Authentic Japanese fusion made with highest quality ingredients.
An amazing aesthetic paired with a server who was both funny and personable made for a fantastic dining experience. They also offer aburi oshi sushi, which feels like the next evolution of sushi, combining tradition with a modern twist. Highly recommend!
The food here is amazing and better than other sushi restaurants. The staff here are welcoming, always a smile on their face. Love this place, totally recommend!!!
Nathan and the team were so welcoming, and the food was incredible. The coconut surprise he recommended was the star of the meal definitely a must try! The cozy atmosphere made it the perfect spot to relax
The food was so delicious! Staff are so nice and helpful. Recommend the volcano roll and chicken karaage. The volcano roll is completely deep fried. Love this place
Our family went there last night. We had a very good time. It is a very beautiful restaurant, very delicious food, generous portion and reasonable price . The owner and staff are super nice and friendly. Definitely recommend. We will be back!!!
Ichiban is a good Japanese restaurant . The interior is a cozy wooden feel, but with japanese characteristics, there are areas where you can sit shoe less in the traditional way. This is a vegetarian review, and I would say the options are great. There's even a veg section on the menu, but there are opinions almost everywhere else on the menu I had the mango avocado roll And the special yammy rol l I enjoyed both but more so the yammy the creamchesse didn't over power the rest of ingredients. Also had taiyaki for dessert it's a fried redbean cake in shape of a fish, I've only had red once before so I'm not a redbean expert but I can say the cake was tasty not too rich but not tasteless either a good sweet too end my meal. The service was efficient. My server i didn't catch his name help explain what certain rolls were. For the price I would, it's great.
Not authentic Japanese. Food quality was average. Chicken karaage in the picture is more like popcorn chicken. Menu options are limited, you can find most of the items in other restaurants, you can’t find anything specials here. Service was better than the food. Price was expensive but I guess this is what you get in rich neighborhoods. 4.5 is definitely overrated. 3.5 is more suitable compared to other authentic ones.
Best Sushi restaurant we’ve had in the north shore so far! It’s a perfect location from the beach. We had the Beef udon for our 3 year old and he loved it, sockeye sashimi, sockeye and avocado rolls, gyozas and the red dragon roll. The gave my son a miso soup as well because they know kids love the soup. Also a large hot sake for the wife and I. Amazing atmosphere and the food was so tasty and filling! Price: For what you get the price is on par with a lot of other sushi restaurants of this caliber. ⭐️ Portion/palate: The sashimi cuts were thick and the portion per item on the menu were nice! The taste was excellent for what we ordered. ⭐️ Place: It is a bit cramped going up the stairs (The restaurant is on the 2nd floor) but over all it’s cozy and the feeling is authentic. Location is right on the main road so you get all the road noise (emergency vehicles etc.) Parking is hit and miss on the main road but the back of the building it looked like there were plenty of parking spaces. We parked by the beach and walked over so it was more convenient for us. 1/2 ⭐️ People: The staff were friendly and one in particular was very attentive to our needs! Thank you Nathan! ⭐️
The food s good. The menu offers a wide selection of choices. Excellent customer service. The restaurant s located on the 2ns floor, so some climbing of stairs required.
A hidden gem! Fresh delicious food and outstanding service.
Love this place, great food and service!
I love this restaurant! Every time I am in town I make sure to go. For the quality and price it cannot be beat, and the service is always friendly and personable. We always order way too much but that s because it s so hard to choose because it s all so good! I really like the Philidelphia roll and Amber roll, and their pieces of sashimi are nice and big! I definitely recommend Sakura Ichiban!
This place is awesome. One of my favourites on the North Shore. Everyone we visit my mom in West Van we come here as many times as we can. Great food, great service, and decent prices. I ve come before and will come again.
great Japanese food. Clean and fresh. Thats what is important for Japanese food.
The food was great and the service was okay, but for some reason the whole place was lacking some positive energy. Their tempura is amazing. I liked their food, but I wont go back.
One of the worst sushi experiences Ive had in Vancouver. I do not recommend this place at all. The rice was undercooked, the vegetables were soggy, and the fish was not fresh. I won t be coming back.
This is the best Japanese restaurant I have ever been to, the food is delicious and the service is great. I do very much recommend.
