1336 Ave Greene, Westmount, Quebec H3Z 2B1, Canada
Traditional Italian dining & wines by the glass, plus a white-tablecloth ambience & picturesque art.
Dinning at Vago restaurant it was such a nice experience! Food was great, wines also, atmosphere so friendly, we felt great. The stuff was very polite ,everything very clean, overall a great experience, wi'll definitely be back. Tomasso, the owner of the restaurant was passing by every table, making sure that everybody is good and nothing is missing. He is such a nice guy ,thank you Tomasso and see you soon.
A restaurant held in high esteem by the Anglo establishment of the City of Westmount but what a total disaster this place is! One can have a much better meal at a community soup kitchen or a restaurant in a slum anywhere in the world. Atleast there would be more heart put into the preparation of the food. This restaurant survives because it has no competition in the vicinity. On the weekday night the vast majority of the clientele present were regulars, all of a certain age group which is generally known to be averse to change. The restaurant relies on this group for its business and exploits their loyalty to the maximum. Daylight robbery!!! My grilled swordfish main was over done and came with a lovely strand of hair swimmimg in a sea of what was explained to be a red pepper sauce. I got no apology for the hair in the food nor saw any expression of embarassment. The waiter serving our area kept his gaze fixed on a distant horizon as he promenaded around totally inattentive to the guests. Remarkable! There is absolutely nothing Italian about this restaurant. It exemplies all that Italian cuisine and food culture isn't. Do yourself a favor, avoid Vago even if it means skipping a meal (good for health) and donate the 100 dollars you would spend here to a foodbank. As I left the pristine City of Westmount, I gave thanks for the messiness of Montreal. One definitely eats infinitely better in Ville Marie.
It was my first time at this restaurant and we were served by a friendly, funny and hospitable waiter, shout out to Sandro. You made dining very enjoyable and we will be back! Thank you for an excellent service!
We came on Tuesday for lunch, 5 of us, the broccoli soup of the day was so salty I got a headache instantly with one spoon full, my husband and I both took it, our friends also tasted it and consensus was unanimous, extremely oversalted, we sent it back. I ordered the Taki Taki and Octopus, it was absolutely fantastic, mind you very small baby portions, it's a starter, just enough to wet the beak. Hubby got the fried calamari, also amazing, highly recommend, I should have ordered that too, then the grilled Veal over veggies, pounded to a thin patty, well prepared. The butter for the bread was rock solid, he should have took it out to thaw like an hour before opening, same for the desserts, the profiterole were also just out of the freezer, I couldn't get my knife through, had to stab it like some psycho to get to the middle, it should have been creamy but they were hard as a rock, however still delicious, not too sweet just perfect. The music was so loud I had to scream, then it was quiet so I think he figured it out. The paintings are fantastic, I was in awe just staring at them. Look, if you want professional perfect service and show off to clients go to the Keg, if you don't mind casual whatever service and overpriced food this is the place for you.
The lamb chops had excellent flavour. Nice service and a nice dining area.
I will give only 5 stars because there is no provision to give more😃! The food was melt in your mouth good and the service was beyond amazing! Already recommending it to friends😃
We tried both their special Valentine’s Day drinks, the pesto busiate, ossobuco, and tomato bruschetta — the last of which I’m still dreaming about! 🤤 I also love their proactive generosity with bread lol
I LOVE this place. My new favourite in the Westmount area. We sat at the bar and were taken care of by the owner/manager who was entertaining, attentive and funny! We had the Truffle Garlic Bread, that sent me to heaven. So melts in your mouth! That was followed up by the Butternut Squash Soup, that was rich and creamy. We also had a second order of the Garlic Bread. The soup was wonderful but could have shone on its own without the Dry Apple (yummy!) and Walnuts (not needed). Lastly for my entree, the barkeep surprised me with the Eggplant Parmesan. I really appreciated that he took the initiative, listened to what I like in passing and was confident in the restaurant's offerings. It was really good, no complaints. And my Dirty Martini was perfect! You have to go visit this place for the service (amazing) and ambiance (well lit and chic) but the food and personnel are the highlights!
Incredible. Highly recommended to anyone who likes great food and good people.
I would appreciate being offered a menu in French rather than in English from the outset.
I really enjoyed the experience, I would like to point out that Rozhans service was particularly remarkable, she is very pleasant.
