High St, Ripley, Woking GU23 6AF, United Kingdom
Toby Cottage is a cosy and relaxing restaurant set in a beautiful oak-beamed building in the village of Ripley. Originally built as a cottage the building housed a shop specializing in the sale of Toby Jugs. Now a thriving silver-service restaurant looking after up to 70 guests for lunch, dinner and special occasions.
Excellent on every level. Food was amazing, the service was fun but unobtrusive and the building is amazing and seems much older than 1890 when it was (apparently built). The Beef Wellington is amazing and my whole group all enjoyed their meals. The price is according to the quality.
Just what we wanted! Sunday lunch. We ate varying starters followed by the standard Sunday roast lunches ; 2 x Beef, 1 x Pork. It was just what we had in mind. We'd certainly go back as the remaining menu items looked really good & we'd like to try different things.
We found this place thanks to Google map reviews so I am returning the favour by adding a review. As others have said, the decor is dated but the food is delicious and the service quality is top notch. I loved the dessert trolley. Our waiter Mark was excellent. I will definitely be returning and will bring friends and family.
My partner and I had such a wonderful experience. The food was incredible, extremely accommodating if you need to change something from your choice of food. Service was 10/10 and the waiters have a great sense of humour! Perfect, quaint little spot! We will be returning :)
What a fabulous find this was. We went for Sunday lunch as it was somewhere my mother in law went many years ago with her late husband and she wanted to go back. The food was lovely but what really made it was the staff. Such a fun bunch. There were short staffed and so very busy but still managed to have a great time with all their customers. We will definitely go back.
We went for dinner and were very impressed with the experience. The restaurant itself is somewhat dated, but that’s not a criticism, it’s like walking back in time and the level of service reflects that. The waiters and all staff we dealt with were very kind and entertaining. The food, well, the food was sublime! I would recommend to anyone and we will be returning in a few weeks to try some other items on the menu! Fresh bread and butter on arrival was a nice touch, especially because the bread rolls were shaped like tiny loafs which was a nice touch!
Wonderful quaint traditional restaurant with exceptional service. Simply the best food.
Delightful Sunday roast. The lamb was delicious. Wonderful owners and staff looked after us throughout the meal. Highly recommended!
Excellent birthday party for our family on Sunday. Everything was perfect! Beef wellington was historic but everyone enjoyed their meal.
Great food great service highly recommended
Lovely restaurant with beautiful food. Welcoming and attentive staff
Wonderful evening in such a cosy atmosphere with delicious food and wonderful staff .
What a pity the owner is uninterested: no wonder its up for sale. There was an atmosphere which was uncomfortable, and it was obvious he didnt want to be there. The hospitality was non-existent, and the food was disappointing: the soup was just warm, not hot, and the saute potatoes were flabby, not crisp. The owner was constantly hovering and moving furniture round us and we were rushed. After spending over £164, I shall be happy never to step inside again. This is the first time I have ever written a bad review of a restaurant meal. A special occasion completely ruined.
The owner and staff were all extremely attentive and friendly. The dishes that we had were cooked and presented to perfection and we had an extremely enjoyable evening.
Great food and service. Just like the old days but with wonderful modern food.
As always we had a wonderful evening at The Toby Cottage celebrating our wedding anniversary. Always a good dining experience. Food and ambience never disappoint. Looking forward to our next visit.
Update: Had another fabulous meal at the Toby Cottage. Saturday 7th September, incredible food staff, service and atmosphere, it could not have been better! Thank you very much Tony, Toni, Mark and Emily. Have eaten here several times of late and the total experience is always excellent. We travel there from Camberley as there is not a restaurant of this quality near to us. Parking is much better now that it is possible to use the adjacent council car park. As always we totally recommend the Toby Cottage. Quality restaurant with excellent food and great service. My family and I have eaten here many times over many years, and enjoy the great food and humerous banter with the two Tonis. Will always remain our favourite restaurant. Thank you both for an excellent experience, as always, this evening.
