20 years. Food is always great and authentic. Congrats to George and the team.
Delicious food served in a homely and welcoming space. We had a couple of margaritas followed by the chimichanga and cerdo en salsa verde - everything was delicious. A must try in Brisbane!
Great food, very authentic and a lovely atmosphere! We ordered the chicken enchiladas and pork burrito and they were both great (the enchiladas were our favourite!) Didn t have to wait long and the waitress was very kind and prompt.
Some of the most delicious Mexican food! Had the enchiladas, the chimichanga, and the tamal, and all was amazing. Very genuine and cute colourful aesthetic. Drinks were also great. And my favourite thing was the flan. Goosebumps. Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie options!
Food is absolutely killer. And a bargain
Feels like Im in El Salvador absolutely! Very friendly staff and food is just yummmmmm!!! Food
Amazing Mexican food! I ve been many times and will keep coming back.
Nice food, but the slow service was the let down. Waited about 25 minutes for mains and 30 minutes for the flan. Restaurant wasnt full either.
Best Mexican restaurant in Brisbane. Love this place.
Amazing food and Management still the same after 20 plus years!
Obligatory 5 year check in - this place is still the real deal! --- A fantastic restaurant run by fantastic people. This is a place where you can get some really authentic Mexican meals, from a Mexican chef. If you like spice, then you are in luck. Jorge grows his own chilli (habanero, scorpion, etc) in his own back yard, so if you want a kick, he can accommodate! Also, this place has the best Micheladas in brisbane. Order a spicy Michelada and when you have proven your spice, order a mega spicy Michelada. An amazing drink. Love this place and its always a pleasure.
really nice! had a great dinner with friends, great drinks too
Authentic food Delicious and fair prices. 10/10 Food
Super authentic Mexican food, loved the margaritas! The cochinita was amazing. Best traditional Mexican I ve ever had! The staff were delightful :)
The best place to get delicious authentic Mexican food.
Amazing FRESH authentic food. Reasonable prices and great service. Our fav Mexican restaurant
Just ordered takeaway (a 5 minute drive from my house) and as you can see the nachos are completely soggy and falling apart. Very disappointing as it is not a cheap place. Better off sticking to Guzman.
Very cute place to eat. Tacos and chimichanga were delicious. The staff were really friendly
Ive been to Mexico and this is honestly the best authentic Mexican food Ive had back home. Delicious and they even have mole. The owner and staff are also lovely.
Some of the best tamales. Great service from a small team.
Tasty food with good quality and great service
The Mexican food is good and quite authentic. We recommend the jalapeño margaritas.
This is one of the best Mexican restaurants I have come across in Australia. Whenever I visit Brisbane, I make it a point to visit this place and I have never been disappointed. I have tried all vegetarian dishes. Its delicious and authentic. Do visit and enjoy good food with cool vibes!
Had their Rose Mojito Special, it was amazing! Their food never disappoints. Thank you for your great food and service!
Seriously, what is all the hype for? I can honestly say that I ve had better nachos at practically every cafe or pub that I ve ever ordered them at. These were miserly in serving size and the toppings were strictly rationed and plonked in the centre of the plate with nothing but boring dry chips all around. The chicken chimichanga was bland, small and surrounded by an abundance of shredded lettuce. The second star is purely to the credit of the lovely waitress that served us. Definitely a one visit restaurant for us.
Food was delicious will definetly come back good staff and atmosphere
We waited 1hr for our food. We understand that the place is small and the tacos fell apart, the tortilla broke. We are not coming back.
The BEST Mexican restaurant in Brisbane!!!!!
Delicious food, lovely warm staff. Thank you!
Best kept secret - amazing food and people!
Not just an Aussie Mexican with flautas and fish tacos, chincones and the like.
Excellent food, incredible service and with great humility!! Highly recommended
Real authentic Mexican. Cooked from scratch when you order. Love it
We loved this place! The food was authentic and delicious and the sangria was sensational!
Great food and amazing service !