Excellent food but poor service
Amazing food at reasonable pricing. Top notch service. Highly recommend.
Restaurant proudly reminds us they have been around for 23 years. excellent quality Italian in convenient location close to a parking that s feee from 18h.
Children friendly.
The atmosphere is very good and the food too. Taste the seafood pasta, it s delicious!
Great food, great ambiance, great service
Fair food. Convenient.
Delicious authentic Italian cuisine.
Wonderful food, service and hospitality! Tomasso and his team really make you feel like family!!
Vago the best
Great food. All fresh made.
Food was amazing Took Rigatoni a la Vodka Entry was also amazing That was my 3rd time over there, I will go again for sure
If you are thinking of visiting this place I recommend that you go ahead and dont do it. The food is like anywhere else, it doesnt have a different flavor or anything that makes it special and add to that that the kitchen area is full of rats and that the dishwasher with the same gloves that removes the food from the plates grabs the Breads and pastas to change containers make the perfect messy combo. The service from one of the supposed owners, Nico, is rude and if Tomasso serves you you will hear a very loud and unpleasant laugh the entire time you are in the place, so neither the service nor the atmosphere is good either. Whether you go in the morning or in the afternoon. In short, the place is not worth going to spend your money on an ordinary meal with a bad atmosphere. Parking: It will take you a while to find a place to park. Wheelchair accessibility: It does not have access for the disabled
I was absolutely robbed here. Service was very sub par. Was charged 28$ for one octopus tentacle. 54$ for a filet mignon that came with 2 carrots and was served to me raw. I spent over 200$ here and was treated like a peasent. Place is very nice but would not recommend. They need to work on their service and give more value for what they offer. Second time here and was way worse than the first time.
Tiny bit loud, but hey, worth it! Service impeccable. Had Fungi Pasta....yum.
The managers are incompetent.
Eggplant parmesan delicious. Very nice atmosphere. Just a tad pricey on some items. Very nice staff Vegetarian options: Eggplant parmesan excellent
Perfect for people, who in love whith Italia. Dogs are not allowed, only if you are policmen. Vegetarian options: Some options available Dietary restrictions: Some options available Parking: Paid parking from 9 to 18 hours Kid-friendliness: Perfect Wheelchair accessibility: Not perfect
Honestly, the food isnt so great. I havent had instant potatoes since I was a child.Yuck!
Amazing ambiance, a true gem in Westmount. Shaun gives an incredible level of service and hospitality, even if it s just for an espresso. Highly recommended.
A visit to Vago deserves a 5-star review for its unmatched ambiance, exceptional service, and exquisite Italian cuisine. The cozy yet elegant setting, attentive staff, and flawlessly executed dishes create a memorable dining experience. Each bite, especially the pasta, was a testament to authentic Italian cooking with a modern twist. Vago truly stands out as a must-visit for an exceptional Italian dining.
One of the best Italian restaurants I ve ever been to, they truly never disappoint. Delicious drinks, the sausage gnocchi and tuna tataki are to die for. Definitely a must order. I also do not even like tiramisu and I m obsessed with theirs!! Do not miss out
We stumbled upon this place on Open Table. Our waiter Sandro (i think?) was amazing. He definitely made our time worthwhile. Their amaretto sour was delicious. The tuna tataki was amazing. Also really enjoyed their truffle butter sauce gnocci.
All round amazing!
Food was good, service was nice.
Fantastic spot. One on my favorite in town. The calamari and the tuna bruschetta are amazing.
Tasty food and drinks. Great service and atmosphere.
Great food and lovely staff
Food was delicious and environment was great, the dessert was amazing .
I went with friends and the service was fabulous The meal took a little long to come but the staff was nice We had a good time Ill go back to get a better opinion.
Unprofessional Bald waiter talks to people with disrespect and tries to intimidate. Dont eat there !
Great service and food! Brought my date there for Valentines day. Staff was very nice and gave us free shots. The gnocchi are to die for!
We had great service from Franco. Thank you !! Recommended dishes
Great food great service. Being in the business myself I was tremendously pleased
The lack of courtesy from this restaurants owner & manager is not what my friends & I expected. Despite the good food you taste & the cheesy smile they put on, theyre really irresponsible of whats under their care.
Been coming here since I can remember. Very friendly staff, great service, and amazing food! This is worth the try
Really good services and foods. Good environment, Went there with my friends . Had a happy nice. The pasta taste really good . Especially the one called meet sauce or smt ? Really have to try that
Amazing experience!
