We came for brunch and the service, food and atmosphere were exceptional. Cleo, our waitress, was very attentive, professional and smiling. Thank you to the whole team for this very pleasant morning.

Food was great though service was rather slow, the owner noticed it and didn t charge us also invited us for a lunch that is on him. This should be shown in lectures on how to run a restaurant and create a loyal customer base.

I have been to Donato 10+ times. I have never had a bad course. The staff is super professional. It s one of my favourite restaurants in the city.

We met friends for brunch and, despite the gloomy weather, the welcome and the cuisine made us forget about the weather. From the moment we entered, we were greeted with kindness and efficiency. The table service is attentive: our requests are taken into account and the recommendations made are perfectly adapted to each of us. We had a great time with very friendly staff!

If you can afford it, GO! Your mouth will be ABSOLUTELY FLOODED with flavor that you will never want to end. The Orange-cake dessert is EXCELLENT. As soon as someone will pay for me, i will return in a heartbeat!

Nice restaurant filled with pretty people. Lovely service but very poor food for the price: The oysters seem preserved in fresh water and lack salt. They are tasteless. (Probably better in season) Plain fried squid. As for my ricotta gnocchi with basil sauce: I didnt see any ricotta. A single basil leaf in a very basic sauce. The dish should be called Mini gnocchi with basic sauce Book in advance for indoor seating or be better dressed than us!? (Difficult to access, the terrace, for my 101 year old father, with a broken foot. The portico is not suitable for disabled people.)

First time at Donato. Will definitely be back but if you prefer a younger vibe book a table after 8pm. Unfortunately we booked too early and got the family and retirement crowd. The service was outstanding, very informative and very accommodating. I had the pasta with seafood and it was simply delicious. Everything was fresh. Very well priced for quality of food. The restaurant is nicely decorated and very stylish. Modern yet feels quaint and warm.

Went to this restaurant twice (Sunday and Thursday night) in the last week as I like to give a place 2 tries before I make up my mind. Unfortunately, as nice as the staff and the atmosphere is, this place simply does not bring satisfaction in terms of food and value. Most things we have eaten were close to being good, but always fell short of being done just right. For the price point, I feel like the quality of the execution should really be higher. Heres what we ate: the fennel salad had all the ingredients right, but was overdressed which killed it. The grilled octopus was okay, but the bean purée it came with was bland and not seasoned at all, bringing the whole dish down. The asparagus were okay, cooked well and the Fontina and breading on top brought flavour, but overall very average and underwhelming. Salmon tartare: same thing, just fell very flat after a few bites, nothing particular, but really not hitting the spot. The lobster linguine was the biggest let down. For some reason, the lobster meat wasnt served in fresh chunks; it seems as though they just took lobster meat and stuffed it into some sort of mold and cut it up and threw it in the pasta - the shape of the meat was in these compressed little rectangles, very bizarre. Maybe because it isnt lobster season, so they use flaked lobster meat instead of cooking fresh lobsters and shucking them into the dish? Either way, the sauce also didnt taste much of lobster, which would be the case if they used fresh lobster. If it truly is as raved about as the servers say, I would suggest to keep it a seasonal dish, rather than have an expensive, disappointing dish half of the year. The filet mignon was good, but the char made by the sauce made the outside bites bitter. They also dont seem to serve their meat with any sides here, just a plate of meat, so it was very intense with the foie gras - it wouldve been nice to have anything to cut the richness of the dish. If the desserts are consistent with the olive oil cake and chocolate terrine, I would say to avoid desserts in general. They just fell short as a whole, nothing amazing, didnt really hit the spot. I would choose a different shape for the cake and add stronger accompanying flavor, otherwise it is just lacking. The chocolate terrines texture was just off, kinda like a really fudgey chocolate. Not enjoyable at all unfortunately. I will say that the ragu pasta was spot on though! Execution was right, flavors were on point, portion was perfect - very satisfying. Maybe this restaurant is more of a pizza and pasta joint? In which case my ordering was just off and thats on me. But if that is the case, I would prefer they put what they are good at on the menu, and take off everything else. Having items on the menu that are barely average or below satisfaction really lowered the experience of this place. I did comment about the salad to my server, to which the chef offered to compensate with a dessert. But after everything tasted, I found it wasnt worth mentioning every little detail to the server since the issue here doesnt seem to be a one-off, but rather just a lack of execution as a whole. I find this really unfortunate, because if everything was, at a minimum, seasoned right and executed right, this place could be a solid regular neighborhood joint. Alas, I find myself full, but not satisfied, and out 500$. I do not recommend this place, but I am sending love and hope my comments can be helpful to you.

