The Modern Pantry in West Vancouver

Dine in service great yesterday. Have mobility issues had 2 orders and an exchange. Nothing was a problem.Very busy then . Today ,I ordered and was told by the same server,they yelled at me to pick up the order,but were too busy to bring it to my table. Spoke to the manager re this issue,he apologized but mentioned how they dont normally serve customers at a table. There were about 6 customers only today total,and double that yesterday. I am not pleased,and will not come here again if I am greeted wuth an inconsistent service attitude. By the Way, I have been in client services for 35 plus years, and nothing is as important as a satisfied client. Do not think that these things are unimportant,we all have to feel important. Good spot otherwise. Will probably not come back.

I love the food here but not the hair

I simply wanted to get a drip coffee to go, nothing else. When I asked what kind of drip they had, the lady worker just kept repeating it s coffee, just regular coffee. I mean, yeah, you may not know much about coffee, but should know what you were serving. Turned out it was from Timbertrain (a very well-known local coffee roaster); a male worker (manager/owner?) came and sorted it out. The coffee was good, indeed, but I was very unimpressed by their unprofessionalism/unfriendliness/lack of knowledge. It wouldn t have been terrible if she d just said Sorry, I don t know.

I came in with three other people, and we all ordered separately. For some reason. All of our food came out together and it was cold. You should hire some people with actual thinking power. Thanks.

Amazing pastries!

Not worth the price. I had a piece of focaccia that was quite terrible. My husband got a grilled cheese sandwich made with tomatoes concentrate. We did not try the coffee. I do not recommend it. Food

The food and drinks are away great. They have the absolute best sourdough focaccia bread ever. I get multiples everytime I go and keep it in my freezer. I haven t been able to find it anywhere else. Highly recommend!

A lovely bakery that uses unexpected flavour combos in their sweet & savoury bakes. You really cant go wrong with anything there, its all delicious!

This is one of those hidden gems that the locals need to tell you about. Well, I am that local. My office is nearby and this is my favorite go too. And while their pastries and sandwiches are amazing, one of the hidden treats is their espresso based coffees. Fresh ground beans, proper preparation, amazing cups, its all just right. Dont get me wrong, I come and eat all the amazing food and treats, but definitely dont miss the coffee. Lastly, the staff and team are so nice and friendly. Makes for a wonderful experience.

Loved this place, but unfortunately they are now closed. Went by today and the sign said they decided to close at the end of March after 5 years there. Will have to try their west Van location.

I stopped by to check out this new bakery and was definitely impressed. The sourdough bread and brownies were exceptional. The bread tasted amazing and contributed to several days of tasty sandwiches. The brownie which was moist and deeply chocolaty lasted considerably less time. I also picked up a sticky bun and muffins to share with my parents. Unfortunately, after my dad tried the sticky bun he temporarily forgot about sharing -another good sign. I dont think you can go wrong with your selection here. Aside from the food, the atmosphere of this little bakery is amazing too. I strongly recommend checking this place out!

The best brownies I ve ever had. They make everything with real ingredients and from scratch. Delicious scones and sandwiches too. They also serve Pallet Coffee which is a total win in my books. This place is a must visit!

Accidentally came across this bakery so decided to read some reviews and give it a try. I bought a box of a variety of pastries and they were all delicious and not too sweet. Like all the other reviews their breakfast sandwiches are a must! If Im ever in the area again, I will definitely drop by.

Bought a prepackaged broccoli soup, froze it for a week and I just had it for lunch. This soup is the best broccoli soup I ve ever had. Delicious, perfectly seasoned and you can still taste the ingredients. Can t wait to try more things on the menu!

This truly is a hidden gem and everything Ive tried so far is amazing, not to mention very reasonable. Very special place!

Been here just a few time but the pastries are absolutely delicious. Friendly staff as well.

SO much delicious food, and the folks are super friendly. We popped in for some of the famous sticky pecan cinnamon buns for a Sunday morning treat, and couldnt leave without a spinach onion breakfast bun too... Were still talking about how good it was! We also got to try samples of the lemon olive oil bars and their creative granola flavours; all amazing too. Basically, you cant go wrong with anything you get here.

