I came here 1 year ago and really liked the gourmet tacos so much that I had told my partner we had to go. Finally got my partner to join me and went with 2 friends. We order a drink while we waited for our table to be ready, my partner wanted to ask if they had michelada which we have had in other mexican restaurants, the michelada he has had is with lime & tajin and I always ask if they can make the colombian version which is with lime & salt (I forgot that in Mexico they call it chelada), we explain what we wanted and I remember saying the colombian one is with lime & salt, the drink we got was more of a cocktail and it had tomato juice. I honestly did not loved it and it was not what I was looking for, when we got the bill it was charged at $23 which might be fair for the type of drink but if I wanted a cocktail, I would have ordered another one. When we got the table and made the order, we asked if we could have the tostadas with guacamole first, but they gave us the tacos first. The tostadas were okay, they are probably better with more toppings. The tacos were tasty but I remembered them better, the sauces made them a big soggy when I had them. The music was super loud, it was hard to have a conversation and I felt that at the end they were a bit pushy about more drinks, dessert ... etc. They turn off the lights and pop the music louder I think it was an indication that they wanted to close. In general it was not too bad but I did not loved it.
This place has so much potential! I wanted to love it but from the second we sat down the staff forgot to bring us cups and plates. They got both our drink and food order wrong and we waited 45 minutes for our food. The food was the best part about this. It was delicious but a little too spicy for my taste. For 3 small tacos it was over $35 and this was not enough to feed most men. We would’ve ordered more if it wasn’t for the 45minute wait and the $$$. I would love to see some new seating or cushions as well because after sitting there for a while it was quite uncomfortable. I think some staff training would improve this place massively or even just writing down the orders on a notebook as apposed to memorising them! We watched a couple leave after waiting 10mins just to be brought menu’s. I felt obliged to review after reading how harsh some of the other recent reviews were and thought some constructive criticism would be more helpful :)
Wow! Just wow. We’ve been looking for a Mexican place we love and this beat our expectations. Everything we had was absolutely delicious in texture, taste and aesthetics. Vina is the best hostess ever. You’re lucky to get gifted some time with her. Thanks for the chats. Xx
What started off as a last minute booking for lunch, turned into being the best part of the day. What a great Mexican restaurant!! The food was delicious and proportional to what you would expect. We were hesitant to try the empanadas based on others reviews but I’m glad we didn’t listen and ordered it anyway because it was delicious. I felt the portions were a suitable size for lunch. The waitress made the restaurant an unforgettable experience with her warmth and passion for the food. Her recommendations were just what we were looking for. A truely authentic meal with a flavour explosion in each dish.
These are probably the best tacos I’ve ever eaten. This place has SO much talent: the food, balance and flavours, I’m not even sure they know it ! Please never leave Brisbane! 😊
Small, local and authentic! The service here was absolutely pleasant, all the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The food, slightly on the pricey end but was delicious and very filling. The only down side is probably the seats being a little uncomfortable but overall the experience was good :)
The venue features ambient music, themed decor, and cozy lighting, but most chairs lack comfort. The portions are small compared to the prices charged. While the brisket tacos were flavorful, I wasn't too fond of the empanada.
I recently dined at Mama Taco Mexican restaurant and had a generally positive experience. The food was delicious, with the empanada standing out as a particular highlight. However, I found the prices to be a bit on the higher side. The beef brisket soft tacos were especially tasty and left no room for complaints. Overall, a good dining experience, but be prepared for the bill.

Overpriced.
I visited Mama Taco to try the Mexican food, and we ordered ceviche and a burrito. The ceviche portion was so small, barely a spoonful! The burrito was cold, and the tortilla was falling apart. What a disappointment! When we spoke to the waitress, she wasn t very friendly, and despite leaving most of the food, we still had to pay for everything. It was overpriced and a bad experience overall. I hope you can improve because we love Mexican food.
Food the service and ambiance was perfect
This has constantly been one of my favourite places in Brisbane. The food and drinks and amazing and the overall vibe and service is just perfect.
Loved the service and we had a really fun night. Agree this is on the pricier side but you can see how much effort and care goes into each dish, really tasty food. My only criticism is I wish the booking time was longer!

