The Appleseed Modern Diner in Westville Road

Was disappointed. Have been here several times always enjoyed the food. This visit however the side veggies were frozen peas and carrots from a bag. I would prefer more coleslaw and no frozen veggies.

The food was great, but the service wasn t so great. My father and grandmother asked for a glass of water with their order and never got it. When a random server came over she asked how things were and my father asked for a water again. I asked too (for my grandma). She came back with only one water and left immediately. No one really checked on us only that one time. When we were done and just chatting (after our long journey) while sipping on our drinks, the servers kept coming over and hounding us asking if we needed anything else. Almost like they were shooing us out. We couldn t enjoy our drinks and just left. I kept over hearing the servers talk about certain costumers in a judging way too. The atmosphere just didn t feel like a friendly one.

Updated 4 nov 2024 Had tried two other places that website said were open but they were closed. So I came back into town and called here first and they were open. I ve always enjoyed it here and tonight was not disappointed. I was last one there bur was treated as first. Thanks This was my second time as I m not from here but my sister too me for supper today. She had fish and chips and I had breakfast. All was done to perfection. I m fussy about my eggs and they were done greatest. I don t know how much was spent we both had sundaes. Our server was Cassie D table # 18 . At 5:20. I will certainly be back

The Reuben was hands down the best sandwich i ve ever had. The drive from antigonish was totally worth it. I will 100 percent be driving out just to get it again.

The server was very personable, friendly and helpful. Made us feel very welcome!

I had the donair grilled cheese which was an amazing combination of a classic donair mixed with a grilled cheese made on white bread from a local bakery. The chocolate milkshake was also amazing.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I ordered a milk shake and hot chicken sandwich. The gravy was quite good and the mashed potatoes tasted real (instead of how they can sometimes taste boxed as these types of places). The service was quick and friendly.

Place was clean, and staff were great. Food, though, was pretty lackluster. The menu options must have been slashed pretty bad, as it was very small and things previous reviews show are no longer available. Almost everything comes with fries, which are made in house and were very soggy. Burger was okay, but the sauce wasnt very good. Convenient for where its located if youre just passing through, but thats about it. Kid-friendliness: Right next door to the Arcade. Kid menu options were better than the adult one. Wheelchair accessibility: Everything is ground level, so no need to go up or down any ramps. Doors are automatic. Only has booths, so youll be out in the aisle if you cant leave your chair.

The Ruben sandwich was amazing, and so was the roasted carrot and garlic soup.

Very clean and vibranet. Our server Anna was super friendly, helpful and checked on us several times to make sure everything was good. The Reuben sandwich was huge and very delicous. The spinach and beet salad was also delicous and very large. I highly recommend this place.

was looking forward to Homemade French Fries, but didnt expect shoe string homemade french fries. The Atmosphere was great, the service was good, I wanted to tell the waitress that the coffee cream curdled when put into my coffee but she didnt come back until it was time to pay the bill. We went we saw, we ate and now we know....

Had the buffalo chicken wrap with fries and the amount of fries was insane! The wrap was only so-so, not enough buffalo sauce to differentiate it from a regular chicken wrap. But the portion size made it worth the price. Chocolate milkshake for a classic diner beverage Vibe was wonderful, had a great time. Our waitress was friendly and on top of her game. Thanks so much, sure to be back!

One of the best, freshest, tastiest clubhouse sandwiches I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy. That really hit the spot on our last roadtrip, thanks to the folks at the Farmers Market who recommended the Appleseed Diner!

It was a good meal, I had the signature Appleseed burger. Quite...Yummy! We will be back! We have been back several times now, we have had many things off of the menu, all are good, try it out! Parking: lots of parking around the building. Kid-friendliness: It has some very large booths, great for a big family! ... or sports team! Wheelchair accessibility: Fairly flat parking to front door, and into building. curb to sidewalk.

This restaurant has amazing food and the portions are huge. The one downside was all the young children running around being unattended to. There is an arcade next to the restaurant and lots and lots of kids. I like kids but not when they are hanging off the back of my seat and screaming in my ear while my wife and I are trying to talk and enjoy our meal.

My go to place is New Glasgow. Great food and top notch service.

Went for dinner on a Monday night. It was not busy. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was clean. Our server Jamie was polite and attentive. The food was amazing! Big portions, well cooked and plated with care. I definitely recommend eating here. The cost was very reasonable and the quality was top notch!

