14 Knightstone Rd, Weston-super-Mare BS23 2AN, United Kingdom
The Old Thatched Cottage dates right back to 1774, but with a complete refurbishment in 2019, it's far from ''olde-world'. As a proudly independent, family-run restaurant, we bring together over 50 years of expertise and the very freshest ingredients around to create a first-rate, affordable dining experience in Weston-super-Mare. Our menus are refreshingly honest, simple and uncomplicated; we serve brilliant steaks and top-notch seafood and our daily specials are second-to-none. We’ve got a great selection of wines and our bar is stocked with locally-sourced ales, continental beers and small batch spirits. The restaurant itself offers the perfect mix of old and new… come along and see for yourself!
I ate here last evening 15th December The food was amazing, one of my favourite restaurants. It did not disappoint. The rib eye steak was really good and the prawns to start equally moreish. As a chef I observed the food going to other tables, you can see the care and attention in the dishes that came out. Presentation is my big thing and as I said it delivered in every way. So very well done to all.
Today, had the best experiences for my partner's birthday. The restaurant accommodated 13 of us with slick service from a pre-ordered menu choices The food was magnificent! The service was second to none... going the extra mile with a birthday brownie!! All of the staff could not have been more accommodating with excellent attention to our personal needs. Well Done The Old Thatched Cottage.... HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
We had a lovely Sunday dinner here for my Daughter's birthday. We all had a 3 course meal and all the food that came out was lovely. The service was really good and they were all friendly.
Nice place with views of the beech. Food was an amazing and staff very friendly. A huge plus are the fire pit tables and a huge plus on cooler nights. We will certainly pass by again in the future.
Delicious food. Great service. Lovely place. Will definitely return
Very lovely meals good portions. Owned by Greek cooks boy they are good cooks. Music was too loud for eating and rock music for a Sunday evening. I did ask them to turn it down.
Went for an early evening stroll up Weston's prom, and stopped at the old thatched cottage for a meal. My partner had chicken skewers with the greek salad... Whilst I had the good old kleftico lamb shank . Food was lovely however the service was a little slow, I can only put this down to the amount of people there on a lovely evening. We had a lovely view of the promenade and some nice ciders. We will return... Special mention to the salt seller... That was probably made from part of robocops helmet.
Amazing experience! The grilled halloumi was delicious and the salad accompanying it was seasoned perfectly. The turkey Sunday roast was tender, juicy and there was a lot of meat, unlike many other places where they only give you a slice or two. The potatoes were crispy and soft on the inside. Beautiful location on the Weston promenade. Friendly waitresses! Will definitely be back!
Great food and a lovely, friendly atmosphere
Delicious greek food, great attentive service. We sat outside at one of the fire pit tables and the atmosphere was amazing, really warm and cosy. Would highly reccomend and will be back. Parking: There is a council owned car park down the road. Download the MiPermit app before you go.
Been coming here for over 20 years, never had a bad experience always good food and value for money
Been here twice now and not been let down either time. The food is incredible and the service is top drawer. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone
Nice place
Music too loud. Very li.ited dessert menu. No hot desserts.
As always excellent! Our favourite place, great for kids!
Very good service polite and very efficient. Food excellent....very busy at 6 on a friday evening...says it all. Afaristi ...Maria and team.
Very nice being able to sit outside in the cold with the table fire burning, was very cosy. Out of my price range though £75 for three people and I only had chips and garlic bread. Food
love this place fantastic Sunday lunch so well cooked full of flavour
Had a lovely birthday meal with my dad, the food was very nice and very reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly and attentive though I did have to ask for a different glass as my first was dirty. Would definitely recommend the Sunday lunch and I will return
Awful slow service
Perfect formula to a winning place
Had poor experience last night with a 2 hour long meal with long waits between courses ,loud music and cold food. When spoken to , waitress replied well it is Friday and we have a party and were short staffed no attempt at apologising , a very poor standard and so disappointing. Not the standard we expected
Shocking attitude from the blond working the bar. Obviously loves her job
Terrible service, complete lack of attention. Waitress was very moody. Also, kid on next table vomited, no one cleaned it up, just left it. I question the hygiene in this restaurant. Will not being coming back.