Authentic high quality food

The food was good but vastly overpriced. The HVAC made the experience very uncomfortable. They staff seemed to be battling over the temperature and as a result we were very cold. They made a mistake on the order and brought the wrong item. I would not go back

I had the chance to dine at Donatos recently and I must say it was an extraordinary experience. As soon as we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by passionate and attentive staff. The asparagus was simply amazing! I have rarely tasted such fresh and tasty asparagus. They were prepared to perfection, a real delight for the taste buds. They were so good that I forgot for a moment that I was eating vegetables. The service was impeccable from start to finish. The staff was not only attentive, but also very knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. Their knowledge of Italian cuisine and recommendation of Italian wines was spot on. Lets talk about the wine selection: a real journey through the wine regions of Italy. The wines chosen were both delicious and complementary to the dishes we tasted. In summary, Donato is a premier Italian restaurant in Montreal. If youre looking for an authentic dining experience, with exceptional service and a selection of quality Italian wines, look no further. I highly recommend Donato to anyone who loves Italian food and good wine.

Very disappointing

Donato is a true gastronomic gem! Their burrata is simply divine, among the best I have ever tasted. The service is impeccable, and what really impressed me was that they not only took into account the note I left over the phone, but they also honored it perfectly. Its this kind of attention to detail and customer focus that makes all the difference. I am literally in love with this place and I highly recommend it to all lovers of good food and quality service.

Have been wanting to go here forever and it finally happened!! Had such a high hopes and I was not disappointed! Our waiter was Darwiche and he was just ok. The food was excellent though! We got calamari and oysters as appetizers then we both got pasta for our main course. We finished off the night with amazing tiramisu! Music was not too loud. It was such a nice, lively atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!

It was my first time at the restaurant last night and it was absolutely phenomenal! I went for a birthday and we had the group menu! Every bite was heavenly. Each plate tasted Devine and if I had to choose a place for my last meal, it would be at Donato s. lol Amazing team and service and the chefs nailed every dish! It was worth every penny and the exceeded our expectations. Keep up the great work! Oh and the Tiramisu was so amazing, fresh and light.

Came on a Sunday night with my son. Warm ambiance. Staff is excellent with kids. Pasta was phenomenal. Definitely a must visit and we will be back soon! Kid-friendliness: Very accommodating.

We had a bad experience on a Tuesday evening. Service was under par, we were neglected the entire evening. Food was ok. The cocktail of the day was 25$+tax lol

The food was amazing, but the service was subpar. It took our waiter almost 30 minutes just to ask us which drinks we wanted and another 20 minutes to receive them. He never bothered to ask us if we were ready to order (and weve chosen our plates within 10-15 minutes from sitting down) , we had to ask him if we could order our plates and he seemed annoyed by our request as if it hasnt been almost an hour weve been waiting. Lol Other than that, the food was great and everyone else gave us a good friendly service.

Attention!!! Best calamari ive ever had.... I do not say that lightly by an means. The pastas were amazing. the cocktails were amazing. Service was amazing. I had no idea i would find such a banger here but to our surprise Donato is on point!

Overpriced. Ordinary. Good service.