Best Japanese restaurant Food & atmosphere and customer service was excellent. Food
Loved the setting, loved the speed of service, loved the food, they were good with our kids, and I especially appreciated the reasonable pricing given the high quality of the meal. Kid-friendliness: High chairs and childrens place settings were available. No dedicated kids menu but plenty of kid friendly food options
Service and Atmosphere were good. The Aburi Sushi Combo $16 Seared Salmon, Tuna, Evo, Hamachi, were all fully cooked, not seared. Maybe that is how they do it. It was all covered with too much dressing. Aburi Sushi combo was awful - Rice, cooked fish and mouth full of sauce. Other food was okay, we had Agedashi Tofu, Chicken roll, etc.
Best Japanese restaurant and friendly waiters. My favorite place. Grandkids favorite place too. Kid-friendliness: Grandkids favorite place
Don t believe some of the good reviews on here. Filter lowest reviews and you will see how horrible this place actually is. First off, no one greeted my group when we arrived. There was no service. The seafood and sashimi were not fresh and are overpriced for the quality. The decor also looked tired and dated. Save your time and hard earned money and go elsewhere! Trust me on this!
The quality of the food was good, and the restaurant had a cozy and intimate atmosphere. The interior decor closely resembled traditional Japanese restaurants, especially with some tables designed to mimic authentic Japanese settings. However, due to the restaurant s small size, the noise level was a bit high when some customers spoke loudly, which slightly disrupted the tranquility. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
SUPER
Lovely food, friendly staff. Highly recommended!
Very very tasty & delicious recommended
Called in to ask if they were hiring. Someone picked up and told me the manager wasnt in, and then hung up on me in the middle of my sentence. Honestly very glad Im not applying here. Awful service.
Very bed service attitude! Terrible! For one person dine in, they just pointed to the sushi bar, and when I asked is there any other seat, they just said NO and turned away, maybe serve the other customer.
This Japanese eatery is the literal definition of a hole in the wall, squeezed above another restaurant on the second floor. For someone whos of a tall stature, the inside and seating boxes can feel cramped at times, though nothing prohibitive. The food was good, the sushi was quite exceptional but the teriyaki I was non plussed by. The server was amazing, I wish I remembered his name. Ambleside beach with its logs nearby is a great place to watch other people have mental breakdowns.
Love this place! Fantastic service and food. Reasonable prices. Favorit was the salmon oshi. Food
Always amazing food and friendly staff. Nathan is the bomb
Food was so good they came out in a good time food was cooked good very nice people.
Not so authentic. Food is average and on the rough side. Portion size good, but quality of any cooked food isn t the highest. Best to stick to sashimi. Limited sake selection, on the lower quality side also. They started cleaning the table next to us as we were eating and nothing stimulates the appetite like chlorine alcohol spray .
Great place for sushi.. Lots of sushi to pick from.. plus they have brown rice and black rice.. the service is great.. love this place
One of my favorite restaurants Highly recommended Food
Excellent
We love sushi and have tried it almost everywhere in Vancouver. I must say that the quality, taste and welcome was superb! There is good parking behind the restaurant and to get to the restaurant you need to climb a steep staircase. The service is familiar and enjoyable, the restaurant is small and always full. The chefs know how to delight the palate and our guests were very satisfied. Molto bene by Cinzia e Alberto from Italy
Some of the best sushi Ive ever had.
I feel compelled to review this place because of the incomprehensibly high ratings that tricked me into dining here. While the staff were pleasant the restaurant was on the dirty side, but moreover the food was incredibly bad. The star of the show was the ebi fry, lightly breaded and delicately fried, but served with a steaming hot dashi that let you know: youre not in an authentic Japanese restaurant. It only got worse from there. Mushy saba served with an oddly dressed salad. An assorted sushi plate with SALTY maki. An unagi-don so swimming in cloyingly sweet sauce I thought I was served a soup when it arrived. And a noodle dish the menu overconfidently defined as yakisoba. Those responsible for the fare have almost certainly never been anywhere near Japan, and its outrageous that in a world class city like Vancouver, this is what passes for a good Japanese restaurant (4.5* on Google maps!?!?).
Good quality sushi, I enjoyed every bites of it!
Comfortable, quiet, friendly staff, great miso, tea, sashimi and rolls. Fresh! Fresh! Fresh! We ll be back again for sure.
My fav sushi place. Highly recommended.
