IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY option for cash and if you try to start a chat it freezes your brand new iphone. No one should put their details into that rubbish unless you like flushing your time and money down a toilet. also there s no option to delete your account

Ordered through DoorDash from here and as with any delivery service, you kind of expect the food to be thrown in a container and sent out. To my surprise though, Izakaya Goku packaged everything very carefully and attentively! I ordered the udon tempura with a side of takoyaki and it tasted great + serving size is perfect. Can t complain about the price either, very good value for the quality of food. Definitely will order from here again.

Terrible food, dont bother

We are new to the area so have been trying out the various eateries in West end. Despite the google rating of 3.9 and some pretty bad reviews, we thought the some were very positive, so we decided to try out a meal here. I m sorry to report that it was not good, and we won t be returning. The food really was not worth the money. The miso soup was the only thing we liked. We ordered the assorted sashimi platter $38 - strange, the fish wasn t cut well and never had prawns (tasted old) and oysters on sashimi plate? We then ordered karaage chicken, and ginger pork - even worse: karaage chicken was overcooked and dry (batter almost burnt) and not sure what the ginger pork slices were coated in but the stirfry was sticky/ soggy and inedible - we didn t eat it. So disappointing. I can t understand the variance & previous positive reviews - do the chefs change?? Quality control in cooking is a serious problem here. We won t chance it again.

Very good..myself and my 12 yo girl had lunch yesterday.we had ramen with pork with a boiled egg. The good... waited only about 10 minutes after seated for the ramen. Massive hot bowl of delicious chicken broth..the pork was fantastic. Noodles flavour fantastic.im not a fan of seaweed but miss 12 loved it..the spring onions really lifted the dish.i had a 500 ml beer .big cold glass nice head .it was a Japanese beer so not much like a aussie beer..price..very good for size and service. 3 ramune soft drinks 1 500ml import beer 2 bowls of ramen and pork in chicken broth with boiled egg and spring onion .cost 57 dollars. Well spent..the walls had some really cool posters..tables small but very clean with cool water chop stixs and napkin..the male staff member who served us was great.fast and attentive.tables were cleaned almost immediately. 10/10..the only gripe is it was a very hot day in Brisbane I dont think the air-conditioning was keeping up..air flow was needed. We travelled 2 hours too vist and would definitely will do it again..next time at night .10/10

If I could I would rate their food a Zero, I would! Stir-fry chicken tasted like it was cooked yesterday and wagyu beef was poorly cooked. My instructions were clear that I don t want soup. Yet the stir-fry had soup in it, a lot of soup! This is not worth a try at all. There are other good Japanese restaurants worth a try in west end! Don t waste your money!

There s the first restaurant I ve ever seen without surcharge. Best recommend aburi salmon don. The sashimi are fresh and delicious. Waitress are kind and friendly too. Will be back to this lovely place again.

I have eaten here in the past when visiting the area and the food was good. We had two takeaway Bento boxes today and unfortunately it was the worst Japanese food we have ever had. Beef weirdly slimey and the deep fried pork burnt. The cheap and nasty dumpling and spring roll were an odd addition to a Bento Box. Poor quality rice was also a surprise. Not a authentic Bento Box at all. Quiet expensive at $20 a box, no tempura, no miso soup just meat, rice and the weird mini spring roll and dumpling. We could not eat either of the boxes so an expensive waste of $40.

Extremely disappointed. We have eaten here many times and have always been very satisfied with the classic authentic Japanese food. After not having eaten there for several months, we were saddened to find out today that the interior and the menu are unchanged, but unfortunately the quality of the food has declined considerably. (they rather remind of a cheap Chinese fast food restaurant). On a positive note, the service was fast and friendly. The miso soup tasted good. Absolutely disappointing were the miso-glazed eggplant: unfortunately just deep-fried eggplant sticks doused with thick miso paste. Visually, it was more reminiscent of stale fries with rancid ketchup. The rice was also just tasteless and overcooked (this was definitely not Japanese sushi rice). The salmon skewers were tiny and overpriced, and all the plates were decorated with unappetising green salad leaves and too much mayonnaise. The rest (Agedashi Tofu, Squid Karaage and Takoyaki) tasted average at best and were probably ready-made products. Its a shame, but it seems to me that there is no Japanese chef working there anymore, and the replacement chef was unfortunately not well trained. We will probably not go there again. ------ Answer to the Chefs comment: Dear Chef, I understand and accept your disappointment with my review and would also like to point out that I mentioned that I was satisfied with the service today and with the food on my previous visits (and I rated with 2 stars because of this). I have liked the simple authentic atmosphere of your restaurant so far, and even tolerated the paper cups in your restaurant without comment. Today, however, I was so disappointed with the preparation of the most basic dishes that I suspected that someone inexperienced in Japanese cuisine had prepared them. I had already listed the basic shortcomings, from the poor quality rice to the portioning and preparation of the dishes. Im not alone in this disappointment, by the way, if you look at the other reviews. I love Asian cuisine, and especially Japanese cuisine, so I can easily form an opinion and make comparisons. And I have commented on my experience today. However, I find it impertinent of you to call me a racist because of this. I couldnt care less about the chefs cultural background. But I do expect the chef to be able to prepare proper Japanese food in a Japanese restaurant, otherwise disappointment is inevitable. You should see my feedback as motivation for improvement and not drive your customers away even more with insults.