The real deal for authentic Mexican, having spent significant time in Arizona were well versed in this style of genuine Mexican food and decor. No unnecessary fancy, high priced spinoffs or adaptions here. Just the classics weve been coming back for, for over 7 years now and will continue to do. Great service and the best classic margaritas youll find at a price other venues only offer at happy hour.
I always love to stop by here when Im in West End. If you want REAL Mexican, not Tex Mex, then come here. Their margaritas are excellent, but their most iconic things are the authentic street tacos. So many flavours to choose from! The wait time can be a bit long at times, but I suppose its ok cause the foods great.
Absolutely delicious - the chicken enchilada was possibly the yummiest thing I ve ever eaten. Great cocktails, delicious authentic food, lovely staff, good vibes.
Authentic Mexican food in family-run, casual restaurant with delicious tortillas made in-house. Stick with beer or margaritas - the wine list is very basic.
waitress got order wrong was told it would be 20 minute wait as they were busy.
Loved my meal there. Great flavours. Best Ive found in Australia yet.
Authentic Mexican food
So authentic
Great value and relaxed atmosphere. Very good service too
Probably the most authentic Mexican meal I have had in Australia. Yes they do serve tacos and burritos, but so much more. Chimichangas, enchiladas with mole sauce and the list goes on. Also they serve a great Modello N égratigna, dark beer. Definitely worth a try and maybe book a table! It s a busy place.
Amazing Mexican food!
Took almost 1.5hrs to come out with drinks and food. The quality was dreadful (some of toughest meat I ve ever had) and none of us finished our drinks. The venue is extremely loud even though it s not that big. Very narrow and hard walls without any dampening makes everything resonate. Waitress forgot the order as we kept reminding her. Still decided to polish cutlery as everyone kept looking around them hoping to either get the bill or order. Possibly one of the worst dining experiences I ve had in Brisbane the only redeeming quality were the nachos
I spent several months in Mexico and this is the place to go if you want authentic, the stuff a grandma would make. I usually get the Mole and the pibil, extra tortillas and a side of chilli. The tamales are really good and do yourself a favour, when they have the ox tongue (lengua) tacos, try them .don t be put off by what it is. The margaritas could do with a bit of work but great, real Mexican.
Personable people, delicious food, nice environment and an enjoyable experience. Their tacos al pastor, mole poblano and Pibil was exceptional. Dont forget their drinks menu too, we tried the horchata and margaritas Highly recommended and will revisit :)
Delicious traditional Mexican food. Unfortunately sold out of al pastor tacos however everything was fresh and delicious. Only one waitress so the wait time was a little long however she was very friendly and attentive.
Highly recommended, all the food was delicious.
If we could give minus stars, we would. Worst Mexican food weve ever tasted. The vegetarian nachos were inedible. The corn chips were burnt underneath, while somehow, the rest of it was completely cold. It was supposed to be beans, but it was just black gunk mashed and stuck to to plate. Simply awful. We will never go back there again.
New management and cook since I first went years ago. They are now serving actual honest to goodness Mexican food. Limited obviously by what can be imported but still! The mole and temales are amazing Food
Very yummy and delicious fresh and hot food . Authentic mexican so amazing Very good service . Food came out so quick highly reconmend
This place used to be good. But like most businesses in Brisbane, with low competition and low standards in the area, it seems like they quickly realised that they dont need to make that much efforts to please their customers. Hence, 45 minutes for entrees to arrive, very average food, cheap salad, very salty, (salad looks like its from a big mac) like all the subtility and love that the chef used to have was just gone. When paying at the end, the chef and the main waiter were in front of me and none of them bothered asking me if I liked my meal or if everything was allright at any time.. they just, dont care. Ps: 2 years ago this was the best mexican in Brisbane in my opinion, the food was amazing, subtle, the service was great. And by the way the staff there is still very nice and friendly.