We celebrated with a party of 15 friends at the Toby Cottage last week. The food was excellent, service fantastic and everyone really enjoyed themselves. We have been coming to the Toby for many years and would highly recommend the restaurant
Great food and excellent service from Mark - he knew his stuff and made everyone feel welcome!!!
Awesome meal..excellent service..fillet steak was best I can remember in my lifetime..(nearly 60! ) .08/24 .Just had a lovely Sunday Set menu Great value and choice..awesome Parking: With Ripley village Hall now open and resizing of car park...parking is much tighter
Excellent food, amazing service and we keep going back
Seven of us had lunch on 27/4/2023 it was amazing from the wine to dessert just perfect service as always first class food just amazing thank you very much we will be back
Amazing food and fantastic service - as always. We ve been coming here for about 10 years and Toby Cottage gets better every time. Sunday lunch is a real joy. Food : 5/5
Very disappointed with the quality of food Parking: Car park limited space, park on road Wheelchair accessibility: None
A lovely little venue with loads of character and the staff were all very friendly, attentive, and funny. Was a lovely evening.
We had the most delicious meal with 30 friends and family to celebrate our wedding. Fabulous food, excellent service from such a friendly team and a wonderful atmosphere. Thank you to all at Tony Cottage Vegetarian options: We only had one vegetarian hence the patron was able to discuss a number of options. Our guest felt very special and chose a delicious ravioli
I met someone for lunch. It s got real character in this place. The food and the service is great! Vegetarian options: I did not want what was on the menu and they immediately agreed to make me another Dish and it was excellent!
A real gem of a restaurant.
Excellent service and attention to detail. Food was very well prepared and delicious.
Great Food with a good choice menu. Lovely to have proper table clothes & napkins. Dessert Trolly was Lovely. Service was excellent. Parking: Small carpark at the rear.
Amazing food and atmosphere.
Our 3rd visit, previous two times were exceptional. Not sure what was going on today, but nasty atmosphere with one older waiter in particular bring curt, short, disinterested and unwelcoming. And this all started in the car park where he was rebuking customers parking. Hoped the food would make up for it but surprisingly it didnt, it was luke warm to cold, veg all waterlogged and tasteless, no crackling with pork, fish overcooked etc. Puds looked great but the profiteroles had barely any cream filling and were stale. Completely changed our view of this restaurant.
The perfect place.
Silver service at its finest! Friendly service, beautiful setting and outstanding food with an excellent menu. Perfect for that very special occasion.
Really nice food, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere in this tradicional, excelent Spanish restaurant.
A not-so-hidden gem on the road into Ripley village, The service is unfailingly excellent with staff who are always friendly & humorous, The Dessert trolly is the real reason I visit here! Also, if you a wine connoisseur then this is the place for you - the range of wines and the in-depth knowledge is impressive.
Great evening with friends.....too many food choices
Thoroughly enjoyed my pre-Christmas meal of Roast Turkey with veg and a yummy Cheescake. Mine Host was charming and despite his worry about limited staffing, we were well served. Lovely ambience. Seated downstairs. Parking: Limited
Great location but restaurant decor looked tired and the environment was like a trip back to the 1980s. Extensive menu which suggested to us that the food was cooked from frozen and not freshly prepared. Meat was tough and vegetables were overcooked. Dessert trolley tray was disappointing, old and really needs a refresh. Not particularly atmospheric. We have had better home cooked food. We definitely would not go back. Far better restaurants in Surrey for quality of food etc, and given this, the prices here were cheeky.
Extremely good food and fantastic service , will definitely return soon.
Fabulous Sunday lunch. Wonderful service
Saturday lunch. Food superb service excellent. Wine list extensive, tendency toward top end . Look carefully there are some less expensive but good quality wines. Car park small. Overall, will happily return. Dietary restrictions: Keen to help those with detry restrictions. Very positive attitude Parking: Very tight car park
Wonderful food and service. The Toby Cottage is our favourite. Nothing too much trouble for the staff and a very lovely, extensive menu. Great place !
Excellent friendly and efficient service. Lovely atmosphere.