Good sushi
Only good thing was the cali roll, but who can f that up. green salad left a bad taste in my mouth. wish i sent it back. I wanted to throw up their salmon after feeling ill from it but I went to the washroom and it needed a good clean. music and ambience needs improvement. Was considering dine and dash, but instead I was a good samaritan and paid the over priced bill. based on quality, I would pay 2$ for the two appetizers and the roll I got. The spicy was literally sweet. go literally anywhere but here.
Must come, amazing food and services!!! This is #1 Japanese restaurants for me!
Very relaxed feeling and super friendly staff, not to mention the sushi was fantastic!
Tasty food for good price
Service and food are both great!
The restaurant was amazing. The food amazing. Wheelchair accessibility: This is restaurant is on the 2nd floor. There is only stairs. Food : 5/5 |
Very disappointing experience at what used to be (prior to new ownership) one of our favourite restaurants in West Van. Our meal came out piecemeal over an hour after we put in our order, and even then only 1/3 of our order was prepared. Not sure if they were prioritizing takeout over dine-in, or if they were understaffed owner certain didn t seem to concerned. Regardless, it was a pretty disappointing end to what we hoped would be a nice dinner with our two young daughters.
Ichiban is our favourite Sushi restaurant since we discovered it last summer. The food is fresh and delicious and the customer service is excellent. The tempura is always crisp and perfectly done, the spinach, edamame and other appetizers are all great quality as are the sushi rolls. One of my favorites is the spicy sashimi combo which never fails to satisfy. I also have to say that Nathan, one of the owners has a remarkable commitment to excellent customer service. He remembers not only our past orders but also the details of conversations to give us unparalleled service. We love coming to Ichiban because of the consistently great experiences.
Great environment nicely decorated, unfortunately that was the only positive thing. The chicken karage was worse than McNuggets. The sashimi seemed fresh but had a horrible mushy firmness to it. The sushi was decent, although only in comparison of the other things. Would not come again, there are defintely better places around than this one.
Arriving by chance at the end of the service at 8:30 p.m. ish we were very well received after climbing the stairs which lead to the Sakura Ishiban. Friendly team, quick dishes that you will find in photos throughout the room to help you choose. Because there is choice and unusual dishes! A great find and a good tasting. Looking forward to coming back to the neighborhood
A hidden gem of West Van. A small well decorated corner which is hard to find at first. Exceptional quality sushi place with amazing service.
This restaurant has been here for 43 years! And for good reason. The service is impeccable and the food simply the best. And in a great location too. Recommended dishes
One server for the whole restaurant dealing with online ordering and dining room. Our table weren t clean when we seated. Kid need water as we offered we never received it. Everything took longtime. And food is mediocre at best.
Lovely hidden gem of a restaurant. Excellent quality food. Service is attentive and you can expect to get your order within 15 - 20 minutes. They have a wide variety of of dishes. Expect to wait during peak hours.
Out of all the local sushi places, this ones my favorite!
I have only used take out service. Everything was ready when expected. I had the suishi party pack C. It was really tasty and plenty for 3. Doordash is the same price as ordering direct. Recommended.
This was a transcendent culinary experience unlike anything Ive had before! I have never left a review for food, but my experience here demanded that I do so. This is by far the best Sushi Ive ever had to date. The combination of flavor and freshness is unrivalled. The Smoked Salmon Oshi is a must-try (my brain didnt even know how to process how delicious it was at first - it was like being a child again trying something delectable for the very first time) but equally amazing were the Red Dragon Rolls (smoky and oh so fresh), the Volcano rolls (spicy, crispy yet juicy, with so much flavor) and the Sakura Rolls (the mango adds a note that perfectly accents the freshness of the fish). Also the Assorted Tempura was perfectly fried, better than anything Ive had locally (Im from the Edmonton area). As if the food wasnt enough, the atmosphere here is so cozy and intimate. I must recommend the Tatami rooms for the full experience! To top it all off, the service here was simply amazing. They make you feel like family, asking about personal preferences and making recommendations tailored to your taste. They even serve bottomless complimentary tea with your meal! A special shout-out to Nathan who welcomed us warmly, showed us to a private room & helped us to choose our meals. He is such a kind and helpful fellow. Thank you so much for having us and for serving us so graciously! Finally, portion sizes for the price are incredible, and they provide plenty of Wasabi and Ginger with every dish they serve. Even the Nigiri came with generous amounts of each (try the Toro and Unagi Nigiri, both were delicious). Suffice to say, we will be returning every time we are in the Vancouver area, and recommending Sakura Ichiban to everyone we know (we even slept nearby just so we could have lunch there the following day). A true gem and a must-try for any fan of Japanese cuisine or just amazing food in general! Parking: Plentiful free 2 hour parking on the street nearby (or just park at the Shell a block away if you want more time to stroll along the beach afterwards)
