955 Eglinton Ave W, York, ON M6C 2C4, Canada
Family-owned dining room with Middle Eastern food in a low-key space with take-out options.
We had the Lamb chops and it was perfect. Dishes comes with salad and your choice of rice or fries for $29.90 (as of 11/25/2024). We both choose rice as we love middle-east rice! Everything was delicious and portions were big enough for two if you don’t eat a lot. They also provide a pita bread per person for free. Add some olive oil with salt and pepper and it’s a perfect appetizer. Service was ok, and atmosphere could be better if they’d added some traditional music. Definitely worth the visit.
Food was good. Portions were decent to share. My mum enjoyed the rice. We ordered a platter of hummus and baba ganoush to share. The falafel was good but I wish it had a little more sauce. I recommend the lamb and the cauliflower. Service was a little quiet but still friendly. We went on a Sunday and didn't need reservations
Beautiful establishment with excellent service and food. Anything you order from the menu is healthy and tasty, I had a lamb skewers with fries and salad and grilled eggplant as an appetizer. We'll come back! :)
We had a big group dinner with many shared dishes. Not enough staff on hand for the full Sunday evening crowd so service was slow to start. Hummous, bread, tabouleh, falafel, fattoush, stewed tomatoes, fried eggplant, chicken, beef, rice and salad. Food was hot and delicious.
Delicious and authentic food. The combination dinner for two ($55) is incredible value, especially in this economy. Lovely helpful service. Nice middle eastern decor and casual atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Okay, I just HAVE to rave about this place. Their food was SO GOOD. SO flavourful and most of all, SO worth the price. Truly! My friend and I got the dinner for two with the chicken, beef, and kofta. And my goodness was it worth it. The portion sizes were generous and they don't skimp out. The baba ganoush and hummus with pitas and falafel/tahini + pickled items came first and it was heavenly. I was afraid I was starting to get full because again, the portion sizes were huge! Then the mains came with the eggplant, tabouleh, rice, and skewers ... The meat was tender. Rice was fresh. The aromas of the flavours, oh my goodness, I can't wait to return lol. And honestly, the best part after.... THE BILL. For $55, split in two plus our drinks... I really feel I scored a jackpot here! I'd highly recommend :) PS. Low quality pics because I took bites first lol
Loved all of the food here. We had the combo for two which included tabouli, hummus, baba ganoush, falafel, garlic eggplants, skewers and salad. Everything was amazing. I can’t say one critical thing about any of the dishes. Flavour was impeccable! Can’t wait to come back and bring friends. Glad to have a place like this close by - authentic Palestinian food!
This restaurant is now on my list of favorites in Toronto. Clean and calm, with classical music in the background. The decor is pretty and simple, which is a charm. As We ordered the plate for two and we had enough, the plates were big and everything was delicious. We also tried a different beer, I recommend it. My experience was 100% positive. I will definitely come back, and for sure very hungry.
I gave been coming here for about 35 years, when I can. I dont live in Toronto. Their quality has been consistent for decades.
Default 15% tips WITHOUT telling the customer in advance, no service as well. Our table had only 2 ppl Okay food tho
Food was just ok, it s family place. Service was excellent. Atmosphere is what you would expect from a family restaurant. Prices are fair for portions. Hard to recommend anything, none of it was bad, none of it stands out either.
We have eaten here before and love the food but DO NOT ORDER TAKEOUT ON A SUNDAY! We ordered at 4:15 for a 6:30 pickup. This was a large order, people came and left with their takeout while I waited from 6:15. I waited over 35 minutes at the pickup time for the order. Seems like total chaos and an unsustainable situation. Either expand the kitchen staff or refuse takeout order after your reach a limit. Will never do this again.
Had the skewered lamb and hummus. The serving of hummus was very generous, and the pita was authentic and superb. The skewered lamb was cooked perfectly, with the perfect juiciness. The dining area is very spacious and very tastefully decorated.
Ordered take out last night at 4:30pm. I was told to pick up the dinner at 5:45pm. I got to Jerusalem at 5:40pm. It was mayhem. Everyone waiting and waiting for their meal. Mine came out 20 minutes late. That is just unacceptable. But it is standard procedure for Jerusalem. I ll not bother to order there again. Definitely not worth the wait for really mediocre food.