Sunday lunch with friends. Very good. Starter, roast beef with everything, and dessert from the trolley, Two bottles wine between 6, drinks (G&T) on arrival. £50 a head. Very good value, great service, Ive eaten a lot of roast beef (other food available too) dinners and this one is recommended by me for quality and value. Parking: Parking behind restaurant.
Lovely place serving excellent food from their well thought out menu. The service was excellent and very accomodating. Would highly recommend this restaurant as a great place to go for a great meal.
Have visited a few times. Always happy occasions, and with good food and wine, it makes more discussion and memories. Great staff that leave you alone, and when you want, and are right there if you need topping up. Ive always liked the food there. The way they make up their steak dishes are awesome. Thoroughly recommended.
It seemed like we d wondered into my Grand Parents living room filled with random trinkets and a desert trolley that looks like it has more life experience then me. Food was bland and tasteless. The meat was tough and the potatoes seemed to have been cooked in a very under powered microwave. Far to expensive would not go back until it s had a complete refit and new menu.
Amazing restaurant, great service, great food. Great find! The wine list could have some portuguese wines apart from that all good.
Loved every bit of the experience. Service is out of this world. Must visit place. Also serve halal food
Excellent service, really good food, and a nice atmosphere. Prices are higher than good pub meals but definitely worth it. Sea bass cooked beautifully, tuna and risotto devine.
Lovely restaurant to visit in Ripley. The food was very good, with a good atmosphere. Parking: Off road parking
Excellent all round
Vegetarian options: Very little selection Food
Food and staff excellent
Our first visit since before lockdown. What a treat to find the same staff, standards and humour as usual. Delightful Sunday Lunch. Food
Incredible service. Excellent food. A truly one-of-a-kind restaurant. Food
Having returned, once again, from a very enjoyable lunch at The Toby Cottage, Ripley I felt compelled to write a review. Having, for many years, visited this restaurant for lunches and dinners both with friends, family and as a President of a Women s Institute with 20 members I have yet to be disappointed. The waiters are unobtrusively attentive and friendly and the food unsurpassable, there is always a varied selection both on the set menu and a la carte and I would strongly recommend The Toby Cottage. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the beamed ceiling makes it oldy worldy and I hope, very much, to continue my patronage for many years to come.
Toni and his staff are very welcoming with excellent food, I can highly recommend it.
Italian restaurant, the interior was going back in time, old British rather than Italian. Food acceptable, the cake trolley itself worn away , the containers covering the cakes were I imagine clear when purchased , now scratched after decades of cleaning. Staff acceptably pleasant and attentive.
One of the owners was a little to overbearing Parking: Not enough space for the number of covers Food : 3/5 |
After a good experience here some years ago we returned to find the decor, presentation and food all a bit tired. Pity.
Always excellent food with traditional fare. We had Steak Diane flambe to order and choice from the voluminous sweet trolley. Great venue and very attentive staff. Highly recommended.
Love it, excellent tasting food. Generous portions, beautiful cooked belly pork and to top it yes my Goat yes I attribute this to food as well as sport, apple crumble. 100% happy. Cheerful and happy staff making the whole experience happy
A table booked for five on a Thursday in August What a pleasure to visit this fabulous restaurant and genuinely feel welcomed by the owner and all the staff. A great selection of Good Honest food cooked to perfection. We all enjoyed our Lunch. Yes its like stepping back in time at The Toby Cottage. Back to the days when the customer was made to feel special. Top service with a smile by a professional host and waiters . Just amazing a thing that you rarely find these days. Its a pleasure to award this Fine Restaurant Five Stars on Everything. WE WILL BE BACK. ,JUST MAGIC. Parking: Not a problem
Fabulous meal , brilliant service - would thoroughly recommend!
We tried this restaurant while staying overnight in Ripley and what a find! Lovely atmosphere, generous portions, fabulous, proffessional staff. A group on another table were enjoying a birthday celebration, where the staff joined in and sang Happy Birthday, which was a nice touch and the fact that the desserts are brought round on a trolley was super old fashioned - lovely. The only hiccup was that it seemed rather pricey but a good evening out.