Honestly, this bakery is a one-way train to yumsville. Would chomp again.

Ordered a few treats from their tent at a local farmers market (coconut lime loaf, cheddar & hazelnut scone, apricot & ginger scone). Nice, innovative flavours and friendly service! The ginger wasnt super prominent, but could taste the fruit. Would love to try more of their baked goods in the future!

Fantastic little bakery with lovely service! Their brownies are to die for as are the lemon bars! I stopped in again today to go a more savory route before I wrote a review and got the pulled pork sandwich and my husband got the veggie sandwich. They were super super delicious! They also have breakfast buns that are really good and filled with onions and spinach and all that fun stuff! Highly recommend this little shop and Id love for them to stick around!! Check it out!

Theres a reason this place has 4.9 stars!! Amazing baked goods, delicious sandwiches, great coffee, and just the friendliest people working there. Theyve also got a super cozy couple of window-side tables if you want to hang around. A place you can feel good about patronizing.

Tried the Butternut Squash crostata...its a vegetarian delight. Havent tasted a crostata this good, in a very long time. Even my kids loved it. Also grabbed a few other baked goodies. And a Rhubarb Cardamom Jam!! I was tempted to get so many other delicious looking items. To top it all up, the service was very friendly. Five stars from our family.

Lovely staff, great chai latte and breakfast buns.

I ordered the breakfast sandwich and ate it outside, in front of the cafe. It was phenomenal. Soft boiled egg, cheddar and mayo on a cheese and something else croissant type bun, they call their breakfast bun. They grill it to melt-y perfection when you order. I also bought the brownie, apple oat cake and rosemary cheddar sourdough to bring home. Havent tried them yet but hopefully they are as impressive as the sandwich. Cute jars of granola, crackers and spreads available for purchase too.

Rustic style neighborhood bakery near Maplewood Farm. The breads and sticky buns we tried were very tasty. Outstanding and make you want to go back and try other items there. Its a small bakery so selection and quantities are limited, but what they have is great. Parking is limited, but there are street spot nearby as well. Definitely worth a visit.

Everything we ordered was delicious and as an extra bonus, the staff were amazing, super sweet, and patient with my little ones. Looking forward to going back to try more treats!

Modern pantry is wonderful! Its delicious food - sandwiches, soup, baked goods - all served in reusable, low waste, way. Loved it.

A very small place, one minute drive from Maplewood farm. There is a parking lot near the bakery. I tried the cinnamon bun and it was excellent. There is no seating area, only one table outside. Good service.

What a Delicious find!! Place is cute and full of breads, treats and in house made jams and spreads. I had read about the Grilled Cheese and folks aren t lying! It is the tastiest grilled cheese I have ever eaten! A mix of flavours...soft creamy white cheese mixed with their homemade tomato relish (which you can buy to take home if you like) that has a little tiny kick! The scones are super tasty and the coffee is good as well. Well worth a visit! Some tables outside on the sidewalk to sit and eat your snacks. Might feel like you are in the parking lot...but trust me it is worth it!!

An absolute north shore hidden gem. Why go to Honeys Donuts and deal with parking and enormous line up when you can come here, and have a deliciously bewildering array of yummy baking choice. I stumbled across this place by accident. Its new since April 2018. Ill definitely be back.

Food here seems as good as Crema to me and about the same price. Staff may be a bit introverted but I dont really care, everyone is lovely.

It s not a bad coffee shop but feels overpriced for the quality of the food and drinks. Average coffee and lattes and food was okay. Hot chocolates as part of the hot chocolate festival were a big let down being luke warm, watery, and lacking flavour.

Cute spot, however, the cashier was inattentive and not present upon arrival. The other lady working in the kitchen went to find the cashier to let her know customers were waiting for her. When the cashier arrived, she was not too pleasant to chat with (seemed agitated and unwelcoming). I was able to watch her make my drink from where I was sitting and noticed she used her bare hands to reach for my cookie, rather than using tongs or gloves (after watching her handle the entire store front). As a paying customer, I do not enjoy dining in at cafes who do not teach their employees food safe practices.