Authentic Palestinian food ! Been coming for years. To the point, generous portions, great service never a let down def a community staple
Best Middle Eastern food ever!!!
very gout top top top number 1 a Toronto
Love everything here! Fantastic food and even better prices. We get the dinner for 4 and you get so many appetizers and much food that although we are 4 people with great appetites we have leftovers for the next days lunch! There are alot of vegetarian options as well! Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian dishes including hummus, foule, fried tomatoes, falafel (the best in town) and labaneh etc Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian and non-dairy options make this a wonderful goto place!
Was going to order from this place as I heard it s Palestinian, so I called to clarify before making my order. Turns out they re not Palestinian (despite being called JERUSALEM??) so I think we can all gather the true origins of this restaurant. A shame because as middle easterners we pride ourselves on each country s cuisine, watch out for restaurants that label themselves as broadly middle eastern . Don t be tricked friends!
Great experience! Lots of options and food tastes fresh. Loved their lentil soup and their eggplant dishes. Service is warm and efficient and the icing on the cake was their surprise baladi dance performance.
U must try the eggplant
Food is great.
This is an arab middle eastern cuisine ( syria, lebanon, palestine, jordan ) not israeli.
Food is good.
They have the best shrimp it tastes so good the mouth watering and they have very good customer care service this is a place I would recommend its 8/10 and the prices are affordable
Great food, everything is so tasty, especially those baked eggplants! The quality is consistent, and the prices are exactly what I would expect to pay. Service is fast and everyone is so friendly.
Horrible service. Extremely rude. Awful food. If I could give it zero stars I would.
Large portions, good food at a decent price, nice atmosphere. Ate there with my family. Only drawback is that they only do cash or credit. No debit.
I dont write reviews often but couldnt help myself. Although the food is good....DO NOT ORDER FROM TAKEOUT. We called for take out in the afternoon and were told our food would be ready at 6:30 pm. I arrived at 6:25 pm for pick up. We did not receive our food until 7:15 pm. This is not uncommon, this is the same experience we have had before and consistent with each person waiting for take out. Im pretty sure they do not start making your food until you get there (no matter what time you arrive).....I know that sounds crazy. We werent even the person waiting the longest. One person was there for over an hour and all they ordered was two chicken sandwiches. The food is good but the customer service at take out makes me go somewhere else.
worst staff ever
Their fried eggplant is SO GOOD!
I just like that the food is fresh and tastes good.
Authentic Middle Eastern cuisine
Simple and excellent. Order the lentil soup
A lovely place!
Really good falafal sandwich. And the fries are good too. Very good value. Had the falafel dinner recently, it is very good also. My favorite falafal plate in the area. Food
Went back after some time with friends. Not worth to pay the high price for very limited food quantity and variety. Same Menu over the years. Meats dry, cold and very limted choices. Many other better places to go with much more choices and lesser prices. Wont ever go back again. Also feedback for owners: If you extend your hours by atleast another hour, you may getting another sitting. Resuatrant closes at 9.00 PM and at 8.15 PM, we were told of last call.
Always great food and staff!. The food is always fresh and hot. Staff make you feel like you are at home. Saturday is always busy but worth the wait. Be advised that they dont take debit. Cash or credit only. Keep it going guys! Valeria always keeps us coming back! See you soon
The food here is absolutely amazing!!! We had the falafel plate to start, it was the best falafel of my life. I got the Shish tawoo chicken which was again some of the best most tender chicken I ve ever had. The flavour was incredible! My boyfriend got the Bourkan shrimp, which had an amazing sauce added. Our friend got the Shish kabob lamb and he was very happy (he has come here a few times now!) overall we were extremely happy, and the portion sizes are huge so we have leftovers for today! :)
Food was just amazing! So fresh and amazing!
Food was amazing and best falafel ever!! We got the filet mignon and the kafta will definitely be back soon :)
Great food. Authentic tasting. Falafel was probably the best one I had in Toronto no cap. Can t wait to come again and try something different.
Came here for dinner and ordered a bunch of things, shish tawook, shish kebab, hummus, etc. and it was mostly good. The vegetables tasted like butane most likely from the grill and the wait to get to our table which were reserved for 6:30 took 20 minutes. I d recommend this place for those looking for good shish tawook but I m personally never coming back unless something improves.