Yep, definitely the best tacos Ive had. Balance was unreal. Blueberry and beef?! You guys are mad. Loved every bite. Spiced watermelon margarita is THE drink to get if you ask me. ;) First couple of food rounds came within 5-10mins then when it got busy service did noticeably get delayed. Honestly it makes sense given how much love you can tell they put into the food. Once we told the wait staff we had to leave by a certain time to be at a show, they made sure our final round of food was the next out the kitchen. Staff vibes were also awesome. Perfect blend of casual and professional. Made two friends by the end of the night. ;) If youre reading this... GO TO MAMA TACO.
Everything was so fresh and delicious! Staff were so lovely. Really gorgeous venue too. Mezcal float was a fun experience.
Owner/staff I engaged with were horribly rude and uppity. I went in to make a complaint about an oil spill in the shared carpark because my mum had slipped and injured herself quite badly so I wanted to notify them of the hazard and I was met with accusations of blame and a complete lack of consideration, none of the staff lifted a finger to deal with the issue. Not even a slip sign was placed next to the spill. Seeing the owners replies to reviews is embarrassing and makes me feel physically sick. Very shameful way to conduct a business.

Vibes were immaculate, service was even more spectacular. Especially Harry and the wonderful dark-haired lady (sorry, we didnt have a chance to ask her name). Fantastic tequila recommendation and tasty cocktails. The goat special was the most delicious thing and the duck tacos almost sent me to heaven. Pricey but worth it. Will definitely come again.

Fantastic food & cocktails as always at Mama Taco. It took 5-10 minutes to get a waiters attention to make our initial order, but service thereafter was pretty good. The bill was a shock, but we did have 10 delicious cocktails between 4 of us. I hate card surcharges, so the uncommunicated $13 surcharge pissed me off, but we still love the place.
Excellent food! It s very easy to make meat taste good, but I think the ability to dress up vegetables the way mama taco does in their roasted pepper and eggplant tacos show that the cooks really know what they re doing. While usually not a fan of eggplant, these were perfectly spiced with tons of cumin and had a very pleasant and warm flavor. I also ordered their aguachile which was like a bright and tangy fish ceviche that you scoop up in their homemade cronchy tostadas. Their tostadas have the added fulfillment of coming out to the table unbroken, so you can break them down any way you want! Their prawn tacos were incredible as well, definitely worth the splurge because you deserve it. For drinks I got their paloma and spicy margarita, and while the Paloma was not bad, I recommend the spicy marg as it delivers a very manageable amount of spice married with lime and tequila. Very vibrant atmosphere with community seating in the middle and private tables around.

If you want fresh, tasty amazingly good tacos. Come here!! the eggplant and the red pepper tacos are next level amazing and dont get me started on the salsa. I am so happy I found this place. Its the best!!!! you wont regret it. The staff are amazing, funny and polite. Their spicy margs are also like a little dream of goodness.
The food here was good, but expensive! I feel the portion sizes, especially the tacos and aguachile, were pretty small for the quite large price. Unfortunately our food order suffered a computer glitch and didnt get entered until 45mins after we ordered, in which time the restaurant filled up. This meant our quick dinner was over 2.5hrs long, and we didnt get offered an apology or any compensation. The waitress was pretty out of it and not very hospitable for someone in the hospitality industry! The bar stools we had been given in the middle of the restaurant at a share table were quite uncomfortable. So, tasty food, but I doubt well be back! Dietary restrictions: Good gluten free options

The most wrong and tasteless Tacos al Pastor I ve ever had. The recipe is 100% deviated from the original Mexican Tacos al Pastor recipe which contains mainly crisp-thin shavings of vertical spit-roasted pork, pineapple and coriander. Instead, the tacos there didn t even had a pinch of pineapple and/or coriander. On top of that, prices are quite high (wouldn t have been a problem if the meal was great) and the set up of the tables and chairs are so uncomfortable, almost everyone touching next person shoulders.

