We ordered delivery from the restaurant directly. It arrived later than the max delivery time, and my elderly grandmother did not enjoy her seafood delux tempura: 1) presentation was just dumped into a box vs laid out like previous orders 2 years ago. 2) too much tempura 3) only 2/5 types of fish was good and not hot 4) hard to cut veggies, very soggy. Had to reheat too. Sushi was fine, albeit smaller portions that what I’m used to getting elsewhere for same price. Was average taste. Soya sauce provided wasn’t great. And the sauce for the fish was also too salty. Free edamame and extra rice was nice. We will look for tastier fish options next time.
Quality sushi for a decent price, very affordable. Service is excellent, great place to order for Take-out .
We are amazed by the quality! Fried chickens are super crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, all kinds of sashimi are fresh and tasty. Highly recommend for sushi lovers.
Kashima is our go-to sushi place because it is around the block from where we live, and we are very happy about this fact. We have been getting Kashima sushi takeout at least twice a month for the past year and a half since moving here, and it is consistently really good. The fish is high quality and delicious and the nigiri and maki are well prepared every single time. We have tried various rolls and they're all good, and interestingly the cooked rolls are quite tasty as well (at most places we wouldn't order cooked sushi but often take the sakura roll or tiger eye which make a nice complement to the rest of the meal - they're really gingery and good). Also love their miso soup and wakame salad. Yep, basically we have never had a negative experience from Kashima and highly recommend it as a solid place that will not disappoint in Westmount.
I came here with a group for a birthday. Service was slow, and they had run out of chicken. The waitress would fill up some of our cups of water but kept forgetting my friend, who sat on my left. They also should have brought out all the main dishes at the same time but didn't so most of us awkwardly waiting for a while until the rest of our group got their dishes in order to start eating. Other than that, I found my sushi to be good.
The food is excellent. Sashimi is generously cut. Everything is very fresh. Try the Montreal roll for a real treat. Lunch specials are well proportioned for the price. The Titanic for 2 was delightful. Service can be a bit uneven but still worthy of a visit. I look forward to going back.
I went back yesterday and I have to give them 5* instead of 4*. The sashimis always taste fresh. It’s my place to go when I want eat great sushi in a nice quiet restaurant, you know just to relax. The place is very clean and staff always nice and polite.
I’m updating my original review below from 7 years ago to provide more info. Kashima has been an amazing restaurant in the community for years. Every time I have sushi there I’m amazed by how consistent both the quality and service is. The restaurant is currently now only doing take out /delivery. I used their online ordering form and it was incredible, order was received and taken care of right away and I was greeted with the same warmth and hospitality as always when I went to pick up the meal. The tempura was crispy and wonderful (which is amazing for take out) and the sushi was absolutely wonderful - as always. The Rainbow roll there is the best. Pictures included here are of the Rainbow and Kamakazi II The portions are very generous and high quality. In addition to the exceptional food, they also pay attention to every little detail down to nice quality chop sticks, fresh wasabi, plenty of soy sauce and ginger. If you want to be delighted, Kashima is the place to order from. — Original review - 7 years ago: I've been eating at this restaurant for years. Their quality of ingredients is excellent and their fish is very fresh. They have really good combinations for sushi, imaginative and tasty. The servers and staff are largely Japanese and don't necessarily speak English very well, but this adds to the charm, they are always very warm and inviting. They are usually packed at lunch so reservations are recommended. It can be a bit noisy, yet it's a very popular place for business lunches. Service is not super fast, but it is still very good, so plan your time accordingly. In the evening the restaurant is less busy. They also serve other traditional Japanese meals / bento - the chicken Katsu is good, as with most everything else I've tried. I love their fried tofu. Don't be surprised if they bring you some sort of complimentary appetizer or dessert, it doesn't happen every time, but that's just the kind of awesome people they are.
Gorgeous
Yummy sushi ,very delicious with nice portions of fish , highly recommend, amazing sushi and rolls
They closed the dine in option and only doing delivery. Food is decent but the staff is extremely rude and prices are very expensive. Although, their delivery is always taking more than 1.5hrs each time, they find the right to ask for a tip at the delivery. Terrible staff working there, very rude. Stay away!
Best sushi in westmount! Even better than Park. Excellent service.
Amazing sushi so fresh and tasty
The ingredients are fresh and delicious!
Delicious and high quality sushi!
