I was at Melanie Pringles to celebrate my birthday. Great food, great atmosphere and great price. They were very accommodating, allowing us to bring in a cake and providing utensils and plates for that. Great restaurant!

This was my 4th or 5th time in the last year or so having lunch with my good friend. We love it here. Its halfway between our homes and its a great place to meet and eat.

We stopped here with our kids for a lunch break en route to Toronto, and it was a fun 1950s diner with lots of character at each booth! There was a wide variety on the menu for both adults and kids, and the kids dessert came in a cute ice-cream truck! The Reuben sandwich was my fav item, with the Crispy Crunch milkshake to top things off.

Amazing place food was great but when it came to lacking stuff up the servers were top notch only place I have ever been to where they box it up for you very convenient when you have small children and all the staff are friendly and go above and beyond!! What a great place !!!had the full back ribs and they were excellent my wife for the grilled cheese she also said it was amazing Kid-friendliness: Video games for kids before dinner sat by the bar and it felt more like a restaurant than a bar mad it comfortable to be there with kids and not a bunch of drunks

It is not my typical place,but it is retro,but it was clean,my friend ordered she didnt like it,it is not anything wrong,she was not used to the way the beef wasnt brown,but the staff wanted constructive criticism, and she suggested another option,and we enjoyed it when in doubt just go with burger,coming over to us when we didnt eat was great customer service

The place looks great, the food is phenomenal and the servers are very nice!! My only complaint is that it always takes a while for our drink and food orders to be put in which makes it take even longer for the food to come out

UPDATED REVIEW NOV. 14, 2024 Wow! Am I glad I came back. What a difference. The food was very tasty, hot and plentiful. Ordered the bacon/cheese burger spring rolls...yummy! Piping hot served with chopped pickles and tomatoes and Chipotle mayo. Good sized portion, we shared and still brought some home. We then tried the Reuben (a favourite of mine). Delish. Sweet potato fries nice and crisp. My friend had the Buttermilk Chicken BLT and said it was very tasty, hot and the chicken... moist and crunchie. Our server (we didnt get his name. Dark hair in a low ponytail, around 2 pm). He was amazing, start to finish. From using ladies vs guys (much appreciated), to making suggestions for non spicy options, to his gentle sense of humour. Made our day. Well definitely be back! Work team building dinner. Pseudo late Christmas buffet of mashed potatoes (awful how to kill a potato) gravey that was colored flour and water, under cooked broccolini. The sweet potatoes were good as was the cranberry sauce...tho homemade?? To top it off it was cold even with chafing dishes. Deplorable. Dessert... well it was a small muffin that was supposed to be a rendition of stickie toffee pudding. Pudding? No way! Very sad meal. On a good note, our server was AMAZING and the drinks were great and a good price. Lord knows you needed a good drink after that food. I hope their regular menu is much better as this one certainly did not encourage me to ever want to come.

First trip to this city wanted to go here with our family and was asked to wait 45 mins with a baby then another 20 after that with several open tables who were 16 mins past the reservation Im not sure why those tables werent utilized and will not be back seems awfully disorganized and understaffed

We absolutely love our waitress Bonnie!!! Every time we come she is very friendly, funny and a blessing. Please request her when you are next here. The food FANTASTIC as always !!! Thank you Melanie Pringles for being the best place to host us ladies each year. Love you tons

Went with friends for an early birthday dinner. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Little weird that waiter brought debit machine but no receipt but we were in a hurry. Will be back.

This was my third time in this amazing restaurant. I decided to treat 2 friends to lunch and chose this location ad the place to be. I ordered soup and salad. The French onion soup was amazing with taste and so much cheese in rhe soup. The salad was fresh and so tasty. My guests also ordered the soup salad except they wanted more bread. They each ordered one of the two different daily soups with o e having the cease and the other having the house salad with house dressing. They both told me what a wonderful lunch they had. I have had the beef dip in the past and can tell you they know what they are doing. The beef dip was full of flavour and the roast beef was moist and full of flavour. The club sandwich was amazing filled with natural ingredients. This restaurant is truly a gem.