The staff is rude and dismissive, very bad attitude towards customers, neglecting their duties.
The cuisine is absolutely delicious, and the ambiance is simply delightful.
Exceptionally great!
It was my first time there and definitely will go back, food was delicious.
Best chicken taawo Ive ever had. And Ive eaten a lot of them.
A staple in the area. The most amazing, fresh, middle eastern/Israeli type food in the area. I suggest getting the meal for two. It s so good.
A childhood favourite of mine food was not as fresh as I remember though. Server was nice but seemed overwhelmed, perhaps short staffed? Lentil soup was the one dish that tasted just like I remember. Overall, will go again, but not the same as it used to be.
Very good as usual
Food was awesome as always...love the Mediterranean diet!
Have been to this restaurant a few times and have never been disappointed.
I absolutely enjoyed food was fresh and so tasty. I ll definitely be back so glad it s a neighborhood restaurant.
I Love this place so much I m almost concerned about giving such a great review, I want ti ensure I always get a table! Putting that risk aside, every single dish from the fried eggplant, to the chicken skewers to the baklava- outstanding. Service is fast, friendly and dishes are wholesome and filling. Prices and value is outstanding. Family friendly, great atmosphere and a staple in our family favourites.
Decent varieties
The food was not very fresh, and during lunchtime, there was only one person serving many tables. Additionally, I was surprised to find that a 15% gratuity was automatically added to the bill with no option to adjust it. I have never seen such a practice in Ontario or even at the well-known and respected restaurants I have visited around the world. Moreover, they Dont accept debit cards; only cash or credit cards. Why? I dont know!
I came here with my family and all 6 of us had a great time. The food was incredible, especially the grilled eggplant and Baba ganoush. If I lived in the area, I would be back weekly.
Ordered falafel sandwiches to take to my dad in the hospital and it was the plainest sandwich ever. There was no tahini and no hummous, at all. The sandwich shouldnt have been called one. It was so empty. When ordering, I asked if I could choose toppings, and she said we put the same on every sandwich - its the standard. Will never come to this location again. Even for dine in I will not come. The location at Leslie is respectable.
Excellent dinner for 2 option
Delicious food. Cosy atmosphere. Vegetarian options: Salad/falafel/ Dietary restrictions: Ask as needed Parking: Theres underground parking by shoppers drugmart/ theres also paid parking beside the restaurant which is only 5 spaced or street parking paid as well. Theres a P parking across the street where Kalani is located Kid-friendliness: We had a baby. It was enough room
This is the best restaurant. Dinner for two is amazing food amazing price and still enough to bring home leftovers. Get the Mahalabia dessert you won t be sorry. Superb. A bit noisy but it s popular! Vegetarian options: It s a Mediterranean menu presented so lots of eggplant, hummus. Babaganoush. Salad varieties. Dietary restrictions: I am diabetic and most of the items on the menu are diabetic friendly. Parking: Alone side on building and behind building
My friend and I ordered the dinner for 2. Everything from the falafels to the main plate of skewered chicken and beef with salad and rice were very delicious. There was plenty of food, including baba ghanoush, pickles, hummus, pita and sautéed tomatoes(not my fave) The speed of the service was great, the waiter wasn t the friendliest but he was very efficient. It s a busy family style, no frills atmosphere which was fine. All in all, I would definitely return, it s not cheap but you get what you pay for, again the food was delicious.
Food is great but if you order take out be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes after the pick up time they give you. Very frustrating.
Excellent food clean nice service and good prices
Best middle eastern food Ive had in Toronto
Lentil soup is consistently amazing, always full of flavor and a great start to the meal, Chicken Shish Tawook is filling and the quantity is never disappointing, come hungry. The Chicken is tender juicy and seasoned well.
Ive been a regular for years. The flavors are exceptional, easily some of the finest Middle Eastern cuisine the city has to offer.
Everything is so delicious
best middle eastern food in the city
Amazing spot..
We had the combination platter and it was fantastic. The eggplant, falafel and kafta were exceptional, but everything else was amazing too. Everything cooked to perfection, plus good portion sizes. Will definitely be back!