Although Kashima is located close to our home, I only discovered it recently following a neighbours recommendation. Kashima prepares sushi for take-out only. I have been ordering a small sushi-sashimi combo. The sashimi is plentiful, very fresh and delicious, and the sushi also of excellent quality. The portions of wasabi and ginger are large and taste as if they were prepared especially for each order. The combo includes a small salad and a generous portion of miso soup. The price in view of the quality is extremely reasonable. Since discovering Kashima I have become a regular customer ( at least once a week), and l recommend it highly to those who appreciate good quality sushi and sashimi. For many years I lived in Vancouver, where sushi was plentiful, high quality, and reasonably priced. Kashima is the first restaurant I have found in Montreal that compares well to the sushi restaurants I enjoyed in Vancouver.
Best sushi in Montreal by far!
Great local sushi restaurant. The sushi and teriyaki dishes are always fresh and tasty. FYI Since the pandemic they only offer take out but it is always a treat. Vegetarian options: They offer vegetarian sushi and salads. Parking: You can find paid street parking during the day and free street parking in the evenings.
Excellent sushi! They also have good agedashi-dofu. The service is always pleasant and friendly. I have been a satisfied customer for more than 10 years.
Fresh seafood, perfect texture of sushi rice, and big portion. Best sushi shop in Montreal!!
Remind that the restaurant is not available for dine in.
Leaving a review just to let people know that this place is now take-out only! Hoping that the information also gets updated on Maps!
Restaurant only take out. They wanted to compare it to Park or Juni but we are far from the two restaurants... More coarse and less refined... The price remains high for the return obtained.
I have been going to Kashima for the past 14 years and it is my go-to restaurant for sushi. It is always fresh, the staff is always warm and welcoming and they have always gone above and beyond with their quality of food and service. A family friendly spot as well as a great takeout option.
A very good Japanese restaurant that currently only provides takeout and delivery, and only sushi. The sushi ingredients are fresh and taste authentic. The only drawback is that todays sea urchin is not tasty, it has a strong fishy smell and no fresh or sweet taste. However, I still look forward to trying other Japanese dishes after dine-in reopens.
We came down from Ottawa for the weekend and this was by far the best sushi Ive had since I left Vancouver a few years back. Everything was so fresh and tasty! 5 stars
I have always really liked this restaurant, the freshness of the fish leaves no doubt. Its really delicious. On the other hand, the salad had to be prepared in advance, the cucumber slices are all dry.
Menu only in English
Local and family run! The best place for Sushi take out. Great service and quality food. This place has been around for years and the most consistent and nicest owners.
it s my favorite sushi place.
They only do takeaway so wont rate the atmosphere. But the fish was really good and nicely prepared, menu offers a rather good choice, items are prepared fresh and the price is very decent for the quality. Best option I know for sushi take-out in the area (Ryu down the street being great but more expensive and seated)
Its been some time since we have eaten sushi here. They never disappoint. Eventhough it was take-out due to the pandemic regulations, the food was fresh and delicious.
Highly recommended! Their sushi and sashimi are always on point and so fresh! Love it! Definitely one of my favourite in town.
The most consistent, great value, great quality sushi in the city. Not fancy, but delicious. *Never had a bad meal
Great sushi! My usual sushi place in the Monkland Village was Mikado, but they have changed ownership, are now called Kiku, and the quality of their maki rolls has dropped considerably. My husband searched for the best sushi in the west end and discovered Kashima, who luckily deliver to the Monkland area. We enjoyed every bite. Goodbye Kiku, hello Kashima.
The most beautiful looking take out sushi Ive ever had.
So far the best sushi I have in Montreal
Delicious sushi, prepared quickly. Since we couldnt eat inside, we sat on the street, since there were picnic tables. Perfect.
Not bad
We were there for dinner on December 24. The place is charming, small, impeccable and warm; Exquisite meal: The sashimi (double thickness) melts in your mouth (not always the case elsewhere, with fibrous cuts) High quality tempura: ultra crispy, super light and served piping hot, with lots of firm shrimp to perfection; ( ) We shared 2 meals for 1 person: (the tempura, then the sashimi & sushi,) which was plentiful (Add a soup) Friendly and courteous Japanese waitress who can explain and recommend. Our table by the window, overlooking Greene, was pleasant, although the heating was almost too high; On December 24, we had free parking in front of the door. Only problem for my very elderly father: the long and steep staircase to climb; Good value for our order. Great experience at the time of our visit. The reputation of the place is well established!
Great service and authentic Japanese cuisine! Memorable experience.
Good sushi and other Japanese fare for a decent price in Westmount!