Came back to our wedding venue 50 years on to celebrate our Golden Wedding - so glad we did. Had an excellent evening with wonderful food and best service ever. Thank you all for making our evening so special.
Fantastic lunch time meal. Service was perfect all staff friendly and attentive.Lovely cosy atmosphere with a traditional beamed dining area.
Excellent as always. I have been away from the area for many years and standards are just as good as they were when I last visited
Having an hotel & restaurant background, Im pretty fussy! However, our greeting on arrival was warm and friendly, the staff were attentive, yet relaxed, the table settings were white tablecloth and silver cutlery, the glasses were spotless and the food absolutely delicious! The ambience was cosy and relaxed. I honestly couldnt fault it! Vegetarian options: There was enough vegetarian choice
This place has charm and service and excellent food! I d highly recommend it to anyone wanting a really good meal and good old fashioned manners, service and nostalgia. Staff are the absolute shinning star of the Toby.
Went to this restaurant as a walk-in on a Tuesday night and was seriously impressed. In contrast to the modern trend in restaurants, the menu is vast and all of it looks very appealing. The chef is excellent and the food is top-notch. The Maitre d is charming and hospitable and the prices are reasonable. There is a fair bit of competition in Ripley when it comes to restaurants but this place really ought to be a lot busier than it is. Highly recommended.
The best restaurant in the world. I m not even joking. Please recommend to all your friends and family. I ve been coming here since I was tiny and the Toby Cottage is still perfection in every sense of the word. Parking: Lovely
Outstanding
Family lunch for 17 , exceptional service and food . The Toby never lets you down .
Great meal
Always a wonderful locale for lunch.
Sadly this was a very disappointing 50th birthday experience for my friend and I. Whilst I understand Saturdays are super busy we felt the staff were unfriendly, dismissive, arrogant and had bias towards their regulars. Perhaps something had happened prior to the start of the evening to have had caused the behavioural changes? The two younger staff were friendly, attentive and kind and because of their attitude towards us I paid the service charge. My friend had the lamb which she enjoyed. I had ordered the pork belly for my main. One strip with no crackling. Burnt and soggy Veggies were ok. Overpriced for what it was and as I did not eat it, it was obvious that there was something wrong. Was asked everything ok? before I had a chance to express myself, the waiter had taken my plate and left. It was such a shame as first visit to Ripley and (last) to this establishment. I dislike leaving negative comments, however, felt this needed mentioning.
Fantastic service
Excellent meal and service
Turley a gem. A must go to folks
Very pleasant restaurant, conveniently placed, good food, reasonable prices and very attentive service.
Great food. Excellent service and the team are welcoming and very helpful.
Family meal last night and food and service as good as ever. Very reliable restaurant for a great night out.
Absolutely fantastic experience. The staff are excellent, friendly, polite and funny, in all the right measures. They made my 7 year old son feel a million dollars! It may not be cheap, but the food was worth every penny, very tasty and generous portion size. Not importantly all 5 of us received our food at the same time, so no one was left waiting. Its an old restaurant, with a cozy decor and has more than 40 years of trading, long may it continue.
Really nice place and really taste food. I stopped for a Sunday roast and I am really pleased with the service, speed of the staff and quality of the food.
This was our first time at this restaurant in Ripley having always lived next door on Weybridge. Cannot believe that we had not been before. It is fantastic and quality food and wonderful service with a good sense of humour too. It reminds me of La Capana in Cobham. Same food quality and style, a wonderful desert trolley and good wines too. A must try for all and great for special occasions. Plus a decent car park at the back which makes it even more relaxing.
Duck! No that s not what I had to eat beware if you are over 5ft 6 this restaurant has a low ceiling Found this gem of a restaurant by chance and had lunch there today Food was amazing along with great service from all the staff Loved the quirky dessert trolley Please don t forget to duck
Lovely food and wonderful service, happy to go again if in the area!
As always, a delightful dining experience with fine food and the always friendly staff. Greatly appreciated by my guests.
Absolutely love tobys cottage. Food, ambience and service are second to none. Cant wait to come back.
great service, friendly attitude, lovely food.