Came here for dinner Tuesday Sept 24th around 645pm, we were seated immediately. The vibe of this restaurant is definitely one that will take you back in time, Elvis poster, juke boxes, real diner style which I thoroughly enjoyed! Food service has much to be desired, pack in for LONG wait times. But I will say, the food is worth it. Granted the establishment is quite busy with patrons coming and going constantly. We had an unfortunate mishap, when we ordered the mozzarella sticks and found some hair attached to then batter. Sadly I had to go find my waitress as I said they were busy and wait staff do spend a lot of time chatting with the regular patrons. Thankfully she got another order in right away, I would say food took around 45 mins to come from ordering it to when we got it. Dinner was delicious, would be open to trying again- I just think since they re cranking out food something things like hair in this case definitely fall through the cracks. All in all, it was a decent experience, folks here seem genuine and that s not always easy to find. Tuesday special was buy 2 drink, and buy one get one half entree s.

Very unique, fun atmosphere. Amazing friendly staff, good food. Its nice to support a family business like this too, and they make you feel at home.

I love this place, the menu is pretty diverse and most items are pretty tasty. The servers are all friendly and like like the aesthetic.

Food is not the greatest for the price

Though of checking out this place after reading good reviews. We tried Rueben sandwich and smash burger. Also took a cocktail our server suggested. Service and the vibe is good. Smash burger was yum and the sandwich was just OK. Cocktail was pretty underwhelming and not worth the price. We paid 85$ for just this much of food and tip. Which was expensive. Not going back.

4 of us had dinner. All meals were great. The service was outstanding.

It feels like I was transported back to the 70s with atmosphere in this diner. The food was reasonably priced and portioned. It is definitely a place I would go back to again if I wanted to relive the 70s.

My hubby and I had dinner here a weeks ago. Our server was not welcoming at all and very unprofessional. She kept wiping her nose which was a turn off and it seemed like she was high on some sort of drug. If you cant smile and be a nice person maybe youre in the wrong industry. As an appetizer we had nachos, they werent overcooked and lacked toppings. He had the Philly sandwich and it was mediocre and the bun was hard 1/5. I had the Buttermilk chicken BLT and it was ok but I found the chicken to be dry and the bacon was overcooked or seemed old 2/5. The fries were the only good thing that came out of our dinner. Overall, the server was very rude and unprofessional. There was an older heavy set gentleman with a greasy looking ponytail working, thinking he may of been the manager. He was as usless as our server. If i rememeber, her name started with a T. I dont think we will return here. We have lived in Whitby for years and heard good stuff about this place, but unfortunately we were let down.

I adore Melanie Pringles and have never had anything but a wonderful experience here! They accommodate vegan requests, my only wish is that there were more fun vegan diner options...perhaps beans n toast/Fieldroast hotdogs/pasta w lentil bolognese/vegan french onion soup. Seriously love the vibe of this place.

Melanie Pringles has been a favourite for over 30 years now. It never disappoints. The food is always amazing, and the service is top notch with very little turnover. Its very reasonably priced as well.

I eat here way too much. Ive gone so many different times so theres obviously a variation in service each time but I only get ONE thing there and its delicious every time (california club sandwich - please stop using tiny cucumber chunks though, its better with slices so they dont fall out of the sandwich, and go back to smushing the avocado instead of slices!) But you can always count on MPs to be a good meal.

Gorgeous restaurant and amazing food, I absolutely loved my C.S.M.S (chicken,spinach,mushroom,Swiss on a brioche bun) and the incredible baked potato soup! Our server was awesome and helped narrow down our choices efficiently!

Atmosphere fun & a bit classic; hasnt been updated or started a much-needed renovation. Server was attentive & accurate albeit a tad slow in his initial approach to us. (The drinks took 7.5 minutes to arrive.) Food was plentiful & warm. *Be very warned: The Blue Cheese Burger is very much overwhelmingly overpowering in actual blue cheese flavouring! Seriously: the ONLY actual taste in my mouth was the blue cheese. The beef patty and other toppings were 100% completely lost due to the cheese. Yes, I realize the menu item specified blue cheese, but, this hamburger was completely destroyed due to such a monumentally callosally overwhelming flavour. Frankly, I couldnt drink enough beer & water to invalidate my ruined pallet. If it wasnt for such a shockingly gratuitous error, this visit would clearly score higher. The Server at absolute no point asked if everything was fine. Could it be that he actually tried this burger? Based on this experience, we will most definitely not return & honestly, do not recommend dining at this establishment for fear that their other menu items are equally cooked improperly from their amateurish non-trained kitchen staff.