Sandro was super nice! Highly recommend Vago, from the service, to the staff and menu everything was 5 stars! We had a great time and will definitely be back!
The food is ok, edible but not impressive. The service, however, is unbelievably bad. We were left waiting at the door for several minutes and none of the waiters came to us. We waited at least 30 minutes for the entrees, and during the painfully long wait none of the waiters cared to explain to us why aren t our foods arriving. The other guests are obnoxiously loud, as they were all heavily intoxicated. Them talking about women in a condescending manner also didn t help with the atmosphere. Overall, terrible experience, kinda ruined italien dining for me.
Grilled Octopus (Charred Spanish octopus, red onion, caper berries), Gnocchi (Crumbled sausage, truffle butter sauce), and Grilled Veal
Excellent service, atmosphere, and exquisite food
Great food great staff
The waiters insistence on the wine list presented without the menu. Plastic bottle for water service. The pasta and the risotto very ordinary the bill much less Positive points: the wine and the kindness of the server.
Disappointing. Got the group menu. The food was bland and lacked salt. My appetizer included sliced tomatoes and one of them still had the sticker on it !!!
A delicious meal - my first time at this restaurant. Our server Evan was friendly and efficient. Lots of staff. Everything. Tasted delicious. I had Cesar salad and a pesto rigatoni which was wonderful. My wife had a minestrone soup and chicken parmigiana. Also very good. Pistachio tiramisu to end the meal. The owner came over to say hello and ask how our meal was. I shall return easy street parking in the evening
This place is impeccable. The service is top notch. The atmosphere is sharp. The food is delectable morsel after delectable morsel. The whole experience was thoroughly pleasing and was worth far more than the bill at the end of the night. Go! Youll love it.
If I could I would give not even a half star. That is biggest criminal, dodgy, bloodsucking their employees kind of place I have ever experienced in my entire life. They don t pay their employees!!! Bankrupt fiscally and morally.
Very pleasant evening!
Best restaurant in town, between our friends and family we have been coming here for years, top of the line staff, absolute true professionals, 110% recommended
Good food and service
One of our favorite places to go. The food is consistently amazing.
delicious food and a beautiful restaurant :)
Food and drinks were delicious! Really loved the little rose and candle on the table~ Space was a little bit crowded though.
For me, the food is too salty and everything is over-priced.
Was very satisfied with the food! Quick and caring service (saturday night). Chic but not over-the-top ambiance, would go back! :) only con: cocacola was very watered down
Just picked up dinner and profiterole. Wow, 10/10. The owner told me, See ya tomorrow Now I understand why! Bravo Vago!
Excellent dinner in excellent company
Impeccable service, attentive waiter and delicious food!
Excellent service !!! Thank you Franco, food was delicious and ambience was just perfect. At the end of an amazing dinner I got a hug from Franco - saying hope to see you again! That was the highlight :)
Food was very good. Service was excellent
Good
Still one of my favorite!
Excellent food!
Outstanding service by entire staff, delicious food and great wine suggestions. By far the best Italian cuisine we ve ever been to.
Great place to enjoy an authentic Italian cooked meal, made to perfection
Very satisfied with the service and the food. I highly recommend for either a date night or a night out with a group of friends.
Good food and vines and impeccable service
Went to Vago for a date night. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. Best Gnocchi Ive ever had! Absolutely mouth watering.
Amazing quality food
This is one of the most tasty, great Italian food I have tasted in quite a while. Our family enjoyed all our food, and nothing was left on our plates. I strongly recommend.
Bra6
Very good food, incredibly courteous staff, good service Highly recommended!
On my first visit to Vago I was beyond impressed by the attention to detail not only in the good & drink but the service not just for my table but from all the staff for every guest. Above and beyond in every way. I will definitely be back!
My first visit to Vago and it definitely will not be my last. The restaurant is very cozy and inviting. The service was superb. I felt like I was very special. The food was so delious. My only regret was we didnt have enough room for dessert. So I will definately be back.
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Ive been going with my family since it opened. I booked a reservation online two weeks early, only to be informed the night before that we would only really have an hour to eat, as we were being bumped by a large office party. It was clear that they wanted us to cancel, as we were forced to. I felt completely insignificant and dismissed. I understand the XMas party rush, but we are the little people that keep you afloat through the rest of the year. Shame on you. You still get 5 stars for the food; ethics would be 1= 3 stars overall.