Fabulous food. We had chicken kaarage, prawn rolls, fried lotus root, salmon andscallop skewers, eggplant dengaku and several other dishes. Iconic atmosphere and friendly effective staff.

Very cheap lunch but not delicious. The rice is soft and the meat is fatty.

Very average, we arrived early and was fairly quiet, quickly filled up with patrons, people bunched quite badly, our table of two had the back of another chair with another our food. Service was shocking, spilled water accidentally and asked for a towel to clean it up, girl came over and wiped it away with a wet cloth leaving 90% of the water on the table and floor. Ordered karaage squid, it came out half filled with chicken, alerted waiter and was still charged for a full bowl of squid. Drinks menu is very limited outside of beer and soft drinks. Food was generously sized however quality was not there, aside from aforementioned issue. Would recommend if you have children who love deep fried foods, otherwise steer clear.

Great taste and quantity for price

This place is a fave of mine. I often grab a few plates off the train for a takeaway lunch. You can sit outside at their outside tables or in the gardens. Inside I find very noisey as there are concrete floors. Today I had Tomago nigiri (egg omelette) and tuna/avo rolls (the sesame seeds are a nice touch). The sushi is really tasty! Very fresh. My friend enjoyed her chicken/avo and tuna/avo rolls too.

We had a very nice meal for two with 4 different dishes that all tasted delicious! And the prices were also good :)

my disappointment with the service I received during my recent visit to your restaurant . I have been a regular customer of ur resturant and have always enjoyed the food and service. However, during my last visit on july 18th, the service was exceptionally poor. Although the food was great, I had to get up twice and approach the waitress to inquire about the status of my order. This experience has left a bad taste in my mouth and has made me reconsider my decision to visit your restaurant in the future. Unbelievably disappointed to see disposable paper cups in use in a dine in restaurant in 2023. The amount of resources and energy that has gone into getting those cups onto a table only to be thrown out at the end is huge. Do better. Be better. I wont be back.

I had chicken karaoke, okonomiyaki, and gyoza. There are always a lot of people here It was delicious, and I think it took an hour for the order and food to come out.

I love this place for cheap and easy Japanese with great service. Who needs the fancy places, when the food here is to die for!

Went there yesterday with friends. Miso soup very diluted, no tofu in it. Spicy Chicken Don was okay except that I expected at least a salad leaf. It was hot yesterday and the air conditioning was turned off when we dined in around 3pm.

Good food for the karaage but the service is poor. I got the impression I wasn t welcomed there all because I was wearing my work uniform from another restaurant. I only went in to get something to eat nothing else. I was ignored by the waitress when I tried to ask for a takeaway box, resulting in me getting up to leave the table to actually get a takeaway box. The staff are so rude, treat your customers better.

Inauthentic Japanese food, albeit with decent service and nice ambience. They offer pretty pricey bentos ($35) with mostly deep fried food that isn t fresh. If you re in the vicinity, Bird s Nest and Okuman Karaage & Ramen Bar serve better and more authentic Japanese food. Don t bother dining in this restaurant!

Nice staff attitude and working very hard. But food isn t authentic Japanese, they are way too understaffed and seafood does not taste fresh. Perfect example would be waiting 25 minutes for two beers and 30 minutes for the first entree. Clearly inundated with Takeaway, Uber eats as well as dine in. Table next to me hasn t even had their orders taken after waiting for 25mins. Would return if experience delivery improves.

I feel bad for putting this review in but this was not a great experience. The food was very poor and there was minimal staff to clean tables and do orders. The young waitress was not stressed and did her job calmly, she must be use to this place being under staffed. The lad in the kitchen needs some guidance. For what we paid for the food, it was very underwhelming. Sorry

6 stars out of 5!!! This is a great restaurant, with $15 lunch specials, inclusive of miso soup and Japanese soft drinks. Theres a Japanese ambience as walls heavily display Japanese cultural aspects. Great service and, once again, great value for money. Strongly recommended!