It wasnt good. Been coming here a long time and I never had an issue before. Food was not good and the order arrived with wrong stuff in it. Chicken Parm was burnt too. This isnt acceptable.

We have never came on a Friday but the food took longer than usual (40mins for appetizers and 30 more mins for food). We enjoyed the live performer so it was okay.

This was my first time visiting, even though Ive lived in the area for years. I enjoyed my buttermilk chicken, the cornbread and potatoes were also good, and even though Im not a coleslaw person it actually was one of the better ones Ive tasted, not too vinegary. My husband liked his Philly cheesesteak sandwich, it had good flavour. The prices were also reasonable. We sat out on the little patio, which was actually quite quiet. I will eat here again, its quite a popular place!

I love this place and the atmosphere. Always consistent food and good pricing. I make it a point to stop when I am in the area for lunch or supper here.

Fantastic! Second time going in two weeks and the food is on point. I had the Cobb salad with the house Thousand Island dressing and it was one of the best salads I have ever had. So fresh and tasted amazing! The dressing was delicious, and you can taste that its homemade. Very kind and helpful waitress as well. Everyone in my family loved it. Will be back again for sure.

Just visited this restaurant for the first time. We were a group of 4 adults, 3 kids on wing night and we made reservations. The adults ordered wings and the kids ordered kids meals. Nothing extraordinary. The server didnt write any of our meals down when taking our order. By mistake, we forgot to ask our server for no ice in one of our drinks and she appeared rude about it when asked for the drink without ice. Our meals took an hour to come, without any updates or apologies from the server. I understand that they are a busy restaurant but, its common courtesy to check in/follow up/update especially with a pregnant woman and kids present. In addition, one of the kids meals were forgotten. It took them another half hour to bring it out after we notified the server. In total, our food took us an hour and half to come. At this point, I was absolutely annoyed. The server apologized and blamed the kitchen for the mistake. She offered us free dessert or a $15 coupon that had a catch to it but, its not about that. Its about proper customer service, especially being accountable instead of placing blame. Wont be returning sadly. I understand that this happens but, it could have been dealt with in a professional manner with professional staff.

Vegetarian options: Last time I was at this restaurant was in 2019, this time today we decided to try ot again, but the quality of the food was really bad compared to a few years ago, the service was ok, but the food was so disappointing ! Food

I have been going to and recommended Melanie Pringles for many years and up to today have always been very pleased with the service and food. Today I ordered a buffalo blue cheese cob salad, it was too spicy and when I complained at the end of my meal to the waitress, since the waitress never checked on us during our meal, I was told she would she what she could do for us. I would expect a discount on our bill since it was obvious that I barely ate my meal but instead I got a $15 coupon on my next meal. The assumption was that I will be returning, sorry very unlikely It s unfortunate that the management doesn t appreciate long time loyal customers

Great family spot with nostalgia for the parents

My first time here today. My mom and I both wanted something for lunch. This place did not disappoint. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away. Food was FANTASTIC. My mom opted for a chicken burger and I myself a wrap with fries. The gravy was by far the best gravy EVERRR. The waitresses and Melanie herself were extremely personable and friendly. Thank you Melanie, we will definitely be return customers.

Anytime my fiancé and I are in town we always swing by to grab the best burger in town! Service is always on point, and food fresh and always hot. Love the oldies decor. The only thing Id change is the air freshners they have throughout the restaurant, Very strong and smells like a bathroom..in a good way lol all in all my favorite restaurant in whitby and Ill see you guys again soon!

best wings and nachos

My family and I really liked the atmosphere and diner theme throughout. It wasn t very busy when we got there but started picking up later into the evening. Despite that our service was still pretty good. Food was ok would definitely go again.

I never leave Google reviews but I came here with some friends for dinner for the first time recently and it was absolutely amazing! Their stellar service and hospitality is what made me want to leave this review. While waiting for our dinner, our waiter informed me that there would be a delay for my food due to him accidentally dropping it before. I didn t mind, we honestly hadn t been waiting long at all, but then he went truly above and beyond bringing me a salad in the meantime while I waited and waiving the charge for my entire meal! I will definitely be returning here again in the future. I also ordered the buttermilk BLT and it was delicious.