This is arguably one of the best sushi places in Montreal. The service is fantastic, the fish is always insanely fresh, and the prices are very reasonable for the quantity of food given. The dishes are consistently wonderful. Whether you like sushi or prefer other Japanese cuisine, I promise Kashima will not disappoint!
Very nice place good sushi
Good food, reasonable service, good prices
First time ordering takeout from Kashima, was pleasantly surprised with how fast their service was and the quality of the food was excellent at a reasonable price. During this pandemic, there was considerable amount of health precautions from the staff to make customers feel safe and welcome.
Ordered takeout recently and loved the food and the service at Kashima. Ive tried most sushi restaurants in Montreal, Kashima is one of the best.
My fav sushi joint in town
Probably the best take out sushi Ive ever had Edit: Fair is fair, I stand by my statement as one of the best tasting take out sushi however I have to change my rating as customer service is seriously lacking. I really was going to make this place my weekly sushi spot but went there for a second time, ordered over $50 dollars worth of sushi and when I went to pick up my order, I asked if I could get some spicy mayo. The manager then seemed to ask the employee that I was about to pay, to write up a new receipt to charge me an extra dollar for the spicy mayo... Its not about the $1 (I was going to leave a tip worth more than that) but I found it pretty cheap and bad customer service. Will think again before visiting.
After over 10 years of eating at Kashima I remain impressed by the ingredient freshness and consistency in their quality. Keep up the good work!
I had ordered some takeout recently and honestly the sushi wasn t that special. Maybe I had high expectations from all the good reviews, but for the price I payed, I really wasn t impressed.
No service. Got there. Waited 15 minutes. No water / no drink order. No wait staff because they were busy handling phone orders. We left. Food is ok but not worth the lousy service experience.
I have been dining at this restaurant once a week for 6 months! The food is delicious, the fish are fresh and of good quality and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend the sashimi. A great discovery!
One of the best sushi restaurants in Montreal. I have become very demanding now that I have tasted their sushi and sashimi.
Clean and quiet restaurant . Good quality food and nice staff... and best part you don t need to worry about reservations or planning ahead...
Amazingly fresh and delicious sushi for the price!
The best Japanese restaurant ever, especially nice environment and 5 stars Japanese chef!
This place was recommended and I m happy it was. The food is fresh and the variety of flavours is great. Presentation is not bad. But overall this is really great value.
Best sushi restaurant in Montreal! The sushi is excellent, in addition to being reasonably priced! Always fresh and quality.
Great service. Food is consistently good.
Super good food. long live Japan!
Great owners and staff. Lunch time specials are at a great price and the food is delicious. A must in Westmount.
Great sushi place. Fast service and the sushi was awesome. We had the Titanic. A giant boat of sushi. There was so much we could not finish it.
This place offers impeccable service accompanied by exceptional quality of sushi and different Japanese dishes. Prices remain affordable.
Great for the mouth!
Great food and atmosphere
Love the sushi and reasonable
Service and food is always great! Price is very reasonable for the quality and quantity
Had the chicken teriyaki and the chicken was like rubber, sushi was average at best.
Fried chicken was great, sushi and grilled eel Don was just so so.
Great place for sushi.
really good food (& sake!)
Good quality food and good prices. Service is hit and miss.
Its very delicious
Nice place, nice ambiance and good customer service.
Best sushi in town
Our favorite family restaurant!
Better than ever. Everything was great large portions and very fresh. A vit pricey
Lots of choices, great sushi and fun bento boxes.
Very Good Food
Excellent sushi, quiet and cosy place ... Highly recommend
Nice little restaurant where you can find delicious Sushi at a reasonable price. Nice ambiance.
This place has unexpectedly good prices for very tasty and very well prepared sushi and other Japanese food. My only wish is that they would open for more hours during the week - Id certainly come more often if they did.
Always very fresh and excellent service whether in Resto or delivery.
Solid, basic Japanese fare. Nothing spectacular but satisfying.
recommend their sushi pizza. soooo yummy.
Very good food. I especially liked the fried calamaris. The sushis and sashimis from the Titanic dinner for 2 were also pretty good. The service was excellent. The prices were very fair, better than I expected.
Excellent food. you quickly become an avid subscriber
Excellent and fresh sushi! The waiter was extraordinary and gave us good tips. We had to wait to get a table, but it was worth it 100%!!!
Attentive service, a bit long maybe because of Saturday evening. Good quality of food, a bit expensive.
In my opinion probably the best quality-to-price ratio youll find in ndg/westmount. The sushi is consistently excellent, both in terms of freshness of the fish and the flavour of the rice. Other dishes that Ive had also excellent.