Me, my partner and his family went to El Torito Mexican restaurant for dinner last night! I think this is probably in my top 3 favourite restaurants of all time. This place was absolutely AMAZING! Best Mexican Ive ever eaten. The nachos bean dip was the best Ive ever had. All of their meat was fall apart delicious. The tacos were all spectacular. I would eat every flavour if I could! They had perfectly balanced flavour. The beef was delicious. The mole sauce is so unique but delicious as well! All the food worked so perfectly well together to make the best meal ever! Rice cooked perfectly, beans seasoned well, side salad and dressing was yum and the salsa verde is some of the best Ive had. Has a great lil spice to it too. You have to come Here if you love authentic Mexican food and are visiting Brisbane. Especially because it is a family owned business!
Spent the entire time waiting for Gordon and his camera crew to pop around the corner. Table rocked like a boat in a storm, ordered a regular jug and came as a frozen. Enchiladas where tiny. Flavours where good.
A great experience, friendly staff. Food takes sometime but sit back and enjoy.
Fantastic Mexican food. Loved the Tamales and the variety of tacos. The tortillas are fresh and soft. El pastor taco, Chipotle chicken or pork taco and the chorizo taco are fantastic. Prices are reasonable too. Great place for a Mexican food fix! Will come again.
Food was tasty but extraordinarily overpriced. Paid $20 for an entree size of nacho s. Had to go down the road for burgers to fill our stomachs after eating here.
The food was ok - it was lacking something. Maybe it s authentic I don t know I ve never been to Mexico. It was definitely missing lime and coriander for me. The tamal was actually really tasty and simple. The tostado had good flavour but nothing amazing to be honest. I had the conchinita pibl which was very tender but was supposed to be spicy and I thought it was really lacking in that department. My friend got enchilada poblanos and said the mole was tasty but missing depth. The chicken filling was alright but it was all very one note. The drinks were very overpriced for a lemonade $5. Maybe I m being picky but we won t rush back. We thought we might to try the tacos but they re $6 a pop now and I think that s a little steep.
Best Mexican food Ive had in years
SO GOOD!! Ill be dreaming about the cochinita pibil and the hand made tortillas. I immediately wished I was hungry again so I could try another meal. It was the most traditional Mexican flavours Ive had since North America. Ill definitely be a returning customer! We splurged on drinks, tacos and mains and there wasnt anything we didnt love.
Love this place. Authentic Mexican. The food is absolutely amazing (the bean tamale/tamal is out of this world ), the drinks are unreal too. This will be my go to Mexican restaurant in Brisbane. 100% recommend!
Nice and traditional food, friendly staff.
Still my favourite restaurant in Brisbane. Been coming for 23 years. The kids love as well. Would recommend to anyone.
Simply great Authentic Mexican food made with love. The owner Jorge creates the real food that people love & eat in Mexico. I have eaten here for 18 years because of the wonderful food and great atmosphere. A West End institution.
Awesome. Actually Mexican food. Best Mole Poblano.
Fabulous authentic Mexican. I had the enchiladas & it was divine. Great margaritas also.
Amazing Mexican food! You can get mole, tamales, tacos, etc! Try the mole, it is delicious and authentic (picture below). The food was extremely tasty. It felt like a heartwarming home cooked meal.
Delicious spread or Tacos! Clean place. Great service!
Tasty food but cant split the bill!
Probably the most authentic Mexican (along with La Patrona in New Farm, but thats expensive) food which youll find in Brisbane. The decorations, dresses, and other presentation factors are exactly like what we get back at home in Texas/Mexico. Food is not Australian Mexican, it is Mexican Mexican for sure. 1) The frozen margaritas couldve used a bit more tequila, as well as being thicker/more frozen. 2) The Mojitos lacked the subtle taste hints from the herbs. The alcohol used in them seemed different to other mojitos. Will definitely be going back, the food was fantastic especially for the price. Probably the best Mexican food in Brisbane all things considered. Really appreciated the free dessert for my birthday :)
We knew this place would be amazing the moment we looked at the menu & saw all of our favourite dishes...handmade tamales, tortillas, mole, salsa verde, horchata, etc! We were told there would be a 45 min wait for the food once we ordered but that did not deter us. It s been two years since we had an authentic Mexican meal & it was worth the wait! And, our server was gracious & attentive to top it all off!