As always, lovely food and lovely venue
simply perfect
Timeless. Delicious Italian cooking, sensible wine list and immaculate service. Always a bit of polite banter to accompany a thoroughly pleasant evening. Weve never been disappointed over nine years.
What a fantastic venue - the food and hospitality is always wonderful, whether dining in a small or large group. Drove past it for many years, but wish wed tried it sooner !
We had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch at Toby Cottage today. We all ate from the set menu, there was an excellent selection to choose from. We all really enjoyed our choices. The sweet trolley was exceptional. The service was above and beyond and everywhere spotlessly clean. There is a very traditional feel to the restaurant. I would highly recommend a visit.
First time visiting Toby Cottage and can only say that I regret not having discovered it sooner. The food was exceptional, superb quality and generous portions and attention to detail - even down to the side dishes which were all delicious. Loved the pudding trolley as well! Service was fantastic, friendly, attentive, good humour and banter. Will definitely be back and could not recommend highly enough.
Very friendly service:) We will back!
Excellent service, excellent meal. Parking: Good
Sunday menu..really good value..lovely food..but attentive and professional service doesnt leave you with a request waiting beyond 30 seconds..Awesome
Our favourite restaurant been using it for years and have never been disappointef
An excellent, typical English cuisine with a rich wine list including marvels from Spain such as rare Ribeira del Duero. Ripley is one this charming treasures of the Surrey country side and the Tobby cottage seems to be part of a novel by William Thackeray.
Wonderful meal last night. The service and food was fantastic thanks so much. Will be back again
Parking: Bit short on parking space, but the staff were happy to help.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere and very attentive service. We had a very lovely dinner here & would absolutely recommend this place.
Really wonderful food in very generous portions. Great friendly service , felt like family by the time we left. Charming
Parking: Car park very crowded Food
Very traditional Italian restaurant and all the better for it. Food is exceptional prices reasonable. Beware if you are over 6ft. Youll bang your head on the low ceiling if your not careful! Highly recommended and not just for dwarves!
Fine dining at its best. Parking: Not a huge car park but room for about 15 or 20 cars. Food : 4/5 |
Excellent Sunday roast, good portion, lovely dessert & wine list. Fast service and friendly staff.
Great restaurant. Good selection of well priced wines. Recommended for a treat. Food : 5/5
Lovely traditional restaurant. So nice to have real tablecloths and napkins. Lovely food and good service.
Birthday Party, food was excellent service was superb
Delicious food, great atmosphere and attentive, friendly staff. Lost count of the times Ive been since but always excellent service, superb food and lovely ambience. Cant wait for my next visit!
Still Loving in some ways to step back into the 1970 s but I don t expect the cuisine of that era at the Toby s prices Christmas menu Stewed vegetables (broccoli had gone to a mash ) Turkey Role Honestly tasteless and a joke in this era ! Over roasted potatoes ,reheated to a solid tasteless nugget Bisto style under thickened gray And many more catering failures including food temperature across set menu and Specials the restaurant is up for sale . And it shows Their heart isn t in it . Which isn t fair in the customers . Dietary restrictions: Not mentioned
Superb restaurant with great food, great wine and the best service, highly recommend.
Food was delicious the staff very attentive.
This is one of our favourite places to celebrate a special occasion.
In an age when casual dining in Identikit eateries is virtually the norm, it is refreshing to find a family-owned restaurant that is still proudly offering classic cuisine and old-fashioned standards of service. All at a reasonable price. The Toby Cottage is one such rarity. Old favourites such as Deep Fried Whitebait, Beef Wellington and Herb Crusted Lamb feature large. The dessert trolley is impossible to resist. Remember Banofee Pie? Well, you wont find it done better anywhere else. A must-visit for those who go misty-eyed for crisp cotton table cloths, proper cutlery and an extensive, well-curated wine list. Highly recommended.
The service, staff and food is amazing.
Excellent service and food. Well worth booking for special occasions also wonderful original sweet trolley.
Amazing menu, beautifully prepared, with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff cannot do enough to make you happy. Well worth a visit, you wont be disappointed.