Ive lived in Mexico for close on 2 years and travelled the country extensively. While the tacos were tasty, they were a bit too messy. Two tortillas would be better as they do in Mexico. 3 Tostadas and a tiny Pico de gallo for $9... Too much. All in all, aloof service and far too expensive. Its tacos mate!!! FYI learn how to cop a bad review on the chin. Your response to one star reviews is unacceptable.
The manager I believe (blonde hair / Caucasian) seemed to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed and treated my friend and I like trash. Cocktails were mid at best, food amazing as always. I think management has changed from the amazing American man who used to provide amazing service (miss him!!). The Tommy s margarita they served was 90% lime juice 10% bin juice. The host was completely arrogant with my feedback and request to have a new drink. In hospitality the main goal is hospitality right? It s so devastating that this is now what mama taco is today, when it used to be the best spot for drinks and food in Brisbane, from service to eats!! Not coming back after this experience, shame!!
Decided to visit a new Mexican place instead of our usual go to. Wanted to like this place but unfortunately didn t hit the mark. We ordered the ceviche, eggplant tacos, classic margarita and burrito with duck. Margarita was good but felt overall that the flavours of the other dishes weren t that balanced. The duck in the burrito was exceptionally salty and the taco was a little oily/salty. Pricing seemed to err on the more expensive side. Saving grace was that the service was good.
Recently visited Mama Taco and I was thoroughly impressed! The staff was incredibly accommodating, making us feel welcome right from the start. The burrito I had was hands down the best Ive ever tasted - perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor. And the tequila? Absolutely top-notch, smooth and just the right kick. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic and delicious Mexican cuisine!
My recent dining experience was by far the worst Ive had in a long time. I made a reservation for a table for three adults and one baby at 8 pm. Upon arrival, they didnt have a table ready for us. Initially asked to wait for 10 minutes, we ended up waiting for 15 before being offered a spot that barely accommodated two people. We had to request to be moved elsewhere. Once at the new table, the waiter inquired about our preference for tap or sparkling water. Unfortunately, despite multiple requests, the water didnt arrive until after 45 minutes and three reminders. Although the waiter was exceptionally kind and even went out of his way to bring milk for our baby, the service was lacking. We placed our order after prompting the waiter. Strangely, they repeatedly asked if everything was fine, despite having no food on the table. At 9.05 pm, 40 min after ordering, we had to inquire about our food again, only to be told it would take 5 more minutes. Some dishes arrived at 9.17, while one was delayed until 9.25 a burrito bowl we specifically requested to be non-spicy, yet it arrived spicy. Disappointed by the entire ordeal and expecting some compensation due to the horrible experience and substantial delays, we received only a 10% discount, which didnt even cover the cost of one of our drinks. Previously, our visits here were enjoyable, largely due to the attentive staff. However, I would caution against visiting on busy nights as its evident they struggle to manage during such times
Greedy owners: Been here many times and I love it. But was so disappointed on Friday night when I booked a table for 10 people and was given basically the edge of a bench encroaching on the bar It was the kind of space you would typically be allocated for maybe 3 or 4 people, let alone 10. The plates and menus didn t even fit. It was comical. The staff are lovely, the food is great, but the owner clearly is trying to make more $$$ than they have the capacity to service. Reel it in big man, or lease a bigger space.
The responses to the low star reviews has shocked me! And has completely turned me away from trying this place out. I can understand that people can be unreasonable at times but how you respond to them reflects back on the business and level of hospitality just as much!
Mama Taco is a place you will want to keep coming back to for a great little feed with friends. Atmosphere is fresh and exciting, food quality and service didn t disappoint.

The service here is one of the best Ive experienced in Brisbane. The waiter was charismatic and entertaining - he recommended us the off menu empanada which was one of the best Ive ever had. The tacos were great too with authentic Mexican flavours. Their spicy sauces were delicious too.

Came for a birthday lunch when google maps listed the place as open. They weren t, and won t be until Wednesday next week. Employee got mouthy and told me call google myself when I let him know that if they re closed they can update the google listing to show that.

Decent burrito and empanadas. Tacos too oily. Overpriced for what you get, 100$ for couple with drinks. Extremely laud space on Friday evening, it feels more like a club rather than a restaurant for a date. Uncomfortable chairs - makes you want go quickly rather than enjoy the evening. Although the food was decent the overall dining experience is poor.