Staff were friendly & great portion sizes for the price! Only $12 and got heaps of karrage. The karrage was average though, could ve been better. I did however feel sick after eating it though, not 100% sure if it s related but I had an upset stomach about 2hrs after eating it

We came here for dinner as we are shopping at Harris Farm. The food is good and enjoy the food.

Not much choice for gluten free. Also when served my iced tea it just came in a plastic bottle. I would have thought in a glass with ice would be nice. The Bento my son ordered was decent.

40 minutes wait for edamame, chicken, 1 sushi roll, and a gyoza

Teriyaki sauce tasted only of garlic. No even say sauce. The chicken Katsu was tender but was not seasoned well, so it was a very bland piece of crumbed chicken breast. The salmon teriyaki was fried and with no teriyaki sauce on it. Chicken teriyaki rice was only seasoned with garlic.

Come here to get ignored for 20mins and leave hungry.

Ordered take away. Waited about 20 min. Ramen was just ok. The package and sealing were good but the noodle itself was harder than I thought. The portion is big though. As for the okonomiyaki, they added too much starch and the cabbage wasnt chopped fine enough (I even found a cabbage with the size of a thumb!). I dont know about other dishes but I would not recommend to try their Ramen and okonomiyaki.

I was excited to go here but left with a disappointed feeling. Kingfish sashimi was delicious and so was the gyoza dumpling, only reason why they get 2 and not 1 star. My ramen was made of noodles undercooked pork (read fat) with an under seasoned broth and my friend s teriyaki beef was literally beef and overcooked veg in oil and sugar, the oil that accumulated on the bottom of the plate made me feel sick. I m disappointed

Ordered a spicy salmon avo salad, sashimi don and a ramen, restaurant only had about 4 tables including us with food already. 25 mins in, I asked waitress if our food was ready soon, she yelled THEY MAKING IT!!! (without even checking). Another 10 mins later, we left. We were surprised she even looked shocked... waited 35 mins not even a salad?

Waited 25 minutes and payed $20 for a curry. Rice and chicken were Bone DRY and curry itself was average at best. Worst value for money curry of my life. Would not recommend.

seriously i cant believe there is such a food outlet exist in West end. the lunch karaage chicken meal was such a letdown with tough and overcooked chicken that gives the impression of previously left over chicken brought to table again with refry. the poor waitress was.so overworked that she accidentally spilled the whole miso soup when serving us. i was more concerned for my daughter on her safety than anything else. place was really crammed up. the couple seemed just around everywhere serving without any direction. Big disappointment.

Pretty average meal ...tuna sashimi was obviously thawed from frozen, salmon sashimi was good. Gyoza were the best of a bad bunch. Ugly down lights are SO bright so theres no atmosphere at all and the service was very perfunctory. A real shame as we were tossing up between a couple of different dinner options in the West End. We wont be back.

My son found this place. We always caught up at Miso happy but unfortunately it closed. Probably a victim of covid! Izakaya Goku is a good find. Really Japanese in its feel and ambiance. Menu has some good selections. My son had a Ramen and I Udon Noodles with Tempura vegetables. Place filled up quickly and lots of Asian people eating which is always a good sign. We will definitely go again. Recommend.

They do the good japamanese food and it nice so you can see the lovely locals doing their thing whilst you have some okomanyaki balls with the stuff

Food is acceptable ... But it took ages to take the order and it took forever to bring them to your table. My girlfriend had a pork belly with rice, but the rice came 30 mins after the pork. We asked for three times and were guaranteed it will be coming soon by different staff. The only reason I can think about why it s so busy is people couldn t get the table from the Greek place next door or the Italian one across the street.

Food was just ok but staff was so unfriendly. She wasnt happy whatever I ask. I wouldnt stay to eat dinner there if I wasnt too short of time to find another.

The restaurant isnt noisy and the staff are polite and helpful. They are very careful of COVID and provide the setting protected in plastic for use. With paperclips for water and disposable chopsticks. The Tonkotsu broth is flavourful, slightly salty but not an issue. The chashu is tender and flavourful. Egg noodles are chewy and soak up the flavour of the broth. The egg was hard boiled as opposed to being gooey in the centre with the usual marinade, but overall the rest of the Tonkotsu Ramen make up is very good, with a nice large bowl that is very filling. Tonkotsu Ramen seems to be the favourite as there were a few other guests that had eaten the same and were being cleared from the tables.

We there Sunday for lunch , the food was terrible and the staff didnt want to be there. 2 stars for the portion size, price, but sorry wont ever go there again.