Love coming here, for the great food, the atmosphere and the lovely, friendly service. The dessert trolley is awesome!
Quantity over quality
Beautiful food, wine and service
Really disappointed with last visit. Having been a few times and raved about food and service was excited to be back after lockdown. Beef Wellington was over cooked, no one asked how food was and had to beckon staff over to order drinks and ask for extra jus. Wine lady and young lady doing desserts were superstars. Male waiters, shame on you. Wont be back
Had a great time. Good ol fashioned silver service. Yummy food, good wine, great service and the winner... A dessert cart!
As always friendly service and delicious food in a charming environment. Never been disappointed and the first choice when we are entertaining.
Sadly this was a disappointing experience. Online the menu looked fantastic but the reality was a tired, 70s dining experience (not in a retro way). The food was sub-standard. On a positive note the wine list was comprehensive and catered for all tastes and budgets. The waiter had a great sense of humour but unfortunately these pluses did not make up for the chefs lack of sophistication.
Went for sunday dinner thought the price was way to high for the quality of the food. Tasteless whitebait. Beef very gristle pudding again tasteless
13/12 service, food was amazing, building and atmosphere perfect, not sure of his actual name but gent with roots in tenerife was the exact example of ideal service and may have lost his tan but definitely not his smile. Thank you for a great night and also for the drambuie. Youre a true legend. So overall, great night Xx
Absolutely amazing. We were celebrating my daughters 30th birthday. We were welcomed and seated by a waiter who was humorous and entertaining. The choice on the menu is superb and the food exquisite. Will definitely go back again. We had a lovely evening here.
Fantastic place, there is a great atmosphere and you can tell everyone is enjoying the food. Id say its excellent value for money, excellent ingredients cooked well with charming staff, cant wait to go back again.
Just love this place... Food and service are always exceptional!!
Excellent allover, food, service, atmosphere.
Very nice staff.nice atmosphere.amazing food.x
Last night was our 3rd visit & they didnt disappoint. The food is wonderful & the waiters are attentive & helpful, the building is full of character. Its a special place.
Once again, fantastic food and excellent service! Cant wait to go back!
Grade one !
Outstanding food and warm service
Staff were really great. Very dry and funny. The food was good and the service was surprisingly quick given we were a big group.
Fantastic place to meet you friends great staff
Gorgeous exquisite restaurant...lovely staff...excellent service .. thank you
Good food, lovely atmosphere. Wednesday lunchtime.
We love this restaurant. The service is outstanding, friendly, attentive and personal. And the food is always amazing and just wonderful. Its our very favourite restaurant. Everyone makes us feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble. By far the best place to eat and just relax with ultimate food and great service to feel special.
The food and service is first class well worth a visit
Really nice food and really friendly waiters. Scallops wrapped in parma ham and crab cakes for starter, both really tasty. Beef Wellington for main which again was delicious. Pudding was a homemade apple crumble and a sherry trifle - both delicious and luckily not huge as the main filled us up!! Really good wine menu. Will definitely return.
Amazing food and welcoming environment. Just perfect!
The best hosts, and fabulous food. A delightful experience everytime we visit.
Good food and a great atmosphere staff working very hard to keep us all safe in these difficult times
Best sweet trolley ever
Great food and excellent service. Highly recommend!
Excellent food and very attentive staff. Great lunch
Delicious food
Excellent food and excellent service!! Highly recommend it!!
Great food, service and wonderful stsff
Very attentive service, good food and lovely ambience!
Nice but not worth the steep prices.
Absolutely amazing. Delicious food and friendly staff. Great distances between the tables and antibac on each table. We will be back. Thank you.
Food was average, service was average, price was astronomical. We will not be back.
Friday 24th Sep, I had the opportunity to visit this restaurant. I was in the area a few hours and I end up having lunch and dinner there due the outstanding service. Food was delicious, generous portions, Covid-19 restrictions follow to the dot, hygienically 10/10. I would certainly highly recommended!!