Fresh and fabulous
Our go to for sushi delivery in Westmount. Fish portions are generous and I absolutely adore their sushi imperial roll. Pretty punctual delivery too and excellent management.
We went to Kashima last Tuesday for a little celebration. Everything was just perfect! The fish is very fresh, with beautiful presentation! Beef sashimi is incredibly tasty! We got parking free on Greene avenue as well. We will definitely come back!
The food was good, and the mood perfect for a work lunch. I would definitely recommend.
This used to be a great restaurant. Excellent sushi. Just went last night. It seems that there are new owners. Its obvious that the place is going down hill fast. Saturday night in prime time, and the place was empty. The sushi was third rate !! Ive even had better from the grocery store. Avoid this place at all costs !!!!!
Stunning
Had fabulous sushi at Kashima tonight. I dont know why Ive never heard of them before but theyre a permanent add to my list now. Titanic: 30 pieces sushi sashimi maki combo for 58$ with soup salad and tempura . They did not cheap out on fish portions (I never felt that shrimp or tamago should be in my nigiri counts. its not 6 nigiris for me if 3 of them is boiled shrimp, fake crab and omelette. no). Their kamikaze makis clearly had a piece of salmon with tempura mix and not chopped salmon and tempura mix to hide how much salmon there actually is. Sushi was melt in your mouth and just enough give - definitely fresh. Just all around fresh fish with great price. Friendly service too! ( I not a fan of the salad though. but miso soup was good with mushroom, real seaweed and tofu)
Good sushis! Bon service!
Appreciate Japanese Food? Then Stay Away from this one. Entered here to try a new place with high hopes but were dashed! Despite good service from the waitresses, the prices were exceptionally high (who would pay $10 for a bottle of Kirin beer?). The food was bland, the sushi so-so but the worst and most offensive move they did: They substituted Thai rice for Japanese short grain, sticky rice in the bento boxes. Given the importance of rice in the Japanese culture, this was an unforgivable cultural faux pas! If I had a different personality, I would have demanded to be comped for that portion of the meal. Im in no way saying that Thai rice is bad. But this is something you do NOT do. Its like if you went to your favorite Italian restaurant and asked for fettuccine and they served it instead with udon noodles! So if you really like Japanese food, or want to learn what and how Japanese food tasted likes, stay away from this one and go to Imadake on St Catherines (a couple of blocks away).
Really nice service, good and fresh sushi
Authentic sushi , very delicious and service is good
I wonder what all the 4-5 star ratings people are smoking, or are these fake reviews posted by the restaurant. This has to be almost the worst Japanese (term used loosely) food weve had in Montreal. Tasteless Tempura, horrible Agedashi Tofu for starters. Miso soup too salty and dont get me started on the sushi the only two pieces that were ok was the Unagi and Tamago. The maki rolls are for the modt part bland and tasteless, the rice while ok not Japanese. Considering where this restaurant is located they need a serious dose of Restaurant Rescue. Do the owners taste their own food? not likely, To top off this delectable feast very pricey. The only thing vaguely Japanese was the Kirin Beer. This is another typical Fake Montreal Japanese restaurant stay away.
Want sushi that melts in your mouth? Try Kashima! The quality of their dishes is unparalleled. Kashima is my favourite sushi restaurant in Montreal. Hands down.
wow!!! hot to go back.
Wow, superb restaurant. The quality of the food is exceptional, everything is tasty, the staff are so friendly and the restaurant is impeccable. I recommend it without hesitation
28 seconds ago Average at best! Did not have a good experience at all. For appetizers, we ordered the aged fried tofu, vegetable tempura and chicken skewers for appetizers. The first two were average but the chicken skewers came out raw! A culinary basic I would not expect from any restaurant . Had it sent back to the kitchen and they told us they were going to grill new skewers (Guess what? They re-heated the same skewer we sent back in the microwave and it felt like we were chewing on warm rubber). For the main dish, we ordered the titanic, a 30 piece variety of sushi/maki/sashimi. Very mediocre again, do not expect very fresh Sushi/Maki or sticky rice ( All you can eat quality at best). For the price we payed and the good reviews, was expecting much more...much to be desired.
My favourite sushi restaurant in Montreal. The service is rapid, the staff cordial and attentive, and the food fantastic. Great value, too. Everything is made fresh. The decor is very nice. Dont miss out! Just opposite Westmount Squares Greene Ave exit.
Excellent staff, very good selection, atmosphere is tranquil and serene. Food is very good and excellently executed. Please do not tell anyone, I want it to be our little secret. Thank Mila for taking me here, loved it!