WOW! Ive never felt compelled to leave a review before but this restaurant offers a truly transcendental dining experience! My partner and I both agree its the BEST SUSHI weve ever had, so fresh and dynamic tasting! The menu selection is extensive, to the point that we placed our order in stages as we made our decisions! Even still, the food came out fast and frequent! Not only that, but the portion sizes and prices are beyond reasonable! The atmosphere is second to none! We asked to be seated in one of the private Tatami rooms, and the server granted our request without any issue. Im glad we asked because it was probably the most intimate, romantic dinner weve ever shared together! The staff is simply amazing, especially Nathan who served us! After being seated, we were immediately treated to complimentary green tea that was refilled throughout our meal! When we were in doubt as to what to order, he would ask what flavours we preferred and made suggestions accordingly, all of which hit the ball out of the park to say the least! We stayed for quite a while and were never rushed once, not even when we pushed it close to closing time! Thank you so much Sakura Ichiban for delivering an unforgettable experience for my partner and I! We love you and will be back (we already were the very next day)!
Quit lunch, big portion but the ingredients not fresh, the clam miso soup is test less
This place was an absolute let down. The place itself was not as clean as a restaurant should be. Youd receive a paper menu which is fine; but it was a dirty paper menu. Why not laminate a couple of the paper menus so they could at least be wiped. From getting the order to receiving the order, the service overall was slow. It was disappointing especially since there were only 2 other parties in the restaurant. The food wasnt good. Ebi sunomono was watery. It didnt have the sour-y taste a regular sunomono would have. The shrimp also tasted like it was just defrosted and put in the bowl. The rolls were ok. The best roll was the dynamite roll but that doesnt say much since its difficult to screw up a dynamite roll. I wouldnt recommend this place as there are much better options within a 5 minute walk.
Super cool vibe in the restaurant, I love the esthetic. The food was very well prepared, and taste as well! Service was amazing as well. Everything about my experience here was great, I wouldnt change a thing!
This restaurant had to be one of the best restaurants we have been to in a long time. Right down to the food, service and atmosphere. We visited many restaurants in Vancouver during our stay and this restaurant was by far the kindest. We didn t feel as though we were being upsold and the price is right on oar for how delicious the food was. I would recommend coming here to anyone i talk to traveling to Vancouver.
Definitely go for the their specialty delicious deep fry sushis and quality of food was perfect with welcoming service
Great portions, fresh delicious seafood, decent price. Will definetly visit again!
Wonderful spot - 10/10 would recommend. They aren t fast but they the service is excellent and so is the food. Please don t get upset if the food takes a while. Good things take time. Food : 5/5
I came here with my family we enjoyed a delicious dinner. The host was very nice and he told us this place is a family business that have been there for 43 year. I do believe the place could be cleaner so some improvement will make it better and more atheistic.
My boyfriend and I love this place! It is our go to sushi spot, not only is the food amazing the service is excellent! They have been here for years and make the biggest rolls ever.
For the rolls, the rice was too soft and soggy. It would be ok if you were looking for a quick sushi fix. Yakisoba and takoyaki were pretty good. Food
Recently introduced to this place by a friend and have returned a couple of times since. Really really great food. Ive eaten at A LOT of sushi restaurants in the lower mainland in Ichiban is officially one of my favourites.
Great sushi place. Warm welcoming service. Great sushi. Really enjoyed our visit.
Came here for lunch. Ordered take out told me itll be ready in 15 min came there in 30 min and food was still not ready waited a good 20 minutes ti get it and it was only a bento box! The salad looked stale like its going bad and was tasteless. The tempura was ok but the tempura veggies were not fully cooked. The California roll was very very wet and the meat inside tasted very very bland took one bite and couldnt eat the rest. I could only finish the miso soup which was because I was very hungry and they forgot to give me a spoon for the soup. First time coming here never coming again. I usually dont leave reviews and am not a picky person I love asian Japanese food but this was truly horrendous for 20$ save your money there are lots of places to eat the same food but way better! Wish I could get refund!