This is a tricky review to write. First the positives: 1) Place looks great. Its a contemporary design without the sterility that often means here in Montreal where contemporary usually means cold. In this case, there is a lot of warm wood, curved elements, perfectly positioned soft lighting and translucent carnelian counter tops that glow warmly on the faces of those above them. 2) The service is absolutely impeccable. Our server was well informed and every detail was attended to on time and in perfect order. 3) The bar seems pretty innovative and they have an excellent choice of private import wines that are reasonably priced. Now for the negatives and heres where it gets tricky. The food comes to your table, beautifully plated and very well designed and assembled from a visual standpoint. There are a few issues for us: everything was somewhat bland and uninteresting to the taste. So the promise of the good looking food, and plating and all of the other positives mentioned amplifies your disappointment when you ultimately put the food in your mouth. The portions are also ridiculously small on the entrees and while, the grilling is splendid (absolutely perfect in fact) the taste is not quite there. That doesnt mean anything tasted bad. It just didnt taste that good nor did it offer any kind of newness to the palate which given the expectation created and the rather high prices, leads to disappointment with the overall experience. The place is new and you get the feeling the staff really wants to make things work exceptionally well. It just may take some time for the kitchen to catch up with the rest of the place.

Went for dinner on a Thursday with a friend to catch up! Very friendly waiter, they take your coat and bag if you d like which was very appreciated. The atmosphere is dark, moody, and beautiful. We got drinks (very refreshing and worth the price), a Caesar salad to split (good but not worth the price point), and a pasta plate each. I got the ragu (not tomato base so new - surprisingly tasty and would order again) and my friend got the conchiglie dish (very good, simple but tasty). We also each got a dessert (tiramisu was good but nothing crazy) and the chocolate pistachio dish (very decadent but a small portion). Overall, I d go again and recommend as staff was wonderful and the food was overall yummy. One point is knocked off as it took nearly 45 minutes to get our bill despite it not being very busy.

We so enjoyed our dinner here. The food was great, as was the service. The decor is fantastic, and there is a great vibe. Balanced between neighbourhood charm and high-end eatery.

Exceptional service!!!

I ve visited Donato twice. The first time for cocktails and entrees at the bar, the service by Arianne was beyond amazing, I d tell her what alcohol base I liked and let her get creative and I was not disappointed with her cocktails. Second visit for Valentine s Day and the service was once again friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The food was excellent and accommodating to vegetarian diet. Great wine suggestion as well. The restaurant is in Westmount, serves fresh ingredients and well executed plates, if you re expecting low costs this isn t the place, but for a special night, in my opinion, it is worth it. Vegetarian options: There were enough vegetarian options for every course.

Place is amazing upscale italian in westmount good meats drinks etcc vibe is great but way overpriced.. truffle fries 16$ or we got a pizza and added mushrooms and olives to it 5$ for each extra topping so it was 10$ to add a few mushrooms and olives ridiculous.. i like it but prices are highhhh We got a pizza to share and 2 drinks and fries 120$ approx.

Great experience at Ristorante Donato! We had dinner as a group of 11 people and the service and food was impeccable!! Delicious appetizers, entrees (Lobster spaghetti and steaks were highlights) and outstanding desserts, with a great cocktail selection and wine list for every budget! Can t wait to go back!

When you pay more than 50$ for a dish, you expect a few things, first off you expect the dish to be better than your average trattoria and secondly you expect great service. So the dishes were boring, Gentile on St-Catherines has better pasta for half the price. All our plates were unfortunately tasteless because we are used to a higher standard in Montreal. Service was done by a few kids who are used to fast-food restaurant..... guys plates were brought before the ladies, the wait time between them was too long, then they start picking up empty plates before everyone is done eating. Even Da Giovanni waiters knew better. The whole thing left us with a big bill and a bitter experience. The decor and ambiance is nice but it will not compensate for boring food and lack of service

Burrata is a must! Conchiglie a la vodka are so tasty, but the portion is small for the price . The Gnocchi a la ricotta are not worth it I LOVED our server , she is so sweet and attentive. The sour Donato was good but pricey The ambiance is moody and beautiful!