Hadnt been here in years, decided to revisit when looking for a change to our normal routine. The eclectic atmosphere is still present, and the food was really good ( smash burger delivered on the waiters promise). Weekly specials are on point, will be added into our regular rotation for dinners out. Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly....

This is a really great restaurant. It s very ambient & affordable. It s clean & the service is excellent! In a time where some places that you pay to dine in, the service is mediocre - THIS is the opposite! I ve been twice lately & plan to dine in again soon. My food was delicious. Shrimp pasta dish both times. Special shout out to the lovely blonde service with the 2 pretty braids & the male server with the ponytail. You 2 will keep customers coming again & again & that s really positive for your business. Parking: Parking is FREE. Enough said. Lol. Kid-friendliness: The kid sized dinner meal was gigantic! Really a good deal & includes a free dessert as well. This is a nice place for children to visit because diners are slowly disappearing (unless you live in America).

We were seated fast was very busy, only one server on. Son ordered beef brisket. i had half club soup. Was a long wait wrong soup, took ages to get the soup back or the server. Was just ok son liked his food a lot. i was not too excited asparagus soup water, no taste.

Write down your orders before taking an order unless you can get it right

Food is always good there and great prices. Friendly staff. Meat loaf tastes nice for a family dinner type food. The Chicken Caesar wrap is very tasty! The soups are always home made here and different then youre day to day soups and also very tasty. You also have to try the home made dressing! The best! Come on over and have a great taste!

A cool 50s diner style restaurant!

Every visit Ive had, whether with family or friends has been delightful! I recommend if going for weekend dinner booking a reservation, but otherwise, the service, staff and food are always great! Theyve even got some arcade, and pinball machines, so if ever you have to wait, youve got entertainment

First and last time there. Took forever for food to arrive. Burger was terrible, not fully cooked. I never finished burger as it made me want to vomit. Still feeling queasy.

Ringo/Ben was one of the kindest and warmest servers I have ever met, he made my visit enjoyable and wonderful. Thank you for the experience we WILL be returning. :)

We wandered in to try the nachos and have to say it was worth the trip. Then the second surprise was the Guinness on tap. One of the best pints around ( head of the pint needs to be a touch bigger) Our server Bonnie was great.

Had the liver for lunch, it was like a fried piece of shoe leather. The cook did not know how to prepare liver. My wife had the turkey wrap which had very little turkey in it.

Went in tonight for dinner on an empty stomach, and my family n I were served by an amazing waitress, Sam. She managed to keep up with us on this busy night and made sure we were at our happiest with the food! We had a minor inconvenience with the chicken but it was something that Sam fixed within minutes! She s awesome any customer would be lucky to get served by her! Thank you Sam

Vegetarian options: There are a few veg options. The grilled mushrooms wrap is wonderful. Parking: Common parking lot for a strip mall. We have been to Melanie Pringles 3 or 4 times now and always find parking... sometimes clost to the restaurant door and sometimes not.

This is The Classic 1950 s dinner in Durham region with authentic decor with tasty pub fare. Despite what you might have heard, kids do not eat free on Sunday but at least they have a good kids menu. This place has been around for as long as it has for a reason. Decent price, good food, acceptable service. Kid-friendliness: Small arcade to keep kids busy.

Classic style diners are becoming rarer and rarer. After moving away from Whitby, we typically make sure to visit Melanie Pringles when we are back in town. Our kids absolutely love it too.

We came during a rush, waited 15-20 to be seated, another 10-15 to get drinks. The ANOTHER 15 before server came back to take our food order. The rush died down and we still didnt receive our food for almost an hour, despite being one of three occupied tables in the bar area. Our server disappeared for almost this entire time. I had to go chase down various employees to find out what was going on. If I had had cash on me I would have paid for my drinks and left. Again, we were a table of three, in a nearly empty restaurant. Wound up deeply discounting our bill, but that cant discount a horrible experience. Two solid hours for one round of drinks, three simple meals. The fries were good.

Had a dinner planned for a large group and couldn t be happier with how the staff helped put everything together. Very accommodating and made everything easy, food was great! Would recommend and will be going back.