Had dinner 3 nights in a row. The food is great and reasonably priced, the portion sizes are good and they don t skimp on the maki filling like some restaurants do. Atmosphere is cozy and unique and they do well with the layout in a small space. The upstairs vibe is cool and you can almost see the Burrard inlet from some tables (probably can when the leaves drop). The staff are friendly, genuine and attentive. This is definitely our new spot.
Amazing little sushi shop on the second floor. Fresh food, fair prices, good portions, warm welcome. Great customer service overall. 10/10 :)
The best sushi restaurant in West Vancouver & North Vancouver They have small rooms and you can n sit on the floor like Japanese style . Really cozy and romantic .
This place is amazing! Nathan was our server and our entire experience was fantastic!!! We will be back. Food
I love this spot! I have 2 favourite sushi restaurants and this is 1 of them. I really like going in and eating there but I also get takeout. I always get spicy tuna rolls and miso soup
The sushi here is really well done. The sashimi is very fresh, the rolls are large and tasty. Service was excellent and the restaurant was clean. The dragon roll is quite nice as well as the Sakura roll.
It s been over 10 Years since I ve been here, used to go frequently and as usual everything was perfect! The sushi was exceptional, the tuna was the best that I have tasted of any sushi restaurant, the service spot on and the atmosphere delightful. Try and get a booth for that extra special experience. Highly recommend!! Prices very fair especially for West Vancouver.
Hidden gem in west van, definitely one of the best sushi places ive been to
The food was very good. Very convenient location. The staff was very friendly. They serve unlimited hot tea in a flask. Their sushi was great, we also tried karage don whoch was very good. They are very friendly, and they also have traditional Japanese style sitting spaces. Food was filling and delicious.
Even though we arrived somewhat close to closing time, the employees were very kind to us. The atmosphere just makes you cozy automatically. 5 stars, would recommend.
The most consistent amazing sushi ive been to on repeated occasions!
Food was great and Nathan was a great server! Definitely recommend!
Small place! Worth waiting for your food! Best sushi rolls Ive ever had. Im gluten free and they know to work around my allergy!! 5stars!! Best service! Best chef!! Affordable than in California!! Best in Vancouver, Ca. Dietary restrictions: Im gluten free and they have gf soy sauce!! And shrimp allergy! They customized my food for me. Kudos to the chef and waiter!!
Service and Sushi was excellent! Best sushi place in Vancouver!
We have been looking for a restaurant like this on the North Shore since we moved here in 2019. Everything was excellent and the prices are VERY reasonable!! We will be back, for sure!!
Been coming here for years. They got new management/owners a few months back and the quality has dramatically suffered. Horrible meal for everyone at my table. Will not be going back.
One of the best Japanese food Ive so far :) very traditional Japanese style
This was my 1st visit at Sakura Ichiban. I always wanted to visit but never really had the opportunity but decided to go today. I ordered Nabiyaki Udon. I wanted something comforting and hot. The restaurant was a tad on the cold side btw. The quality of the food was quite good. The chicken pieces were tender and tasty. The breading was just right and not too thick or greasy. I hate when the breading is thicker than the actual chicken meat but this was not the case. The tempura pieces were fresh tasting and not too heavy. Udon noodles were al dente but I personally would have liked an extra minute of cooking time. The meal was tasty and satisfying. My server was prompt and my food arrived swiftly. I was given complimentary hot tea which is a bonus! I will definitely be back for more! Sorry I didnt take any photos as I started my lunch late. I have to prioritize eating over food pics. Lol
Sushi rice had no taste. Missing vinegar. Rolls were bland.
The host was super friendly. And the food was tasty.
If I could give 6 stars, I would. I went for a date night with my bf the other night and Nathan was our server. Nathan was freaking awesome. He recommended the best sushi for us and took the time the educate us about Japanese culture as we explored the menu. On top of that, all the food we ate was so delicious. This is my fav sushi place on the North Shore! I defs recommend going :)
The new owner has new menu one of the best Japanese foods I ever been with the new service nice and friendly they all young
The place is so resembling authentic Japanese restaurants where you can have your semi-private place to dine in with family and friends. The nice touching of Japanese art all over the restaurant reminded us of the moments we had in Japan.