Great food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere. My wife and I had never been here before, but when we got here, we were spotted, and spoken to immediately. We were sat quickly along the long, shared table in the middle, which was communal and comfortable. Not something you typically see. The cocktails were varied and interesting, including things we dont typically see in other Brisbane restaurants. The waiter, Teddy?, was extremely friendly and personable. When we went to order, he spotted that we hadnt been here before, and asked us to trust his recommendations. We got some starters / small plates, and an empanada before sharing a few tacos between us. The amount of food was perfect. The seasoning and the flavor in the dishes were all immense. The two vegetarian tacos were exceptional. Highly recommend to anyone whos interested in mexican food, big flavours and a big, friendly atmosphere. Vegetarian options: Two vegetarian tacos, many of the small plates, and vegetarian options on the other dishes.

Had a great experience at mama taco tonight. Despite walking in just after 7pm on a Saturday night without a booking, they were able to seat me. Really lovely service, every staff member I had contact with was so friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely epic. I thoroughly enjoyed my chips and guac and couldn t speak highly enough or the king prawn tacos. I was so blown away with the tacos and the delicious complexity of the flavours. The paloma cocktail was also super yummy. Everything came out super quickly too. Couldn t be happier with my experience at Mama Taco!!
Was here 3 nights ago. The place & food is trash. Overpriced & underserved. The only chicken meal on the menu is $40, the portion is not even a mouth full! the chicken inside not even for two bites!? ridiculous! No spanish speaking customers - not a coincidence. Just emperors new clothes type white people.

Little Mexican gem in West End. Lovely service by the staff. Wonderful recommendations. They have one of the best Mezcal cocktail menu with the must try - diablo and bloody maria (off-menu). Their shrimp taco and lobster tacos are a must try. Ask for their off-menu empanadas . The tostadas with their house green and yellow sauce and other add-ons rock. They also custom tune the heat for kids... Finish off with their Mezcal flight! We are going back again.

Small servings and eye watering prices given the quality of food. Music is loud which makes it hard to hold a conversation. Has potential if you maybe just want a drink and something light before going out on the weekend. Don t come here if you are expecting an actual meal.

Food (tacos) was greasy service was friendly but very slow. The pub rock playlist was the biggest buzzkill! The food and friendly staff were fine but it s such a shame this place has major potential.
The food is good, but its nowhere near the kind of generosity or brilliance required to justify the prices. The smoky eggplant tacos were nice, but $22 is pushing it for a pair of tacos; $38 for a chicken mole tamale was grand larceny. At that kind of price for a chicken mole tamale, you expect a share-size dish thats heavy on the chicken and the mole, and this wasnt it. The service was great, and the food was nice, but at that kind of price it either needs to be blow-socks-off amazing or hugely generous, and it was neither. Also, upon further investigation, some of the responses here that the owner leaves to legitimate criticism of the food are pretty off-putting. If you are in the food business, then you need a thicker skin.

Its a 5 out of 5 from me, for everything...heres why. When people ask me out to Mexican restaurants in Australia Im often reluctant. I lived in LA for 3 yrs and had the best authentic Mexican food (dining out and made by my Mexican friends) and so its very hard to enjoy anything less than the real deal. When I tell you this place was an incredible shock to me. It is by far the BEST MEXICAN FOOD Ive had IN AUSTRALIA and better even than some places in LA. THE FLAVOURS are outstanding. - Love loved the off-menu Cheese Empanada - the touch of truffle oil makes this one of the tastiest things Ive ever eaten. - The prawn tacos are the best Ive ever had! - The chicken Tamala - yummm! - The drinks and tequila and mescal selection is really good. + Omg and the dessert some creamy thing I cant remember with toffee shard on top - to die for! Teddy who served / hosted us does his thing with excellence and he made the suggestions for our food and drinks - some of the best service Ive had in the world. I cant remember the bar tenders name (started with an M) and her cocktails were all amazing, ans she knows so much about Mescal! Get her to tell you about Mescal. Because Mescal is not anywhere near its level of notarity in Australia as it should be. The atmosphere is authentic Mexican chill vibes, nothing too fancy, which I loved. Please people keep this up! Youve got an amazing thing going with this gem of a restaurant...Ill be telling everyone I know and every tourist to come check out this place - however and whenever I can. Been a while since I was here, so not the most up to date review, to be taken with a grain of salt. Flavours were generally good and bar staff were friendly. Biggest issue for me was that the taco fillings have too much liquid so the tortillas get a bit soggy and the flavours are not balanced.
Would give 4.5 stars. Tacos and entrees were delicious. Mains were a bit lack luster for the price and a few our of items took a long time to come out, but overall a delightful venue with great service and yummy food :D