Great Italian food with warm and friendly service. Pricey but worth it!
Super good food. Quality and service worth experiencing
Great food. Well prepared, even steak medium-rare, in an Italian restaurant! Good variety too. And very pleasant staff.
The menu is pricy. I would expect more for that price.
Beyond phenomenal service and food. Every single morsel was euphoric
Great Italian restaurant with amazing menu and sauces.
The food is absolutely exceptional. The desert were outstanding. Very good meal in general. The service was a bit express/rushed/unprofessional - with the waiters not so keen in helping out, not really suggesting anything and not really catering to what we needed. I had won a coupon from a formal fancy event allowing for a meal for 2, and it felt like we were treated like second class clients (and I have been to MANY fancy restaurants ;)). Once at the table, the waiter was able to provide some recommendations. The Bus-boy (bus girl I should say) was absolutely outstanding and welcoming, nice and patient, taking the time to smile and bring in some suggestions. Overall a 4/5 because of the quality of the food and the ambiance. I will probably not go again though.
Vago is a focused experience. If youre looking for great Italian food and service - this is the spot. My only issue was my old fashioned cocktail - Im still surprised when some places dont use a single large ice cube. A watered down old fashioned is no good
Great meal in a great environment.
Great ambiance and my meal was delicious
Private reception. Family/friends. 5 star experience. Menu, service, ambiance, décor, cleanliness. All top notch. Staff was professional and the food was terrific. Had the veal. Everyone enjoyed their plates. I definitely recommend and will return.
Always great.
Excellent neighborhood restaurant.
Personal not welcoming... Lack of professionalism
The food was incredible. Every plate from the entree to the desert was flavorful and perfectly balanced. Our new favorite spot for a great meal.
Great service and fantastic food. Highly recommended!
Phonomenal food and service for our group of 10 people, which included a mix of fussy vegans and hungry carnivores. Everyone was served together with little delay. All dishes looked (and were) scrumptious!
I went to this restaurant with my friends we were a total of 8. Our waiter was very nice and his service was great. A small comment however, upon arrival our table had water and mineral water on it in clear, unlabelled bottles. When our waiter asked which water we wanted all assumed it was either or and iI only found out after getting my bill we were charged for the mineral water. I want to clarify that I dont mind for the extra 4 dollars however i would just like to be told or even be given a bottle of San Pellegrino. In addition, having not seen my friends over the holidays we were catching up. I was showing my friends a video on my phone from the previous weekend as we are laughing another employee came up to our table and scolded us like children saying You know you arent alone here! We were 8 people at this restaurant what do you expect us not to talk. As a waiter myself, I would never talk to a client like this. The dinner just started and in fact we were waiting for one more person to arrive. I just think there is a nicer way of talking to someone especially, if we are clients. Very disappointing.
Bad food, overpriced
expensive
We chose this restaurant quite by chance, because it was near our accommodation. The staff were very attentive until we chose to go without wine. The dish of the day is given orally without the price. It will be the same for desserts which are not entitled to their own menu. Perhaps giving prices is too vulgar for this restaurant which aims to be of a certain standard while broadcasting hockey on the big screen. But what we will remember most is being completely ignored by the staff after the main course, for too long a time not to be deliberate. Im not talking about a few minutes, and it clearly wasnt a rush. I cant wait to find my Italian restaurants on terraces in the sun on the old continent, more popular but surely more authentic. To think that it was recommended to us. Ciao!
Food was ok (veal parmigiana) i wanted pasta with garlic on the side(same plate ) but was given like an entree separately... A little expensive for what i got.
High-end Italian cusine. Amazing flavors and perfect service. Nice wine selection. I recommend it strongly.
Food is very good but restaurant is VERY overpriced
The food was delicious. I enjoyed my stay, the atmospher was nice. The prices are a little high. The only think is parking. Its very hard to find one.
Excellent Italian cuisine
Delivery: beef tartare was very good but messy presentation. Cavatelli was passable, didnt expect the meat to be minced. Calamari was okay.
Really good service from employees. However, the employees are not treated well, they do not get the money they earned from their hardwork (personal witness). Some employees do not get their tips after months of having requested it. I will not support these kind of businesses. They are not cooperative to their employees even after a request from the CNESST. This buiness must change its behaviour towards their employees.