We were looking for a new experience and after having a great experience eating Israeli inspired dishes during recent travel, were looking to experience more from Israel. We were able to find vegan options, but overall found the food a bit underwhelming. The place was also noisy as it seems the decor is not absorbing sounds. As we were leaving we discussed what would have made a better experience. One thing we concluded was that the lights were really bright. Perhaps dimming a little bit can create more of an atmosphere. Vegetarian options: Options for vegans.
Food is delicious. Place is little bit cozy. One time dinning is okay. Food
One of my favourite places for succulent grilled liver!
The staff is rude and dismissive, very bad attitude towards customers, neglecting their duties.
The ambience here whispers calmness and quietude. This is the kind of place where you can chow down on amazing grub and actually have a conversation without blasting your eardrums with music! Credit where credit s due- my husband, the Dora of the culinary world, unearthed this gem. We snagged some takeout to feast in the comfort of our home. But let me tell you, the intoxicating scent of the food made the journey back an odyssey of self-control. We got the combo for two and oh my, the portions were epic. Now let s talk about the hummus situation- their hummus is on another level- the kind that has me contemplating a 24/7 hummus diet. It s that addictive. Cheers to discovering this gastronomic nirvana!
ive noticed through out the years, places that i once loved, have either closed down or completely changed in quality. jerusalem is not one of those places. although i used to live very close by, i still make the trip out here every 1-2 months. this establishment has been consistent since ive been frequenting them(2012). i absolutely LOVE dining in but on days where i place an order for pick up and bring it home, its as if i was sitting down to eat. i cannot say enough good things about them. my usual is the combo dinner for 2. amazing value and quantity. the quality does not change. as someone who lives for consistency in life, this is one of those rare places i can depend on to deliver that.
Love the food have been going for years. Pricing has gone up since Covid, but still top notch food.
Food was delicious - had the bbq shrimps with bbq vegies. Portion was a good size and rice very tasty. Side salad too. Will be going back.
When deciding to celebrate New Year s Eve, ordering the whole meal for pick up was agreed. The food was abundant and delicious. Taste of Jerusalem is the way to go to celebrate any event. Thank you for making New Year s Eve extra special. All the best in 2023!
When I moved into this neighborhood over 40 years ago, Jerusalem Restaurant was standing in its exact same location. No wistful feelings here on the passing of a comforting, casual, reliable, good value eating establishment. There have been too many such feelings inspired by restaurant deaths in mid-town Toronto throughout that time. Jerusalem has survived amidst this transience and has maintained a focused, unchanged menu of singularly delicious, high quality, middle eastern dishes, pleasing palates of all ages, and served by warm and professional staff who foster a familiar, family feel. This week, I enjoyed my favourites: whole sea bass with a crispy herb crust and fries (rice tasty too); lamb sandwich with grilled onion (beef also excellent), falafel and baba ganoush. Everything was perfectly prepared, very fresh and fairly priced. Thank you Jerusalem!
Its not worth the price whatsoever. For $18 you get a chicken pita with literally just lettuce and tomatoes in it. No hummus, no tahini, no beets, nothing. What a joke. Go anywhere else
Consistent and yummy
So much so good food We took doggie bags with us and had a great lunch next day Food
Best middle eastern food! A family favorite.
The best chef of all their restaurants consistently Service was great too. Not wheelchair accessible and parking unavailable, for wheelchair. Vegetarian options: Most dips, all roasted veg, rice, breads served warm roasteded eggplant +++ Kid-friendliness: We were their at lunch, as long as parents have taught them how to behave in a restaurant I dont think it be a concern. Im not sure of childrens menu.
Love this cozy place. The food is very flavorful and I especially like the skewers. My brother enjoys the eggplant and their baba ganoush is lovely.
Maza plate was worth it for the price and quality!
They failed to make my sandwich as I had ordered it and the restaurant was empty at the time, also the lady that works there is no good with customers
Best halal place, want to go again
Another great meal at Jerusalem. What can I say? Been enjoying their food for about 20 years. Its always tasty and delicious. Theyve never been off their game, not even once! The appetizer selection is amazing. The fried eggplant is seriously the best anywhere, closely followed by the sauteed tomatoes. My favourite entree is the siniyeh bitaheena, a savoury pattie of ground beef and lamb bathed in tahini sauce and sprinkled with toasted pine nuts. Sooooo yummy! The buttery saffron rice and crisp salad are perfect accompaniments. However -- the array of kebabs dinners are also scrumptious, as is the wonderfully tasty lentil soup. Impossible to go wrong!