Very busy Sunday, wanted a table just for a drink. Ended up 4 adults and 2 children squashed around a small round table. While there were other tables available... wouldnt rush back, as felt in the way.
Food was not a great standard and portion size small for the relatively high prices charged (prices compared to the area)
Had the Sunday Roast sharing platter really lovely and quick service. Well worth a visit make sure you are hungry though.
Fantastic place
Booked the Thatched Cottage for a party of 13 for my partners birthday. It was a surprise meal and honestly I was really disappointed. The food was lovely do not get me wrong. However the staff attitude and treatment we received was really poor. Now I understand it was a group with one woman and 12 men, however they are all respectable and did not cause any issues. And might I add the private party was all men. As well as the general set up for the meal being really poor and ill thought through. The tables were squished in the corner and I myself was wedged up agaisnt the window and we had to climb over one another to get in and out. The resturant was empty so they could have easily given more room. We were forced into having our food brought out, it was a 3 course meal and without even having all our drinks delivered they told us they were going to bring our starters out. I had discussed and agreed with them that the birthday boy would order on the day. They forgot about him. We had to tell them that he needed to order which was really poor. We were rushed through our meal and the private party next door definitely got better attention, service and quality of experience. Although I understand, having worked in hospitality myself, that It can be difficult to keep on top when you have large groups in. However I do not think it is acceptable to favor one party over the other. And show a lack of attention to one group and to then try and get them through their meal is really poor. Considering our bill was nearly £700 and we werent drinking I think it was rather disappointing how it was handled. Would go again as a small meal but would definitely not book a party here again.
Sunday roast best I ever had, steak were amazing, can t eat anywhere else the food here is something special thank you to all the staff your the best
Great food, mainly Greek.
We had excellent traditional fish and chips with a very nice Chenin-Blanc.
A superb greeting followed by great service and easy and generous food. Whats not to like about this 5* located eatery ?
Food was nice.
Excellent place for food and service Wheelchair accessibility: Plenty of space and space if toilet needed Food : 5/5 |
Didnt have food, but it looked lovely. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere especially sat by the fires. Food
Absolutely splendid food and atmosphere, had a lovely couple of hours
Very nice place to relax and have a drink/food while watching the sunset.
Didnt book, but a table for 6 was available. Really lovely staff. Food did take some time to get to our table, but its all freshly cooked.
The member of staff who served us was very rude very disappointed with the food
This place was beautiful and lovely food .we had our meal outside the service was good .we tried all sorts on the menu .I would have scored five but some little niggles on wrong food but it got sorted.lovely place for a meal.toilets spotless too
Lovely presented restaurant with very friendly staff and the food wad very good. Recommend the restaurant. Vegetarian options: Eggs and vegetables was very good and well presented. Kid-friendliness: Children were welcomed.
If you want to have a great meal-just pop in ! Amazing view! I fell in love with their menu. The best thing is that even it s raining ,you can enjoy your meal outside, and it s warm and peaceful!
Food was very good, staff friendly but the only thing that annoyed me a bit was the fact that Guinness is not served in Guinness glasses and both times was served in warm glasses therefore making the drink warm
Been a few times and its always lovely food and good staff.
Always great
We went to this beautiful place for our friends 21st wedding anniversary celebration meal , there was 6 of us in total. The service was amazing . All staff were very accommodating and friendly, the food was amazing , I had a prawn cocktail to start and then had a grilled chicken salad, the food was beautifully made and presented beautifully. The drinks menu was very good price wise and the price of the food matched the quality of the food. Very enjoyable experience. Well worth a visit.