Was really surprise by the size of the menu and the taste of the food

Service was quite slow - watched tables being serviced by other waitresses get service and even some received there food while we waited quite a while before even being serviced. Our waitress didn t come by and check how our meal was until we were finished. We even had to ask another waitress to get us water as our waitress never came back. Normally service is amazing, but today it was off. Now that being said my food was amazing as always!!

Loved this restaurant! Three of us dined there. One was vegan, and one was gluten-free. The wait staff was very knowledgeable about these specifics. The food was YUMMY! Dietary restrictions: Vegan and gluten-free free were well accommodated.

I can t say Thank you enough to the wonderful staff at this restaurant. We have a very ill family member in a wheel chair who got a long awaited short pass to leave the hospital to meet her great grand daughter for the first time. A call to Apple Seed with no notice got a friendly helpful staff member. We needed handicap parking, wheel chair access and room to seat 8. Absolutely no problem was the reply. Our seating was ready when we got there with a menu that more than met our expectations. Thank you so much for making this day possible. We will definitely be dining at your restaurant again soon. Parking: Located at the side of the building directly beside the sidewalk leading to the main entrance. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy wheel chair access through front entrance and aisles.

Enjoyed the food, the waitress seemed like she didnt enjoy her job. Her affect was flat, no smiling. I would go back though.

Excellent chicken in the sandwich

A smile goes a long way! Felt like our server was on a Mario-Kart when she was checking on orders, could barely see her on the way by she was going so fast and it wasn t busy! Had the fish cakes, felt like they could have had a little more crisp on both sides. My first negative review of a place but it should be mentioned so people have a great experience even if it is cloudy outside. I only tipped 15%. Hope she has a better day tomorrow

Loved their menu option, taste, and service. I ordered meatloaf with spinach beetroot salad (one can get fries or rice pilaf). I absolutely loved this balanced plate. My husband had a panfried haddock with rice pilaf and loved it as well. Will return for more. Highly recommended.

What I love about this place. Its large, friendly, comfortable and actually not heart attack prices compared to what most of the other greedy businesses are attacking the average person for. A person that perhaps wants to socialize and treat themselves and others to. Its refreshing to find places like this when were in such a negative time in this sad world today. I have been here a few times in the last year. The food has been consistently really good. The portions are large and not overpriced. The staff are always friendly and helpful with quick service and a big smile. Even tho there is a large arcade connected to the restaurant, you would never know it was there from the food side noise wise. The bathrooms are very clean and modern, very important to me. Best tartar sauce I have ever had hands down.

On the other hand, the portion of fries is generous. These are not frozen fries. The staff is courteous. Parking: Parking is in front of the restaurant. There are additional seats in the back.

I finally got on the road early enough such that by the time I hit New Glassgow it was still breakfast time. I looked for a diner on Google and found the apple seed modern diner. Quite the find. I dont think I would have found it without Google. Unfortunately, its a little hidden off the highway. I stopped in for breakfast. Tasty perfectly fried eggs. A delicious biscuit on the side. The potatoes arent too big. Crispy versus size ratio is nice and they have a little spice which makes me unique. Great food! Great prices. Unfortunately the Mrs. Pac-Man wasnt working but theres a whole arcade next door!

Ordered the BIG BREAKFAST. Menu says BIG Servings, its one piece of ham and a flat sausage round, smaller than a MacDonald Breakfast patty. The bacon was 2 slices of cold, hard bacon thats been sitting in a warming tray. Asked for better bacon, it was 3 slices this time of the same panned bacon, but heated up in the microwave. Was also tasteless. Coffee was super weak and thin, I thought it was tea. Tasted like a suggestion of coffee with milk and sugar. Did love the mugs. Restaurant was so cold that one staff member was wearing a hoodie while serving. Hash browns and eggs were good. Staff were nice. Also 50$+ for 2 breakfast, 2 drinks and tip.

Great local restaurant. We went on an exceptionally busy day (curling tournament next door at the YMCA) and the food was still fast and good, and the staff patient/kind. This is now among our favorite restaurants in New Glasgow, and it feels great to support local entrepreneurs who in turn purchase locally. Large portions, and reasonable prices. The chicken tenders and deep-fried pickles were great! The upgrade to Greek salad was a good choice.

Our food just wasnt that great. The service was decent but no check ins after we were given our food... there just wasnt anything that stood out about this place... table of 3 and we all agreed. The gravy was not good at all, although I saw many reviews of others who loved it, mine lacked any flavour. My veggies tasted like they just came out of the freezer, my sandwich was blah. I had the hamburger soup and that was pretty good. All of the fries at the table were over cooked. The servings were very generous in size. They were out of two desserts that we would have liked to try so we skipped dessert all together.