Service was incredibly slow, restaurant was noisy, understaffed and overcrowded. Very bad management.
A Toronto favourite for generations, delicious food, friendly stuff
It was very tasty food and it was not expensive
Excellent quality mediterranean food. Friendly and quick service.
Amazing food.
This place has great Middle Eastern food. They have great prices, especially the dinner for two, which actually can feed 4 adults.
Food was good. We tried the Taste of Jerusalem dinner for two. Had yummy eggplant, hummus, baba ganoush. The chicken and lamb skewers were good as well. The dinner for two could really be a dinner for 2 and a child. Good service. Good atmosphere. The menu you see now has actually increased in price. The dinner for two was $50 now its $54. A glass of wine was $14 Total all in with tax and 15% tips was about $80. A bit pricey. But gotta try it at least once.
Falafel wrap is one of my go to, on the go meals. Affordable and delicious!
Meal for 4 has the best value for money the food is really good here
Best hummos I ever tried!! Fantastic food, falafels were really crunchy and tasty. Hummos was exceptional, the chicken was very tender and juicy, everything tastes fresh and homemade. Recommended dishes Chicken Shish Tawook, Hummus and Pita Bread
Good food but $$$ and pick up is consistently 30 min later than promised!
Love their food! Great shish tawoo and lamb kebabs!
Delicious homemade dishes at good prices. Will return!
Jerusalem is friendly, family, with good food. Not a date night restaurant but certainly date koftas are on the menu. Definitely agreeable and well priced.
Healthy food and good service!!
Agreed with the majority of the reviews. Hands down, one of the best middle eastern restaurants in Toronto. The portions are great, the price is affordable and the food is delicious. Their dinner combos are more than enough to feed a family. I hope they dont change a thing and I will keep coming back.
Ive eaten here many times...the food is great... No doubt about that. The customer service on the other hand... Is abismal! I get that they get busy... But when its busy they cant keep up. I placed an order for pickup just after 6...i was told my order would be ready for 7:15. It is not almost 8 pm and I am still waiting. What they dont do here is acknowledge you... Acknowledge your customers... If they have to wait an extra 40 minutes... Maybe compensate them somehow.... Or even apologize for the wait.
I ordered the kafta plate with an extra skewer. The meat was very good, although underseasoned. I believe the intention was that the diner is supposed to add salt and pepper to their taste, so I dont really mind it. The fries and rice were not bad, the tahini was very good, the bread was also very good. The service was good enough. I wasnt pampered, I also wasnt ignored. The decor is pretty nice, floors were clean, table wasnt sticky, and oddly enough the dining area had no smell at all which for the most part is a good thing, although I wondered why the restaurant didnt even smell of the food they make. I would come back again to try the other dishes.
So the food was good, not bad and not excellent. Otherwise in the same level of food in other restaurants is cheaper for 5 or 10 dollars, but lets say thats OK no problem. My problem is ,why I should pay 15% tips ??!! . What I know the tips I am how put how much I need to pay with consideration the service , and I can I dont pay, at the end its my own decision, right?!
Nice, cozy place. The Eglinton Avenue location. Loved the food. Well priced. Warm and friendly staff and quick service.
Beautiful, delicious food, inspiring belly dancer, and much more
Love the food! You will not be disappointed with food selection.
Great service and service and reasonable prices
I eat here often. I havent had a bad meal yet. Best Falafel and Kafta for miles. The staff are great too! Highly recommend!
Nostalgic restaurant with great foods and smiles . Nice and polite staff with reasonable price. Food
Tasty food
It has been quite awhile since I was last in the Jerusalem but meeting with an old friend who lived nearby, it seemed a good choice of restaurants. I wasnt disappointed in the quality of the food or the pleasant ambience of the dining room. And judging by the diners I saw around me (this was the lunch hour) I assume it is a neighbourhood favourite for both dining in and take-out. Well worth the visit, once again. Post covid, one caveat is that they have abandoned their lunch menu which made dining there a reasonable choice for lunch. Now it is only the dinner menu that is being served (at lunch) and thats more expensive than most people would want to spend for lunch. For this reason, I will not be going back any time soon for lunch which is a shame.