Popped in for a quick drink. Nice locate, friendly staff, although under pressure, drinks good as is the location
Food absolutely fantastic. Very tasty, plenty of a wonderful roast lunch. Staff friendly and helpful. Very noisy in a small side room, but that was the rowdy customers, otherwise the venue is lovely, clean and comfortable. Highly recommended. Will definitely rebook soon.
Lovely... Sat watching the sea having drinks.. after our show.at the playhouse
We managed to find a wonderful bar/restaurant that serves the best Sunday roast ever. I would recommend the sharing platter. Everything tasted divine.Everything was homemade including the mint sauce .l would also like to add that Julia , our host was also wonderful . She was attentive, polite and went out of her way to make our visit a memorable one. Can t rate this place more. If you are in Weston super mare get down here. Fire pits outside too if the weather isn t favourable
Great fish and chips!!! Dog friendly
Went for Birthday meal. Steak. Fillet. 32 quid . Over cooked. Not the only one of the night saying steaks were over done. Anyhoo over all very good apart from steaks. Learn to cook your steaks
Had the most fantastic afternoon, food was amazing and staff was very nice and friendly, manager was absolutely amazing when my friends boy hurt himself and bumped his head she went out of her way to make sure he was alright and even took him to buy an ice cream and a ball from the shop. Thankyou
A long standing and family run restaurant right on the sea front. A spot-on lunch experience with a choice of outdoor sunny dining or a more sheltered and quieter experience inside with Immaculate bathroom facilities. A daily non alcoholic cocktail or draught lager and a comprehensive starter, main and dessert menu. All served by fast and friendly staff. Frequent restaurant patrons, we honestly couldnt fault it. Try the especially delicious chicken liver pate followed by lamb shank. Youll be hard pushed to eat the full 3 course Monte. Highly recommended by frequent foodies. Cant wait for an evening meal opportunity.
Excellent food that came quickly to the table. The staff was very friendly and kind so we really enjoyed our dinner. Parking: Parking was a bit difficult to find. We drove past the restaurant and found some free spots on the street, but not too many. There is a paid parking lot nearby, but max height for cars was 2m so our van could not fit.
Loved it.
A hidden gem in Weston-super-Mare, great drinks amazing outdoor area
We had a lovely meal here for a friends birthday. The fire pit was definitely appreciated in the evening.
My husband and I went here after reccomendation. Staff were very pleasent. Husband loved his fish and chips ( he loves haddock) but I had the kleftiko, unfortunately I was a little disappointed. The lamb itsself was very tender, the veg was lovely, but the kleftiko lacked in flavour.,It couldnt be compared to the local Greek restaurant in the town which was a shame.
Unfortunately I had bad food poisoning after having the lamb dish, left me unwell for days. I know it was the lamb, as my dog was also unwell with diarrhoea and I fed him the lamb too.
Very good food. But pricy though. Place had no atmosphere at all. Lovely clean loo.
Only had ciders and an expresso, which were great. Very dog friendly, we were given treats for the table.
Food was excellent!
Food were great but the service wasn t good waitress were grumpy face
Friendly staff. We sat outside and they lit the fire pit things for us. People watching! :)
Lovely food, well cooked and good service. Would recommend. Food
Best steak I have had for a long time!!
Good food and service. We visited on a Wednesday evening, so it was quite hence 4 for atmosphere. Enjoyed the evening sunshine and then flame heaters once we were in shade Food
awesome food here folks. I had a steak and it was cooked perfectly. I will certainly be going here again
Excellent food and service!
Verry nice place to visit and to have a drink with friends.
Went to the restaurant about 9 years ago. Excellent food, customer service, and atmosphere. Went again, and nothing has changed. Excellent food, customer service, and atmosphere. Food : 5/5
The team were really helpful. The service and food were excellent. Thank you very much for looking after our large group of 16
Loved this place. We sat outside, warmed by the fire pit on our table and had great food. The staff were lovely, really friendly. We had a view of a stunning sunset and couldn t have asked for a better evening.