!! I have only ever given one 5-star review for Sushi in Van and this joint has topped my ultimate list. This sushi joint is da bomb! Absolutely awesome and im coming here every time that Im in this area of town, period. Its my new almighty favorite for sure and best/most authentic Sushi I have eaten outside of Japan. I feel blessed to have discovered this absolute gem. First of all, a real nice cozy and authentic dig with a great laidback vibe. I love the decor, theyve transformed this place into a super cute homey-feel and a happy lucky charm with Lush greenery and contemporary minimalistic wooden features with soft lighting. I love being able to sit near the sushi chef and just awe at his incredible talents. The food... Oh my gosh, there is nothing justifiable to how super yummy the grub is. Sushi rolls are huge, big fat stuffed rolls with perfect balance and consistency of wholesome fresh fillings throughout with soft and chewy texture as it should be. Make sure to take advantage of their Brown and Black Rice offerings to mix things up and tasted great. Id recommend Brown rice with my all time favorite of Crunchy Yam Roll! The menu has some gnarly and quirky options with a ton of great vegetarian options The staff were also super accommodating and even prepared our delicious food in a separate area after we mentioned my wife was pregnant in aid to prevent cross contamination. They are all super friendly, approachable, extremely talented and professional. They make the most delicious food efficiently and accurately with 5 star service. Id recommend this place to absolutely anyone and would happily come here every day to taste everything on their menu. Support local business!!
Descent experience , the Salmon oshi was very good !Service was excellent! Nathan was our server, he was amazing, friendly, always smile , recommend us Ichiban roll, very tasty and Seafood salad, was very fresh ! The restaurant look very traditional and clean! So try it out guys, it s upstair, you ll enjoy this descent restaurant!
Delicious sushi shop
I loved Chicken
This is one of the budget friendly Japanese restaurants. Great authentic Japanese cuisine. Friendly family staff. Highly recommended.
so good
Absolutely delicious!!! Be sure to try amber roll. Tbh, the food is underpriced for quality and taste they deliver
We visited this restaurant during our vacation and their special sushi rolls and tuna tataki were amazing. 6 stars out of 5. Will definitely go again when we visit :)
Fresh and delicious
BEST SUSHI PLACE EVER!!! We have made this our regular go to sushi place, as having tried a lot of different restaurants, this is by far one of the best tasting and quality sushi places we have found. Just wish I lived around the corner so I could go even more often! They have brown rice and black rice options which not many places provide. The price is very reasonable for the quality you get is amazing. Very fresh ingredients, super friendly staff who always welcome us with a smile. Being pregnant and vegetarian, I feel super safe coming here to eat as they are always cautious with not mixing the raw fish preparation tools with my order. 100% would recommend and Im going to always use this as my go-to Japanese food!!
Have been here many times and was very good as usual. The mother in law took us out for an early fathers day! Good basic bento for those who like to play it safe, and good specialty stuff for the more daring sushi eater. Food
Amazing food and fantastic service. Staff were super helpful and we had a wonderful lunch.
I didnt like its Alaska roll as I felt the fish was not fresh and it didnt have any sauce on it
Amazing experience!! Food was soo fresh and yumm. Definitely will come back.
Different owner (3rd) but this place is the OG and has been in business since the 80s. Friendly staff, delicious family meal, and great value.
Oh my goodness. This sushi place is amazing. Has atmosphere, good music, great service and the food is glorious. So incredibly good! 100% recommend!!
This used to be my to-go when I was looking for sushi close to my house. The owner has changed and I feel like the food is dramatically affected. I wouldnt say it was bad , it was just not what I had expected from my previous experience. I will have to go a few more times to leave a proper recommendation.
We ordered take out bento boxes for lunch. It was okay. It was mostly cold by the time we got it! The chicken portion was more less a chicken cutlet, which is definitely NOT the way to go! Disappointed in that part! Ive definitely had better!
Wonderful aesthetic, presentation, and service. Had the Yaki Udon which was a generous portion at a good price (while also being incredibly delicious)!
Love this spot. The waiters were amazing and super nice. The sushi is fresh and delicious and love the atmosphere!