Great local restaurant. Food is superb
Delicious, filling, good atmosphere and service was nice.
Authentic Mexican food and probably the best I ve had in Brisbane so far quaint little place, delicious tacos and enchiladas. Everything from the rice to the side salad is fragrant and has fantastic flavours.
Delicious Mexican food. Authentic and inexpensive. Cant beat $4 tacos!
Great food. Great service. Was very happy to find such an authentic restaurant close by!
For M on our trip around the world in Brisbane we chose Mexico; and thus went to El Torito to immerse ourselves in a truely authentic Mexican culinary experience. Thank you for the restaurants warm hospitality, and pride in their food culture, which really shone through in the restaurants decor, the quality of what was served, and authentic friendly and well informed service. Drinks: We had the special mango and blueberry margaritas and home made lemonade. The regular margaritas also looked enticing, but as I drove, I limited myself to one. Mains we had included: Chochinita Pibil, which was pork marinated with achiote, black peppercorns, orange and lemon juices. Served with rice and whole beans. Id have to say it was light, with delicate, well balanced flavours that showcased its ingredients in such a delicious way. The brown rice was fluffy and soft perfection. An ensemble of tacos as recommended by our friendly waitress, a very helpful young Mexican lady, who was rightly proud of her food culture. All of the tacos were delicious, with wonderful flavours and textures that transformed our understanding of tacos. Lastly, the young one ordered nachos minus sour cream. Despite the ingredient deletion, the nachos were also satisfying. Dessert: We had two apple flauta and the caramel flan. All were nicely balanced with their sweetness and flavours, not too sweet, and rounded off our meal nicely, even with the chocolate sauce, which you could adjust to your taste. We had a lovely experience and could only recommend it to others who are looking for a casual and friendly establishment that turns out excellent food, whether passing through on your way to some other places in the area, for which there are many, of just to have a meal in West End, as we did.
Absolutely fantastic food and lovely service. Will definitely be back.
The best traditional Mexican cuisine in Brisbane. Edit: was the best but tonight went back and ordered the Enchillada covered in mole sauce. No where in the description did it mention it contained peanuts. Im allergic. Had to pay for a meal I didnt eat. Will not come back.
By far one of the best Mexican food I ve had in this city. To make things better everything from the taste to the service was comforting and authentic.
Fabulous home style cooking. Friendly and warm staff. Recommend the chimichanga, tamarind frozen margarita and Mexican hot chocolate. I visited twice in May 2021 and was very satisfied both times!
Best Mexican food I ve ever eaten. I had the Mole Poblano which is such a unique dish. I also had some tamales and a delicious margarita. The service was on point. The staff were very diligent and made good recommendations but not overbearing. I have eaten here a few times and the quality of the food is consistently amazing. Recommend calling to make a booking as they can be busy, but sometimes you can walk in.
Really good Mexican food and the service is great . I had tacos , theyre so delicious. The drinks and alcohols here are cheaper than other place and their Pina Colada is amazing ! Will come back again
Excellent burritos
Went to this restaurant based on the good reviews, however was fooled by the reviews. Ordered the tacos which was flavorless and soggy and chimichanga - chicken tasted old, tortilla was soggy and plate was hot when it arrived like it had been microwaved. GYG is definitely better!
Nice, cosy place with great tasting food!!
Generous servings of freshly prepared flavourful yums. Friendly quick service. Highly recommended.
Brilliant Mexican!!
A local spot for us. Food was good and reasonably priced. Good margaritas!
The best burritos de la casa Eve. With a home made taste. The food is exquisite and delicious. The best in Mexican food in Brisbane
Delicious! $21 for a combo meal worthy of sharing with your significant other. BYO @ $2pp sweetens the deal
Small portion sizes, poor and bland taste. I wouldn t recommend. The bean mix is just a blended bean paste which isn t appetising.