I was treated to a fabulous birthday dinner and drinks at Mama Tacos by my beautiful daughter The food was incredible fresh delicious light beautifully presented Phillipé who greeted us at the door looked after us so well. He knew the menu so well, what we needed and how much He also took care of our little one with special care All the staff greeted her which was so very nice for all of us Especially for her Ted doffed his cap and said bubba , she smiled I got a most delicious pecan pie birthday treat and song Please go and enjoy this lovely place with the most amazing elegant food & caring staff Thank you Mama Taco Marion
lovely atmosphere, super great staff and the most delicious food. will 100% be back :) Vegetarian options: everything we ate was veggo! Kid-friendliness: they were happy to make mild versions for the younger kids we had with us.

Ordered takeaway, after standing around for ages was given my food and went to eat in the car and it was completely cold and oily and the taco fell apart. The food, drinks, service was great. The customer service and hospitality was fantastic. Ted, the very warm, helpful, cool waiter had many great suggestions and was so awesome at servicing. He has fabulous attitude and just a boost of good vibes. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a cozy cool place to eat delicious food and delightful drinks. Best little Mexican restaurant to eat at, Ill be back
Vibrant restaurant in west end but music so loud we had to ask to be seated outdoors so we could hear each other speak. Also it s an open restaurant so in winter you ll need to rug up as it was cold inside and out. Service was fantastic and the margaritas were great.The tacos we chose were full of flavour although the pork variety was a bit too salty and spicy. My partner and I both felt the size of the tacos were too small - they fell apart in our hands as the ingredients overloaded the small soft tortillas. Overall a great experience but would not return here.

Best Mexican Food in Australia, especialy Lamb Tacos
This is the place for the best Mexican food and drinks in Brisbane. Relaxed restaurant with a good space and not at all pretentious. All the food was delicious, fresh and well presented. The drinks were great (best shaken margarita I ve had). And underpinning all this was fantastic and friendly customer service. We had a great dinner and will be back for sure. Highly recommend.

The service was second to none, we were treated like royalty. The food was even better. I have honestly never tasted food better than Mama Taco. The flavours were out of this world.
The dining experience at this restaurant offers a unique Mexican theme concept, backed by good customer service and well-presented dishes. However, there were some elements that could be improved to better align with the restaurants pricing. The culinary journey started on a high note with their tostadas served with guacamole, fresh cheese, Pico de gallo, and salsa roja as sides. The vibrant flavours set the scene for an exciting dining experience. However, the special empanada that followed fell below expectations. Although beautifully presented, the $25 price tag did not match the portion size, as the filling was scant, making it feel more like a pricy pastry than a filling entrée. The main course included tacos that, although flavourful, were on the smaller side and a bit too oily for our liking. The pork tacos were a highlight with their rich taste, but the prawn tacos struggled to deliver the expected prawn flavour amidst the other ingredients. Seating arrangements were primarily stool-based, which, despite enhancing the informal atmosphere, might not be the most comfortable choice for the duration of the meal. We appreciated the professionalism of the service staff but felt interrupted when we were gently reminded about the limited seating time. Theres potential for a great dining experience here, but there needs to be better harmony between the ambience, food quality, portion sizes, and pricing. Compared to other local establishments like Pepes or Montezumas, this restaurant has some catching up to deliver a balanced experience that justifies the cost. Dietary restrictions: Food is quite oily.