Excellent food AND excellent service still exists here. Everything was sublime starting with the concighle pasta, 40 Oz Porterhouse alla Fiorentina and the ricotta zucchini pizza. Our server Julian was exceptional and the management was very accommodating and professional. Best restaurant Ive been to in a few years. Bravo to the ones running this fine tuned operation.

Donato s did not disappoint us one bit. We didn t order any drinks, but the food O M G. No complaints at all. We ended up ordering the truffle parmesan fries, some pasta (i forgot the name, i think it may have had a vodka sauce), and i also forgot the oz of our streak, BUT I will say it melted in our mouths like butter. Capped our night with coffee. Amazing.

Wow! My boyfriend and I visited for a date night and it did not disappoint! This place has a beautiful interior with a plant ceiling and a nice patio. Our server was very nice, knowledgeable, and attentive. We started with the burrata and it was amazing. The hazelnuts added a nice crunchy texture to balance with the soft cheese. For our entrees, I had the margarita pizza and my boyfriend had one of the specials, a duck dish with mushrooms. Everything was 10/10. For my birthday I went to eat at Donato with my little family and my mother . Everyone was pleasantly happy with the warm welcome we received. The decor is sublime and also warm. From a service point of view, our server knew his menu which gave us confidence in his choices. Then for the meal, what I can say WoW, we all tried different dishes, whether it was grilled, fish or pasta, all the choices were delicious... This restaurant deserves to relive the experience again and again, thank you very much

Very chic, fashionable atmosphere and decor, for a Beautiful people clientele. Lots of staff for a service that aims to be attentive but which brings starters at the same time as the dishes. Dishes with high prices but whose appearance and taste are not up to par. My gnocchi came with a bland sauce, my cherry panna cotta seemed industrial. I wont go back there because of the poor value for money and I dont identify with the targeted clientele.

Wow, we tried this restaurant randomly, and we were so impressed! The food is AMAZING. A bit pricey but worth it for a special occasion. Also, very pleased by the service, the quality of the food, the decor, and all the details (scented candle in the bathroom, getting fresh new plates after finishing our appetizer, the busboy being so attentive and fast to clean our table, the good choice of background music) that really made my sister s birthday dinner a good one. Special mention to our waiter Melissa, who was so sweet, calm, professional, she really made us feel like home. Excellent restaurant. Very pleasant service. Dark and very cozy atmosphere. The pasta is fresh and is a real delight, the flavors are delicate and very pleasant in the mouth. The squid is very good and tender, it deserves to have a little more though. The truffle fries were excellent. The portion was generous. I will go back there to try the pizzas, and have some pasta again for sure! I highly recommend. Wide choice of wines and cocktails are very good!

Amazing!!!! We had salmon tartare, bistecca (20oz), green pea ravioli, truffle fries and olive oil cake. Tartare was so fresh and very good start to our lovely meal. OMG! The steak! It is one of the best steaks we had in Montreal. It goes very well with the fries. We weren t a big fan of green pea ravioli unfortunately. The filling was like a paste and wasn t to our taste. We finished our meal with this beautiful warm olive oil cake. As much as it sounds not like a dessert, it was one of the best ways to finish your dinner. Don t miss out! The atmosphere was very nice and the staff were friendly. We enjoyed our night a lot. Definitely recommend it and we will come back for sure! Thank you so much :) Vegetarian options: We didn t try this time but there are beautiful vegetarian options. Next time, they are on our list together with some vegetarian pizza. Nothing special , went there to celebrate my bday because I had seen a picture of a specific food that I wanted and i had been craving it really bad just for them to tell me that is not on the menu . I took something else and was horrible , my friends wanted me to talk to the waitress and asked for an exchange but she didn t seem friendly and she looked fed up!