Authentic mexican food. Cheap and delicious
Great place, yummy food and good prices. Very friendly service.
I think it was reheated microwave food because all the dishes were very watery. But they still tasted good.
The best Mexican food in town. Not just the beef is slow cook, as the orders take a while to be ready, but it s worth every single minute of wait. Great food, amazing fresh pineapple juice!!
Best mexican in west end and one of the best in bne, very good service but do not expect a fancy restaurant...the place needs some love
Amazing service, very friendly and so helpful. The food was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Amazing flavours, huge serves, wanted dessert but after finishing the delicious meal I couldn t eat another bit. Definitely coming back
Ok, I understand that you like to stay to the authentic Mexican style. I just feel the flavour and taste that I am used to such as taco seasoning was missing. The food was boring and bland. Perhaps it not to my taste and other people might like the style.
Good drinks, terrible food, salad tasted like dirt. Rice had no flavour. 4 of us went, 1 got a good meal.
Inappropriate treatment from the manager to the staff and very pushy at the moment of paying the bill and leave the place. I will think twice to come back.
This place is amazing. Definitely book ahead because you want to be sure you can get in. Menu is going to be about 50/50 on authentic and texmex classics. Definitely try the cochinita pibil, mole, or chilaquiles. If youre feeling adventurous, try the jalapeno margarita.
If youre like me and want authentic and mouthwatering amazing tacos then this is the place you want to visit. 27 out of 10
Booked a reservation 2 weeks in advance, rung to check and they didnt have a reso, so booked again. Went there, waited at door for ages, then went up to counter, waited for 5 mins before (im.guessing owner) came over. Told him my reservation name, he just said sit anywhere. He acknowledged that it will be a long wait for food. Waited 20 mins ,(didnt even get any water) and waitress came over for drink order and also food. Waited another 15 mins for drinks. Margaritas had barely any booze, im suspect if they had any at all, just tasted like a watered down 711 slushie. Food was hot, but chimichega and enchilada was tiny , maybe like 3 inches long each. There was only one waitress for whole restaurant around 40 people trying to order Asked for the hottest chilli sauce they had and just tasted like blended capsicums. Props to the waitress though, she did well and stayed calm, for her being the only one,
Authentic Mexican food.
Im from California and I havent had a decent burrito (or anything close to Mexican food) in over a year since I left home. The people working here are amazing, the food is delicious, and the overall atmosphere made it feel like I was back home. Ive ordered quite a few things from their menu and I loved them all, but their burrito is one of my favorites, as well as their selection of tacos. Would definitely recommend!
Great food
delicious healthy, I guess this is the real thing.
Really great Mexican food - we ve been here a few times and we ll definitely come back. We love this place!
Great food...very authentic...good atmosphere...Ill be back
Definitely a laid back and homey kind of restaurant. Very kind service and the waitresses were happy to explain each dish when requested. I had three tacos - veggies, pork and beef on traditional flour tortilla. All were delicious but the beef was the main star because of how juicy it was. There are plenty more to choose from and different ranges of the same protein, they have a blackboard menu for you to have a look! Great price, would definitely revisit for more in the future.
1st time ever that I really like Mexican food! Good quality and price.. Nice flavours, humble place and lovely customer service! Tacos are the BEST! definitely come back again!
Came in for the awesome smells, stayed for the pastor tacos! Make sure you have them with pineapple and chilli sauce. Lovely people, lovely food, nice friendly atmosphere if you want Mexican food.
Little gem. Very special selection of dishes. Loved the Tacos and had a spicy Michelada first time ever. Good value.
Cafe style Mexican, friendly service
Best pina colada Ive had anywhere. The frozen strawberry margarita was actually with mixed berries which was abit of a let down The prices were very reasonable for the food, i had beef enchiladas which came with beans and a basic salad. Very authentic The food made me feel like I was in Mexico but the quality was the greatest. But with the cheap prices you cant complain