Food was phenomenal, the tacos were packed with so many different flavours that worked so well together. The service was hospitable and very attentive. Special mention to Ted for recommending me a drink that was spot on for a non-tequila lover, really created a welcoming atmosphere. Thank you for having us, we will be back!

we came here tonight for a birthday dinner. i had the mama burrito - i actually cannot recommend this burrito enough!! literally the best burrito i ve ever had in my life. i had it vegan and it was amazing. SO huge, flavourful, and juicy, and i didn t feel like there were any empty spaces within the burrito like i ve had at some other places. also, our server Ted was absolutely lovely - so kind and helpful, providing us with suggestions and useful recommendations when we were stuck! overall, it was a fantastic dining experience!!
The pork chorizo tacos & chicken tamale were so very tasty We were also very impressed with the cocktails & guacamole. We can t wait to come back to Mama Taco and have recommended to our friends!
Hidden little gem in west end. Burritos, tacos, margaritas. Delicious meals, friendly and jovial and friendly hosts, nice funky atmosphere. Affordable menu. Im going to call it Mexican with a reggae twist. They have something different going on which is very good.

My recent visit to this Mexican restaurant was exceptional. The food was amazing, especially the enchiladas, and Teddy, our waiter, was outstanding with his recommendations and service. This place is a must-visit for authentic Mexican cuisine and a memorable dining experience.
Great food and service. Unfortunately, too expensive with seating and the noisy environment being terrible for enjoying a meal out. I also paid an upfront $10 booking fee, which was unnecessary.
This place was very disappointing. Although it had a good vibe (minus the projection of the show Robot Wars on the wall? so pointless and distracting and zero to do with a Mexican or latino vibe), the food was overpriced and the service was lacking. Our very small overpriced tacos took almost an hour to arrive on the table and then when we wanted to pay at the end they wouldnt let is pay separately saying that it would take too long, even though there was only 1 or 2 other tables left at this point. So lame, would not visit again.
From the moment we stepped in very warm welcome. Asked for recommendations they said its all god and they were not lying. I got pork chorizo tacos there was no need for any extra sauce that was the tables as the meat was moist, the veg was fresh. It didnt need anything extra, the flavours were all there! My partner got a burrito i had to try. Again spot on. I cant recommend this place enough. The staff were amazing. Oh the Tommys marg 10/10 not a bad word to say. Thank you all kitchen and foh staff for a wonderful experience

Not as good as Taco Bell
It s amusing to read how the owner responded to 1 star reviews. The entire environment was good but $50 per person for that quality and portion I think it is over priced, even considering all the labour cost and rent for that location. Some of the dip/source in dishes are spicy apart from the source bottle on the table. I would recommend waiters to check with customers if they can handle or not when ordering. It s not my job to judge how to run a business but I would like to contribute to business owners who can reflect and improve. The responses from the owner to the low star reviews completely blew my mind. Will not go again.
Read the one starred reviews before you eat here and decide whether the owners rudeness wets your appetite! Very flavoursome food while not being particularly authentic, the berenjena taco was the standout of the four tacos. As others have commented, yes, its quite pricey (and oily) for the serving sizes. If only the tacos were as big as the owners ego, youd only eat one. I had planned on returning, but after reading those comments, no thanks.

Visited off a recommendation from a friend and am so glad I did! Insane food coming out of a humble space. The staff created a really welcoming environment that made us want to stay and keep chatting. Really cool decor and branding.
The guacamole isn t proper guac and it comes with 3 greasy tostadas. The tacos were oily/messy to eat and I wasn t overly impressed by the flavour or the way they looked. My margarita was also served in a fairly small glass which was virtually half full. I don t want to pay $20 for that. Overall we thought it was overpriced and wouldn t go back again. Reading the owner s comments to negative reviews also made me decide to give the venue only 1 star
Really want to love this place. Have dined here twice. The food is far too oily/greasy which really takes away from the taste. The chairs/stools are super uncomfortable which means we wont be back again, unfortunately (we tried twice, just cant hack it again, like to eat in comfort, not perched on a terrible bar stool). Margaritas were pretty good though, so theres that... ETA: Service was awesome!