I didn t get to try the food because they brought mine and didn t bring my partners food so we left The service wasn t good
Cannot believe I found a gem in West Vancouver. Hidden in the attic, Decoration is vintage Japanese style, with a few semi private rooms and a sushi bar. This restaurant must be 40 years old!!! Why in the Attic? Back in the old days, Japanese restaurant only opens at dinner to late evening. odd marketing is that, pictures of the food are everywhere, takes away the classy feel. Food is so yummy. Sashimi is so fresh. I was told that The chief would rather not serve a dish if seafood is not fresh! I like that attitude! Portions are very generous . Must Try their Takoyaki . Its chief special... MAYBE better than Japan... That is how good it is. Services.... Be patient and enjoy. Price is very reasonable. With gas prices going up, inflation is everywhere. Oil companies are making huge profits and so is our government. Definitely worth the trip.
Good selection and portions. Very tasty!
I would have left 6 stars but Google won t let me. Best sushi I ve ever had.
I loved it! The dine in is so cozy, staff super friendly and the food was soooooooo goood.
The environment is beautiful and awsome, the staff are super nice and the food is just amazing, great place to hangout with your friends, very chill and nice
Amazing service! Loved the Clam Miso Soup, Wild Salmon Red Dragon Roll and the Teriyaki Chicken - highly recommended
We loved this place! The sushi quality is very high, each roll was fresh, full of fish, and decadent. Also the food rolls were very filling. Service was very friendly and attentive. Our server took time to explain the menu well and connect with us! I would highly recommend eating here vs across the street at those overly expensive and low quality Asian markets!
The prime spot is always the sushi bar. Watching Jason prepare each piece was a treat in itself. Everyone was so pleasent and the atmosphere was so calm. Having found this place during my visit to Vancouver last year made it perfect. Everything was so fresh and delicious I dined there almost every night.
Good place to sit and eat. Foods could be really oilly but its worth it to brush it down with some beer.
Cozy and delicious, excellent quality with great service.
We got takeout here last night and ate it on the nearby beach. The sashimi, sushi, tempura and gyozas were all delicious! Staff were friendly. We look forward to coming back to dine in when the COVID-19 restrictions ease.
Delicious high-quality food, polite staff, a great atmosphere and look to the place
Good food and great service, thank you.
Ichiban is my sons favourite sushi place (and he is quite a connoissuer). We have been missing in-restaurant dining as they have some booths with recessed floors I believe are called horigotatsu. The service is good, the food is consistently delicious and prices reasonable.
Never had a bad time in the 15+ years of going. Grabbed lunch to go there today and they surprised me with some free appies, everything s was top notch. Good quality, service and value 10/10.
Always very nice and polite. Sushi is always great.
I tried pork gyoza and takoyaki and I really liked them! Were super tasty. My husband doesnt usually eat Japanese food, but both waitress tried to help him founding something that he may like and they got it right suggesting Katsu nabe. I really suggest this place!!
GOOD FOOD.
Exceptional sashimi and sushi Lots of options from noodles, bentos to share plates. Highly recommend
Really high quality and great service!!
This was a pleasant surprise on our visit to West Vancouver. The service was excellent and the food was fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the soft shell crab appetizer. The sushi and sashimi combo was as good as it can be. Also, it was the first time for my 5-year old daughter to eat salmon sashimi. She gave it two thumbs up.
We stopped for a quick bite to eat. We enjoyed our Sushi & Yakisoba. The atmosphere was excellent and service on point.
Wow!! I am very impressed, the sushi was the best I had ever had. The restaurant was clean the service was excellent. A huge variety on the menu. If I lived near by that would be my favorite restaurant. Its to die for.
Wow, a nice find! Excellent food, cosy interior and friendly service :)
THE BEST SUSHI EVER! I ve had sushi growing up and tried so many places in and around Vancouver and GOD DAMN THIS IS THE BEST SUSHI! So fresh! The fish just melts in your mouth. It doesn t leave a fish after taste or anything. ITS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Got the Maki Combo A (California, Tuna, and Salmon) SO GOOD!
Great Food. Good Atmosphere. Spectacular Service.
Went here thinking it was the Ichiban headquarters it is not but is is a good restaurant
Japanese girls serve, authentic Japanese food.
Amazing service , great food! Thanks for a great night
Ordered takeout. Sushi is Ok. The fried tofu is disappointing. Three stars over all.
Nice place to eat, the team is very friendly and helpful. Was delicious.
Not authentic Japanese.
Cute place, easy to miss from the street: located on the second floor with an unassuming entrance right next to the Vietnamese restaurant on Marine Drive. Food was great and service fast and friendly.