The hair in my food wasn t even the worst part
Any restaurant that doesn t pay there employees shouldn t be considered a establishment. Wouldn t recommend spending your money here.
Doesn t pay their employees ! Horrible experience
Terrible!!
Very rude
Excellent Italian and Portuguese food at fair prices. Staff is friendly. Quiet room available in back of Resto for small group.
Best italian food i ate
Excellent service and quality. Vago is wonderfully warm and charming and when you are faced with the dish on your table the experience is complete. A mix of gourmet idea with a touch of local cantina. For sure a restaurant to visit in Montreal!
Fabulous food. Amazing service.
Very attentive and professional service with Bruno and all the staff. Excellent menu selections and very well prepared and presented dishes. Definitely will be returning to sample the rest of their menu. Highly recommended.
Didnt visit there either, my daughters office is in the neighborhood, most probably I had parked there & Google spotted me.
Very good Italian food and wine selection. Service is professional and expected for this class of restaurant. Ambiance Its very modern and chic! Highly recommended.
Very good service and good food
Yummy! If you have a craving for some excellent Italian food, this is a great place to visit.
This is one of the most wonderful restaurants in Montreal! The service was super, the food was insane, the drinks did flow. The art was also very cool.
went early for drinks, my friend ordered some meat...
Good
Went for my daughters baptism and couldnt be happier. Food and service was fantastic.
Exquisite meal for flavors
Service and food was good!
Nice food, excellent service.
The food is very delicious!! Very relaxed atmosphere! And the friendly waiters!
Great food
Excellent food, impeccable service.
Great service and great food!
Amazingly tastefully wonderfully food
Service was overbearing. Food came out way too fast. Veal was cold. Prima Vera sauce was far too acidic and not fresh. Fine dining prices should be way better
Unfortunately another overpriced mediocre restaurant in the city :( as the Bolognese was acidic and the Alfredo was bland. The kale salad was tough, chewy and fibrous. In order to serve kale as a salad you need to treat it! Putting row kale leafs on a plate for $16 won t make it a salad. However, the restaurant looks very charming, quaint and the servers were very friendly.
Best Italian and food ever tasted anywhere.amongst the rare restaurants I will definitely go to again and staff and owner are just great, they serve by heart they are quite themselves not acting like anything
Very pleasant and comfortable restaurant. Very well trained staff who are attentive to customer needs. Courses served impeccably, balanced in all aspects. A restaurant with true Italian cuisine.
Awesome ambiance, great fresh food. Loved everything we ate
We were there for a group meeting, so the menu was limited. On the other hand, we still had the choice between 3 starters, 4 main courses and two desserts which is still very good. The dishes were simple but well prepared.
Master chef Angelo Mercuri is my idol.
Awesome Service and every dish we ordered was perfectly done. Desserts were spectacular.
Pretentious, not worth it.
My staff and I always have our Christmas lunch/dinner there
Nice place but a bit expensive.
Good food.
Excellent service and cuisine.!
Very noisy group of women at the next table. Otherwise, good food and excellent service
Very good food and attention. Its worth it
Italian restaurant at its best
Meh. Over priced Over hyped Food is ok Schvintzy location on Greene Ave? Get over yourselves
The meals are always very good, we really appreciate them
Pleasant place with good but not memorable food. Excellent service.
The best tasting Italian food in Montreal
What an amazing restaurant. Service was on par and very attentive. Wine glasses and water glasses both filled when needed, never had to ask once. Staff did not hover but just appeared as needed. We shared the truffle bread and sausage to start. You have to try the truffle bread it is to die for. Main courses were pasta bolognese and the salmon. Both were well prepared and cooked to perfection. The final course was profiteroles and omg where they delicious. Topped with hot chocolate sauce they are a dessert not to be missed.
Was advised by others who I was with that this restaurant is very good for non Little Italy Italian food. Admittedly, Im a tough critic. Im a New Yorker after all and we dont put up with mediocrity, particularly with our Italian food. With that said I have to go with three stars, as I think this place wouldnt last past its first year if open in NYC, and I dont have a reference point for Italian food in Montreal for comparison. Then again Montreal people like Montreal bagels and I cant stand them. Id encourage anyone in Montreal to visit NYC Little Italy namesakes like Forlinis, Vincents Clam Bar, or Tonis DiNapoli, and then let me know if you go back here....
Nice restaurant.