Unfriendly stuff and medium quality sushi

Food took quite a while to arrive once ordered. Was odd how the little plates and condiments came in a plastic ziplock bag. Saw staff empty other table scraps and leftovers into the plastic bags - was off putting when it was walked through the dining area. All the excessive plastic is really harmful to our environment as well. Fresh kimchi was delicious but the okonomiyaki was too floury and heavy. Bit of odd and loud ambience as well.

It s super delicious. The lunch set is only 15 Australian dollars and comes with drinks and soup. It s really a great deal.

The lunch deal is really great and affordable - the karaage is fresh and big servings. The miso is delicious and perfect for a winter day.

An izakaya this is not. Sashimi with no attention to presentation (at least the fish was fresh), Gyoza appeared to be from a frozen pack, average takoyaki, karaage KFC, some sort of salmon-miso thing and soggy lotus root.

Cosy little restaurant, reasonably priced meals, fast service and turnover. Good for quick eat on the run. Food is pretty standard, prices reasonable. Because I hate soggy tempura, so it s great they don t put the tempura separately.

I tried many chicken katsu curries in brisbane and I must say. This dish is probably the worst dish out of all the place Ive been too. There is not enough curry on my plate and the chicken is dry as hell. The miso soup was okay. But the price of $22 for this microwave food? Cmon

Gorgeous food, we shared a few plates amongst the table and everything was splendid. We went back a second time a week later because we just had to try more delicious meals. Definitely recommend if you like flavoursome and delicious food.

Ate here during lunch and we ordered the pork katsu which was on lunch special and the kimchee soup. The katsu was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. But kind of disappointed with the kimchee soup. It was too salty and it was pricier in comparison to other meals.It felt like it was a waste to eat only a part of it.The restaurant has good lunch specials so it s worth a try.

Chicken and tempira here tastes like it was frozen and store bought. Oysters gave me food poisoning. Would avoid eating here again at all costs. Waiters have no idea what is in the food and whether it is fresh or not.

Great Japanese food. Amazing bento box meal.

Not only do I come here regularly by myself and with my boss and receive lovely food with a quiet, comfortable, cleanly environment and service each time, today made me love them the most. I am quite out of it today, and I m so lucky that I ate here today out of all days. (18/07/22). The crazy nutter I am, I left my laptop and an expensive jacket in there and just walked out. When the two waitresses realised, they ran after me to give them both back. I cannot explain how relieved I was and they just smiled and went back to the restaurant like normal. I m sure this may happen to restaurants all the time but this has never happened to me and I m so grateful for their attentiveness. A big thank you to all people who work at this restaurant.

The worst japanese restaurant I ve ever had. The rice was too sticky. The teriyaki beef looked and tasted very much like chinese cuisine than any japanese cuisine. The service was not very good either. The tampura was fine and should be the best among all of these. Overall, I d not recommend anyone coming here for authentic japanese meals.

First time Ive ever left a review for anything but this place was so great. Just ate there tonight food was awesome but we couldnt finish it all so took it as a takeaway. Then got distracted and left it on the table Waiter chased us 500 metres up the road to make sure we got to take it home. Most amazing service and excellent value too so cheap for such large serves. I was very impressed and would definitely go back next time Im in Brisbane. well done Izakaya Goku

Nice to share a meal

I used to love this place and ate here weekly. My experiences here in the last year have been increasingly more disappointing. Tonights experience is the final straw and I will not order from here anymore. I ordered tempura udon and requested to pay for 2 extra prawns. I didnt receive the extra prawns and there was so little broth in the bowl that I couldnt even dip the tempura into the broth. I called to discuss and was told there was nothing they could do. Zero customer service or interest in doing something to rectify the issue.

It is not the typical Japanese restaurant like you see in Italy but the variety of dishes left us very impressed

Good food, good value, but the ambience and service was a bit lacking when I visited.

We visited because we have seen lots of people in the restaurant. We ordered Sashimi /Grilled salmon and salmon&avo rolls. Sashimi was very fishy and grilled salmon not even hot when was served. We could not finish any of the food. Overall, food was not pleasant at all. Maybe we oredered the wrong stuff.

The atmosphere - tables are awkwardly cramped, which makes for some uncomfortable glances during dining. Food - Pork curry was oevrcooked, hard, and chewy. Portion was ok for $18, but Ive had better for $5. Service - Ordinary, and a bit forgetful.

This place is usually pretty good and the food is great, although today the waitress seemed like she didn t want to be there or working, service was slow, she was moving slowly and didn t seem to care much about the service.