For the money we paid, I expected way better quality sushi. Everything seemed slightly below the normal standard you would expect, and I thought their chopped scallop roll was gross; it did not seem fresh at all. There are way better sushi places around. Will not be back.
Good restaurant with small private corners (reservation required)
One of the best come and try lovely place nice and warm the food was fresh we will be back for sure
Great sushi and sashimi. The service was also great.
Good service and delicious food.
The sushi here is awesome! We order the Volcano special roll and it was incredible. The service is also great. 10 out of 10 would recommend this restaurant!
We had great service and the sashimi was really good.
cozy clean Japanese restaurant, I ordered over the phone, it was ready on time. The food quality was great. The service was perfect. Recommended. A worth trying experience.
A nice restaurant on the second floor in an easily accessible area. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and the decor was comfortable.
The place is super cute and our server was the nicest restaurant staff I ve come across. The house roll was very fresh, a must try.
Very quick and great spicy agadashi
Very friendly service, and great quality! - We had the Agedashi Tofu, Tempura and some rolls. Please try the Ichiban roll. It s divine!
Quick service, the clam miso soup was great (plenty of clam in there), the Ichiban Roll was amazing, the Seafood Salad was top notch as well. Overall, great place to grab some quality sushi!
Had a vareity of dishes. All were fantastic. Service was top notch, fast, friendly and polite. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Delicious Sushi
Hidden gem
Super tasty sushi, very friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere and decor. Definitely recommended.
Great place, very cozy, food is delicious and they have some very comfortable booths that are more traditional Japanese style. Restaurant is upstairs so theres a nice view of the street below for people-watching if youre into that kind of thing.
This is our go to Sushi restaurant in West Van! The management has recently changed but the quality hasnt. It is consistently fresh!
Excellent oysters, sashimi and nigiri. nice setting and excellent service.
Great food and nice atmosphere. Have been going here for years. Recently changed owners, and the quality has held high.
Most chill place Ive been to. Take some friends here its just a vibe and a half.
lovely place! such a wonderful, quiet ambience each time i ve visited. service is excellent and very quick. the employees are courteous and extremely kind.
We had such a positive experience just now! We ordered take-out and the food was delicious. The real crab California roll was the best Ive ever had! They wrote us a kind note thanking us for choosing them and for supporting their local businesses during this time (COVID). There were three lollipops for the kids as well, which was an awesome surprise, as well as free gyoza. We will be back for sure! Thank you to everyone at Ichiban and stay safe
I bought salmon bowl, eel and avocado roll for takeout. I had high expectations because of the good reviews, but I was a little disappointed. In particular, the salmon bowl had a poor appearance and some of the vegetables in it were black, so I didnt feel like eating it and ate it. Also, is the lime that came with it a dry lime? I was surprised because I saw it for the first time in Vancouver. Is it normal in Vancouver? The service itself was good, such as the gyoza included, but the appearance and taste didnt match the price, so I dont think Ill go again.
The servers were very nice and the food was very fresh. The waitress gave excellent recommendations and would highly recommend this restaurant.
Ichiban has been my favourite sushi restaurant for years! The staff are always so sweet and helpful, and the food is delicious.
Very good place, delicious food and lovely people. Defenetly recommend this place
Great service and great food.
Good food
I love the food and love the people who work here! They re absolutely nice! I definitely suggest this restaurant!
This cute Japanese restaurant is on the second floor of a building on Marine drive in West Van. It s a great spot for lunch specials! We ve been here twice and both times have been great. Some of their menu items are on the pricy side but if you go for lunch it seems like it s pretty in line with other Japanese restaurants. The place itself inside is very cute with the private booths. Makes it feel very traditional. The service was great the last time we went. The male server was very attentive and friendly. I ordered the bento box and my friend got the spicy salmon sashimi. Both were delicious! I would recommend the Teriyaki Bento box! It came with edamame, miso soup, salad, tempura, California roll and the teriyaki of choice (I got the beef. They have chicken as well) the beef is like bulgogi (thinly sliced). Very flavourful. You also get a lot. We were very full by the end of the meal. (I would be interested in exploring the menu more next time). Would definitely recommend this place if you re in the area! A cute spot for lunch!
Food was good but not the best sushi I tried. The decor inside made me feel like I am in & Japan which is awesome and the server was very polite.
Exceptional Japanese food...
Amazing food and friendly service. Must dine here