Nice place on the sea front. We enjoyed it
It was a hot sunny, sunday, despite this the staff were fully attentive to our needs. The portions were excellent, definitely worth the money. Absolutely will recommend to others Vegetarian options: We were there on a Sunday, so there was a limited (but appropriately so) Sunday dinner menu. But I would say on balance there was an equal number of vegetarian options to not. Vegan options would be limited though. Kid-friendliness: Our 2 year old, was being just that; a two year old. We tried to tidy up after him, but the staff were more than happy to help. The children were spoken to, rather than spoken at. Which is brilliant :) The childrens menu was more than suitable for an average child. Highchairs were easily available Wheelchair accessibility: We didnt have a wheelchair, but did have our beach trolley for the children to sit in. The garden is easily accessible. But it is cobbled slightly, so could be bumpy. The toilets and inside, I believe were down a few steps. But Im sure staff would help if needed. The outside has heaters and cover in places, so a booking would ensure that these tables are available. But it was not packed, and so these areas could be available if you just drop in!
Really busy place and fair play to the staff, they work really hard to serve everyone and with a smile on their face. Food was lovely. Its a hidden gem. Walking past youd just think its a gastro pub but its much more. Highly recommended
Had cocktails and scone. Scone was a little dry and not advettised as a fruit scone. The cocktail was amazing. Waitress was lovely, prompt, responsive, and helpful
A really nice place to have a meal. Can not fault it.
Lovely t-bone steak Great service Food
Food was superb! Great atmosphere and good service too. Would highly recommend.
Popped in for food after a blustery dog walk on the beach. Very warm welcome and excellent fish and chip meal. Will definitely be returning when we visit Weston again. Kid-friendliness: Good kids menu with activities on.
A good value Sunday roast sharing board with mixed of three local meat and veggies. Love the lamb leg and the roasted cheese cauliflower and parsnips!! Nice outdoor sitting area with fire pit , enjoy my cider and food in front of seaside . What s a great way to spend my Sunday ! Their service is good ! Although many clients on the day , but the waitress is very efficient and always check if we are good .
I recently visited with high hopes, but unfortunately, my experience fell far short of expectations. My experience was deeply disappointing and tainted by the presence of racism. Until significant changes are made, I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to others. Considering the subpar quality of the food, the prices were unjustifiably high. The portions were small, and the overall dining experience did not justify the expense.
First visit today, friendly cheerful staff, slightly faded decor with traditional furnishings, tasty Mediterranean menu well presented, highly recommend
Late lunch on a bank holiday, without a booking and this gem of a place exceeded our expectations. Food is utterly delicious!
Glad to find a decent lunch! Food was good, nice mix of dishes on the menu. No-ones fault but I was sat in a draft - didnt complain at the time as restaurant was full and staff obviously busy. I had the bouillabaisse and it was well stocked with seafood, although I had to ask for a finger bowl. Will return.
Absolutely amazing out front with fires on the table. Really nice place.
Excellent fish and chips, not at all greasy, large portion and great service
We enjoyed our steaks just how we like them, I dont have them very often. Also had bottle of rosè with a starter and ice cream to finish.
Good food, nice locale by the beach. Staff were fast and attentive. Will be back in future
Such a lovely time last night - both had steak. Really delicious, cooked to perfection! Really lovely cocktails and wine too. Baileys cheesecake was a big hit! The food came really quickly and the staff were lovely! Thank you so much Andie and team for a very special meal out!
Beautiful spot for sitting outside along the promenade. Quiet atmosphere with fires on the table to keep warm. Quick service, nice place to dine alone or with friends.
Had a lovely meal on a recent visit to Weston super Mare.
This place is amazing. Was there a couple weeks ago, the food was amazing! Staff were great too and sitting by the fire outside, bonus!