Good old school restaurant food a good standard with friendly staff and good covid measures ... Will be back
Very very good food enjoyable experience
We a delish lunch for our Anniversary. Sraff were friendly and attentive without crowding your space. Will definitely return !!!
Outstanding food and service.
Absolutely lovely, with staff with great sense of humour, superb food, all booked for next Sunday.
Excellent venue for a special occasion. Wonderful food and great service.
Another excellent meal with mouthwatering food and first class service
Love this place, staff are fab, food is great and reasonably priced as well xx
Excellent food, very friendly staff, had a great time there.
Lovely food . Good service. Very pleasant setting.
Our experience was as follows: - We were first offered to have a drink at the upstairs bar, where crisps and olives had already been laid on the small table - Unfortunately the crisps had obviously been left out for a few hours as they had gone horribly soft - Whilst depleting the stale crisps, we were asked what drinks we would like. Without a drinks menu, I asked what IPA options were available, the waiter said none. That was ok, however, he was then a bit confused by my question of What have you got?, almost frustrated by the question. - Whilst consuming stale crisps and an unknown beverage, we were offered the food menu and the recital from the Manager of the Specials Menu. I think this could have been a little more harmonious, as none of us felt invited to order any of it! With our food orders placed we then made our way to the main table, downstairs. - The waitress proceeded to lay the napkins on our laps, however, in being so focused on entertaining us with friendly chat, she managed to miss my mother-in-laws lap and dropped the napkin on the floor, and didnt even notice. By this point I was quite simply laughing about the whole experience of being there. - Needless to say, the food arrived and was fairly poor, mainly because it was drenched in cooking oil. In summary, I would go to the local chip shop before returning to this venue for food.
Charm in abundance with stylish food at a fair price. Happy to recommend to all and sundry. Viva Espania! The food is british mind.
Amazing, highly recommend, service out of this world.
Impeccable. Not cheap but well worth it.
Fantastic atmosphere , just got home from a evening at the Toby cottag, The staff made us all feel special and thr food was unbelievable, the steak I had was out of this world the sauce was perfect and the veg and cauliflower cheese was to die for , what an immaculate restaurant with equally brilliant staff I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone !!
We had a meal last night to celebrate 2 birthdays and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff and service were excellent throughout the night, the waiters that served our table were attentive and very amusing, the food was delicious and we will definitely return. Highly recommended....
Excellent and a wonderful setting in many ways. Staff fantastic and eloquent in both a special way and down to earth way. Thank you for a lovely meal. Food and wine is exquisite and only cooked to order! Definitely go there again! Thank you to all the chefs, staffs and owners . Something great local to Guildford
Great food and the waiters will have you laughing in no time. Really worth a visit.
One of the best restaurants in Surrey with excellent food and first class service.
This was hired out for a birthday party for a family member and they did a phenomenal job. Great atmosphere, brilliant food, and amazing & friendly service. Could not recommend more.
This a great restaurant. Food is amazing and the service even better. Its an old cottage converted into an old fashioned restaurant, right up my street. I have been here a few times over the years and it is consistently great. The bar is upstairs and the restaurant is always full so always book to avoid disappointment. I have been twice in two weeks with two of my daughters for their respective birthdays this November (different years ). Service is wonderful, attentive, caring and fast. They have lots of staff to ensure you have a great experience. I have had melted brie and today the fried calamares as starters. Simply delicious and a very generous portions. I have also tried the fillet steak and the beef wellington and both are just too good. My wife had the Sunday menu and loved it. I strongly recommend it. But book first.
My favourite restaurant with the best food and waiters
Only one word. FANTASTIC.
Food is amazing, been going here for over 30 years and its still as special every time I visit.
Amazing food of the highest standard. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended.
Great food, excellent cellar and friendly, attentive service. I would highly recommend.
Its a wonderful, friendly and great place to visit
Despite a very busy build up to Christmas, we managed to book our last visit to this superb restaurant to round our year off. The Toby has been our favourite for many years so if it aint broke dont fix it. We have always been rewarded with wonderful service and coupled together with excellent food a very good wine list it makes for a wonderful evening. Looking forward to our first 2020 visit already.