Beautiful place! A bit loud, but it must be my age. Everyone that was there seemed to enjoy the loud music. We had calamari as an entree, they were really good. I have the salmon tartar, OMG one of the best I ever had. I also had the fries and loved them. My friend had the seabass, and he wasnt impressed. He said that it was ok. We sat at the bar. Service was great!!! Will definitely go back!!! I regret not taking pictures...

Mediterranean restaurant with amazing food, ambiance and hospitality. Branzino, squash tortellini and salmon tartare were exceptional and full of flavour!

I must give this place all my appreciation, we gave Donato a second shot after having a not so good experience the first time. We do not regret it, greeted with much care and great service. Food was impeccable, fresh and perfect (like last time). Great vibes all around. We will be back soon. I recommend the carrot appetizer and you must have their home made DESERT!

Super good service, super good drink. And the food is just excellent. The bread served at the beginning is really good. The Cesar salad is an essential, fresh and crunchy. The lobster pasta is really good and the rosé too

This was my second time at Donato. I really enjoy their food, atmosphere and the service is always wonderful. My only bone to pick is with the size of their branzino. It is absolutely amazing but for the price, the size is shameful! It is essentially 4 bites of fish. I would still come back and I would like to order the branzino but maybe next time there will be 5 bites on my plate? ;) Otherwise, a wonderful restaurant!

Best high end Italian food experience in Montreal. The staff is beyond wonderful, the cocktails are mind blowing, the food is top tier. The wine list is fantastic. Make a reservation and try it for yourself. Youll be so happy you did.

I like this restaurant but I can t give it a 5-star due to the squirrel portions for the price. Great flavors, service was above average and the place itself is beautifully decorated.

Bad food quality. Bad service

Located on Sherbrooke street in the commercial district of Westmount, Donato is an excellent Italian style resto with a very warm décor, classic menu options and solid service. Overall, the restaurant has a somber, subtle and quiet ambiance which makes it great for a quiet night for two. While we were there there were several larger group tables and we didnt notice until leaving. As for the menu, all the classics are there including pastas, meats, fishes and pizzas. For our group we had Caesar Salad (good...nothing great, nothing bad), Fried Calamari (very good...meat was tender, not chewy and the batter was crispy), three different pasta dishes (Conchiglie Pomodoro, Spaghetti with Lobster and Rigatoni Bianco) all of which were excellent and tasty. For dessert we had the Tiramisu and the Chocolate Terrine (both of which were very good). Service was always within reach and very friendly, with the two services delivered with little delay. Would certainly be coming back for a second visit. Enjoy!

The service was great and the food was delicious! We had initially reserved for the terrace, but the cold and the rain forced us to change our minds and we were moved inside to the bar side (because all the tables were taken). At no point did I have to look for anyone to ask anything and the service was always friendly and impeccable. The menu is indeed quite expensive but you get what you pay for, the dishes are extremely delicious, from starter to dessert! In short, if you want an evening without taking the risk of missing it, you have your address!

Amazing authentic Italian pizza!

Today was my second time going to Donato for dinner and it never disappoints. Both time I had Sami as a waiter, exceptional service. Drinks and food are amazing! Will definitely be back!

The service and food quality is exceptional. We ordered the calamari, octopus, veal chop, salmon with a few veggies. The cooking here is not your grandmother s old methods handed down. This is top tier educated cooking. Pricing is on the higher side but you re not overpaying for what you get. Recommended if you enjoy high level culinary experiences.

Very high price and small portions. Very salty and much overcooked salmon, very greasy with a taste of low quality oil (canola and not olive oil). Stick to pasta and pizza, the rest isnt great value. Service is good, decor very good.

This place hits the mark. Food was exceptional. Service was on point. Sammy took care of us. And his attention to detail is above and beyond. Just went back to Donatos had the most delicious meal. Sammy took care of us again. It was exceptional. Nadias service is like the frosting on top of the cake. She makes it all taste amazing. I appreciated the attention. She made us feel very well taken care of. I highly recommend you visit Donatos. And enjoy all the wonderful food and attention.