Had a fantastic Mother s Day lunch today, recommend highly
We celebrated my daughters birthday with family, from start to finish the team were faultless the food was fantastic and the service was excellent would highly recommend
Brilliant food, lovely staff very friendly and polite, and nothing to much trouble. Will definitely be going back
Went there with a dining club, service was excellent as was the food. I had beetroot starter and then roast chicken and then sticky toffee pudding lovely Food
Food was amazing, service was amazing. Loved the fire pits outside. Would recommend
We both had really great meals, starters plus mains, wonderfully cooked and served by attentive staff who were polite and considerate. Service was swift. Great portions so we could not fit in a dessert. We will go back and try other dishes on their excellent menu. Great value, thanks to all of the staff. Parking: 2 minutes walk from the restaurant.
Great food and friendly service. Kept warm outside by the fire pits on the tables great idea.Thankyou.
Very good food, plenty of it and very appetising. Pleasant surroundings and although very busy it was very good service. Thanks
Lovely meal, friendly atmosphere, attentive staff, definitely recommended.
Absolutely delicious food and ace service. Would definitely recommend!!
Had friends visiting from Saxony, they wanted a good steak and we got one. Never been here before but will return, highly recommended
Went for lunch with my husband. Food excellent.
Celebrated Dad & step mums wedding here after a registry office wedding. Very lovely little restaurant to celebrate in. Food was fantastic and well cooked. Lots of options for all to choose from. Very quick at serving but not too quick between meals (meaning you could let your previous course go down nicely, ready for the next course) didnt feel rushed to eat and go! Plus whilst all but the bride and groom of the party left, whilst they were waiting for their taxi, got a free drink on the house! Would definitely return here for a party/special event or even an evening meal
Had a lovely meal here steak was very good a nice pleasant experience overall for us a good place
Out for a catch up with friends meal - a really great night. Menu choices were good and the quality was excellent. Particularly good though was the service - it was a very cold quiet Monday night, but they were very attentive and did not rush us at all.
We just had a lovely brunch with a family at The Old Thatched Cottage. A very cosy atmosphere at the fireplace, super delicious food (especially king prawns!), and our host Julia exceptionally welcoming, friendly and professional advising on our choices Thank you so much for having us, well be definitely back Vegetarian options: Had olives and dipps Kid-friendliness: Kids enjoyed colouring sheets Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access to the outside tables
Were here tonight with family over from Ireland, its there second time visiting westonsupermare in a month and second time eating at The Thatched Cottage, and they cant fault the meal , delishes food 10/10 , ..cant wait to go back
The food was delicious the atmosphere great and we didnt have to wait around before ordering even though they were busy. The bar staff were lovely, very friendly. My only negative was that I thought it was a little over priced although my companions didnt agree Dietary restrictions: they asked us straight away if we had any restrictions
I ve come from London on the way to Newquay and was hoping for an amazing roast dinner and I was not disappointed, from the moment I made a phone call to reserving the table, sitting outside by the fire to having a lovely lunch EVERYTHING was welcoming, delicious and lovely. I can t fault it in anyway. A Big thank you Julia,Janis, deimante, gabi,Tati and Anna you re all amazing
Rude staff. Don t cater for disability s!
Very polite and helpful staff. Meal served promptly. Food very enjoyable.
Awesome venue, lovely staff and the food is fantabulous
A lovely setting for a chilled evening
We had a couple of different dishes both were very good.
Lovely meal come here a lot
Excellent food fantastic service and very reasonably priced. Lovely surroundings beautifully decorated with stunning views. We had to Irish coffees to that tasted amazing.. would highly recommend.
Went with my mom and brother for a night out on final evening of our holiday (we all had steak) we sat outside by the fire which was lovely 10/10 would recommend was excited by time we called and booked the table Lovely food Lovely staff Lovely atmosphere Helpful staff
Very expensive
Really nice meal in a lovely location good prices
Lovely lunch outside
We visit this restaurant twice whilst on holiday, and wasnt disappointed one bit. First time we sat outside relaxing watching the world go by near the firepits, ordered pork chop roast potatoes and hallomi pitta greek salad. Inside the second time due to a heavy downpour, ordered the traditional fish and chip. The restaurant is tastefully done plenty of room in between tables, its spotlessly clean, the toilets were immaculate. Staff are friendly and attentive checking everything is okay with the meal that was delicious on both occasions. Plus they make a great aperol spritz We would highly recommend this restaurant cant fault it one bit it ticks all the boxes .