Not good anymore. The place used to be good and ran by Japanese (at least tastes like what you get in Japan). However, the food is oily and overcooked this time - not surprise if the owner of this space has changed If you are looking for a Chinese version of Sukiyaki or tempura which taste like the frozen one from Costco), go for it ;) I personally won t visit there again.

Good food, good portions, good service, well priced

The lunch special was quite a good deal as it include miso soup and drink. The Aburi Salmon don was average as there were too much mayonnaise. The salmon is quite fresh but the tasted was ruined while soaked in mayonnaise. I am keen to try other don next time!

Absolutely appalling experience. Accidentally ordered one beer instead of two for my partner and I, and was told that I wasnt allowed to buy another because we only bought one meal and a few sides to share. As someone who works in hospitality, this is disgusting. It is not specified on the drinks menu or the food menu which meals are classed as sides or meals, nor is it specified that you have to order a meal to order a drink. Will not be coming back.

I was a regular when I stayed in West End. I can say the portion is generous and the lunch menu is great. Although the foods are still tasty though, there are still better ones out there. Nevertheless, I would recommend this place to anyone who s looking for Japanese lunch in West End.

Ordered 42 takeaway serves from the lunch special menu for an office function, and I have to say we were impressed. They gave us a fair price for the bulk order. Everything was hot, fresh cooked and the fried food was still crispy when we ate it. There were some good tasty vegan options as well. The lunch specials are simple dishes, but simple food done well is often the most enjoyable. Hats off to the Chef for handling the bulk takeaway order during a Friday lunch hour rush as well. 5 stars.

Disappointed with takeaway Ramen and Yakisoba. Each had a tiny portion of pork which was full of fat and gristle. Not what I expect for a $16 meal.

Went to lunch with a friend, always like to try somewhere different and this lovely cafe/restaurant did not disappoint. Lovely Japanese food prepared to perfection and delivered to your table ready for you to enjoy. It was great to catch up with an old friend, have a lovely meal in such relaxed surrounds.

Beautiful food. Very friendly and efficient service and great $15 lunch specials before 5pm. Highly recommend.

Warning to all who are lucky enough to read this review, do not come to this fake japanese restaurant. This is more likely to be a Taiwanese home kitchen and the food is nothing close to the menu description. The first photo is their Eggplant Dengaku, a total disaster. The second photo is what the dish should be. Same thing happens to the Sukiyaki with rice. Be proud of what you make, though it is horrible like hell. But never fool your customers.

This place used to be my go-to sushi place but since the owner changed quality of the food has become so poor. If you guys are willing to pay for this kind of salmon roll then I wouldnt stop you. 99.9% rice, 0.01% salmon. The photo was taken in April.

Not sure if there s any Japanese staff in here but the food was decent. Ramen was actually really good but the karaage chicken a bit dry and overcooked. We also had a bento box which was a generous size and had a good range of food in it. Just the dumplings that came with the bento box were not good nothing like what gyoza should be.

Had dinner here last night and think this restaurant is totally underrated. Huge portions, fresh and tasty dishes. Did not expect too much but was happily surprised by the quality. Very generous with their servings which is unusual these days. Nice service too. Worth a visit!

Larg portion good quality food with reasonable price. We loved black sesame ice cream and lenon sorbet.

Nice service, generous portions, tofu was great, wagyu sukiyaki with rice didnt really impress us, while wagyu okonomiyaki with yum yum sauce, mayo and kimchee topping was good.

I was very impressed with the flavours - everything was delicious! The only thing is that the ramen noodles were a bit clumped together. The portion sizes are really big for a very reasonable price so please everyone, order only what you can eat or take it home with you! So sad to see food wastage, especially in Japanese culture

Great sized proportions, flavours and cusyomer service! The lunch specials were super good (200g+ of meat, rice, miso soup and drink for $15) and considerably cheaper than the normal price for the meal alone at $16~ .

Nice little set up. $15 lunch deal with miso soup and salad is ok. The restaurant allows individual payments for group. Street parking is limited. Better to park at West village shopping centre. First 2h free.

I dont know why Japanese restaurant serve Chinese rice, its not authentic.... Frozen seafood unfreeze not too bad but I can definitely tell its Frozen seafood as I cant taste original taste of them. Spring roll is so tiny with really thick batter, the spring roll I buy in woolworths probably better than that. Pretty much a Chinese take away instead of a Japanese restaurant

Had the spicy ramen and fried eggplant! Both were delicious. Would definitely recommend!

The food was good. Portion sizes are great! There were 6 thick slices of pork in my ramen. And if you didnt end up finishing your food, you could always get the rest takeaway like I did.