Went for breakfast, ordered just eggs and sausage, waitress brought my food eggs with bacon at potatoes, mentioned I wanted sausage, took my plate and brought back eggs only. I said Id wait for the sausage, when I finally got my food eggs were cold and the sausage was terrible.. Positive it had gone bad, meal came to 45 dollars two breakfast meal and I only had 2 eggs. Plus I got attitude from the waitress, (when it was her mistake) well never darken the doorstep of Apple Seed again

Just stopped in for an early dinner. The food was fantastic ( bigger portions than we re use too). The waitress and the other lady were extremely friendly ( I didn t catch their names). We will definitely stop in again when we re in town.

First time here today and WOW! I had a club sandwich and onion rings and it was so damn good. Best onion rings Ive ever had, hands down. Cant wait to try more stuff from here, Worth the drive from Antigonish just to get food here. Well done. Friendly and fast service as well!

Honestly this place is pretty good, although not the best. When I came here, we were seated then got a huge table full of food after that of course I was holding my milk shake and all of a sudden the entire table just collapsed on us, and all our food food was just everywhere! It was super embarrassing and I ve not been back since.

The donair grilled cheese was awesome. Lots of meat and very good flavor. Donair sauce was tasty. Fries were thin cut and good. Wife had the Thanksgiving on a bun and Tomato soup and loved it. Would definitely return!

Was visiting the area for summer holidays and was looking for a good fish n chips place! Checked out the reviews for Appleseed and decided to give it a try and it did not disappoint! Portions were very generous and pricing was great! Staff was very friendly and did not make us feel rushed at all as closing time was near. Great place!

Great service, truly family friendly. Awesome shakes and sundaes! Local drinks on tap, fresh bakery bread and buns. Great road trip stop. We stopped by for lunch after a weekend on the north store and stopped by the arcade next door which was a great time!

My grandchild had his birthday party here. There is a game center next door. The kids loved that, and all found something to eat in the diner. Poutine topped with donair was the choice of 3 of them. Vegetarian options: They were available. Kid-friendliness: They hosted parent and children quite well. Good waitress!

Breakfast was typical eggs, bacon, toast and home fries. All done well. We ordered some hollandaise to go with it. This was my 2nd attempt at their hollandaise sauce. Its awful. No taste whatsoever. I would avoid anything with hollandaise. The peanut butter pie, however is a definite show stopper!

The Appleseed never disapoints. Good food, I tried the chicken strips, nice booths, reasonable prices, great menu selections, clean washroom and friendly service. You cant ask for more than that.

Beyond our Expectations!!! We were travelling through the area and were craving a burger. My fiancé found the Appleseed Modern Diner online and we were intrigued by the menu. We were not disappointed!! She had the Appleseed Burger and I had the Peanut Butter Burger. Both were unbelievable, and they have possibly the best shoestring fries I ve ever had. Perfectly crisp, but not overdone. Service was very fast and friendly and the prices were certainly reasonable. We ll be back!!

Very disappointed and would not go back. I rarely write these but wanted to share my experience. Pan Fried haddock was cold and appeared to have been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time. The veggies were from a bag of frozen veggies. Took forever to get it as well. The corned beef hash was the worst I had ever tasted, there was tiny (I mean TINY) pieces of hard meat that I think they were selling as corned beef?!? It was basically potatoes with 2 eggs on top. Maybe it was an off day?! But if I had to use 1 word to describe it awful.

I had The Appleseed Reuben with fries. It was amazing. Very large serving with lots of delicious fries and the Reuben was perfect. Im getting hungry just thinking about it. We will definitely be back. Gave only four stars for atmosphere because we were the only ones there. I dont understand why this place isnt rocking it all day one.

Super tasty comfort food with friendly service in a cute, retro, diner. I had a local beer and a delicious peanut butter burger alongside a big pile of tasty fries. My wife had an old fashioned milkshake (with the extra in a metal cup) and she loved her burger too. There were lots of other things on the menu that we look forward to trying!

Out of the way diner but worth looking for. We were staying at hotel around the corner, so a great find. Food was so good and big portions, selection of food was good and they have lots of coffee choices like a fancy coffee shop. Highly recommend!! We will be back, want to try more on the menu. And the staff were the best!

Kayla was very efficient, attentive, and fast. Coffee came in very large mugs so you needed only one refill. Very clean and bright. Food was excellent and seating was comfortable.