Not what it used to be
Incredibly good , authentic middle eastern food. Reminded us of our trip to Israel !
I ve been coming to Jerusalem for as long as I remember. Whether it was to celebrate birthdays, celebrate Easter or just to have a dinner with the family. The food has always been delicious. Sometimes the tabouli is missing some lemon, but overall it s good. The falafel here is probably my favourite and the fried eggplant. The dinner for two is such a good deal and there s a lot of food. You definitely get your moneys worth. Sometimes service is a bit a slow, but overall the servers are very nice.
Amazing fresh salad bar, tasty food and ambience. Service was top notch. Dietary restrictions: Many many options for salads Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp for wheelchairs
Garlic bread, hummus and mezze plate are the best options for vegetarians
Would highly suggest their dinner for 4 if eating as a family group. It is served family style and allows you to try a variety of dishes. There is no dairy in the menu - which may be helpful for those with dietary restrictions.
Delightful staff, a friendly atmosphere and an inviting ambiance. The food is of high quality. This is my new favorite restaurant in the area. Eat here
Large portions, fair prices, every food item was great, and the falafel may be the best I have ever had. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside - and wonderful taste. Will definitely go back.
Vegetarian options: Fried eggplant, fried cauliflower Food
My family got take out from here. We truly enjoyed our meals. They were prepared in a timely manner, they tasted great and fresh. The staff were friendly, professional and knowledgeable.
Just called. Very rude lady representative l. Using ohh my god word in customer service in wasting money in water
I drive for an hour to eat at this restaurant. I have been coming here for over 40 years. The food is simply superb.
Good food nice employees
Amazing food always.
One of Toronto best gems! My family and I are in love with Jerusalem. when there make sure you order the Lamb Kebab, Liver, Tebbouleh, Hummus oh and the Babaghanouj is also out of this world!
Truly amazing place, food and people. Got the dinner for 4 with chicken and beef.
We ve gone here 3 times. The first two times the food was great. The last time we went, the food was underdone. All three times we had to wait an obscene amount of time. The third time we figured, hey let s call ahead and maybe we ll get our order on time that was not the case. They told us to arrive at 6:45 and then we had waited another 30 minutes on top of that. There were other people waiting for their takeout too and they also had waited a very long time. We politely asked one of the staff how much longer will the order be, in hopes we d get an answer at least so we know. She ended up frantically responding they are working on it!! . We ended up staying after that rude interaction, considering we had waited so long already. Got the food, it was underdone (probably because the kitchen was slammed with orders and overworked). I definitely feel their customer service can improve and the way they organize their kitchen can be improved as well (especially since all three times, all the staff looked frantic and seemed overwhelmed). That s just my take.
Worst food
Delicious food and great-sized portions that feel like home food - couldnt recommend more!
Jerusalem is an excellent restaurant with delicious middle eastern food. I especially love their creamy humus and grilled meats, but everything is great! The atmosphere is friendly and low-key and the staff are really excellent. I d had great takeout from there a few times, but to really appreciate the food, I recommend dining in and getting your meal fresh off the grill.
love the food. we go a few times a month or order in
The service is not professional, Our spots in a little room was so tight. Belly dancer was an elderly lady. The food was just ok. Dietary restrictions: Too oily
One of the best middle eastern restaurants in Toronto. Always amazing.
It was my first visit to the Eglinton location. Ordered take out and the falafels were extra salty and did not come with tahini. The shish lamb kabobs dinner plate did not come with much lamb and a came with abundance of rice. The shish tawoo dinner plate was okay. They cut their meat cubes smaller (compared to the photos posted from the dine in experience) so it tastes more on the dry side. I did ask if all the sauces were in the takeout bag but when I got home the only sauce that was left in the take out bag was 1 hot sauce which I didn t ask for so the entire order was on the dry side with no sauce accompaniments. I have been to the Leslie location multiple times and would recommend that location instead if you were thinking of going.
Expensive but good.