Visiting Weston for a few hours, on our way home from Cornwall. Found this restaurant on sea front. Fab food, lovely outside eating area. Would say had been recently refurbished, done a great job.
The food was excellent, as was the service. But this is not cheap. Highly recommended
Only stopped fo a quick drink .
The only place I go, when I am not cooking
Superb Sunday lunch offer , beef , lamb and turkey. It wasnt faultless but would return . The service was excellent and very friendly. The restaurant was very clean and tidy. You would struggle to find a better restaurant on WsM beach road.
Quality food and service
Absolutely amazing I cannot fault a single thing.
Two steaks 2 cocktails 2 desserts lovely
Service was great. Welcoming friendly, steak cooked to perfection. Would go back if I lived in the area, but highly rate. Food
I went there with my friends. Waitress was very rude to us. She was quite unwelcoming and uninviting. We asked her to sit outside around the tables with fire in the middle. She said the outside zone is not open today and once we went out . there was people there sitting around the fire.
A lovely place. We had lunch of humus, olives and putta bread. Liked it so much we returned for supper. Great menu and great food. We sat outside and loved the gas heated coals. Our view was across the bay. Not the cheapest place on the seafront, but probably the best.
One of the best restaurants in weston. The food is outstanding and has a very nice holiday vibe sitting outside with the fire pits on.
Our first time here, great food ,great prices, service is good, very busy on a Friday night, but waiting is not long at all,all good at the Thatched Cottage,we Will be returning,we suggest you try it too
Chose the Old Thatched Cottage after some research due to Weston super Mare being around half way point on our journey to Cornwall. It was reasonably quiet due the time of day. Monday lunchtime. Beautiful old place, attentive staff and delicious food.
Very rude person serving us and very slow service altogether. Would not attend again
Food was cooked well - my understanding is good chefs
Friendly, clean, good service, our meals, you could not ask for better, very enjoyable
Great restaurant, great atmosphere. A perfect place for a family dinner or to meet friends for a beer
Lovely atmosphere very welcoming.
Located at 14 Knightstone Road near the Cabot Cove Hotel in a charming 18th century grade ll listed building (one of Weston super Mares oldest pieces of architecture). It oozes character which makes it the perfect setting for an independent business to operate from. Great service and wonderful views. Ill be back. Vegetarian options: Available. Parking: Plenty of spaces available at Melrose Car Park. Kid-friendliness: Family friendly.
Good food great staff excellent
Great place for great food, nice staff and a relaxing atmosphere.
It was an amazing evening. The food was out of this world. Brilliant service and the coal fires outside were great for staying warm.
Lovely little pub. Great outdoor area with fires
Best t-bone steak Ive ever had, great place to eat, staff were brilliant,
They squeezed us in as they were very busy but didnt rush us and the steak was superb.
Went for dinner, with husband, daughter and son-in-law. Were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. Food was delicious, service was ok. Will hope to go back soon.
I can t understand the good reviews of the fish and chips: it was the worst I ve had for ages. It looked like it was pre-made frozen. The veggie nonut roast was greasy and we felt we were eating for food from 20 years ago. Not cheap either.
Lovely staff. The food and environment were equally as good. Nice and cosy Food
The best place in weston for lunch and dinner . Great venue and super staff and delicious food served .
The food was amazing and the service was within a good time, food was piping hot. Waiters and waitresses were very pleasant and welcoming. We would definitely go back.
Amazing time, Great food and service
Beautiful, tasty meal... service great and presentation excellent. Keep up the great work... Vegetarian options: Didnt read....
It was one of the best fine dining experiences I had. The were out of this World.