I come here every morning. If they re closed I simply try to pass the time until they open again. I don t want to remember any period of my life when fresh topped focaccia wasn t an option. If I die young bury me in their lemon olive tarts, lay me down in a bed of their focaccia.

Impersonal service and unreasonable prices. The shop itself is great, but the prices reflect the location more than the quality & quantity of produce. The savory food looked tasty and Ill be back to try some more (this visit was a coffee and a pastry trip). $1 extra for non-dairy milk... still?

This place has the best pastries in West Van (yes better than Savary Island Pie company). Outside of pastries, you need to try the feta dip, focaccia bread (fully addicted) and the grilled cheese with spicy tomato jam. They also do burgers on Fridays and they are incredible!

I personally am not a big fan of places that are very quiet. It seems too quiet for me, even though I have tried saying greetings to the staff there a couple of times with two minutes chat while waiting for my coffee, I felt that I have to leave the station soon. It feels like Im going to a library. However, if someone enjoys a quiet environment in West Vancouver, I highly recommend this place. I see many people doing their readings there, which makes it a great place to be!

This is a place I frequent regularly. It is a small, female owned business and their baking is extraordinary. The space is beautiful and clean and they have wonderful coffees and other drinks. Two gorgeous patios and wonderful staff. Croissants, brownie, pop tart, and focaccia are all worth trying!

I used the catering service for my moms 90th birthday and the special pastries made the event extra special. We ordered the two bite pastries including lemon tarts, decadent chocolate shortbread, lime pavlovas and strawberry pastries. All were absolutely delicious and beautiful as well. I will definately order from here again.

I popped into Modern Pantry this morning for a coffee and it was so nice! A huge selection of baked goods at reasonable prices. I ordered an Americano and the focaccia with cheese + veggies on top. The focaccia was still warm from the oven and the coffee was amazing! Will definitely be back. Welcome to the neighborhood! Vegetarian options: I got the veggie focaccia but I noticed other veggie options available.

A friend and I attended a holiday cookie making class here last night and it was fantastic. Very fun, informative and Kendall was a great teacher! I am looking forward to making all of the class cookies again over the holidays. Highly recommend the class and this location.

Ordered five loaves of bread and two sandwiches. The taste is not bad, but the freshness is poor. I cant say the workers are friendly either.

Wow! Great food. My sandwich was fantastic, the boys devoured their cinnamon bun, and my wifes cookie tasted amazing. Toss some hearts in the coffee froth and this place gets 5 stars!

I love this addition to West Vancouver and it is such a funky place but the coffee is WEAK and watery!!! The baked goods look delish and my boyfriend had an amazing breakfast sandwich but I am hesitant to go back because the coffee is so weak --- I have been warned about this from others but thought i would check it out myself! If they had good coffee, it would definitely be 5 stars!

Best grill cheese sandwich I had for sometimes now. Coffee was delicious, not over roast like other coffee shop, exactly how we like it in Europe.

Came today for the first day of the brunch pop-up and it was fantastic! Great service, as always, and nice options (though I admit we all had the shakshuka!) Would love to come for brunch again as I ve been told I must try the veggie burger. I would have taken pictures, but I was busy eating it. Sorry not sorry. Vegetarian options: Great veggie options for brunch, which was really lovely to see!

The pastries aren t buttery enough. The texture of the almond croissant is more like biscuit than croissant. The brown butter pear crostata is too sweet. The strata stuffing on the pop up menu is good.

My favorite bakery! I try to order something new every time and its always delicious. Particularly love their focaccia. Also, a beautiful view from the balcony - a lovely place to have a coffee (or mimosa!) and contemplate life.

The Modern Pantry, a warm inviting atmosphere with a quiet hum of voices and music, but no need to shout to be heard, always a seat available either inside or on the generous outside patios. Best coffee on the North Shore and I have tried most, the baking treats are deliciously displayed and equally enjoyable. Make sure to take home a loaf of sourdough bread. Coffee and a treat outside in the snow...