Everything was perfect; the atmosphere, the care from our excellent and warm server Samy (thanks again), the food. We were celebrating a special occasion and everything was well organized as I wanted. Thanks to the team! We will come back!

I feel one star is too much. The restaurant is ordinary and overpriced. If you are not ordering the 400$ bottle of wine, the waiter drops you like a pancake. He wasted 15 minutes reading the menu for us. Here is what went wrong: they do not give bread, they give focaccia. Sure lets eat focaccia, but they actually forgot it for us. We noticed everyone else get it after we ate our appetizers without it. Then they charge 69.00 for a 2 inch filet mignon. Fine, its fancy restaurant. At that price, the meat did not come with a side so I had to order a separate side dish. Another 18.00. I ordered my meat medium well. It came blue. Not exactly how I ordered it. He never came back to our table because he was spending useless time reading other tables menu. I guess he thinks no one can read. I ended up not eating my meat. He only came at the end to pick up my plate. He asked was everything okay? I said actually, no. My meat was raw. Oh well I punched it in correctly. He went to the back and came back saying the manager is offering another glass of wine. I refused. We had already drank a bottle. Was not going to get drunk on an empty stomach. He asked if we had space for desserts. I told him we would go elsewhere. We paid 340.00 and left starving. As we were leaving, he was laughing. Very classy. The front of the house girl asked how the evening was. I told her. She said leave your number. They already had it. Ive received no calls. The time to repair was then, not tomorrow. If you have money to waste for ordinary food and bad service, go here. If you want really good food, may I recommend anywhere else.

Incredible experience. Our server Samy, a sommelier with great experience, made our dinner magical. He explained everything to us, everything they had on the menu, we trusted him with the choice of wine and we didnt regret it. This restaurant is the perfect place for a small celebration, a family dinner, even a small date The prices are reasonable for the quality, everything we had was really good. I loved it!

Service was amazing! Living in Montreal am use to overpaying for food but wow this was ridiculous, around 750$ (2 bottles of wine)before tip and taxes for 4 people. I really don t mind spending when the food is delicious but this was not the case very ordinary, i ve had waaayyyy better Italian for less then half this price. Service excellent mais beaucoup trop chère pour la qualité de la nourritures. Il as de ben meilleur resto italian pour beaucoup moin chere.

The food was incredible but I don t think it was worth the price for the small portions. I loved the experience until our waiter was very unprofessional. We paid our bill and when we gave him tip in CASH, he seemed extremely disappointed. The food was expensive enough and his service was good and we gave 15% and he didn t even say thank you. He seemed upset probably because he wanted more, and then it seemed like he was talking about us to another waiter. If you re unhappy with your tip, let us know. Don t be immature and talk behind our backs. It s very insulting to us because we thought we were giving a generous tip, and we didn t appreciate the way he handled it.

Food was delicious, ambiance was beautiful and we had the sweetest server. We had the burrata app, so good. I wanted to try the Branzino (it was on the menu), but they had replaced it with swordfish so I had that instead. The fish was delicious, but it was room temperature. My risotto was amazing. Husband had the veal chop-so yummy and tender. The menu isn t extensive which I prefer, I hate having pages and pages of choices. Definitely will go back.

Trendy place with fantastic food and tasty drinks. The only thing is I found it a bit pricey but given the fact that your in westmount, it is to be expected. The overall will not dissapoint you.

Beautiful restaurant, nice vibe, but the food is very oily and pretty average. Service was good. Octopus was not fresh. Everything had way too much oil. Salad drenched with dressing. Deserts were very good.

Cant recommend this place enough! Yes, the food is incredibly expensive, but for special occasions, it is well worth it (I went for an anniversary dinner and was not disappointed). The service was top notch and the food was absolutely delicious. The steak was amazing and so were the sides (Parmesan French fries, asparagus)
